HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

The first few days are definitely the hardest @Walkingbkwrm. It will get easier soon. In the meantime, is there anything you can do to distract yourself, especially during times when the risk of snacking is at its highest? I think we have a few people on this thread who do knitting and other kinds of crafts to keep their hands busy (and make it impossible to snack!)

@Raspberry12 your menu looks pretty healthy to me. Even your snacks are balanced! In terms of foods that keep you full, fibre is good for that. If I eat pulses and whole grains I rarely get hungry. Not sure what that would look like as a snack though 🤔

justjuggling · 07/01/2022 20:44

Evening all! Does anyone have nice plans for the weekend?

Had a good food day today:

Meal 1 - fruit salad, yoghurt and a handful of granola
Meal 2 - homemade leek & potato soup, 2 slices of granary toast topped with baked tomatoes

And 2 pieces of fudge. Need to knock the afternoon sweet treat on the head but on an up note, today is the first day this week that I’ve eaten bread plus it was healthier than my usual white slathered in butter. I’m such a bread fiend, warm cold, topped with savoury or sweet, any time is the perfect time for bread!

@Youdoyoutoday thank you for the rooibos tip. I’m a typical apple shape so am always happy to try anything that may help reduce my waistline!

Walkingbkwrm · 07/01/2022 20:48

Distraction is a good idea @Crazzzycat, might have another go at trying to learn to crochet. Got a book on that for Christmas last year but never got around to it.
@TheRealHousewife Carbs (rice, pasta and potatoes etc) are my downfall - can’t bring myself to give them up. Tried brown rice and pasta instead of white last year and the family objected strongly :(. Anyone know if reducing carbs a bit helps or if it’s only really good if you get below a certain level? Stuff I’ve read seem to imply it’s a bit all or nothing but I could be misunderstanding.

Recycledblonde · 07/01/2022 20:50

Today I’ve had kefir natural yoghurt with fruit for breakfast, then a mixed bean salad with peppers, spring onions, tomatoes, cucumber and feta cheese dressed with vinaigrette, one hard boiled egg, yoghurt with a handful of raspberries and a square of dark chocolate grated over it and five dried apricots. It’s kept me going through a 12 hour shift without resorting to the vending machine and a mars bar.
I’ve got more or less the same planned for tomorrow as I won’t get home until 11pm and have to leave for work at 9am. Shift work is a killer for losing weight.

Walkingbkwrm · 07/01/2022 20:53

@Recycledblonde well done on not resorting to the vending machine! I’m also impressed you stopped at 5 apricots - they are lovely but somehow I have no stop button (or is that all you packed?).

Youdoyoutoday · 07/01/2022 20:54

@Walkingbkwrm
The way I have tried to control snacking is to drink a glass of water and do a task.
My snack cupboard had post it notes in it saying 'are you hungry?' 'Drink water' 'do a task' and I have a list of tasks on a post it in the same cupboard that I can do instead.
The distraction technique does work most of the time but I will admit that when it doesn't, just have the snack you ARE craving!!
How many times have you munched your way through the fridge and cupboards like The Hungry Caterpillar to avoid the 'chocolate biscuit' but have ended up eating 400 calories rather the 70 calories the chocolate bourbon actually is???? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

8stone13 · 07/01/2022 21:02

@129orbust Thank you 🙂

@TooManyPlatesInMotion Hurrah! I think my first one is due to be delivered around 27th Jan, it'll be the Feb issue 👍🏻

Allotment123 · 07/01/2022 21:37

Today was my son's birthday we had cake, pizza and party rings. Will start again tomorrow. Talking of pukka teas the mint and licorish is great, has a warming after taste

Backofthenet20 · 07/01/2022 23:40

Happy day today. I have lost the weight I put on over Christmas so feel like I am getting back on track. Still a lot of lb’s to lose but have not calorie counted and have just been eating really clean. Virtually no processed food. Things made from scratch. Hopefully this can become a lifestyle rather than a diet

