Accountability - three stone needs to go

Mellowyellow222 · 01/01/2022 19:49

Stood on the scales today - I have gained three stone since 2019. None of my clothes fit and I feel really unfit - can’t even touch my toes!

So today is day one. I have walked 17,000 steps and eaten 1500 calories. No booze and no chocolate.

History of ED so need to be sensible.

Goal is to eat less and walk every day. Treadmill ordered.

Learn to look at food labels. I have youghurts in the fridge with calories from 55 per 125gram pot to 155 per pot depending on the brand. They all look and are labelled as being oh so healthy but it's surprising the differences. Same with bread. I get a chia seed bread at 89 calories per slice vs 153 per slice of a wholegrain. What really opened eyes too was when I weighed everything and followed portion size

GreenWhiteViolet · 02/01/2022 10:05

I have 2 stone to lose, which I've gained since March 2020 Sad I was stressed and ate my way through the first lockdown, and never got back into healthy habits.

I went on a 3 mile walk yesterday, which I enjoyed! I'm going to start carrying a bit of weight in a backpack when I walk, because that burns significantly more calories.

For breakfast I either have porridge with a couple of drops of flavouring (artificial, but better for losing weight than adding honey or sugar!) or an omelette cooked with 1-calorie spray instead of oil. I'm not strictly calorie counting at the moment, but I'm avoiding all sugary and carb-heavy foods, and I've cut out alcohol. If that doesn't seem to work, in a few weeks I'll start being more careful with calories - it'll be easier once the sugar cravings are gone!

Mellowyellow222 · 02/01/2022 10:11

I am hoping January will be a good motivator.

I have lots of clothes in my wardrobe that are sized 10,12 and 14. I am really a size 16 but have refused to buy any clothes in that size so I am panicked that I will have to go back to the office and zip a dress!!

I figure by 1 feb I should be able to fit into some of the size 14. By 1 mar all size 14 will fit and then sometime during April I might even squeeze into the more generous size 12s 😂

I have just weighed myself and downloaded the NHS Weightloss app. I have 6 and a half stone to lose. Worst thing is I have just put 6lbs on over Christmas. So my plan is to weigh and log all my food and to do some exercise at least 3 times a week. I'm paying for gym membership so will actually start using it.

ppeatfruit · 02/01/2022 10:34

I have lost 3 stone, probably more (i don't weigh but it is everyone's own choice) NOT on a strict diet. I'm maintaining (obvs. put on a bit over Xmas! ) but it's melting away now.

I do Food Combining (not mixing protein with carbs at the same meal) So big salads and or veg with protein. Have your toast or salad sandwich with marmite and or nut butter! That works really well. Having fruit for breakfast ( I make a smoothie) , so eating fruit when you're hungry. That's great for health too
.
The above means you never go hungry and it's easy to leave and go back to without spending any money on diet food!

ThinWomansBrain · 02/01/2022 11:08

My struggle is always breakfast
Egg on toast - my 'diet concession' is having one slice of toast instead of two
Egg and Bacon
Omlette
Overnight porridge - soaking overnight releases makes it quite sweet and creamy, so you don't need to add milk or sugar (although this time of year, a dollop of cranberry sauce that I made without sugar is fab).

Mellowyellow222 · 02/01/2022 15:21

10,000 steps done this morning - my legs ache after a holly walk: put on a audio book and powered through it!

Now researching overnight oats!

@Mellowyellow222 You sound similar size to me! i was always a 12 (so never small small) then crept up to boardline 14 and since having my daughter I am now really a 16 but squeeze in to my old clothes!
Hoping to me a comfortable 14 by end of feb! just ordered a weight loss journal off etsy and hoping that will help!
@ppeatfruit well done on the weight loss, it’s def inspiring to hear of success stories. Did it take a while to start noticing a difference? my problem is going to be keeping motivated for the long term. Thanks for the good tips too.

ThinWomansBrain · 02/01/2022 17:37

@Mellowyellow222 - I find about 30g of oats is enough for a portion; the larger the oats the better to keep some texture, just pour water on before you go to bed, zap in the microwave in the morning.
If I'm not having berries with it, I do put in about 10g of sultanas (that's what we had in porridge when I was growing up, so a bit of nostalgia for me), around 30 calories.
Mornflake and flahavan's are both good brands for larger oats.

I have just worked out that a rasher of bacon is only 5 more calories than 10g of butter - and I don't use butter if I have bacon. Feels more substantial - and 6g of protein Grin

Nice to see lots of people joining the thread! And great to hear from people who have already succeeded in losing weight.

Interesting how many of us gained during lockdown. I gained loads. Thankfully lockdown wasn’t too bad for me (stable job, good health etc), but I was always in the kitchen making my hungry teens snacks. They are still beanpole thin, but I got very fat from all the ‘tasting’ of food and ‘tidying’ of plates. Mindful eating is now a big focus for me.

Task for today was getting back on track after yesterday’s delicious New Year’s Day dinner (Dh is an excellent cook!).

I’ve been for a walk, but no cross trainer yet because Dh has been using the room for gaming. Maybe later… or I might try the old people’s yoga workout on apple fitness.

Hope everyone else has had a good day!

RosieRainbow1986 · 02/01/2022 19:26

Hello all, I hope you don't mind me also joining this thread! I'm not always the best at replying, especially when back in work but will do my best to keep up! :-)

I managed to lose quite a bit of weight before getting married at the end of 2018 but have put it all back on and then some, so in an ideal world would like to lose 3-3.5 stone to be properly comfortable. But for now am aiming for 1st9lbs so that I'll be within the BMI required for IVF in case that's a route that my husband and I need to go down.

