HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I'd like to join you if I may? I have around 5stone to lose. My partner (male) has around 8stone to lose and is diabetic (type 2) so we're going to be following a lower carb plan. Do we share meal plans in here or just Wednesday weigh ins?

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 19:38

A warm welcome @LemonKitten use the thread however you feel most helpful/comfortable. Share as much or as little as you’d like 👍. Have you read Dr Michael Moseleys Fast800 or the Blood Sugar Diet. He particular advocates for people who want to stabilise blood sugars and address diabetic issues. They are based on the Mediterranean way of eating. Lower carb and higher protein. Good luck 🤞

@SunshineCake1 Will be thinking of you tomorrow ❤️

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. Can I WhatsApp you please? Feel I need to talk to someone Sad. No offence to the group, I just can't put it in the web and TRH knows some of it already.

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 19:42

@SunshineCake1 off course my lovely, no need to ask ❤️

All the best for your procedure tomorrow, @SunshineCake1.

LaBelleSausage · 30/12/2021 21:43

I'm in!

Mainly going to count calories and stop eating the kids leftovers (2 and 4).
I logged today what they left and I would have mindlessly snacked on and it was over 800calories of food, so I'm hoping one small change will make a big difference.

My sisters wedding is in mid feb, after being postponed a couple of times and my (large) bridesmaids dress which I would have been wearing 6 months postpartum now has to go to my other sister who will be 8 months pregnant. Leaving me with her small. Eeep.

Thankfully I think that's motivation enough and I'm convinced I can lose a stone in 6 weeks.

sarahtalkstoomuch · 30/12/2021 22:08

I’m in too! I’ve lost 1.5 stone in 2021, by 5:2 and doing light weight based circuits at home. I’ve just weighed myself and I’ve put on 5lbs in December. Not surprised and it could have been worse but I want to get back on track as it’s a slippery slope for me. I want to lose about another stone in total. I’ve fasted today, going to try and relax for the next 72 hours

HostessTrolley · 30/12/2021 22:47

Can I join please?

I’ve been hiding behind weighing in kilos but am facing the reality of needing to lose 5 stones. I gained a lot while caring for my anorexic daughter then lockdown didn’t help. She is now in good recovery, but also has a 24 week term when she goes back to uni in January, so it’s a good opportunity for me to focus on my own health without worrying about affecting her.

I’m planning to do IF - maybe not as low as 800 calories but I’m a snacker, so having time based boundaries will be a good thing. Also planning to increase protein and water - and get myself to Pilates a couple of times a week. I start a new job soon after being self employed for years, and also turn 50 soon, so lots of motivation.

Just the fridge full of cheese to consider….

TheRealHousewife · 30/12/2021 23:15

A warm welcome @LaBelleSausage @sarahtalkstoomuch @HostessTrolley

Doable with diligence @LaBelleSausage! All depends on how much you have to lose in total. More to lose = more initial loss versus Less to lose = less initial loss iyswim.

Well done on your loss so far @sarahtalkstomuch 👍👏

Upping water & protein is beneficial to weight loss @hostesstrolley !

@SunshineCake1

Welcome to all the new newbies.

@Chocolatetrifle not fun as it may be, I would say get on the scales as then you'll have a starting point and you'll know when you have lost something. I would also recommend using a tape measure, I measured my right thigh and my tummy across my tummy button. This really helped when the scales said I was staying the same but the tape measure said I was smaller.

Welcome @poopyface and good call re the alcohol. Nice as it is at times it can be empty calories.

SW October 2019 - 14 stone.
Eventually tested and was food intolerant to so many things.
No time at all - 12.5 stone.
April 2020 - got covid.
May 2020 - started couch 25 km.
August 2020 - 11 stone 13.4 lb.
Oct 2020 - 11 stone 6.2lb
Nov 2020 - 11 stone 0.8 lb
May 2021 - 10 stone 13.2lb.
July 2021 - 10 stone 10.6 lb
September - November poorly with glandular fever, a week in hospital and 10 weeks in bed with no running. Usually I run 5 times a week.
Today 11 stone 10.6

Just to show ^ that this is why I am in the 🐢🐢🐢🐢club, that sometimes illness gets in the way but I have kept going and will keep trying.

Covid test was negative so I'm good to go for my procedure tomorrow. Had a nice chat with my oldest friend this morning as still worrying I won't wake up from the general anaesthetic. May just have light sedation but it seems more likely it will be a GA.

Can I please ask where you did your intolerance tests? Sorry you've been so poorly, you did really well with the weight loss! I'm sure you'll have it nailed in no time
Akitamum · 31/12/2021 00:41

I would like to join! I have lost and gained weight so many times. Lost about 5st with weight watchers, 3st with the 5:2 but when I try things a second time they never seem to work. I think I will try a Mediterranean diet, no snacking, much less alcohol and avoiding sugar and processed carbs. Need to lose around 2-3 stone but seem to be less able to lose weight the older I get! 46 years old, want to get in shape so I am in a good place for the coming years.

SunshineCake1 · 31/12/2021 04:47

@onwardsandupwards22 I went privately. If you are in or near Kent I can give you details.

LaBelleSausage · 31/12/2021 07:22

@TheRealHousewife I put on 9lb over December as I had sort of assumed the wedding would be off!
4lb gone since Christmas so hopefully achievable!

I think the closer you are to the gain, the easier it is to come off. I just need to be a lot more mindful.

