HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@Akitamum I'm a after work snacker too! I keep babybel lights and boiled eggs in my fridge, so when I come home I can raid those. Quick and easy to grab and full of protein so they fill me up more than if I grabbed a biscuit.

Yesterday came finished on 1193 cals so managing to keep the period eating at bay. Hopefully the scales will start to drop again. Treated myself to a new pair of boots yesterday as boots don't care what weight I am!!

Plan for today
Meal one - can't face another uninspiring salad so going to get a shop bought salad/pasta pot with a yoghurt for pud
Meal two - prawn stir fry with extra bean sprout and a hoisin sauce

Youdoyoutoday · 17/01/2022 09:44

Bootcamp done and I feel so tired now. I'm going to potter about and get the housework done.

Going to start my new resolutions today though I think it will be more tea drinking than water today, I'm so cold!

I bought a new wobble board over the weekend so i will be using that for my extra exercises each for now, should be good for my core which definitely needs toning.

Happy Monday 🌞

ImALittlePea · 17/01/2022 09:51

Morning! I didn't track calories AT ALL over the weekend 😬 but straight back to it this morning. And tbf that has worked for me for the first two weeks so I'm hoping for more of the same this week.

I'm VERY hormonal today though and had a pretty difficult weekend with my 7yo 😏 so let's just hope I can keep on top of my motivation and willpower. I've just done the food shop and stuck to the list, which is something in itself in my current mood!

Plan for today:
B - cuppa
L - ryvita, low fat houmous with veggies on top
D - loaded jacket potato (w/cheese and spring onion) with a big salad

Snack so far has been a satsuma.

Have a good week all.

Crazzzycat · 17/01/2022 09:57

boots don’t care what weight I am.

I wish this was true for me @ginsparkles, but unfortunately I have a few pairs of lovely boots in my wardrobe that say otherwise 😔 First I was too fat to get them to zip up over my calves. Then I lost a shedload of weight and got all excited to wear them again...only to find that all the exercise I’d been doing means that my legs are now too muscular for the boots to fit 😂 Better fit than fat I guess, but it’s still a little annoying!

As I reported before, last week wasn’t the greatest food wise, but I did a good job on the exercise, if I do say so myself!

Progress on my 2022 km in 2022 challenge below. First number is progress last week, number in brackets are totals so far this year. I look to be on track to do more than 200 km this month, which I’m very happy about 😊

Walk: 27.22 km (47.46)
Cycle: 12.20 km (52.01)
Row: 17.56 km (43.31)
X-trainer: 5.13 km (10.40)

Total last week: 62.11 km
Total so far: 153.18 km

Food wise, I’m easing myself back into being more sensible again. I haven’t weighed myself yet, but I expect the scales to be showing an upward trend. Time to reverse it!

ginsparkles · 17/01/2022 10:10

@Crazzzycat oh no! Mean boots!! Luckily these are ankle boots Wink

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/01/2022 11:19

Well done on getting back to Bootcamp you. I'm struggling to get back to it this year too. It feels like its all such an effort - mental debate over food the whole time. It's exhausting. Last year I was just in zone, and got on with it. Much tricker now.

I've still not lost this month. Yes better than a gain, but frustrating with all the "effort". Can't remember who said last page about having to restrict even further (celebrations & jim beam & cook) - but the only way I lost last year was to cut out ALL snacking. zilch. I am so glad I did as it is so worth it now. But the will-power is definitely waning now though.

NSV this week - I had (expensive) brand new tag on jeans from Nov 2018, size 30 waist. They finally fitted yesterday, and I felt FAB !!

It's weird now though - I look at my body and still see fat, even though there isn't so much any more. I feel I have no perception of my size. I still feel like the "big" girl when really I probably have never been as big as my head tells me. Or maybe I have? Who knows?!

Part of my historic over and comfort eating is not being happy or confident in myself emotionally to deal with what life throws at me, and absorbing & believing the negative stuff. I'm working on that, which is very hard. But I'm proud of myself for finally addressing the tricky stuff rather than just being angry for eating chocolate & drinking wine!

Sorry - seem to be very much on a tangent here ... but just want to offer a big supportive hug to anyone needing it. We are all amazing (and we don't need food to make us feel amazing!)

8stone13 · 17/01/2022 11:29

Day 16 - Mon 17th Jan - 9s 3lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.6

I'm surprised at such a loss, I woofed my way through some peanuts, fudge & a bit of chocolate yesterday 😀 I was physically very busy though which must have balanced it out.

I visibly look smaller now & clothes that were tight now fit well & those that were a good fit are now a bit loose...

The next battles are hydration (my analyser scales telling me what I knew, which is that I haven't drunk as well these last few days due to rushing about) & widening my horizons meals-wise 🤔

8stone13 · 17/01/2022 11:31

@buzzofthebumblebee My head virtually fell off through nodding at every sentence of your last post. I haven't much to add but I hear you on everything from the perception of the body, to the cutting snacks to zero... 🙂

TheRealHousewife · 17/01/2022 11:47

Good Morning All

Great step count @Raspberry12 👍👏🏅

@galacticpixels the sweet potato and coconut soup sounds a great combo!

@Akitamum great to read you’re feeling much more positive!

@Youdoyoutoday I got a wobble board a couple of years ago but I haven’t carried on with it as I found it difficult. You’ve inspired me to have another go!

Fabulous progress @Crazzzycat, well done. I’m proud to report I’ve done at least 20mins 20seconds of walking a day 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee it sure is a lovely feeling doing up a garment which previously didn’t quite fit 👍👏

@8stone13 great progress 👍👏🏅

Menu
Meal 1 - Chicken, vegetable and mixed bean soup.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Afternoon everyone

Well done @buzzofthebumblebee. Enjoy those jeans!

