HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi everyone,

Sounds like things are going well apart from the rain ruining everyone’s plans Sad

So I’m 8 days into the year and I’m so proud that I haven’t been snacking or picking at crisps, biscuits, chocolates etc. Nor have I been to the Fish n’ Chip shop or ordered a pizza like we usually do every Friday.

I’m sticking to my 3 meals a day and that’s it.
I’ve also stopped drinking hot chocolate, really reduced my cups of tea and spend the day drinking lots of water instead.

And it may be psychological but I’ve noticed over the last 2 days that I’m not really feeling hungry as much anymore whereas normally I would always be whining about feeling hungry and having a little root through the cupboards for snacks.

Maybe my frequent snacking was just habitual as opposed to actually thinking I needed to eat.

I’m going to weigh myself a week on Tuesday, so that will be two weeks after I’ve made my dietary changes so it will be interesting to see if I’ve lost anything.

8stone13 · 08/01/2022 17:38

I'm in Burger King 😀 This is the second time in a fortnight - I haven't been in here this much in a decade 😆 I promised my kids & girlfriend one after they helped me with a load of tidying & sorting. I've ordered for them & not for me 😇 although I could kill for a Chicken Royale 😣

@TheRealHousewife thank you I think joining a group will give me some accountability and it will be nice to meet others trying to achieve the same thing Smile

I love my running club. My group are very steady and definitely in it for mental health reasons as least as much as for the activity.

I will warn you tho that runners can be massive oversharers 😂😂 I probably know more about my running buddies periods and toilet habits than I should and we share stories of chaffing and injuries with gay abandon 😂😂

I love them so much we support each other through all sorts of things and take the piss out of each other regularly 😊

Really hope your group is like mine 💕

PopcornFiend · 08/01/2022 19:39

I’ve had an off-track day today as I took DD10 out for the day which included lunch at Bella Italia - around 1200cals just on lunch so definitely gone over today! But I have to allow the odd special day I reckon. Back on it tomorrow and hoping for a decent result on weigh day as I’ve been sticking (apart from today) to between 800-1100 cals a day.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 08/01/2022 20:35

Evening all,

Well done to everyone on their losses.

@TheRealHousewife you’re so right about just repeating a good week and reminding us that second week losses may not be as much but just to keep going! I agree about the Heck sausages- the ones I like are the good little company skinny sausages.

Food today (WW) after my good weigh in:

Breakfast: thin seeded protein bagel with light spread and Marmite. Coffee with skimmed milk.

Lunch: took my daughter to Wagamama- had the chilli sirloin steak ramen.

Snack: skinny iced latte, 47g bar Tony’s chocolate and hot chocolate with skimmed milk.

Dinner: ham and tomato omelette with cucumber sticks.

All on plan and on track- albeit with a bit too much sugar. Interestingly, although the chocolate was lovely, I’m not sure I’d ‘spend’ so many points on chocolate again in a hurry. Every so often maybe but definitely won’t make it a regular thing!

Raspberry12 · 08/01/2022 20:47

18k step count today. It was drizzly in London but a lot milder today.

Breakfast: buckwheat pancakes with berries, flaxseeds and drizzled with cream

Lunch: stir fried chicken breast, broccoli, tomatoes and spring onions with half a baked sweet potato

Dinner: teriyaki salmon with kale and white basmati rice + miso soup (I found a simple way to make teriyaki sauce at home)

Snacks: 1 square dark chocolate, grapes, greek yoghurt

I feel a bit fed up today with my muffin top situation. After my first child I was back in my old clothes about 2.5 years later with a flat stomach. My second kid will turn 3 in a couple of months and I have a huge muffin top belly 😢 I think it could be additional stresses perhaps - the pandemic (my 10 year old developed an unusual social anxiety during the second lockdown and is currently in therapy), I lost my dad about 6 months before the pandemic too and not seeing my mum for so long was hard. In many ways having a toddler during this time has been amazing as he has kept us all playing and laughing through it all but up until he started nursery it was also tough getting a break to exercise and eat well while home schooling, looking after a toddler and navigating a pandemic 😅

This is a bit of a long post about a saggy belly 😆

Evening All

@swampytiggaa & @supertedious I’d love to join a walking group but I can walk far and I’m slow 😬. It’s a great way of meeting new people too!

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 The Heck ones used to be my gluten free sausage of choice. Waitrose pork chipolatas are lovely and OH had those this morning. Mine were that rank he gave me one of his 😊. Heck ones are in the dogs 😬 TY for the recommendation! I’ll look out for those. Your menu sounds delicious!

@PopcornFiend Absolutely loosen the reins for special/family occasions. Life’s for living! On balance over 7 days you’re still winning 😊

@8stone13 well done on swerving the burgers 🍔 👍

@DontWantTheRivalry You’re training your stomach to go without snacks and it gets fed 3 times a day 👍.I think It’s getting used to the routine. Plus you’re learning to identify real hunger cues from habitual/boredom snacking. Well done!