Thank you for the warm welcome to the thread

Dumpydump · 31/12/2021 08:41

Please can I join? ☺️ Over 5 stone to lose. I am calorie counting with MyFitnessPal and trying to walk more.

Start weight: 15st 2lbs 😮
Target weight: 10st

FireworkParrot · 31/12/2021 08:49

Well, I bought a pair of size 14 jeans yesterday and they don't do up Sad. I think that's the kickstart I need as I really do not want to but clothes in a bigger size. I can get the bottom button done but not the top one so I'm going to keep them and set getting into those jeans as my first goal.

I've also found a low impact HIIT workout on YouTube that looks good for anyone with back/core/pelvic organ issues that I'm going to try out. Will report back!

SunshineCake1 · 31/12/2021 09:01

That's reminded me, I have loads of clothes sitting not being worn if anyone wants some to tide them over rather than buying brand new.

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2021 09:23

Good Morning All - Last Day of 2021!

Overall you’ve done great @SunshineCake1! You’ve had a tough year and kept on it. Running like the wind and getting somewhat fitter overall. Your stats overall are positive when you look how far you’ve come and you’ve kept the majority off. You’ve also been a supportive and motivational member of these threads. Thank you 🙏 We have 2022 to look forward too and I’m sure it will be a great year! PS Thinking of you today ❤️

A warm welcome @LemonKitten @Akitamum @Dumpydump

@Akitamum Frustratingly getting older does seem to slow weight loss down as does illness, conditions, medications, activity levels, sleep quality etc. However we can mitigate those aspects by trying to get more quality sleep, being mindful when eating, portion control, reducing sugar/alcohol etc. You can do this!

@FireworkParrot Are the jeans a brand/style you’ve had before? Sizes vary massively. I myself have jeans in sizes 4 - 10. All different brands/styles. They all fit 😮 Clearly my smaller sizes are guilty of being vanity sized. No matter what the label says they can act as a measuring tool. In the not too distant future you’ll be running all excited to our threads exclaiming you’ve done them up to the top comfortably and you feel and look great! 😊 Keep visualising that! Could you share a link for the HIIT please? It sounds interesting.

@DumpyDump it might help for you to break down your goal into smaller segments and firm up your method. Results mostly rely on using a consistent method. You can do this!

@LaBelleSausage I agree weight loss is a complex business and not just cals in versus cals out (although I use cc as part of plethora of methods) as there are many variables that affect gain/loss etc. Apply yourself with diligence and your gain will soon be gone. Imagine what you’d like to look like and feel like this time next month. That’ll help.

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry (same as earlier this week 😋)
Meal 2 - Coffee table buffet, bubbles & Hootenanny 🎉 🍾 🍱 🎶

Have fun!

Please can i join?

Baby weight from over 5 years ago never went, and now has more layers of fat on. I have never weighed more than i do now, even when pregnant Hmm . A mixture of boredom, unhappiness, and a love of chocolate hasn't helped!

So now have over 6 stone to lose. Will be starting with Exante meal replacements with a meal, hopefully to remove the need to have as much crap food in the house which i eat!!

Fashionesta · 31/12/2021 09:31

I'm in. Gone from a size 16 to a 20 over the past 4 years. News to lose around 5 stone. Really struggle with stress and boredom eating in the evenings. Rejoined the gym so my goal is to get strong and fitter and shape up but also lose weight.

Nearly 50 so menopause definitely doesn't help the cause.

LaBelleSausage · 31/12/2021 09:38

@2022wontbecrap I have some of the Exante Juiced sachets to try as I plan to use them when I move to 5:2.

Sampled the blood orange/orange one and it was...actually fine. Reminded me of sunny delight.

I've never been able to stomach any sort of protein anything before but these seem quite nice! Which ones have you gone for? I'd be interested in how the rest of their products are.

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2021 09:40

A warm welcome @2022wontbecrap … love your user name 😬 2022 will be your year of transformation 👍. Can you remove the temptation of chocolate by not having it in the house? Some people can have just a square and leave the rest. Some people can’t. If you’re the later you’ll need to be an abstainer. You have a plan and with determination and diligence you can do this!

A warm welcome @Fashionesta. Getting back into fitness as well as making healthier food choices is a great way forward. Do you have any activities/hobbies you could do in the evenings to address boredom and keep your hands busy. Also I make a point of cleaning and closing my kitchen after my last meal (apart from kettle for a hot drink) and that creates a ‘virtual barrier’. It does help.

Well DH went out to watch footy and whilst he was out I devoured Christmas pudding, lashings of custard and a full bottle of red, and lots of chocolate. I felt physically sick , belly ache and did not sleep a wink. Very emotional eating going on there. So have taken action and just hopped on the scales and they are as follows
11 stone 9 pounds
Also got the tape measure out
40 inches belly
43 inches hips
26 inches thigh
Considering what I have consumed I thought I would be tipping 12 stone so that is a positive. Was planning on exercise but DH has just rang for a lift from the train station blinking heck!!! Will squeeze some in at some point today. Not having breakfast and will have soup for lunch, not sure about tea yet.

Stade197 · 31/12/2021 09:59

I would love to join please! I got to a good weight, was running 2x a week and was doing around 15-20,000 steps a night at work but then i got pregnant, baby is 4 months now so its time to get my bum in gear, im nearly 3 stone heavier than this time last year!

I need to cut out chocolate & biscuits and get back into running asap! And more walking!

Youdoyoutoday · 31/12/2021 10:51

@LemonKitten welcome! I second the fast 800 recipe book, I don't actually follow the plan but the recipes are great for low carb!
Good luck
