Still trying to lose weight by portion sizes and a bit helped by feeling pretty crap a lot! Sorry for those feeling unwell too

Knittingnanny2 · 04/07/2022 22:32

Getting better now thanks all. Day 8 and 4 neg tests later I feel as if I can get back to sensible eating
No news from easyJet yet so hopefully off to Portugal a week Friday with the jumpsuits! Thank goodness they aren’t very tightly fitting!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/07/2022 12:53

Glad to hear you're feeling better Knitting. How are you both feeling Soover & Purple, sounds like you're both suffering.

I had a lovely early birthday meal out a few of days ago, the food was really good but I've been 2lbs heavier ever since. Which cements my theory that it's really hard to maintain any sort of weight loss and eat out regularly.

I'm at a conference today and they bring out delicious snacks every couple of hours so today is going to be bad too.

Hope everyone else is going okay?

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/07/2022 17:33

@neverenoughchelseboots - Where do you eat out and what do you eat? if you don't mind me asking?

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/07/2022 17:45

I rarely eat out because I have a baby and four year old so evenings out are rare. Also I'm a pretty good cook and my husband has naturally healthy taste in food so when we do eat out he often prefers what I make as it's less rich.

When I went out this weekend I had pan-Asian sharing dishes and it was absolutely fantastic. It was a recommendation from a real foodie and didn't disappoint. Especially as it was all food that I couldn't have cooked myself.

purplegirl13 · 06/07/2022 18:30

Checking in to say my sickness is improving and I've not been sick in nearly 48hrs, first time in 2 weeks. So relieved.

Annoyingly I don't appear to have lost any weight as when I have been able to eat it's been croissants/ white bread/ crumpets

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/07/2022 19:43

Gosh that's a long time to be being sick Purple. You must be shattered.

purplegirl13 · 06/07/2022 20:41

Yes, tired and been keeping hydrated with ice lollies. I've been working flexibly and only about 50% of my normal pace. Goes back to our earlier conversations of how important a supportive manager is.

Just need to get through the next 2 days and then I'm off for a week. Couldn't justify the accommodation costs for just me abroad so I'm holidaying by going to visit friends next week. First stop Cambridge, then home for a couple of days before Hastings for a few days. I'll have to dig out the popular Asda jumpsuits that I've not worn yet.... and hope they fit!

Sooverthemill · 08/07/2022 08:07

@purplegirl13 that sounds rough. Try to rest
im stuck but also my stomach isn’t great yet again

neverenoughchelseaboots · 08/07/2022 08:27

I'm trying to get back to Friday weigh ins I think.

Today - 9st 0.3lbs. I said I wanted to be 9st by my 40th (in two days). So I'm going to count that as achieved. A third of a lb on analogue scales would be invisible, so I'm not going to fret about 0.3lb variance.

Next goal is 8st 10 by November. That will be DSs first birthday and it will be my weight before I got pregnant. If I can be back to pre-pregnancy weight within a year then I'll be really happy.

Hope you're all doing okay and the poorly folk are feeling a bit better. You've been quiet @SwimmingOnEggshells, hope you're doing okay too. x

purplegirl13 · 08/07/2022 09:17

@Sooverthemill sorry to hear you are still suffering; did you get anywhere with your GP in the end?

I weighed in at 10st9 something this morning. I don't get why I haven't lost any weight as at least a silver lining of the sickness

@neverenoughchelseaboots yes! you did it. I think you can absolutely count todays weigh in as 9st!

I am feeling much better, no sickness in 3 days so have much more energy! dehydrated today as the novelty of being able to eat has meant fluid intake has dropped.

also haven't heard from @WellTidy recently. I am guessing she is at the gym 😁

againmaeve · 09/07/2022 08:28

Hello everyone - sorry some of you aren't feeling great. I had a lovely day at Wimbledon yesterday but it did involve pimms and pizza - will weigh Friday I think when I've given myself time to undo some of the damage.

TrackTrack · 10/07/2022 07:41

I really hope everyone is feeling better! It's horrible being poorly.

I'm feeling sorry for myself - I'm 0.2 of a lb heavier than 29th June!

I've definitely been eating less than maintainence, everything logged, cut booze and snacks out, and exercised 5 times a week. As well as 10k steps a day and busy, active shifts at work.

