Following on from January Thread 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@swampytiggaa You’re a model! Fanbloodytastic 👍👏🏅👏👍🏅Well done! What a lovely charity❤️

@Zalen well done on your whoooosh 👍👏🏅It happens like that sometimes.

@SunshineCake1 I'm sorry you're going through such a hard time. Take care, and be kind to yourself. x

@Zalen the noodles sound brilliant - do you have a link?

Congrats @swampytiggaa you look fab!

Well done to everyone else who has lost, and those who haven't it will come.

I've just signed up to a PT. I want them to make me work hard, but am secretly worried it will make me more hungry!

Crazzzycat · 27/01/2022 10:41

Morning everyone! Well done on the exercise @ginsparkles, @rewis and @Youdoyoutoday (and anyone else I may have missed!)

@HereComesTheMum, PT sounds exciting! Everyone is different, but I personally find that intense exercise suppresses my appetite for a good few hours. I really have to force myself to eat after cardio, but I know others for who it is the complete opposite.

I’m not feeling great this morning. Tesco substituted my usual white pittas for whole meal, which is a bit tricky for me digestion wise. I thought it’s only a small amount of bread, how bad can it get? The answer is, pretty bad! I’m in agony 😢

Crazzzycat · 27/01/2022 10:45

I hadn’t realised there were so many messages on the previous page 🤦🏻‍♀️

Congratulations @swampytiggaa! That’s exciting stuff.

I hope things settle down for you soon @SunshineCake1. You need a break Flowers

Youdoyoutoday · 27/01/2022 10:48

@TheRealHousewife thank you 😊

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2022 10:51

Morning!

Awesome pic @swampytiggaa and well done on being an ambassador for such a great charity!

I'm away tomorrow for the weekend - first time away from my youngest, gah the anxiety! But I also know the kids are going to have a blast with their dad and it'll also be really good for me given the last few difficult weeks (although it really won't be good on the healthy eating front).

Meal plan today

Lunch I plan to make a salad of greens (spinach, rocket etc), green beans, avo, whatever other salad bits I have in the fridge, and I also picked up some cous cous and walnuts this morning. Hoping it comes together IRL as I'm imagining it will!
Dinner is a very rare ready meal, a veggie pasta bake thing grabbed from M&S for

Zalen · 27/01/2022 11:01

@HereComesTheMum, it's a Gousto recipe, I started getting the boxes in the New Year, new house, new empty fridge, seemed like the perfect time to switch. Here's a link.

If anyone wants to try Gousto I'm happy to provide a link, I get a discount off my next box and you get to try it for a discounted rate, something like 60% off the first box, and 30% off the next 3.

HereComesTheMum · 27/01/2022 11:19

@Crazzzycat fingers crossed I feel the same! When I ran I would just be famished!!!

@Zalen that looks amazing! I do get gusto from time to time so I need to look out for that one xxx

Zalen · 27/01/2022 11:33

@HereComesTheMum, it was very nice. It's one of their 10 minute recipes, it took my son a bit longer than that, but he's just beginning to do anything more complex than sticking a tin of beans in the microwave or pouring some boiling water into a pot noodle and he did a great job with it.

129orbust · 27/01/2022 11:52

131lbs - yipppppeeeee.
If we don't consider I was 132lbs 5 weeks ago it feels like a great achievement.
Had a good walk this morning and much much housework planned for today as I have been doing loads of surveys since Christmas and need to have a big housework day.
On the positive loads of free stuff to trial and report back about and lots of £££££'s
On the negative all floors need washing and may take two goes to come up as I want them.

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/01/2022 12:16

No time to tag, but well done on the losses zalen & 129, swimming, booking a PT, and big round of applause to Swampy on being a poster girl and being able to eat cake. Now that's what is all about!

On eating out 8 enjoy it. Life is for living. Just make good choices, steer clear of bread and pud if you can!

My scales are usually all over the place too - I have to hop on 3 times to check the loss is a loss (3/4lb down today from yesterday ?!).

And I forgot who spotted the cashmere jumper - But my advice would be to get it, have it hanging on the outside of your wardrobe, and let that be your incentive to get into it this season and not next winter. If you really love it enough to tell us about it, you will be gutted if it sells out.

Not long left to go this January. Last push!

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/01/2022 12:17

@SunshineCake1 - sending you lots of thoughts and wishes as you in turn are caring for your friends and family. Flowers

ginsparkles · 27/01/2022 13:08

Sending love @SunshineCake1

@TheRealHousewife ... love a bit of wordle! I have also downloaded the app on my phone for lots more practice!!

Congrats @swampytiggaa on becoming a model!! You look fab!

Today is well planned... except for a supplier bringing in Swiss chocs!! Everyone seems determined for me not to lose weight!!

