HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Morning everyone, hope you're all ok, feeling positive and ready for a new week.
I'm a bit miserable today, I finally got myself unbunged yesterday (sorry TMI) and whooped when the scales read at 62.2kg.
Today I've gone up to 62.5.
Had a sort of NLV yesterday, we had a lot of errands to do, got to 1pm and I was shopping, and I was really hungry.
Previously I'd have grabbed crisps or a bun or something to eat in the car, but I wasn't even remotely interested.
I'm feeling very mentally trapped at the moment because I can't drive for another 5 weeks and there's no public transport where I live.
I'm currently completely dependent on OH for my meals as I can't prep any food with my cast on, so although I'm not eating any sweet stuff or processed food, his meals are all based on potatoes, pasta and bread (and over cooked veg).
I'm not complaining, I'm lucky to have someone helping me.
I love salads but not when it's cold, I have to warm them up first Grin

Good Morning All

I had a sneaky peek on the scales this morning. Bounced up a lb. Pasta carbs do that to me! Hopefully it’ll bounce down again by Wednesday (and plus a bit more 😬)

@Raspberry12 good step count! 👍👏

@marmilade92 lovely loss you’ve had there 👍👏

You’re welcome @campingqueen121 Tasty menu too 👍😋

@swampytiggaa I’m sure all the walking you do will tone and sculpt! 👍👏

@Recycledblonde nice loss! Keep going now 😬👍👏

@ginsparkles tasty menu 👍👏. We have to eat delicious as well as nutritious foods to help keep us on track.

Enjoy you day!

Morning all! I’ve not been making the best food choices over the last few days, as I’m dealing with a lot of stress at the moment. I can’t see that getting any better in the short term, probably just worse 😬

Anyway somehow, when I got on the scales this morning, they were down to 75.9 kg (a loss of more than 2 lbs in a week). With the amount of chocolate I’ve been eating this week, that doesn’t make any sense, but I’ll take it and will use it to hopefully motivate me to stop stress eating. I don’t think I’ll ever understand weightloss 🤷‍♀️

In more positive news, I’ve been making good progress on my 2022 km in 2022 challenge, probably because I’m using exercise as a coping mechanism for stress 🙃 Here’s my numbers for last week.

Walk: 10.02 km (total 20.24)
Bike: 27.27 km (total 39.81)
Row: 20.40 km (total 25.39)
X-trainer: 5.27 km (total 5.27)

Total this week: 62.96 km
Total this year: 91.07 km

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 09:11

Morning everyone 🙂

Day 9 - Mon 10th Jan - 9s 5lb = 1/2lb inaccurate gain!

I made a roast chicken dinner yesterday, I didn't have masses of it but along with my freshly prepared vegetables & mash I cheated with M&S roast potatoes, gravy & Aunt Bessie's yorkshires! I always put on water weight when I eat anything processed - I put on at least 1lb overnight if I have a Chinese takeaway - so I know it's not a real 1/2lb gain. My palate has become so much more refined though, I could taste the salt so strongly in the shop bought stuff.

I've reduced my morning hot chocolate from a large to a small mug. I'm also dropping the cream I have in it. It's the one thing I love beyond any other treat & so far I've ring fenced it but I'm going to see how letting it go goes...😀

Wrt vitamins that were being discussed, I take a multivitamin every day, along with between 500-1000 mg vitamin C & 7.5-15mg zinc (depending on whether I take a half or whole effervescent tablet.) I also take a high strength vitamin D. I'm convinced this is part of what keeps me healthy as I virtually never ail, I barely get a sniffle when my kids have a cold, it must be 15 years since I had an actual cold to speak of 🤔

The weather looks a bit overcast today but no rain as yet so hopefully I'll get out for my first walk of this diet so far. Cold bright sunshine is predicted for the rest of the week so I'll have no excuse even if the drizzle saves me today 😀 ☔️ ☀️

CommanderBurnham · 10/01/2022 09:13

Hi all. I'm down 2lb!!! Covid fatigue means that I don't have the energy to snack.

I'm off the 16:8 wagon. I'm not sure if I can manage it tbh. Might try a 5:2. I want to do some kind of fasting as I am at high risk of diabetes.

Well done everyone who has lost so far.

