HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Thank you for the welcome 🤗
Is everyone starting tomorrow?
I’m awful on NYD as we always go to the pub for a roast and bubbles so I am starting in earnest on Sunday.

twinkydink · 31/12/2021 21:09

Thanks for thr advice, I will definitely have a read over the next couple of days before I decide. The intermittent fasting does appeal to me but not sure I could go full on hard-core 800!

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2021 21:41

I’m with you @SunshineCake1 I think she is sinister and I totally get stress zaps when she’s menacing and murdering 👿😈

We’re watching Spectre now. Excellent 👌

@Bridetobe2 start whenever is best for you. It’s ok, as realistically we have to be flexible to accommodate life’s ups/downs & celebrations 🎉

@twinkydink it’s hardcore and personally I feel you don’t get enough nutrients. When I was doing it (more or less) I started to lose my hair and was unable to sleep properly. Have you worked out your daily needs in cals TDEE Calculator Then knock 500 cals off a day to lose approximately 1lb a week.

Nonetheless I do use many of their recipes.

I’m really sorry to jump in, I just wondered if I could have the details too please? I’m not too far from Kent, and it is So hard to find someone reputable when it comes to intolerances. I’m lactose intolerant, and onions and garlic, but I know there’s more and I’d like some extra help! Thankyou

2022weightlossusername · 01/01/2022 02:05

Happy New Year everyone! Let’s do this!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome to the thread OP.

Ate almost my own body weight in Chinese tonight and am looking forward to getting ‘on the wagon’ on the 2nd.

Wondering if anyone on here has ADHD and suffers when the dopamine seeking snacking? When I am on medication I’m a different person but when I’m not I’m in the kitchen every ten minutes. I’m going to be really firm with myself this year and ensure I take my meds to try and make life easier for myself. Give myself a fighting chance.

Jeds55 · 01/01/2022 04:08

Happy New Year all. I'll read the thread at a more reasonable time of day.
I'm in - have a 6 week old baby and I've put on 4 stone during this pregnancy. I've never been anywhere near this heavy and I'm really feeling it and so unhappy about it. Went to doctors with swollen legs diagnosed as water retention and doctor recommended losing weight as best thing for it (but had already decided to lose weight). Had major sickness then nausea in pregnancy that was only relieved by eating sweet stuff so I developed a major sweet tooth.
Plan to restrict calories to 1600 per day pf good quality food and get out and walk with the pram then get back into running once they weight down a bit and have healed from c section.
Aiming for a steady weight loss of hopefully at least 7lbs each month.
Good luck all, this time next year we could all be in a much better position.

NoodleSlurper · 01/01/2022 06:04

Happy new year everyone!

@TheRealHousewife sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you can find a suitable job.

@2022weightlossusername, tell me more about the ADHD/eating thing. I had recently been wondering if I have it.

swampytiggaa · 01/01/2022 07:28

Morning everyone! Happy New Year 👍

Currently still in bed which is a huge treat after a week of 4am alarms 😂😂 but getting up for parkrun in a bit. I’m tailwalker today so will be having fun at the back.

I’ll weigh myself this morning and restart fasting as well. I’m planning on not eating after 8pm or before 12pm. Should be doable. Realistically I’ll stop eating after my evening meal which can be anytime from 5pm tbh

Today I am cooking bean chilli for tea with nachos and I’ll bung some cheese on it 😂😂

Shopping is booked for tomorrow so I’m definitely going to sit down and plan some healthy meals for the week 😊

Going to up my water again 👍 and not be tempted by the staff canteen. It’s too easy to buy a bacon butty when they’re 60p 😂😂

DownUdderer · 01/01/2022 07:32

Hi. I'll try and catch up with everyone's posts. If I could cut down on eating bread I'd be pleased. I'll be taking small steps in the right direction, my head isn't quite in the game at the moment.