Thursday at work means no time for dinner so salad for lunch. Banana after work, cereal before bed!

Zalen · 27/01/2022 14:39

Well, I've just been out for a lunch-time walk. I can't do it often, most days I use my lunch-break to fetch my son from school. We're not in the catchment area so no school buses, but when I needed to move after the divorce, I decided since he would be in sixth form, I'd choose somewhere for me and if that meant driving him to and from school for 2 years, so be it.

I'm happy with my decision, just been out for a walk, got in a bit of country-side, blew a few cobwebs away, and racked up 3257 steps as well :-)

TheRealHousewife · 27/01/2022 14:57

@ginsparkles I don’t know if the app is the same as the web based one. I agree it’s great. Plus it’s free and you can’t binge waste time on it as it’s 1 puzzle a day. Love that aspect! We are all being electronically trained to seek instant gratification which in all seriousness only benefits the pushers.

@129orbust that’s great! I like your perseverance! I’m the same in regards to my hard floors. All need doing but my back is very painful today so they won’t get done. OH busy with work so unable to assist. With chronic illness it’s a struggle to keep on top of stuff at times.

@Zalen great step count! 👍👏 Nothing beats a bracing walk in the winter sun ☀️

@Crazzzycat sorry to read that. I hope the pain soon settles!

I'm really struggling, I seem to be loosing and putting on the same 2 pounds, in the same amount of time DH has lost over half a stone, we eat the same things I just eat less than him. I've decided I really need to up my exercise as its the only thing I haven't tried. DH has decided to order a rowing machine so when that arrives I'm going to start rowing every day, fingers crossed that has some effect, at least I'll be fitter!

Youdoyoutoday · 27/01/2022 17:03

@Recycledblonde I soooo know this situation as this was me last year!!
It's like my body panicked and put the weight on again! I promise you will break through this, you'll weigh one day and have lost 3lbs.

Different things work for different people so you can try

  • Having a break for a couple of days but just be mindful
  • Go the other way and weigh food out, strick portion control
  • Lower calorie intake for a few days
  • walk more and drink lots of water
  • don't weigh yourself for a couple of weeks
  • up the exercise but don't eat the calories back, I stick to 1400 a day regardless of my exercise regime.

Don't give up!!

At one point, my DP was doing so much better than me on my bloody diet (he had no choice as I told him I wasn't cooking separate meals) and how I wanted to throw things at him, mainly calorific snacks 😆

Best of British 🤞

Youdoyoutoday · 27/01/2022 17:06

My declaration worked!! And possibly this note on my cupboard door!!

I HAVENT SNACKED TODAY 😁😁💃💃

Thank you @fallfallfall and to everyone who has sent good wishes. It has been a very difficult day. I have felt on the edge of a breakdown and or falling apart a few times and find myself drifting off into a daydream but it isn't a good one and nothing is going on in it. I'm apprehensive about posting on here in case anyone knows me in real life but I will say it is about a child of mine, albeit an adult one and their poorly men tusk health. They were saved and I am so grateful. It is going to be a long road and it is devastating for dh and I as we have been asking for help for years, as well as spending a huge amount of money on theories, but all to no good. I can barely breathe for the worry of them getting in to that place again and no one being there to save and help them.

Clearly I am losing my mind as I am sure you can all guess what has happened from that.

I am going to read the thread now.

Crazzzycat · 27/01/2022 18:08

Did someone mention getting a rowing machine?! 👀

@Recycledblonde, I got mine about 6 weeks ago and have been getting a bit evangelical about them since!

My top tip would be to watch some rowing technique videos on YouTube before you get on the machine. If you get your DH to watch them too, you can ask him to check your form while you’re rowing and vice versa.

If you have a good rowing technique the risk of injury is minimal, but if you don’t you can really hurt your back, so don’t skip this!

Good job on the positive reinforcement there @Youdoyoutoday!

Crazzzycat · 27/01/2022 18:11

So sorry to read your update @SunshineCake1. That sounds horrific. Take it one minute at a time. You will get through this Flowers

fallfallfall · 27/01/2022 18:19

@SunshineCake1, my offer of messaging still holds. being in a different time zone can sometimes be helpful. as well as a mom to older (well in my case much much older) kids (my oldest turns 40 in april......honestly i can't get over that).
well researched and planned last night was a vegetarian meal of saag and chana masala served with cauliflower. low cal and veggie BUT salt ladened. i will not be weighing in today :) so far i'm meeting my january goals

Recycledblonde · 27/01/2022 18:35

What type did you get? We've ordered a Concept 2 which we've both used in gyms. They seem to be good for whole body exercise and are relatively low impact which will be good for my knees. I want to start slowly and build up the time and intensity, even if I only manage five minutes at a time to start with it's got to be better than nothing.