When I lost weight for my wedding I was going to Weight Watchers but there aren't any classes in my area anymore. So instead I've downloaded the NutraCheck app and weigh in Boots every Saturday morning! I've properly started my diet today, so bring it on! :-)

Mellowyellow222 · 02/01/2022 19:39

Welcome Rosie! Glad to have someone else onboard!

Stargazer89 · 02/01/2022 19:43

Welcome @RosieRainbow1986 :) That’s a good idea having a weigh in at boots. I am dreading my first official weigh in when my scales arrive. I have an idea at what i must be but it’s still scary stepping on the scales (for me anyway) are you calorie counting?

How’s everyone’s day been? I am finishing the day on 1450 calories and according to my apple watch atm my calories burned are 2344 so atleast that’s a calorie deficit for the day and I am taking that as a positive first day.

Mellowyellow222 · 02/01/2022 19:59

According to my Fitbit I have burned 2250 calories today.

MyFitnessPal has counted 1229 calories eaten. So a really good day.

Am exhausted though after two days with long walks! No work tomorrow so trying for another walk in the morning.

OP posts:
CrunchieForMe · 02/01/2022 20:16

I’ve finished the day on 1600 kcal, been into London so walked a fair bit. I don’t tend to track my fitness kcals but consistently walk an hour a day commuting to work.

Im officially starting Tuesday when I am back to work and I have done a food shop.

liliainterfrutices · 02/01/2022 20:49

I lost a pound from yesterday, but I think that's the result of drinking lots of water yesterday - it really does lighten you at the start of a diet, I think. It's quite morale-boosting to see the scales go in the right direction, even if dispiriting to think of how far they have to go still.

Jeds55 · 03/01/2022 06:41

Good morning all, can I join please. Have piled on the weight in this pregnancy so have 4 stone to lose to even get back to a healthy bmi. I'm so ashamed of myself at the moment and hate being this big but exhausted from the new baby so filling up on junk food all day and night.
I love walking /jogging so aim to get back to regularly jogging but that's a while off as just don't have much time. Borrowing MIL's spinning bike so can hopefully have goes on that between baby and toddler demands.
It's really inspiring reading success stories here and loving hearing how everyone is getting on.
Starting today - reached for the chocolate at 4am out of habit but stopped myself.
Plan is - about 1500 cals, fast walks with the buggy, walk to nursery more with toddler, no more snacking overnight. Then hopefully from Feb when have lost some to start jogging few times a week.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/01/2022 07:55

I know I generally find it easy to loose the first couple of kilos, but start of day 3, 1 kilo down Grin

I'm sort of doing intermittent fasting - only "sort of" because I've decided that I'll still have tea (with a dash of milk) - but psychlogically, telling myself "no food" after my evening meal is more helpful with removing the temptation to snack.

Is everyone else getting off to a good start?

Mellowyellow222 · 03/01/2022 08:40

Morning and welcome!

Just stepped in the scale and have lost three lbs since 1 jan. all water I know but good motivation.

My muscles ache from walking so much over the last two days - but determined to get a walk in today.

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2022 09:24

Stargazer Thanks Grin . As I don't generally weigh I go by my jeans\clothes and yes quite quickly I'm having to do the belt tighter on my jeans (mind you it happens in the morning more than the evening!!).

Something that works really well for me and DH, is eating your main evening meal early, like ThinWoman says, (he's always trying to lose weight, he does need to for his health if nothing else) he usually ignores my ideas but literally as soon as he takes notice (with no calorie counting or such) he starts to lose!!!!

Oh ThinWoman Have you looked at Paul Mackenna's I Can Make You Thin way of eating ? It's fab. and it works too.

Stargazer89 · 03/01/2022 10:27

Wow sounds like people are off to really good starts. I am yet to do my first weigh in so I won’t actually know if I have lost anything during first week. Hoping scales arrive soon.

just had a cup of tea and already got lunch prepared (cauliflower egg fried rice and salmon) and then dinner I have a ready meal (not the best I know but just easy for calorie counting atm) Takes me too around 900 calories so will pick a couple of snacks to keep me going.
Hope everyone has a good day

Stargazer89 · 03/01/2022 13:16

Scales arrived and i couldn’t resist standing on them! I knew what kind of weight I was but still it was horrible to see. I have really let myself go!
Anyway going to put it on here for accountability and hope that on saturday the number will be lower 🙏🏼
Starting weight: 14stone 5
Current weight : 14 stone 5
Goal weight: 11 stone

Arghhh seems like such a huge amount to loose but I have to do it!

CrunchieForMe · 03/01/2022 13:33

I weighed myself today at a family members as I dont have scales at home.
Starting weight. 14stone 6
Goal weight 11stone 6

@Stargazer89 we seem to be very close!

This feels like a massive challenge and writing it down seems scary.

Mellowyellow222 · 03/01/2022 13:43

It’s raining!!! I need to go for my daily walk. So I will get wet - but struggling with motivation.

Once the treadmill arrives this won’t be a problem.

I calculated my BMI. 32. I am horrified. So first mini goal is to get out of the obese zone.

OP posts:
Stargazer89 · 03/01/2022 13:48

@CrunchieForMe it feels more real writing it down doesn’t it.

@Mellowyellow222 my BMI is also 32! good idea to to have 1st goal of getting out of the obese category and for me that means loosing pretty much a stone!
