HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@onwardsandupwards22 Yes I am doing 16:8 and not going over 1000 calories a day for two weeks to kick start my weight loss.

I started at 12:12 and am now 12:6 after one week. I am using MFP too but it won't register my daily food as it says it's not enough.

I am not great at moderation, so this works well for me, but I think after two weeks I will be ready to increase calories a little. I have a disability which makes exercising very difficult, so my TDEE is only 1300 calories. I wfh in a tiny house, so if I can't exercise, I have to get below 1300 just to have a sniff at losing weight.

Give it a go - it's much easier to keep within the 1000 calories if you do 16:8. Good luck!

justjuggling · 10/01/2022 20:49

@Recycledblonde I LOVE a massage or a facial, what a lovely treat! Hope you felt relaxed afterwards.

Food today

Homemade leek & potato soup with cold roast beef sandwich on whole meal bread

Leftover homemade cauliflower cheese with peas and carrots

4 celebrations chocolates + lots of water

In an attempt to not get obsessive about losing weight, I’m not counting calories but wonder if I should be. Will see how weigh on goes on Wednesday and go from there.

ginsparkles · 10/01/2022 20:55

@8stone13 .... snap! Daily weigher here too! Post wee and before anything else!

@onwardsandupwards22 ... I'm not 16:8 or 5:2 although have in the past. My calories allow for 1300 but I'm pretty much always in at 1000. I don't eat breakfast so that probably helps, so I have my first meal at 12 and finish eating by 8 so whilst not actively doing 16:8 it's probably more or less what I'm doing! It works for me, I don't feel hungry.

Day ending today on 1093. Now sitting waiting for Dd to fall asleep!

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 21:22

Which are the best apps for tracking calorie intake?

2022weightlossusername · 10/01/2022 21:30

@8stone13 I love Nutracheck. Loads like MFP but I can’t get my head around it.

I am dreading my first weigh in on Wednesday. If you don’t get a loss that first week it’s so hard to keep going. Even just 1b will help keep me motivated.

onwardsandupwards22 · 10/01/2022 21:38

Thanks both @ginsparkles @2022success I think I will try 1000 cals first and if I can't stick to that then will work towards adding fast days back in. I think I really need to be flexible and this is what I struggle with - I want a rigid routine but my life doesn't allow for that

8stone13 · 10/01/2022 21:51

Thanks @2022weightlossusername 🙂

Good luck for Weds 🤞🏻 Even if you don't lose weight, don't lose heart. I was 1/2lb heavier this morning, it's a blow & an irritation but we'll get there if we just keep going. There's tons of support on this thread to help us too 🙂

Crispynoodle · 10/01/2022 21:58

Me too

swampytiggaa · 10/01/2022 22:40

Worked a late again today. 16k steps done. Absolutely shattered but at least no one got stuck in a ditch tonight so I’ll take that as a win 👍

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 10/01/2022 23:12

A pound down, ffs a bloody pound!! I suppose it's not so bad considering I'm still munching my way through Christmas crap but oh gif the evenings are my weakness!!

129orbust · 11/01/2022 07:44

Thank-you for your support of my little blip dear @SunshineCake1 Very pleased to report that a less indulgent day yesterday has done it's stuff and I am back to Saturday's 133.4 again.
Right now I must focus and say goodbye to the cheese, crisps, biscuits - at least there is no longer any Christmas pudding left!
There is still Christmas cake ..... but that's another story.
Onwards and inwards!

ginsparkles · 11/01/2022 08:37

Well done @Fooshufflewickjbannanapants ! A lb is a loss, celebrate it. I know it's hugely frustrating but it's still going the right way.

Busy day today so hopefully no time for snacking. Exhausted though as am trying to wean DD (9) off co sleeping and it's tiring for us both. She suffers horribly with anxiety so the thought of being alone in her room makes her feel sick, then I can't leave her, and there we are vicious circle! Hey ho! I'm sure we'll find a way!!

Meal wise today looks like this:
Meal 1 - salad with the left over salmon from last night, yoghurt and apple bake bar
Meal 2 - tomato and chick pea curry.
Snack - banana and copious fluids!! Struggled to get the drink in yesterday so will try harder today.

