Accountability - three stone needs to go

Mellowyellow222 · 01/01/2022 19:49

Stood on the scales today - I have gained three stone since 2019. None of my clothes fit and I feel really unfit - can’t even touch my toes!

So today is day one. I have walked 17,000 steps and eaten 1500 calories. No booze and no chocolate.

History of ED so need to be sensible.

Goal is to eat less and walk every day. Treadmill ordered.

Welcom @AhThisAgain I think I have found my tribe on this thread!!

Everyone seems to have quite similar motivation and hopefully we will all lose a bit of weight!!

The scales part is scary!!

when I was googling to check the formula for BMI the other day, I came across something called ZigZag dieting - essentially low calorie, but with planned "break days" to prevent plateauing.
www.livestrong.com/article/488503-zigzag-calorie-diet/

Obviously you'd need to take care not to have too many high calorie days, and not go mad with what you consume on those days - but it would work well in terms of accommodating occasional socialising and eating out, plus kidding your body that it's not in a period of constant famine.

RosieRainbow1986 · 04/01/2022 19:33

Mellow -that's a good way to approach it! You can't not have cake on someone's birthday! So have it, enjoy it and move on!

TaggieWeightLoss · 04/01/2022 19:46

Hi @AhThisAgain! I used weight loss resources a while ago and found it really good. It is especially good for inputting recipes and the interface is nice. Also, they have lots of inspiring before and after stories. This time round I’m using noom, because of its emphasis on behaviour change. However, I preferred the wlr interface and I might go back there to maintain once I’ve ‘graduated’ from noom.

TheBestofTimesTheWorstofTimes · 04/01/2022 19:53

Hi fellow losers! Started my thousandth weight lost journey on Saturday. Have 4 stone to lose. Trying a combo over a half an hour walk a day, 16:8 eating, and cutting out snacks. High protein and loads of water thrown in for a bit of fun too Grin

Weighed myself today and am down 3lbs which is very encouraging, but obvs most is water I suppose.

ETA for my new slimmer bod - July

liliainterfrutices · 04/01/2022 20:51

My BMI is 33. Horrified. Have lost 3pounds since Sat though and tried to be active. Managed at 4 day stretch of 10000 steps, but failed today. First goal is getting out of obese category. Would like to have lost loads of weight by May 1st, when I’ll see my family, several of whom are always commenting on my weight. I’ve done this so many times, though, and I usually last two weeks and then think fuck it, I don’t care. Am joining Skimming World tomorrow to try and keep it up.

Mellowyellow222 · 04/01/2022 20:56

@liliainterfrutices that is so familiar! stick with us and you will stay motivated.

For many of us the first goal is to get out of the obese zone. And that should be achievable. Think of the health benefits. And the joy of the clothes fitting just a bit better!

I am taking it one step at a time - I will get frustrated when it is too slow and I feel like a fat frump. And like today when it snowed so I only got 6,000 steps in - but tomorrow is another day!

welcome to the new people. It’s such a motivating thread and we are all in similar positions.

I have just been torturing myself looking at photos from about 5 years ago and I must have been about 4 stone lighter. I looked sooo much better and it’s made me more determined now.

We are over half way through the first week!!

Stargazer89 · 04/01/2022 21:45

@liliainterfrutices I am with you with the family commenting on weight. Mine do too and although i know it comes from them meaning well, it just makes me feel rubbish!!

liliainterfrutices · 04/01/2022 21:55

stargazer It’s horrible. I hate it. What really gets me is that they were doing it when I was quite thin. I used to be size 12 and they’d comment on that. My sister is a size 10; she’s made some comments in her time.

liliainterfrutices · 04/01/2022 21:56

Slimming World not Skimming which would make me a milkmaid.

CrunchieForMe · 04/01/2022 22:09

Welcome @liliainterfrutices you are in good company here. I’ve got a good feeling about this thread!

@Stargazer89 old photos are torture but can be quite motivating when you have a goal in mind. @Mellowyellow222 is right though with smaller steps to start with.

Stargazer89 · 05/01/2022 09:04

Day 4 for most of us!! we have got this!!

