Accountability - three stone needs to go

Mellowyellow222 · 01/01/2022 19:49

Stood on the scales today - I have gained three stone since 2019. None of my clothes fit and I feel really unfit - can’t even touch my toes!

So today is day one. I have walked 17,000 steps and eaten 1500 calories. No booze and no chocolate.

History of ED so need to be sensible.

Goal is to eat less and walk every day. Treadmill ordered.

Could I join you all please?

I’m back in the office after working from home and none of my work clothes fit comfortably. I’ve been overweight for as long as I can remember as an adult and I’ve been putting off stepping on the scales for a while as I know I’m at the heaviest I have ever been.

Last night was the catalyst for me to acknowledge that I need to do something. I was supposed to be going out somewhere posh for a celebratory meal with my husband and couldn’t do my trousers up and not by a little way, they were massively too small.

In my head I’ve made all sorts of excuses, peri-menopause, emotional eating, stress etc. The truth is I eat too much and don’t move enough. Stepping on the scales was horrifying, I’m over 20lbs heavier than I realised.

So today was the day I start to do something about it. 2 dog walks, no snacks and overnight oats with fat free yoghurt in the fridge ready to take to work tomorrow.

Starting weight

15 st 11lb
Initial target 3 stone to lose

Mellowyellow222 · 27/02/2022 20:47

@fingersandthumbs welcome!!

For me lockdown and long covid has taken its toll. I am two months in and starting to feel a bit better about myself. Progress is slow but steady, and I have lost over a stone by counting calories and trying to get a bit of exercise.

The weekly weigh in here has helped, I need the accountability.

I have a wardrobe full of size 12 work clothes that will only fit when I lose another two stone!!!

Welcome @fingersandthumbs! Not fitting into clothes was a massive catalyst for me too.

Your plan sounds similar to mine. Good luck this week!

Mellowyellow222 · 27/02/2022 20:56

I have to confess I have tried overnight oats a few times and bloody hate the stuff😂.

I feel like I should love it but no.

OP posts:
fingersandthumbs · 27/02/2022 21:29

I quite like the overnight oats, I just need to be organised enough to remember to make it. I prefer them with fat free Greek style yoghurt and frozen raspberries. I like the tartness of the raspberries.

I’m going to get my husband to do the shopping so I can’t buy rubbish at the supermarket and I’m going to have a stash of healthy snacks, like celery and carrot sticks ready to go in the fridge.

I’m aiming for 1-2lbs lost a week and hoping the first few weeks are a bit more than that.

We’ve got a holiday booked for middle of May with some friends and I need to be able to fit into my holiday clothes and feel better about how I look. Due to the pandemic we haven’t seen these friends for over 2 years and I’m 3 stone heavier than I was when I last saw them.

Mellowyellow222 · 01/03/2022 07:21

1 March - two months since I started and I have more of less stuck to 1200-1300 calories per day.

Weight loss hasn’t been as dramatic as I would have liked - but I have lost 1st 2lbs and moved out of the obese category!

Hopefully will lose another stone by 1 May!!!

Congratulations, well done 👍

As I mentioned was away last weekend celebrating a relative's birthday so eating out/other stuff more than usual. And unsurprisingly no loss (but yay no gain either)
This week-
Current wt- 13 St 5

Total loss 9lb
Goal wt 10 St 10
Been back on it this week but also busy wk at work so more work less time for going gym/walking
This is tough and slow!

CrunchieForMe · 05/03/2022 08:04

Happy Saturday!

It’s 1lb off for me this week so here are my stats.
SW 14.7
CW. 14.0
GW 11.5
Total lost 7lb

My aim at the beginning of the year was to lose 1lb a week and I have lost 7lb in 8 weeks. This is normally the point I get disheartened and give up but you lovely lot are keeping me going. Well done @Mellowyellow222 you smash it every week. @Lemurville staying the same is great after a weekend of celebrating.

Here’s to another good week.

Mellowyellow222 · 05/03/2022 09:05

@Lemurville I am finding it slow too. I fit like I should be skinny at this stage but I’m not (and never will be!!). If I keep up the slow and steady rate I will be at my goal by summer and that will be lovely.

@CrunchieForMe I agree that this would be give up point for me too! But I really don’t want to. The reporting every Saturday is keeping me focused.

I do see a difference in my face now, I had a bit of a double chin developing which is disappearing. A few people have noticed which I hate - but it’s also nice😊

Hello everyone!
I'm going to join in as I'm 13 stone 10 lb and I need to lose 3 stone by June, in time for my Birthday
I keep trying and then going back to the biscuit jar, or cracking open the crisps and I really don't want to get any fatter and make it harder for myself.
Today ive.had greek.yoghurt with grape nuts and a banana and I probably west again until tea time.
I think I'll roast a chicken and have loads of vegetables with it.
I'm off to do to do a Joe Wickes kettlebell workout and a few waist exercises.
I've been out with the dog this morning, but we didn't go far, although he had a good runaround. But he's not fat!