The only change is I've cut my running due to an ankle injury, but upped weight training. Those cardio calories must be needed.

There is no way I've gained muscle in such a short amount of time, so I must still be eating too much. 1200kcal. So frustrated. I'll have to lower to 900-1000kcal, which feels so low it's practically an eating disorder!! I'm going to be so hungry, grumpy and feeling faint.

Getting older is not helping. I used to be able to lose a few lbs easily but now it's more stubborn than ever.

This is so disheartening!!

Sooverthemill · 11/07/2022 08:44

My GO has run some tests and is going to speak to a gastroenterologist to get advice. Hopefully it will help

WellTidy · 11/07/2022 20:41

@purplegirl13 I’ve indeed been at the gym, but the air con there isn’t good enough for someone who goes as red in the face when exercising as me!

So sorry to hear that so many of you remain unwell. It’s awful not to be feeling good when it’s so hot on top. Wishing you all better very soon.

I have taken my foot off the gas in the couple of weeks since we got home from our last mini break. I haven’t lost any of the nearly half a stone that I gained over both trips, and have slipped into awful habits again. Like eating a whole cake or massive bar of chocolate mid afternoon. I really do need to get a grip of this or the weight I lost will continue to creep on.

I am 9st 2.5lb today, and we go away for nearly a month in a few days time.

In other news, I am still running and am now doing 25 or 28 minutes at a time. I’m at week 7 of c25k, and there is two weeks left. I’m not running at a pace that would allow me to cover the 5k in 30 minutes, so I’m not seeing that as a target for the end of week 9. Just trying to keep going at this stage! It’s very hot!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 12/07/2022 08:11

9st 2.5lb today for me too @WellTidy. The twins are reunited 👯‍♀️. I'm hoping that it's mainly still party stodge from the weekend.

You must be delighted with that running. It'll definitely help keep things moving in the right direction. And where are you going for almost a month?!

thislittlebird · 12/07/2022 12:09

@neverenoughchelseaboots great progress and that’s a great target for your 40th! Mine is next year, maybe I’ll aim for similar if the ivf is still ongoing/unsuccessful then.

I am 9 stone 12 today, and I was last Thursday too, but then we went to Cornwall for a few days to see relatives and as soon as the diet and exercise stops on goes the weight! Relieved it’s back to last week’s weight though.

Interview was not awful but not that good, I’m going to pretend that it didn’t happen lol. I’m clearly out of practice. I have one week until the next ivf transfer and haven’t decided how to deal with the weight and diet really. Want to keep it up and keep active as much as I can, hard to know what to do for the best.

WellTidy · 12/07/2022 12:56

@neverenoughchelseaboots hopefully we will see some more losses as twinnies! But I was 9st 3.5lb this morning. Yikes. I started the day well, walked to the gym and back (an hour in total), did 20 minutes of hill walking and a spin class. And now I somehow find myself in Five Guys having had a double burger. I am a lost cause at times.

we are off to Portugal this weekend. Really looking forward to it, but slightly nervous about the weight I will be when we get back. Based on previous form, I could easily return weighing the same as I did at the start of the year and undo all the hard work. I always gain loads when I go away, it’s a mix of the heat (which makes me turn to sugar for some reason) and doing (a lot) less. No access to a gym and it’s going to be way too hot for me to run outdoors, which I’ve never done in my life anyway.

@thislittlebird you’ve a lot on at the moment, I hope you’re cutting yourself some slack ❤

winterbabyrose · 12/07/2022 13:48

Hello! Hoping I can join if possible? I am 5'2" and 26 y/o. My goal weight is around 9st and was that weight a couple years ago, but have struggled with yo-yo dieting and binge eating over the past couple of years and my weight shot up to 10.6 this time last year. I then fell pregnant with my first DD and weighed myself a couple of days before giving birth in February this year and was 13.8! Granted, a lot of that was baby weight and about 6 weeks later I was down to 11.10 and seem to have plateaued since. Not been exercising or dieting since baby got here, as was struggling a little with PPD and barely had the energy to function, let alone diet or exercise. Now thankfully coming out the other end of it and my DD is 5 months. So want to now get 'me' back, so hoping for some accountability.

