HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Thank you all for the support! This is why I love this thread. Well done on those who are still losing and if you haven't lost then keep going, you're doing great! I'm back on it today and I'll make sure to eat more regularly and drink more, I think that's why I was feeling tired and dizzy. I think the job should be sorted out by the end of the day.

@Nomoreusernames1244 - I'm aiming for 115lbs (8st 3) and I'm 5ft 2!

@Ginsparkles - omg me too! My partner likes to make it even and fair and we end up eating the same amount. When I first met him I used to have much smaller portions and feel full and then recently it was his-sized portions and still feeling hungry. He's 6ft 1 and I'm a foot shorter so I really put on the pounds with his portions!

SunshineCake1 · 12/01/2022 13:21

What about cous cous salad @swampytiggaa? I have a good recipe book with salads , pasta, noodles and rice dishes if you have any favourites and I can type them out.

8stone13 · 12/01/2022 13:54

I empathise with all of you who have 6' husbands & find yourselves matching their portions - my partner is female & doesn't live with me but it's still no coincidence that I started putting on the weight a month or two after we got together, having kept it off for years. Some is the snacking, some is age-related, but some is being with a stocky lass who can eat far more than me! She also doesn't have the best diet & has tempted me into the likes of Burger King 🤨 I've realised I've moved more to her diet/lifestyle & it doesn't work for me. It's one of the things I'm addressing... 🤔

Graphista · 12/01/2022 15:24

@8stone13 glad to have helped well done on the NSV of clothes fitting better. I have ocd so I have to watch the obsessiveness too. I'm not actually allowed to do a weight loss plan unless my dr/therapist ok's it as ocd can tip into ED if not careful.

I think for a lot of us it's an ongoing work

Definitely

@marmilade92 hope you get the job thing sorted! That sounds ridiculous

@buzzofthebumblebee I'm more of a savoury person too so have to watch the nuts etc

@supertedious you won't be alone in slow and steady - joint the 🐢 club!

Those of you aiming for under 9st, are you all short?

Yes I'm only 5'2" so every pound shows!

@TheRealHousewife thanks for the praise on my graph, it's not doing so well at the moment! But I'll get it going again!

For those who don't yet know me

SW 13 stone 12.5lbs

CW 12 stone 12lbs Xmas clearly not good for me! That's 2.25lbs on since last weigh in 3 weeks ago 4 lbs above lowest weight so far. But I expected a gain at this point I'm not overly worried given I know from last year I CAN get it under control again - which is not me being complacent.

So 2.25lbs gain

GW - at least down to 9st 10lbs which is top end of healthy bmi for me but actually I wanna be around 8/8.5 stone as that's where I am most comfortable and look my best. Under 8 stone - which I have been in the past - I look gaunt and have health issues it's too light for me.

Well done to all with losses
Those gaining/sts - keep at it!

@cherrytree63 could you ask dh to let you know when he's serving up and then you can say how much you want?

@ShoppingBasket yes it's quite common when starting a weight loss plan to lose a fair amount initially as you're no longer eating the amount on which you were not only maintaining but gaining! My ww leader taught us similar and others I know have said the same with other plans/clubs. Then it evens out a bit more. Gains are part of the process but you just obviously want losses more than gains.

@SunshineCake1 you've had a LOT of stresses this last couple of months so try not to be too hard on yourself - which is your tendency

Would really appreciate some microwave recipes/ideas if you guys have some?

I need ideas for easy stuff I can take to work rather than just a sandwich. I don’t want to be picking something up there for cost and health reasons

Think I've said on other threads but maybe good for you to have a reminder?

Soups/stews/casseroles/chilli/curry if you can either keep em hot or heat them there
Cous cous based recipes
Buddha bowls
Jacket potatoes (as you know I like the frozen McCain ones but you can take a plain potato) top with cottage cheese, ratatouille, beans etc (for the receipt issue decant into micro dishes/Tupperware?)

To those speaking on men/women portions. While I don't agree with sexist reasons the fact is that women are not only shorter but we have a lower muscle mass too. This means men need and use more cals (why it's generally easier for them to lose weight too) maybe talk to your men about this? Ask them to help you by serving smaller and less carby portions? It may be easier if you can give them a specific amount - a weight or x spoonfuls using that spoon?