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 09:14

@Recycledblonde That's fab 👏🏻 A loss is a loss & it's a great motivator to keep going 🙂

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 09:16

@swampytiggaa Whenever I hear 'pelvic floor' all I can thing of is Jean & Dolly on dinnerladies:

Dolly: I've worked on my pelvic floor, Jean's more or less let hers dangle 😀
Jean: And where's it got you, having a pelvic floor like a bulldog clip? 😆

Youdoyoutoday · 10/01/2022 09:30

Morning all!

Hope you're all OK.

Bootcamp done this morning, I really enjoyed being back!! And it was me who won the bootcamp prize so I'm really chuffed with that!! But I feel so tired now so I might actually have a little nap before cracking on with todays chore!

Swimming booked in for 6.30am tomorrow morning too!

I haven't weighed myself for a few days and I'm happy to stay off the scales for now and get back in to my routine, exercises each morning, food logging and prep, drinking water and teas! I will try to get in an extra 20 minutes a day, I think today it will be housework related though.

Happy Monday peeps ❤

swampytiggaa · 10/01/2022 09:55

@8stone13 I definitely think I’m more of a Jean 😭😭

Anyway. Survived my first evening shift in charge with no more than an undelivered frozen tote and a driver in a ditch 👍 reckon the only way is up after the start I’ve had 😂😂

Did my daily weigh in and I’ve sneaked back under 10st. Yay. Let’s hope it stays off 😊

Food today will be veg soup I’ve just made and then I’ll take a ham and cheese sandwich to work for my tea. Veggie girlchild will eat the soup for her tea so husband only has to sort the other 2 plus himself.

Well done everyone on still being here 👍

Hellohah · 10/01/2022 10:11

I'm going to post here, I think I have about 4 stone to lose. I haven't weighed myself BUT hardly any of my clothes fit me properly, so I know haha!

Just in the car waiting to start a Hiit Step class and might go to tesco and get weighed.

Reckon I'm about 13 stone, and would like to get down to 10 stone initially. And if that works 9 stone 5 would be my ideal.

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2022 10:50

Welcome to the thread @Hellohah. Well done on deciding to change your lifestyle and getting fitter & healthier. Meeting smaller milestones can be really motivating. Perhaps 1/2 stone increments. I used to use an app Called Happy Scale and you set your own goals. I set my to 1lb increments… every week I was getting starburst applause 😬. Enjoy your class! 👍👏

@8stone13 I’m the same with carbs. Same calories but if carbs up I gain 🤷‍♀️ Blood sugars fluctuating, insulin release (causes body to hang on to fat) & water gain. Weight management is increasingly complex as we get older.

@Youdoyoutoday well done on your boot camp 👍👏

@Crazzzycat @CommanderBurnham @swampytiggaa well done on your losses 👍👏🏅When we drop down into another stone bracket … the feeling is better than nooky 😬

Graphista · 10/01/2022 10:57

Well done to all posting losses

@Recycledblonde - actually loss of 1-3lbs a week is in much research found to lead to not only consistent loss over a period of time but you're also more likely to KEEP it off

And always - a loss is a loss! Sometimes you'll only lose 0.5lb it's still in the right direction!

Where I MUST improve is exercise! Planning on doing it mid afternoon as my fave radio show on at 4pm

Todays menu:

Breakfast was (yes I know 2 days in a row! Regulars will know how out of character this is for me) - 2 slices wholemeal toast, a little low fat spread, 2 eggs scrambled and earl grey tea

Lunch - soup & a bagel, my patented carrot snack , a yogurt and a piece of fruit

Dinner - vegetable stir fry (I've a ton of baby corn and mange tout to use - any ideas welcome!) with whole grain rice/quinoa

Which will leave me approx 200 cals for a light snack in the eve

Finished yesterday TWO cals under limit - I'm calling that a win especially for 1st day back

@Hellohah welcome - have you no scales at home?

I like to weigh wearing the same each time so it's an accurate record. Learned from doing ww that clothes and especially shoes can make a HUGE difference!

swampytiggaa · 10/01/2022 11:11

@Graphista I weigh naked 😱 in the morning after a cuppa and a wee. Don’t think WW or SW would like me doing that in public 😂😂

justjuggling · 10/01/2022 11:41

I am so hungry today! Am literally counting down til 12 so I can eat something!!