I’m so bored tonight I’ve been mithering OH to go for a SECOND walk, but he refused. I didn’t fancy going on my own as it’s dark! Got a jigsaw out, did an edge, got bored, so it’s back in its box. Early night beckons. Roll on Springtime 🌼.

@Raspberry12 sending a hug. You’ve had a very tough time of it and you’re probably still grieving Flowers. Whatever life changes you are making will be making a massive difference to your metabolic bodily functions and mental health. Over time these will prove even more significant. I’m not minimising your concerns about your tummy. In time it will improve to a degree. If it’s any consolation I have a large waist too. My top half is 12/14 and my bottom is an average 8 (got jeans from a 4-10). Frustrating.

A couple of family celebrations meant eating hasn’t been great but activity levels are up! I am focussed on next week, lovely healthy food in the fridge and swim and run arranged too.
This thread moves fast! Well done on all the posters trying new things and new groups. Sounds really positive.

justjuggling · 08/01/2022 21:24

@TheRealHousewife I am now craving a big brekkie tomorrow morning. Don’t have the right bits here for it but will add to this week’s shop. Are you a keen gardener? I have a small garden but discovered during lockdown 1 how much I love browning fruit & veg and pottering round!

Food hasn’t been so great today. Lots of tea and squash, 2/3 of a crunchie and a cheese & coleslaw sandwich. Plus a banana, tangerine and some water melon. Just wasn’t in the mood to cook something ‘proper’. 🤦‍♀️

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 08/01/2022 21:33

@raspberry12 your meals today sound amazing! Particularly the pancakes.

I'm also in London and the weather has been grim. It's been raining all day. I only managed 6k steps, but I did do a really fun but intense piloxing class this morning. Really enjoyed it and felt upbeat as a result! Smile

campingqueen121 · 08/01/2022 22:25

Hi all, looks like a brilliant thread you have here. You've all been doing amazingly and are really inspirational. I'm hoping I'm not too late to join?

I'm 42, 5'3 and weighed in earlier this week at 137lbs. I have put on about 20 lbs in the last 2 years, 3lbs at least is Christmas weight. WFH and being a few feet from the larda and fridge have been the main problem; I also have a 4 year old and don't get much time to myself, I feel exhausted a lot of the time and haven't had the energy to exercise like I use to. Unlike last year I had a few events over Christmas and nothing in the wardrobe fitted, which was a little depressing, but I'm feeling motivated to get off my butt, start eating healthily and hopefully I'll be back in shape before I know it.

I'll be healthy eating, using MFP, and doing T25 workouts. I will also aim to do the C25k in my lunch breaks, but won't be able to start for a few weeks. Is anyone else doing T25? I've only read to page 11 so far and haven't seen it mentioned.

Ultimately I'd like to lose the whole 20lbs, but I'm planning on toning and increasing muscle mass so I'll start with being 7lb lighter by June and a few inches smaller.

Best of luck. X

129orbust · 09/01/2022 08:40

Sorry to miss my check in yesterday. It was a full day.
0.2lb loss then and still the same today so 133.4lbs.
Obviously I will not be back to 132 lbs tomorrow morning but that's ok.
Just waved DD1 off as she heads back to Uni on the train. A longer journey today due to engineering work and she is well laden as she has exams on Friday and had to drag all her study stuff back so she could prepare. She works so hard but loves her course and is content so I am happy. It was a lovely Christmas.
DD2 had a week of exams which, if A Levels are cancelled, will be used towards the final grades. She is currently deciding between four - but I think in her head two - Unis as to which to firm and which to insure and trying to be strategic in her choices!
I shall re-focus on going onwards and inwards tomorrow and this time next week will be 132 lbs and ready for the weight to start dropping again.

Thank you TheRealHousewife

You’re probably right as I barely get the urge to snack at all. I take a few Greek Lite yogurts to work with me just in case I know I’m not going to get my lunch at a normal time (work in nursing) but even then I just have them to ensure I’ve got something in me to stop me flagging as time passes, rather than actually feeling hungry for it.

Last night he and my DH were lying in bed watching a film and I said, “This is the kind of time where we’d kill for a Terry’s Chocolate Orange!” (we always snack these when we watch films)

And my husband said, “We’ve actually got two downstairs….I bought them shortly after Christmas but then hid them when you said you were going on a detox month.”

He then asked if I wanted a few slices as a treat for having done so well so far but I said no Smile Normally I would never turn down some TCO but despite my fantasies about eating it, when it came to it I didn’t find it difficult to say no at all.

My husband was very surprised but also proud Grin

DontWantTheRivalry · 09/01/2022 09:29

This is a bit of a long post about a saggy belly

Grin

I have a saggy belly too Sad

Both my children were born via c-sections and I’ve got that horrible pouch that hangs down over my scar Sad

A couple of months after my second son was born he was diagnosed with CMPA so I had to remove dairy from my diet and I lost soooo much weight as a result. It was fantastic and even my saggy belly started to shrink as the months passed.