Off to do something will post more later

Note to self up to midday on reading through

ginsparkles · 12/01/2022 15:34

@Graphista that is definitely what I am learning to do with my DH. He'll have scampi and chips, gammon and chips etc, I now ask him to do me just a couple of chips if any, and then I have a large salad on the side. I have now also taken on the role of sous chef, so he cooks and then calls on me to serve, that way I can manage the portions and explain to him again why I have only taken the small bowl!

I also notice today that I eat out of habit. Today I had my salad and yoghurt as normal but as I reached for the apple fruit bar, I thought why am I eating that? I'm not hungry. I realised how many times I must eat something just because i usually do, not because I'm actually hungry. I'm trying to be more mindful of when I'm actually hungry.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 12/01/2022 17:26

Hi all,
Sorry, it’s been a hugely busy few days and I’ve not had much time to post/read.
Hope everyone is doing ok. I’ll try and get better at replying to everyone.

Pleased to report still 100% on track since Jan 1st. Weighing in on Friday this week not Saturday as we are away for the weekend, which will be the first big test, but determined to keep strong!

Recycledblonde · 12/01/2022 17:27

I find portion size for me and DH a problem. There are a lot of people on MN complaining about so called 'penis portions' but I really don't want to eat the same size portion as DH and I certainly don't need to. I do wish restaurants had the option of a smaller portion, I do go for a starter size if offered but I'd love to have the chance to have a 4oz steak or one piece of fish, I'd even pay the same price.

Chimchimcharoo · 12/01/2022 17:42

Well weigh in was ok -1lb. I haven’t been totally perfect and it’s in the right direction. A swim again tonight with my daughter this time. Getting more activity into our family routine is a one of my goals this year!

I am not sure who said about lunch but I generally take leftovers in a microwave tub. Or batch cook some soup for the week in cold weather.

cherrytree63 · 12/01/2022 18:20

@Graphista I try to serve myself as much as possible but he goes into "martyr who's only trying to help" mode Grin
I'm 5'3 and aiming for just under 9stone.

Raspberry12 · 12/01/2022 19:35

14k step count today and I managed to make some decent meals with leftover things :)

Breakfast: leftover apple crumble with cream

Lunch: warm salad with kale, red onions and leftover roast chicken + tahini & chilli dressing

Dinner: roasted cauliflower, spicy minced beef, red peppers and chickpeas with brown basmati rice.

Snacks: macchiato, 1 black filter coffee, raspberries with greek yoghurt, 1 square dark chocolate

@ginsparkles I also sometimes eat out of habit or boredom - the two seem to come together in the evenings so I’ve been trying to kick the habit of a night time snack. It’s sooo hard! I’m still having to fight through thee urge but after a week without evening snacks I feel much better for it.

ginsparkles · 12/01/2022 19:39

@Raspberry12 ... oh yes the snacks! Sitting in front of the tv, I'm itching to reach for the biscuits or crisps .... have taken to having a large glass of squash by me, and I have glug of that when I feel the snacking urge!

Raspberry12 · 12/01/2022 19:47

I’m 5’3 and a size 12 (sometimes 14) at the moment and aiming to get down to a 10. I don’t weigh myself or own scales… I don’t know why but I feel like I would find weighing myself demotivating 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyone else not weighing?

campingqueen121 · 12/01/2022 22:23

Well done everyone, some amazing losses, I think I'm going to weigh tomorrow, can't wait until next Monday.

@marmilade92 hope you get it sorted.

@Nomoreusernames1244 I'm 5'3 goal weight is to be under 9.

I've had some really busy days, didn't prep lunch and didn't have time to make any, so ended up snacking, thankfully only on rice cakes and fruit, last month that would have been chocolate and cheese. Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow.

campingqueen121 · 13/01/2022 07:53

Weighed myself (first thing, naked, post loo, pre drink) and I am now 130.2lbs, so almost 7 lbs down from when I weighed myself on either the 2nd or 3rd. At least 3lb of that was Christmas weight which I think I would have lost as soon as I went back to my normal way of living and I'm guessing some is water. But I've also been really good the last 10 days and it's paid off so yey. I know the next 3 or 4 lbs aren't going to fall off so quickly, but I feel I'm on the right track and definitely in the right head space.

Today's meals
Breakfast : special k skimmed milk
Lunch : ham salad
Dinner : something at mum's

cherrytree63 · 13/01/2022 07:57

@campingqueen121 that's a great loss, congratulations!