Happy Tuesday Smile

8stone13 · 11/01/2022 09:01

Morning all 🙂

Day 10 - Tues 11th Jan - 9s 4 & 3/4lb = 1/4lb loss

Total loss: 5 & 1/4lb

I downloaded MFP & was astonished to learn that the nuts I had yesterday amounted to pretty much the same number of calories I'd consumed across the day at that point! I'd better watch my new nut addiction... 🌰

@TheRealHousewife What happens when we meet target goal, or decide we've lost enough & just want to maintain - can we stay on this thread? Or is there a maintenance thread elsewhere I wonder 🤔 Tbh I think even when I'm comfortable to stop this diet the bigger challenge is going to be watching I don't end up putting it all back on 😬

Have a good day everyone 🙂

supertedious · 11/01/2022 09:22

Morning all,

Good news: I ran/walked my first 5k yesterday so happy Smile

swampytiggaa · 11/01/2022 09:23

@8stone13 are you me? 😂😂 10 days in and I’ve lost 5.5lbs 😂😂 I’m about 5lb from my initial target of 9st 7lb

@Fooshufflewickjbannanapants evening eating is my downfall. It’s why I use intermittent fasting. I don’t eat anything after 8pm. Well tbh it’s generally after 6pm after my evening meal. I honestly swear that’s been the reason for my weight loss since new year. Tbh I eat chocolate and cake etc during my eating window but nothing in the evening.

Even if you don’t fancy fasting why not set yourself a rule that you won’t eat after 7 or 8pm and see how that goes?

supertedious · 11/01/2022 09:24

Posted to soon.....

I've weighed myself today and managed to put on 2lbs! Is this normal?
I've kept my calories to 1500 a day and been active every day!
Feel a bit gutted Sad but will keep going as I actually feel better for cutting down junk food etc.

Recycledblonde · 11/01/2022 09:31

Morning all, todays meal plan is poached egg on sourdough toast, pea and courgette soup with a slice of wholemeal bread and some live yoghurt with raspberries then another Hello Fresh meal, chicken laksa tonight. I find since the children left home and it's down to the two of us, having Hello Fresh helps me plan and eat more healthily but also be a bit more adventurous with spices.

I'm not calorie counting and after reading Spoonfed and The Diet Myth by Tim Spector I don't buy artificially low fat foods. I'm just trying to reduce portion sizes, eat minimally processed food and cut down on wine.

8stone13 · 11/01/2022 09:35

@swampytiggaa You might well be me - I'm also 5lb off my target too (or thereabouts, I'd just like to see 8s 13 something on the scales!)

swampytiggaa · 11/01/2022 09:43

@8stone13 we’d better be buddies then! Reckon the next 5lb will be harder to shift than our first 5lb 👍

@supertedious the gain might be a reaction to being more active? Your body holds onto water to repair muscles. Drink plenty and do some stretching etc today and it will disappear in a day or two.

I weigh every day but tend to ignore the fluctuations. I use an app called happy scale which logs the weight and gives a general trend ignoring odd fluctuations. You set a goal then it breaks it down into tiny milestones so you feel you are always achieving something 😊 I’ll attach my 7 day graph in a minute from when I restarted it 👍

swampytiggaa · 11/01/2022 09:45

@supertedious this is mine. I started fresh on NYD but my previous months looked like a mountain range 😂😂

I use the free option don’t think the paid version offers anything that I need tbh.

LOSE IT! January 2022
8stone13 · 11/01/2022 09:46

@swampytiggaa It's already proving harder to shift for me 🤨 Though I think some of that might be because it's a little bit unrealistic. I now look visibly slimmer than I did at the start, in fact I look like I used to do when I was 8s 13lb a few years ago. I'm wondering if this is an age adaptation thing, & 9s 4lb (or thereabouts) at age 46 is the same as 8s 13lb at 37 🤔

The happy scale app sounds interesting, I'll look that up 👍🏻

supertedious · 11/01/2022 09:49

@swampytiggaa thanks for the advice. Yes I do need to up my water intake, I'm really bad at it. I've planned some stretching today instead and will give the cardio a miss. Thanks for Happy Scale app idea.

swampytiggaa · 11/01/2022 09:50

I originally wanted to be 9st but at 52 and perimenapausal weight likes to hang around 😂😂

My work is very active… averaging 16k steps a shift now so that should help with toning up etc. plus the if has stopped me eating my body weight in chocolate every night 😂😂

Right then off for a walk!

swampytiggaa · 11/01/2022 09:52

More water will get you weeing out that water gain in no time!

And remember this is a marathon not a sprint… your body will change shape with running 😊

8stone13 · 11/01/2022 09:57

I've downloaded Happy Scale & I like the look of it 🙂

There seems to be no way to input previous weight loss though, which is a shame as I'd love to be able to see a graph starting 10 days ago 😀