Weight wise it isn't going down but I've increased my veg intake a lot and I've done 5km on the treadmill this morning. It is a lot harder than running outside as I'm running at a constant speed.

Not sleeping well and feel so worried for my friend so I'm shattered. I'm concentrating on trying my best and not beating myself up when I need a rest or want some chocolate.

Crazzzycat · 17/01/2022 12:17

Well done on your 20 minutes exercise a day @TheRealHousewife! That’s great stuff.

I too recognise so much in your post @buzzofthebumblebee. It’s so difficult to keep the enthusiasm and momentum going long term. I’m just trying to accept that I will have days or weeks where I can’t be bothered. As long as there’s more days when I do try, that’s ok.

Also I found having goals other than weightloss really helpful. Last year when I really struggled, I tried eating 50 different plant foods each week, for a couple of weeks. That really helped to remind me of the main reason I’m doing this, which is to feel good and be as healthy as possible. Looking better is an added bonus for me, but not as important to me, as how I feel.

It’s really good that you’re looking at the psychology behind eating. In my entirely unscientific opinion, I’m certain that psychological reasons play a massive part in the majority of cases where people become overweight, or obese. It’s a hard one to crack, but being aware is the essential first step.

And congrats on your NSV! I find things like that so much more motivating than the number on the scales 🥳

Crazzzycat · 17/01/2022 12:35

I meant 30 plant foods a week, not 50 🤦🏻‍♀️

129orbust · 17/01/2022 12:35

Well done @buzzofthebumblebee on those jeans and everyone where the scales are not going upwards.
I had a roast pork dinner with ALL the trimmings last night so I am not weighing in today - I will tomorrow but who wants to see a gain first thing on a Monday morning? Wink

8stone13 · 17/01/2022 13:08

@galacticpixels Could I have the recipe for your sweet potato & coconut soup please? Sounds delicious 🙂

Can I ask, what's an NSV?! I do love a Mumsnet acronym, I've been trying to work it out - New Slim Version (of oneself?!) No Snacking Virtue?! Not Smiling Verymuchduetolackofcake?! 😀

Akitamum · 17/01/2022 13:10

Great idea @ginsparkles, will stop at Tesco on the way home and stock up! Thanks @TheRealHousewife, today is going well so far, weather is nice, work is going well and I have eaten healthy but filling food. Going to keep up the positivity!

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/01/2022 13:18

Thank you for very supportive replies. Another of my "things" is not saying out loud what I am thinking (for fear of criticism), so nice to have the encouragement. I am grateful to you all. Will help me to not snack today. You are right - good idea to have a different focus Crazzy.

NSV - I think is Non-scale victory.

Congrats on your loss 8stone13 . And your dinner last night sounded lovely 129. And sorry for all your worry over your friend sunshine. Congrats on your daily walking theReal.

8stone13 · 17/01/2022 13:52

@buzzofthebumblebee Thanks - Non-Scale Victory is a good one, I'll remember that 👍🏻

Do please keep sharing your thoughts. Yours was a really good post to read, it helped me cohere many of my thoughts & reflections 🙂

swampytiggaa · 17/01/2022 15:52

Is a wobble board worth getting? Thinking I could use one whilst watching tv but not sure how good it would be… I need to tone my tummy area for sure 😊

Youdoyoutoday · 17/01/2022 16:54

@TheRealHousewife I found it easier to use with my trainers on, maybe give that a go.

@buzzofthebumblebee please don't be disheartened by not losing! Honestly if I had a quid for every time I wanted to throw in the towel or the strops I had over not losing, I'd be rich! It's hard, it really is but you have to stick with it.

Last year, I stopped drinking for a month and lost 10lbs then nothing for a good couple of months, it was so annoying but maintaining what I had lost was and still is a huge win.

If you're stuck on a plateau, have a read of this, it really helped me

Youdoyoutoday · 17/01/2022 16:56

Also @buzzofthebumblebee when I started exercising, 3 x bootcamp and 2 x swimming a week, i didn't lose any weight at all but my body changed loads.
It's not all about the scales!

Youdoyoutoday · 17/01/2022 17:04

@swampytiggaa I can't say for sure if a wobble board is of any use but it beats sitting down and I can feel muscles working when I'm on it.

Here's an article I found
www.healthline.com/health/fitness/balance-board-exercises#what-they-are

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/01/2022 17:13

Thank you @Youdoyoutoday !! And can I just say @Crazzzycat I have the same problem with boots! So frustrating isn't it? Impressive distance covered so far btw.

Hope the hormones don't rage too much today @ImALittlePea and you stick to your meal plan.

Ste23321 · 17/01/2022 17:14

Can I please join? I’m feeling really demotivated and huge at the moment. I tried to go on a healthy eating plan today but just ploughed thorough 3 packets of walkers cheese n onion and a packet of cookies! I’m 5”1 and weigh around 11stones. Have my sisters wedding in April! That’s my motivation. I will start my healthy eating tomorrow.

SunshineCake1 · 17/01/2022 17:25

Welcome @Ste23321. Eating all the crisps is fine as you can't eat them again tomorrow.

Everyone who is struggling. Hang in there. I was the one last year constantly sulking and stropping as everyone else was losing loads and losing most weeks. It did eventually start to come off. I went through losing the same stone a few times and then the same half stones a few times and before I was poorly in September I had kept three stone off consistently. I'm now losing the same stone again but have hope I've done it before so I can do it again.

Ste23321 · 17/01/2022 17:33

Thank you @SunshineCake1

Can I just ask - so I put what I eat in a day on here or is it just the weigh in every Wednesday? I’m still reading through all the posts so not sure!