129orbust · 13/01/2022 08:43

That's amazing @campingqueen121 you are an inch taller than me too.
So I have hit 132.8 lbs this morning - another 0.2.
Off for a walk in 15 mins so should throw on some clothes if I don't want to scare the neighbourhood.
Check in properly tomorrow.

8stone13 · 13/01/2022 08:47

Morning everyone 🙂

Day 12 - Thurs 13th Jan - 9s 4 & 1/4lb = 3/4lb loss

I have an unavoidably ridiculous day ahead & it starts in around 10 mins - I expect to walk about 320,000 steps & burn up around eleventy million calories 😀

Have a good day all 🙂

2022wontbecrap · 13/01/2022 08:59

I weighed in yesterday but i went to the office yesterday so only have now caught up with the thread!

05/01 Start Weight 250lbs shock
WI 12/01 Loss of 6.8lbs
Goal Weight 168lbs (12 stone)

I know a lot of it is water weight but it feels a good start, and a nice boost to carry on! Surprisingly only had a couple of moments wanting to eat chocolate, but i have resisted!

ginsparkles · 13/01/2022 09:34

Morning all!

Well done @campingqueen121 ! Fantastic loss.

Thursday is day off day for me so it's the worst day of the week. Meeting my friend for coffee this morning, so will avoid cake! Planning on having poached eggs on toast which will be a brunch. But then have to attempt to keep the rest of the day under control. Won't beat myself up too much if not as I think this is my only day off this week.

So the plan is :
Brunch - poached eggs on granary toast.
Early pm - low fat yoghurt with fruit
Dinner - jacket potato
Snacks - baby bel and banana.

Now all I have to do is stick to it Grin

TheRealHousewife · 13/01/2022 09:37

Good Morning All

Stunning morning here … cool, crisp & bright and when I’ve posted I’m off out for a crispy walk 🥶

Some fabulous losses being posted 👍👏🏅. It’s lovely to read all your updates!

@8stone13 hahaha 🤣 Best to be busy I find 👍You’re post about partners reminded me that when my met my 6ft other half (nearly 30 years ago) I was 7.5 stone of pure muscle 😬 and exactly half his weight! I wasn’t under weight as I’m petite framed, 5ft on a good day and was very active with exercise. My diet was clean and lean.

@campingqueen121 marvellous progress 👍👏🏅

@Raspberry12 it’s all about how you feel in regards to weighing. If not weighing is best for you, you can still measure progress with how you look, feel, the tape measure, clothes and compliments/comments. In my instance if i stop or avoid weighing I know it’s a sign that im not being so mindful around portion control etc and im in denial 🤫 So I try at least weekly 😬 I also have a partner who when plating up loads me up more than I would myself. 😈

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 it’s ok, life come first 😊 Nice to ‘see’ you around though. 👍

@swampytiggaa can you take left overs from main meals? Stir fry with chicken, quinoa with beans, peppers, chillis etc or soup or stew. I’m not good at pack ups any more.

Menu
Meal 1 - Vegetable soup & GF slice bread (small)
Meal 2 - Salmon tray bake & portion quinoa.
Tea, black coffee, water, walnuts.

Apologies if I’ve missed anyone … off out 🥶

Have a good one 👍

We don’t tend to have leftovers which is a bit of an issue 😂😂 I might pick some bits up after work tonight and create something

galacticpixels · 13/01/2022 12:38

So encouraging to see everyone's progress!

I got out for a walk before work this morning. Just on my lunch break now so going to do 30 mins on the spin bike.

Breakfast was porridge (as always), lunch is half a Goodfella's vegan falafel pizza, and dinner is a sweet potato and black bean casserole.

ginsparkles · 13/01/2022 13:23

@galacticpixels ... your dinner sounds delicious! Can you share the recipe?

8stone13 · 13/01/2022 13:26

I'd done over 11,000 steps by 11am & am knackered now 🤪 Had a short break before I need to dash to the next thing & I really needed a rest so I've come to Costa & had a hot chocolate with cream. I had hunger pangs by 10am which is my justification for such extra-curricular calorific consumption ☕️ 😀

I had 10 mins before my train so I nipped into Next & tried some clothes on, no purchases but I could see in the mirror that I'm noticeably slimmer which was satisfying 🙂

SunshineCake1 · 13/01/2022 13:27

Make an extra portion of dinner then have it for lunch the next day ?