I was so hungry when I woke up this morning so have already had 2 eggs and a skinny whip (to satisfy my sweet cravings) logged dinner already so I know I have 525 calories left to last me from now until dinner!

Hope you all have a good day!

Givemestrengthorvodka · 05/01/2022 09:29

Hi all, can I join this thread? I've also got 3 stone to lose, heaviest I've ever been at the moment. I'm been much healthier since the start of January. I do exercise (which I've generally kept up over the last year anyway but no matter how much I exercise I don't lose any weight unless my diet changes. Now I'm focusing on the diet as well. I've started using nutracheck to help calorie count and cut right down on sugar and alcohol. Also doing 16:8 so I'm hoping all this combined will start to have an impact soon.

mintich · 05/01/2022 09:31

Those starting slimming world, I started last April and am 2 and a half stone down. I can't recommend it enough!

dancemom · 05/01/2022 09:35

Can I join too? Weight crept on since first lockdown and I'm almost 3 stone over my ideal weight 🙈

Started on Monday, doing IF 12 - 8pm and calorie counting using MFP. Gym 3 times a week and big walk twice a week although struggling to get my steps over 10000 even on my walk days. I WFH so not easy. Aiming for 1400 calories per day. Not counting my gym calories.

I'm weighing on Thursdays and Mondays but I'll post on Saturday along with everyone else.

ppeatfruit · 05/01/2022 10:17

I have never counted a calorie in my life (i'm not good at maths and it's too much faff Grin ) But I keep maintaining my baggy vanity size 10 using Food Combining as I said and off and on Paul Mackenna's Way of Eating.

Also I'm not a gym bunny or jogger. I do Pilates type stretches at home and 10 sit ups every other morning. That (including normal day to day housework , walking etc.) keeps me slim.

AhThisAgain · 05/01/2022 10:55

Morning! I'm feeling positive today. Within calories yesterday in spite of including some leftover Christmas shortbread and have planned what I'm going to eat today.
Made use of the exercise bike too while watching TV.

I'm on 1320 calories a day which is fine on one level but doesn't really allow for meals out, takeaways, birthday parties etc.

Work pretty quiet right now so the real test will be whether I can keep it up when things get more intense and I start going out again.

Stargazer89 · 05/01/2022 17:58

How’s everyone got on today?

I am ending day on 1409 calories. My journal arrived too so once little one is in bed I am going to start filling it in! Looking forward to weigh in on saturday, even if it’s just a tiny loss i will be happy!

Mellowyellow222 · 05/01/2022 18:04

Not a great day for me on exercise - 2,000 steps so far and chained to the computer so won’t get any walking done today at all.

But should be okay in the food - have kept it healthy so far.

Have in person meeting over the next two days - and no clothes fit! Hopefully by next month I will at least fit into my largest clothes!! Something to focus on

I had less than a thousabd calories yesterday, and I'd put weight on when I weighed myself this morning??!!

Did you like the overnight oats Mellow? I forgot to add that I put cinnamon in.
I found four grain porridge that I bought last year and hadn't used. Bit of a con as it's 85% oats - from memory it was quite expensive; tasted nice though. It's ideal breakfast for days I'm at work; if I have egg for breakfast I tend to eat before I go in, which makes intermittent fasting hard.

CrunchieForMe · 05/01/2022 18:15

I’m ending the day on about 1400 kcals so I think that is quite good. No exercise today though. Will be back walking to work on Friday though. I feeling quite positive though which is good. How is everyone else feeling?

Stargazer89 · 05/01/2022 18:20

I have had a rubbish day moving wise too but tomorrow is a new day and still consumed less calories than i usually would!

Ginflinger · 05/01/2022 18:24

Hello all. Late to the party but I would like to join you. 3 stone to lose, lowish carb and sugar which always makes me feel better. I need the accountability!

TaggieWeightLoss · 05/01/2022 18:33

Pretty good day. I should be well within calorie budget (about 1100), weight slightly up this morning as we had pizza last night. Even a very small pizza is full of salt! Desperate to get below 14 stone and stay there!

@Mellowyellow222 @Stargazer89 I am finding it hard to combine exercise with work too, especially with the days being so short. I did manage to sneak out for a quick walk, but will still probably miss my steps target