My husband did suggest going dairy free again if I was so adamant about losing weight but it was such a big lifestyle change to make that I don’t think I could face it again.

TheRealHousewife · 09/01/2022 09:35

Good Morning All

@Chimchimcharoo sounds like you’ve planned well for next week! You can do it!

@justjuggling we’ve all had days like that! Yes I do like pottering about in the gardening. Growing things, especially produce is so satisfying!

Welcome to the thread @campingqueen121. I’ve not heard of T25. There are plenty of posters who are really active and they might have. You’ve identified a sensible goal in the short term 👍Good luck!

Loved reading your update @129orbust. You sound like a great mum who loves & cares very much about their DDs ❤️ I like your steely focus for your coming weeks goal! 👍👏

@DontWantTheRivalry how thoughtful of your DH, he certainly supports your endeavours and well done on swerving it when offered! 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made spaghetti bolognaise with gluten free pasta.
Meal 2 - Home made spicy cauliflower soup.
Tea, black coffee, water 💦

Enjoy your Sunday!

Horrible, horrible week, more to come. I have exercised everyday, from an hour to 7 minutes, but haven’t really checked what I eat. Over the next week I will only eat between noon and 8 in the evening. I am not going to weigh myself but I am not going to eat so many carbs. I’ve got to be fit in order to support others but I need to look after my mental fitness as well so knowing how heavy I am will just be counter productive.

swampytiggaa · 09/01/2022 09:51

@campingqueen121 I did T25 before 😊 I’d do it again but I’m finding it hard to plan in exercise at the moment due to work.

Still cracking on with 16:8 accidentally did 22 hours yesterday 😱 and only had a 2 hour eating window. I’m on 16.5 hours currently. I start work at 12:30 so want to eat before I go. Considering beans and cheese on toast then take a sandwich with me 😊 and start my fast again early evening.

Was too tired to go for a run this morning. Did 14k steps at work yesterday 😱 plus lots of lifting etc. it’s a very active job.

Shopping is coming between 11 & 11:30 and I’ve got the kids pizza for tea 😊

weightlossliss · 09/01/2022 10:02

I am getting married in June and so have set myself a target weight (which works out at losing 2lbs a week)

I weighed in at 189lbs on 4/1, and have stepped on the scales this morning to a 4lb loss!

I realise this might be largely water weight but nevertheless feels like a great motivating start!!!!

Good luck all

Gottoloveatakeaway · 09/01/2022 10:05

Going to Miller & Carter for lunch, have looked to try and find best options, now just need to stick to my plan and ignore what everyone else orders. Wish me luck.

ginsparkles · 09/01/2022 10:19

Morning all!

@Raspberry12 I feel you! I have the muffin top and I hate it. Never used to have one until after DD. I lost my dad too and have found it tough. Started going to the gym but know unless I do weights it won't truly go away but I don't really enjoy weight training bit. Must try again. Anyway, a hug and solidarity.

Today will be over calories, out for lunch with my brother at an Italian tapas type place. No idea what it will entail but will be careful and have a salad for dinner tonight.

Have a good day everyone

8stone13 · 09/01/2022 11:58

Morning all 🙂

Day 8 - Sun 9th Jan - 9s 4 & 1/2lb = 1/4lb loss. Total loss 5.5lb

I was racing about like a mad thing yesterday & didn’t drink anywhere near enough, so I suspect I may have some water retention going on…

@campingqueen121 We don’t sound too dissimilar - except I can only think in stones so I want to be my username 😀 I’m 46, 5’ 5.5” & 9s 4 & 1/2lb having lost 5.5lb.

@DontWantTheRivalry We are living the same life! My gf & I often watch a DVD in bed at the weekend & share a chocolate orange, we have 2 left over from Christmas & resisted them last night 😀

(Amused to find my phone corrected “racing about like a mad thing” to “raving about like a bad thing” 😆)

2022success · 09/01/2022 12:17

Hello everyone. I am very happy with my 6 pound weight loss in week 1, although I am sure most of that was the initial water loss.

Had a very busy day yesterday. Went for lunch with a friend and ordered soup, but hadn't factored in that it would come with half a baguette of bread and some delicious salted butter, which I obviously couldn't resist. Smile It was pouring down and I had a second group of visitors in the late afternoon so didn't get time for exercise.

I really should go out for a walk in a bit as it's beautifully sunny today, but I am lacking motivation. I have a really sore throat (negative LFT) and am in quite a lot of pain with it, despite painkillers and chloraseptic spray. I think I might do an indoor workout instead as I really can't afford to be ill this week.

Had ready brek with blueberries for lunch (still on 16:8) and am having swede, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, green beans and gravy for dinner with a bit of bisto. So it's really just a load of veg you would have with a roast, without the meat or roast potatoes. It feels very wholesome on a Sunday evening.

Have a lovely day everyone.