SunshineCake1 · 10/01/2022 11:55

Hi @Crazzzycat. It is good that you recognise that stress can sometimes mean over eating and you are on it. I think we have all had times where we've eaten loads and lost and done "well" and stayed the same or gained and I think that is where remembering that weight loss and gain isn't linear comes in. If you eat a massive cake today it might not show on the scales in the morning just as a day with the "right" calorie amount for loss won't show the next day. I hope whatever is going on isn't as bad as you fear.

I'm only on 64.02km for the year so far but I'm of behind in my average needed and I ran 8km this morning. Dh has bought me a treadmill so I'll be counting that too and using it when I want to run but not go outside.

Great loss @CommanderBurnham and could progress with your taste and recognising what isn't worth the calories and the extra salt, cream etc @8stone13.

Well done on winning the boot camp @Youdoyoutoday 🏅. I knew it would be you! I haven't weighed today. I felt really small and light but decided to wait until Wednesday as I'd rather miss a win than see a gain.

Welcome @Hellohah. If you don't want to weigh yourself what about measuring so you will have a starting point and will know you have got smaller. When the scales were saying I was the same or had gained it kept me going that the tape measure said I was actually smaller.

@justjuggling have some water. Always good.

I weigh naked too after a wee and after I have run. The scales say I lose a pound after a run when I have weighed before and after but I'm dubious.

For lunch dh has put jacket potatoes in the oven and I'll have tuna, corn and cheese with mine with some mayonnaise. No idea for dinner but maybe just crackers and cheese.

Still feeling very achey in my stomach. Didn't expect to still have this ten days after so wondering if I need to miss running for a bit more. They did say none for two weeks but I had stopped bleeding so thought it would be okay. Then I have started again so I should listen to my body really Sad.

Recycledblonde · 10/01/2022 13:36

Today I’ve had live yoghurt with raspberries and half a square of dark chocolate grated over it ( didn’t I intend it to be just half a square but very finely grated it looked enough) for breakfast, courgette and pea soup with 2 small slices of sourdough bread and an apple for lunch, was going to have a satsuma but was full so I’ll have that as a snack later if I’m hungry. Dinner is a hello fresh vegetable curry with rice.
I’ve also had a back/shoulder massage and express facial today. I try and have one a month as they’re half price on Mondays, with NHS discount I paid £36 for the two.Smile Bit of a non food treat. Before I started having them I’d treat myself to coffee and cake out each week. The money saved now goes into my massage pot.

marmilade92 · 10/01/2022 14:03

Wow, those numbers are awesome @Crazzzycat!

Thanks for reminding me about pelvic floor @8stone13, I must do mine!

campingqueen121 · 10/01/2022 14:26

Hi, hope everyone is doing well today.

@swampytiggaa fair enough it is pretty brutal.

I'm glad to hear that @Graphista. I don't think I could cope with needing to wee like this for too long.

So along with healthy eating and drinking water, I have swapped my normal tea, milk and two sugars for green or herbal tea but will treat myself to a nice cup of tea with sweetener when visiting friend's or family.

My meals today
Breakfast : Special K red berries with skimmed milk
Lunch : ham and cheese Salad plus left over chicken
Dinner : prawn stir fry
Snacks : banana and carrot, apple, lemon and ginger juice.

Really proud of myself as I'm pretty much addicted to cheese and mayo, I never have a salad without it being covered in the two, (actually I never walk past the fridge without cutting off a chunk of cheese) but today I measured out 15g cheese and swapped the mayo for salad cream. It wasn't quite the same but still really tasty. I also threw littlies lunch left overs in the bin rather than finishing off myself, that took some strength.

So far I have walked just over 5k which was 7149 steps, I was on my own so even got a bit of a sweat on. I will also be doing a T25 work out tonight.

I think I weighed myself on 2nd Jan, whilst I'm tempted to weigh again already I think I'm going to weigh myself every two weeks.

Keep up the good work everyone. X

Here to check in! I haven’t been able to keep up with all the posts but what I read are always really helpful. Yesterday, the scales a week on said I’d lost 2 pounds but I’m not convinced.. I don’t have the greatest scales and my inch measurements were all the same as week before. I’ll take it as a positive though - I certainly haven’t put anything on and I feel better in myself for no alcohol for 10 days. I’ve not had too many chocolate/cake cravings and those I’ve had I’ve not given into. Someone did bring mini eggs into the office, and, as it was the boss, it was rude to say no when offered - but only had one! Unheard of usually!!