Mintine · 05/03/2022 10:51

Typos, sorry about that, I meant I'll not have anything else to eat until dinner. I did have lots.of yoghurt.

Mellowyellow222 · 05/03/2022 11:30

Welcome @Mintine. The weekly weigh ins on this thread are really helping keep me motivated.

I am losing about 1lb a week, but I’m okay with that. I have given myself about six months to lose the full three stone. I have a big holiday at Easter and want to be 10st 10 by then, which is about two thirds of the way towards my goal.

OP posts:
Mintine · 05/03/2022 11:40

Thanks @Mellowyellow222
Hopefully I’ll be able to lose weight with this support as well as I am really fed up of being overweight and not being able to squash into all the lovely clothes in my cupboard.

fingersandthumbs · 06/03/2022 10:18

So first week of healthier eating.

Starting weight 15:11
Current weight 15:16
Loss 5lbs

I’m happy with that as a first week. Overnight oats with fat free Greek style yoghurt and different fruits for breakfast, lunch has been a jacket potato or large plate of salad but I think it’s the evening meals which have made the biggest difference to me.

I joined one of the recipe box delivery companies using a referral from a friend and choose meals from their low cal and healthy options menu. It’s meant that I haven’t needed to go food shopping so haven’t been tempted by anything in the supermarket. Everything was included in the boxes and has had the added advantage, for me, of portion control.

I’ve also swapped a lot of the white tea and coffee I drink to fruit tea and increased my daily step target to 12000.

The inspiration from reading about other people’s journeys on here is also helping.

Well done everyone.

fingersandthumbs · 06/03/2022 10:19

Argh, just seen an erroneous “1”

It should read:

Starting weight 15:11
Current weight 15:6
Loss 5lbs

Mellowyellow222 · 06/03/2022 11:14

@fingersandthumbs welcome! It’s a lovely thread - good bunch of people. We are all doing it differently but it’s nice to have the support.

5lbs is a great start - well done!

I used to do hello fresh and the food was lovely. But I wasn’t organised enough to cook it every night and it took too much time for me. Must try it again.

My weight loss is all about clothes😂. I have lost 17lbs so far but haven’t been able to change my wardrobe apart from a few tops. I buy cheaper clothes when I am bigger, so am my lovely expensive gear barely gets worn😂. I think in another 7lbs I will see a change

OP posts:
fingersandthumbs · 06/03/2022 12:13

Not tried Hello Fresh, but I suspect it’s very similar to the one we’re using which is Gousto. It also helps that my husband likes to cook, but honestly, none of the recipes I chose last week or the ones to be delivered next week have taken long than 45mins start to serving time.

I’m like you with the clothes thing though, I want to be able to wear my nice clothes again and feel comfortable in them rather than worrying about how they look and pulling them down and constantly adjusting them. I also need to buy some new bras but I refuse to spend loads until I’m happier with the weight.

If, any one wants a referral code for Gousto let me know. My code gives anyone who uses it 65% off for the 1st order and 30% off all orders the following month. And by way of full disclosure, if you use my code I also get £20 to put towards my orders. The recipe delivery is helping me, but I know everyone has to find their own way that works for them.

Keep on keeping on everyone.

Mellowyellow222 · 06/03/2022 12:37

At the start of all this I bough a capsule wardrobe in the bigger (proper!) side. A dress, a jacket, trousers, two tops, a rainproof jacket for walking and come underwear.

Nothing expensive but it meant I had clothes that fit me for the first couple of months. The bras are too big now and the waterproof at a bit roomy but everything else still fits. Today I have made it into a size 14 top that I bought to wear at Christmas but was far too tight.

I realise to my great shame that I was squeezing into clothes that simply didn’t fit. It looked dreadful and made me feel rubbish every day.

OP posts:
fingersandthumbs · 06/03/2022 14:00

Congratulations on the size 14, that’s my target for end of the summer.

TaggieWeightLoss · 07/03/2022 11:11

Yay for size 14 @Mellowyellow222! Welcome @fingersandthumbs and well done to everyone on the losses!

Here are my stats:
Start weight on 7/12/2021: 14 stone 12
Current weight: 12 stone 7
Goal weight: 11 stone 5

Very pleased to finally be under 80kg. I did wonder if I would ever be below 80kg again. :-)

CrunchieForMe · 07/03/2022 11:26

@TaggieWeightLoss you have done so well. Our starting weight and goal weight is very similar although I am quite behind you with weight loss!

TaggieWeightLoss · 08/03/2022 04:28

Thanks @CrunchieForMe. It’s nice to be in a group with similar aspirations 🙂.

For me, it’s all about maintaining. I’m pretty good at losing weight quickly, but in the past, I’ve always gained it back even more quickly. The test will be whether I can stay at a healthier weight when I’m not restricting my food intake so drastically.
