Welcome @ichoosejellyshoes glad to have you with us! @winterbabyrose I've lost the weight I have by a mix of cutting out snacking, better portion control (ie not eating same amount as my 6ft 2in husband!) and cutting down on carbs. Also cutting down on wine and exercising more but less successful at those two! Also accepting losing is a slow process for us shorties and not letting that dishearten me and make me give up. I have lost a fair bit but as soon as I even remotely take my eye off the ball the pounds pile on again... which is annoying!

Hello, may I join

Yes of course so long as you are under 5'3!

so the GP did tests and was meant to speak to consultant but hasn't got back to me and this week I had to speak to him urgently about DD and felt weird as obviously I couldn't ask about me!
still stuck and still not feeling great. Not happy!

againmaeve · 15/07/2022 08:44

welcome to you too @polka6 and sorry to hear you are no further forward @Sooverthemill. I'm here for my Friday weigh-in though I wonder if Monday would be a better day as I am definitely less strict with myself over the weekend and the knowledge I was weighing on Monday might help me retain focus? Anyway I am the same weight - 9st 2.8lb but I have lost an inch off my waist over the last month so I'm pleased with that. It's not something I've ever tracked before so interesting that's it has reduced despite weight staying the same.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 15/07/2022 19:05

Welcome @ichoosejellyshoes and @polka6, how heavy / tall are you Polka? We're quite a mix of weights on here, but all diminutive in stature😊.

You asked what people were doing @winterbabyrose, for me, and most others I think, it's not a case of any 'dieting'. Just slow and steady better choices and lifestyle changes.

I lost almost 2 stone over 18 months (until I had DS in November). The things I changed were not drinking during the week, stopped eating meat at home and cooking from scratch - phased in at different times.

I think the cooking from scratch was the biggest impact. I had no kitchen for 11 months and the pre-packed meals really caused havoc.

I've lost a couple of stone since having DS (8 months) but I think I have to credit breast feeding and his voracious appetite for most of that.

Always good to have some new people aboard - and hi to the regulars 👋

neverenoughchelseaboots · 16/07/2022 07:14

Delayed weigh in with coming to Devon but I found some digital scales here - 9st 0.3lb. Exactly the same as last week, I'm really pleased that my birthday celebrations didn't mean that I put loads on. I'm coming for you 8st something...!

Knittingnanny2 · 16/07/2022 22:43

I think I will be expelled from this group- currently at a luxurious all inclusive family resort in the Algarve with eldest son and grandchildren. The food is amazing and I’m joining in with far too much enthusiasm.
Thank goodness the asda jumpsuits are generously sized!
ps how can baby chelseaboots be 8 months old already?!

ichoosejellyshoes · 17/07/2022 11:03

Thanks for the welcome @againmaeve and @neverenoughchelseaboots I am planning to weigh each Sunday but I've missed today to give myself a slightly longer first week. I've seen some particularly unflattering photos of myself from a trip last week, which I am trying to use as motivation rather than getting upset about them. Your holiday sounds amazing @Knittingnanny2 !

Knittingnanny2 · 17/07/2022 13:57

Re our asda jumpsuits..... there is a lady at this resort wearing one and she is about 8 months pregnant so they are super stretchy!

Sooverthemill · 20/07/2022 08:07

My weight is solid stuck. So fed up but oh well

purplegirl13 · 20/07/2022 13:21

I am back, yet again! I dare not weigh, but will get it over with on Friday morning. If I am less than 11st I will be surprised. I am feeling so disheartened but I really need to do something so here I am.

Hello to new posters

@againmaeve I am glad you are losing inches!
@neverenoughchelseaboots belated birthday wishes. I agree with home cooking helping with weight loss. This is why I am gaining (too much drinking and socialising going on)
@Knittingnanny2 I feel like you have barely been in the UK this year!!
@Sooverthemill any update on test results?
waves to @WellTidy and @SwimmingOnEggshells and anyone else I might have missed!

Breakfast this morning was an iced coffee. Lunch is this blog.lakeland.co.uk/recipe/miso-aubergines-with-tofu-sesame-chilli/ from my most used cook book. First time making it, and I used baby aubergines as they needed using up along with a bag of choy sum.
Dinner will be a salad of some sort

I am not going to calorie count as not in the right place for it and I worry I will feel restricted.

Knittingnanny2 · 20/07/2022 14:34

@purplegirl it seems like that to me too! I’m going home tonight for a rest as 6 days with 2 year old twins and a 4 year old has been absolutely shattering for a 65 year old!
I’ve eaten too much but maybe sweated a lot off running after children in the heat. That’s my theory anyway. I’m not weighing, I’m just measuring by waist measurement and whether or not my clothes fit.
So my plan is to have a mindful eating 10 days then I have 4 days visiting my sister nieces nephews and their children ( fortunately not under 5!) in north Devon. ( so more food…)
Then, I’m def getting back under 9 st by Christmas at the latest.
Best wishes everyone, hope you all coped with heat ok.

Sooverthemill · 20/07/2022 19:54

@purplegirl13 thank you for asking. I've been refered to a gastroenterologist so we shall see

Knittingnanny2 · 21/07/2022 21:44

I’m back in with a vengeance! Doing a drastic fast to kick start so
2 boiled eggs for breakfast ( but late, not til 11. Am just had tea before then to drink
lots of water and carrot sticks for snack at 3
Prawn salad no dressing, no new potatoes etc at 6.30
its so boring but needs must to motivate me!

againmaeve · 22/07/2022 08:11

Good luck with your reset @Knittingnanny2 I've been away this week and good intentions have gone out the window! Going on holiday in 10 days so will use the time between now and then to cut down as I know I'll eat more when I'm away. Hope everyone else is getting on okay.