againmaeve · 12/07/2022 15:26

Welcome @winterbabyrose and congratulations on your new baby. Slow and steady is the way I think - and I agree posting for accountability is very useful. I'm not very hungry due to the heat so hoping that is reflected in my next weigh-in - I'm hoping to get under 9 stone but is proving tricky. I was edging towards 10 and a half stone at end of first lockdown and didn't feel good at that weight at my 5ft 2in

WellTidy · 12/07/2022 16:37

Welcome @winterbabyrose and I’m glad you’re starting to feel a little better. I hit a high of 10st 13.5lb last year and didn’t feel good about myself at all, so I understand some of where you’re coming from. Though I’m old enough to be your mother - I’m nearly 47yo 😂 Hovering at 9st 2 or 3lb at the moment despite having got down to just over 8st 11lb about a month ago (the lowest I’ve been for maybe five years).

We are a supportive bunch on here, encouraging others but accepting that daily life has its ups and downs so weight loss isn’t a straight line downwards a lot of the time, much as we’d like it to be! Good luck on your journey.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 13/07/2022 07:36

Welcome @winterbabyrose. I have an 8 month old and it's so hard to get into any type of exercise routine isn't it? And when I'm tired I just want beige carbs. If you're hoping for accountability, I found posting start weight, last week's weight and today's weight on here every Friday really helped. I've got out of the habit but going to start up again. It's useful because you know weigh in is only x days away so keeps you motivated.

@thislittlebird when do you hear about the job? I hope they don't keep you waiting.

I've lost a bit of the post party bloating and down to 9st 1.1 this morning which feels like more acceptable damage.

Off to Devon for 5 days from Friday and I usually lose a bit of weight when I'm down there due to not having the opportunity for so many snacks, but we'll see.

thislittlebird · 13/07/2022 12:58

@winterbabyrose welcome!

@WellTidy yeah, it is a lot but it’s a nice distraction from the stress. I’ve quite enjoyed getting on top of my weight the last couple of months because I felt like the negative feelings about my weight gain and lack of self confidence were making me feel even worse. I’m going to chat to my clinic on Sunday about the exercise thing. Want to keep it up, even if it’s a less intense exercise.

@neverenoughchelseaboots oh I heard a couple of days later (it was internal). I didn’t get it, no one did internally and the feedback was a bit lame and somewhat insulting. They wanted someone who can ‘hit the ground running’ and don’t currently do the job and they didn’t want to train me, but whatever I guess. Made me have a rethink about whether I want to do what I’m doing at all, or whether I should retrain (again). I seem to do this every ten years lol. The benefit is my current job is ok paid and very laid back/not high stress so I don’t have to worry about taking time off for appointments etc.

Nice weather for Devon! The weather was a lot more tolerable in Cornwall at the weekend than it is here in sweaty old London.

winterbabyrose · 14/07/2022 13:18

Thank you for the welcome everyone!

Yes I started cutting back calories this week and watching what I am eating, but I am planning to officially start my weight loss journey on Monday (photos, measurements, weight etc) - I am not one of those start Monday people, but I have my sisters 21st this Sunday where we are going out for a meal so makes sense to start then.

What style of weight loss has everyone found suited them the best? Like calorie counting, or intermittent fasting etc?

ichoosejellyshoes · 14/07/2022 14:04

Hello, I was wondering if I could join the thread? I am 5' 2.5 (the half matters!) and I'd like to lose a stone, probably very slowly if previous attempts are anything to go by.

I was very slim in my teens and early 20s (7 stone), but slowly gained weight and was 10 stone and a bit in early 2020. Hitting 10 stone definitely prompted me into taking action and I lost about 20 pounds during the first lockdown, then had surgery in 2021 and regained most of what I'd lost- so frustrated with myself! I'm bang on 10 stone today.

I mainly want to lose weight for health reasons. I'm very aware that I'm teetering on the border between healthy and overweight BMI. Appearance-wise I feel I get away with it- I'm definitely not skinny, but I'm hourglass shaped and it's all on my hips, bum and boobs. If I was sporty I probably wouldn't be too worried, but realistically I am pretty squishy all over. It's definitely not muscle.

I'd like to be in a position to start trying to conceive at the end of this year. I'm in my mid/late 30s and don't have the best chance of conceiving so I'd like to make sure I'm as healthy as possible beforehand. Getting back to 9 stone and establishing some good routines would help with that.