I’ve also managed my TRE every day ie window for eating is 12-8 although I do have tea and coffee with milk in those hours - I can’t currently face going to black versions.. (if we eat a bit later at night I shift the next day eg eat at 9pm then nothing til 1pm).

These are massive pluses for me. I always need to go through some sort of ‘pre phase’ of cutting back before hard core fast diet..

I found a nice new notebook in the cupboard and this week I’m starting to write everything I eat down in that. I find this really helpful and knowing I’ll have to write it down keeps the cake devil in me from giving in.

2 full days in the office a week isn’t great as I’m sat on my backside for hours on end and I need to factor in more movement to my week somehow.

Generally feeling positive that I’ve ‘stopped the rot’ and not felt deprived or that I’m wanting to eat my arm off by the end of my overnight/morning fast.

Thank you for reading! Off now to catch up on reading some more posts in the thread 😊

Good Afternoon All

@Graphista great menu! I’m impressed you’re getting a breakfast in. Science says it’s the best way to kick start your metabolism 👍👏. Well done on coming in at the right cc yesterday!

@swampytiggaa I’m the same … butt naked after loo visit & before the first drink of the day 😬

@justjuggling if you’re really belly growling hungry I’d have something, although I think by the time you see this post you will have eaten.

@Recycledblonde Hope you enjoyed your treats of massage & facial. You do right to treat yourself! I like how you swapped calories for well-being 👍. Great swap!

Got my walk in before lunch 👍

Menu (forgot to post earlier)
Meal 1 - Halloumi, kale, carrot, red pepper, leak, sprout and butter bean stir fry.
Meal 2 - Chicken & Lentil soup.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Raspberry12 · 10/01/2022 18:46

14k step count today.

Breakfast: raspberries, greek yoghurt & linseeds
(I love the taste of this without anything sweet like honey, although it took a bit of getting used to at first)

Lunch: corn taco, cheddar and fried egg

Dinner: Spiced minced beef, chickpeas, red peppers & cauliflower with brown basmati rice

Snacks: macchiato, black filter coffee, 2 oatcakes with clotted cream, 1 date, 1/2 banana and grapes

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 18:52

I'm smiling at the weighing routines - I'm a daily weigher, post first wee & before I've drunk anything 😀

I made it out for my first walk 👏🏻 I took my dog with me & she ran along really well. Until late last year when we took her out we used to call it 'a drag' rather than 'a walk' as she hated it so much she'd plant herself down & virtually refuse to move 😀 We only did about 20 mins but it's better than nothing.

I had a load of honeydew melon this afternoon which I really enjoyed. Hoping to flush out yesterday's toxins! I've rediscovered nuts as part of this diet too, great source of protein & I'm really enjoying them 🌰

129orbust · 10/01/2022 20:00

Thought i would give you all a 👋🏻
I wimped out on weighing in this morning due to a giant slight miscalculation in the quantity of leftover Christmas pudding in a dish.
It looked like a portion and I heated it and poured double cream over it because that is how I like it and this last year has taught me to have things exactly how I want them and not regret it!
Anyhow it was lovely but it was obvious as I savoured every bite that it wasn't a portion - more like a very generous two portions at the very least.
So did I share it? Did I heck! I ate it all and it was delicious but quite honestly must have been about 1000 kcals with the cream - never mind the crisps and cheese and bread and wine etc. I had before it so I will weigh in tomorrow.
I did a Leslie walking video tonight also to try and balance the books...... As the video was not four hours long I am not sure it will - ah well nobody is perfect and it's a marathon not a sprint. Wink

onwardsandupwards22 · 10/01/2022 20:13

Hi all

Struggling to find what works for me - I've been practicing 16:8 since new year but no loss. I do feel like my stomach has changed shape Grin

However I can't decide whether to do 5:2 (worked for me in the past but I struggle to stick to it consistently as I have 2 young dc and myself all with chronic health issues including fatigue) or whether to take my tdee and knock off 500 calories. My tdee is only 1550 though so would be 1000 cals which I'm not sure is ok? I saw someone upthread saying they are doing it maybe @2022success ?

SunshineCake1 · 10/01/2022 20:13