cherrytree63 · 01/01/2022 08:09

Room for a not so little one?
@TheRealHousewife I was on one of your earlier threads but I do struggle to keep up with the busy threads, so dropped off it.
Hello everyone and happy new year!
TLDR I was obese as a child, as an adult yo yo'd between 11 and 12 stone.
I shot up to 14 stone when I was Ill a few years ago.
Did the "light" bootcamp on here, started HIIT and did c25k and dropped to 9stone.
Got out of the habit and I'm a very flabby 10 stone.
I've now got arthritis and fibromyalgia and struggle with exercise due to pain and zero motivation.
But I'm determined to sort myself out, hopefully losing weight will make things easier, and eating better food will ease some of the inflammation.
Goals: I had a favourite pair of jeans in a size 16, as I started to lose weight I bought them in a 14, then 12, then 10. I now can't get the 10s over my fat thighs. So want to get up one morning and pour my svelte sexy body into those 10s again Grin
Aiming to lower my carb intake, cut out all sweets etc (I can't eat a piece of chocolate, it's like crack to me so need to go cold turkey), no processed food and reevaluate in a month.
I was starting today but woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the Tiramisu I bought for last night but forgot to eat so today might be my last fat food day Grin

Tinabn · 01/01/2022 08:35

Can I join in? It was a tough 2021 and I’ve put on about 2 dress sizes, I’m 63 on Friday and have never looked my age until now and I don’t like it! I try not to eat between 8.00 PM and 12 noon but have slipped a bit over the past couple of weeks, try to low carb and avoid sugar, again slipped, I also had a reaction to the flu jab that curtailed exercise and developed reflux in November, today I am going to attempt a gentle exercise video and have two Pilates classes booked for next week, something I haven’t been able to do for two months. I’m an emotional eater, it’s been a crap year and the last week has brought some potential life changing problems for people who I love so 2022 might not be the light at the end of the tunnel and I need to be fit to support them.

Crazzzycat · 01/01/2022 08:52

Morning all and happy New Year! Just checking in with my starting weight of the year, which is 77 kg.

As a bit of background. I lost 24 kg/ just under 4 stone in 2021. What worked for me was a combination of making better food choices and doing a hell of a lot of exercise. I count calories, but worked out that I can eat a lot more calories than the 1400 calories that is generally recommended as a starting point, and still lose weight. I think it’s all the exercise, plus being tall that’s responsible for that.

But anyway, my top tip for anyone who is calorie counting and has a lot of weight to lose is to not set your calorie limit too low. You’re probably going to be here for a little while, so don’t make your diet torture! You can always cut your calories a bit further later on, if you find you’re not making as much progress as you’d like. The TDEE calculator @TheRealHousewife posted a link to yesterday is a good starting point for working out how many calories you’re likely to need to maintain or lose weight.

My weightloss goals for this year are modest. If I can get down to 72 kg by the middle of the year, I’d be very happy. I’m also planning to do a challenge, which is to do 2022 km in 2022. I’ll use a combination of walking, cycling, rowing and x-training to (hopefully) get there. I’m planning to post updates here every Monday. Wish me luck! 🤞

RestingStitchFace · 01/01/2022 09:04

Checking in! Combo of over-eating and perimenopause. Need to shift about a stone and a half. Joined a gym last month but because of raging omicron in our area, have only been once. Need to be accountable somewhere....

RestingStitchFace · 01/01/2022 09:05

Going to try 16:8 fasting, more exercise and possibly hypnosis to crack sugar addiction.

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 09:37

Once you say yes to!

Bridetobe2 · 01/01/2022 09:51

Morning all.

Weighed myself this morning and seem to have put on 4lb in 48 hours Confused

Hoping it’s water weight and the first few pounds will shift pretty quickly.

Looking forward to feeling fitter and healthier this month!

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 09:53

Happy new year to everyone. I love ducks so 2022 is great for me Grin.

@swampytiggaa now that dh is retired we have dinner earlier and if I can persuade him to have our main meal at lunch, or at least a bigger lunch, then I like a small early tea around 5 and that means a longer fasting time. I get to see fat burning on my app then.

. Go cold turkey with the bread if that will work for you but if not cut down a slice at a time.