WellTidy · 22/07/2022 09:17

I’ve fallen off the wagon in an enormous way. We are away yet again (for nearly a month this time)and I am struggling with the heat and unable to do any meaningful exercise. And yet eating as if I am running a daily marathon.

I know I’ve gained as my clothes aren’t fitting as well, and I can see how much more my middle has spread to my sides (if you know what I mean!). It’s more than bloat. The Asda jumpsuit, plus the sainsburys one, is with me and I’m hoping they will be forgiving!

Don’t know what to do to rectify it really. I know I could eat less, and I will have to, but it’s the exercise that means any loss at all for me. Maybe I will have to accept that I must expect a gain and deal with it from mid August onwards when we are back.

Knittingnanny2 · 22/07/2022 09:59

@WellTidy the asda outfit is very forgiving, as well as pregnant lady I’ve seen it around quite a bit in different patterns. It looks lovely. in fact when I was in Portugal I observed that the main holiday outfit this year is sleeveless jumpsuits. On all sizes and heights.

Knittingnanny2 · 22/07/2022 10:01

In fact as I’ve got 2 in different colours, I could have travelled extremely lighly, as I rinsed them out and they dried in half an hour!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/07/2022 11:05

Good efforts Knittingnanny.

I think it's really hard to do much while you're away welltidy, it's supposed to be a holiday after all. You've shown you can be consistent and keep up the exercise usually so I'd be tempted to tackle it after you're back if I were you.

I'm up 0.3lb on last week which feels unfair as I've had an active and healthy week. Usually I can guess what I'll be incredibly accurately, but today I was wrong.

Hope everyone else is okay, it seems like most of you have some sort of challenge on your plate at the moment (excuse the pun) between health and general life - hoping you all get a bit of let up.

ichoosejellyshoes · 22/07/2022 11:44

Like others, I've struggled with the heat this week. It's been too hot to be in the kitchen so I've been out of routine with food. I don't have high hopes for when I weigh myself on Sunday!

That said, I think the success of the week for me has been getting started with some good habits. I like walking and yoga but otherwise I don't really enjoy any other exercise. I've found some short dance videos on YouTube which were quite fun (on the days where it wasn't too hot, at least!). I can't do intense exercise for long periods because of a health problem, but a 15 min stint seems to have been fine. I'm taking the new exercise ideas as a win, even if I don't lose anything this week.

@Knittingnanny2 I aspire to be the kind of person who travels lightly! Maybe one day.

Knittingnanny2 · 22/07/2022 12:24

@ichoosejellyshoes well we don’t have children to pack for anymore and we had a small cabin bag each! I took the 2 asda jumpsuits, 2 roll up thin maxi dresses a pair of shorts and a couple of strapless tops plus underwear and a spare pair of sandals. Didn’t have to dress up at all as it was a childrens sort of all inclusive holiday. Took ends of all my make up etc so used it up and threw it away
I also did the “ old” knickers and ready to ditch bra packing so came back with less than I took!
I’ve decided to have a few days of slimfast shake for late breakfast/ lunch then one fishy salad for tea at about 6 for a few days to reset!
raining here this morning but hoping to have a beach cup of tea with the grandchildren later. I’m not tempted by icecream today
i do find it quite easy to do drastic low cal for a few days but after 5/6 days I’ll gradually go back to my 1400. Still low but at my age and height any more than 1400 seems to put weight on.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/07/2022 13:05

Not weight chat but I feel the need to brag about my travelling light skills 😂. I went to Nepal for two weeks with only hand luggage once (I was hiking so meant less to carry up the mountain).

But also when we went to Spain a few months ago I did one suitcase for four people for a week. And that included enough nappies for a week and the baby bouncer chair!

Knittingnanny2 · 22/07/2022 15:51

im a very sad person as I get ridiculously excited about how minimalistic my packing is!

Knittingnanny2 · 22/07/2022 16:17

Mrknittingnanny has just weighed, he’s eaten his way around the buffets and joined in with childrens snacks in between. He has put on 5lb!!!
He says the scales are inaccurate….

purplegirl13 · 22/07/2022 16:56

@Knittingnanny2 I hope you are recovering and enjoying being child-free for a short time!
@Sooverthemill oh I'm glad they are investigating
@againmaeve I think being mindful before you go away is the best approach.
@WellTidy Like @Knittingnanny2 it feels like you have not been around much. I hope you are having fun! Honestly, you do so well when you are back on track, I would relax up now and kick start when you are back. Accept the gain, it is what happens when life gets in the way!
Somehow I missed the talk about the Sainsburys jumpsuit, I imagine it is out of stock now though.
@ichoosejellyshoes baby steps, it needs to be sustainable.
@neverenoughchelseaboots you have a packing spreadsheet don't you??😉 The holiday to Spain with 1 suitcase for 4 people AND nappies is impressive.
I also love packing light and am incredibly satisfied when I have worn everything I packed. And I have just realised I took a pile of old underwear to the recycling bin the other week, but do still have some I was going to get rid off - I will add to the holiday drawer (not that I have any plans abroad just yet).

Ok, so I am trying and will share my food intake for yesterday and what I consider a small win.
B - iced coffee
S - coffee with sugar
L - veggie sushi
D - fresh pizza from supermarket shoved in the oven BUT half a pizza vs the whole pizza where I convince myself half will be consumed the next day but in reality I eat a slice each time I go into the kitchen. A handful of frozen fries which needed finishing AND no wine.
So although it was pizza and fries, it was half a pizza and no wine. I stopped myself with the promise of wine today.

Was it modern who used to say delay, not deny?

Today, I took my nephew out for breakfast and I had poached eggs, avocado and halloumi on sourdough toast. This has kept me going most of the day
I have had a handful of lentil crisps as a snack
I am out at a margarita bar tonight so there will be cocktails and mexican food.