Welcome back @cherrytree63. I can not bare to throw food away so I'll most definitely be eating the lovely Gu pudding in the fridge! We also have tonnes of Christmas food left and lots and lots of chocolate but the latter will just be enjoyed minimally to make it last and not make me feel like I am missing out.

@Tinabn welcome. Sorry to hear you have family members with difficulties but that is a good incentive and we are all here to support you. The kick I needed to start running was being overweight, having asthma and covid. My asthma is almost gone, I did lose three stone but put one back on after having glandular fever but I'll get it off again.

@Crazzzycat I've found some large pieces of paper and I'm going to stick them on my bathroom wall and note when I run and walk to make the 2022km for 2022 challenge. Can't run for a few days if not two weeks but on Monday I am hoping to walk with dh and our dog.

Welcome @RestingStitchFace and good luck.

shutthedamndoor · 01/01/2022 09:53

Hello everyone. I've got 30 kilos to lose, and no set timeframe to do it. I'm just planning to carry on until I get there.
I'm doing intermittent fasting
Sticking to low carb as much as possible
I've got a treadmill so that I can walk and work.
Honestly, I've got no reason to fail at all apart from my own apathy and that overwhelming feeling that I've had this body for so long, it doesn't seem possible to get to a place where i am slim.
However, I know that there are many many people who have achieved significant weight loss, and one of the most important factors is supporting each other.
I'd love to be a part of us all achieving our goals!

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 09:59

It's not really 4lbs @Bridetobe2 so don't fret.

EnglishMuffins · 01/01/2022 09:59

Can I join?

I’d like to lose 12-14lbs by summer. I’ve been so gluttonous over the Christmas period , put on 4-5lbs. Doesn’t sound much but I’m short and it shows. Clothes are tight and feel disgusting.
Having a roast with all the trimmings today🙈 so starting tomorrow. 1200-1400 cals a day, tons of water & exercise.

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2022 10:01

Happy New Year 2022 🎉🍾🥂

Hi @PaulineFowlersCardigan if you tag the person who you’re asking they might see it. Sorry I can’t remember who was discussing testing.

@Jeds55 Congratulations on your new baby! I totally agree with your future thinking. We can all see progress by next week/month/year 👍

Thank you @NoodleSlurper, that’s kind of you.

@swampytiggaa enjoy your lie in, you totally deserve it!

@DownUdderer sending a hug as you sound like you need it! We’re here if you need to talk ❤️

Welcome back @cherrytree63, lovely to have you on board. Sorry to read about your health conditions! They can sabotage our best efforts. Nonetheless I think we can feel better once we reach that sweet spot of doing some exercise but not enough to burn us out. I’ve also read reducing inflammatory foods like sugar and alcohol can help with reduce inflammation within the body! Good luck and reach out for support if you need it. That’s what we are here for.

A warm welcome @Tinabn and Happy Birthday 🥳 for Friday! I posted a link about emotional eating recently, it might be useful. Nice to have you on board.

Great post @Crazzzycat 👍. I’ll post my summary later as not much time at the moment. Have guests for a roast and need to clean cook and get ready 😬

A warm welcome at @RestingStitchFace < great username 😬. Gym coupled with healthy nutritious food choices will soon get you where you want to be.

Enjoyed last night, didn’t over eat or over indulge in the bubbles department but had a great time nonetheless. Just really tired today as didn’t get to bed until 2:00am and body clock woke me initially at 6:00. Managed to get back to sleep and got up at 8:00 and now jet lagged 😬

Have a great day!

Welcome @shutthedamndoor and good luck.

I keep thinking about getting a treadmill as sometimes I just can't face running outside or the weather isn't safe, I run in wind and rain and hail but not allowed in thunder and lightning! As we have a rowing machine, a bench and an exercise bike I do wonder about something else but I've not found the bike to be conducive to weight loss whereas I know running is good for me.

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 10:04

Welcome @EnglishMuffins and well done for getting on it so quickly.

It was me @TheRealHousewife. I'm just waiting to hear if she is happy for me to send a PM. Some have them turned off.