Recycledblonde · 08/01/2022 07:25
@Recycledblonde well done on not resorting to the vending machine! I’m also impressed you stopped at 5 apricots - they are lovely but somehow I have no stop button (or is that all you packed?).
Yes otherwise I'd eat the whole packet! I find they're a good snack for work as they take a bit longer to eat and therefore make you feel like you've eaten more.
I think one of my issues with weight comes from losing my 'off' switch. I was never overweight until I was in my 40s which coincided with us eating a lot more highly processed food like ready meals etc. I believe that the additives mess up the hunger and fullness hormones leading to weight gain.

ginsparkles · 08/01/2022 09:34

Belated happy birthday to your son @Allotment123 ! Hope the pizza and cake were yummy!

Well done @Backofthenet20 !

Working today, so no temptation in my path. Officially a week since first weight and measure and have lost 4lb. Shifting the official weight day to Wednesday now though to make it easier as a Saturday weigh isn't a great day!

Plan for the day:
Meal one - same old!
Meal two - lasagne. Having to do this using jars, which I'd rather not do but it's the only way DD will eat it, I have bought the reduced fat bolognese sauce though so helps a little.
Snacks - banana and low fat yogurt.

Have forgotten my drinks bottle so will set a reminder on my phone to keep me in the zone! Have a great Saturday everyone! And send some positive vibes for a lots of customers kind of day!

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 08/01/2022 09:35

Sounds like everyone is doing well!

First weigh in today after a week on track and I’ve lost 6lb which I am very happy with!

Have a good Saturday.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 08/01/2022 09:35

@ginsparkles well done on your loss!

ginsparkles · 08/01/2022 10:11

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 thank you. And you! That's a brilliant loss SmileSmile

TheRealHousewife · 08/01/2022 10:17

Good Morning All

Thank you @Raspberry12 I’ll try those.

@justjuggling Plans for the weekend? Im planning on walking x2 and pottering in the garden. It’s damp and murky but not raining. Nothing exciting 😬. What about you?

@Walkingbkwrm any reduction in carbs will help. We need carbs but not of the simple kind. If I have a stir fry or tray bake you can leave spuds, rice and pasta out and not miss them. I know it’s tough, good luck!

@Recycledblonde well done on taking your own food to work. That’s a great way of swerving impulse buys.

Good tips @Youdoyoutoday 👍

@Allotment123 Every day is a fresh opportunity to start over. You’ll soon get into it.

@Backofthenet20 well done on losing your Christmas gain 👍👏🏅

@ginsparkles blummin’ we’ll done on your 4lb loss. Fabulous progress 👍👏🏅

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 6lbs! That’s fantastic progress. 👍👏🏅

So many great results. Now repeat this week 😬 You can do it! The losses might not be as high as this week but you can keep making progress if you remain consistently mindful 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Big Brekkie Brunch - bacon, heck chicken sausage, fresh toms, baked beans, gluten free hash browns, scrambled egg.

Meal 2 - Hummus, guacamole, sliced red, green peppers, carrot sticks, celery stick, sliced apple, olives.

Tea, black coffee, water water water.

What’s everyone got planned for their weekend? Whatever it is do it with gusto 😬 It all helps!

It's pouring down here!! I feel trapped as I really wanted a day out today with the kids but I feel mean dragging them out in the rain.

2022success · 08/01/2022 10:56

Just a quick check in as I have visitors all day today.

Starting Weight 12:12
Week 1: 12:6

Been doing 16:8 and no more than 1000 calories.

8stone13 · 08/01/2022 11:06

Morning all 🙂

Day 6 - Sat 8th Jan - 9s 4 & 3/4lb = 1/2lb loss

I had the oddest day yesterday - didn't feel hungry at all 🤨 I had my usual lemon curd on toast & hot chocolate for breakfast & then didn't get hungry at any point. I had a couple of crackers with mature cheddar & a handful of nuts in the evening, as I hadn't eaten all day. Wasn't hungry this morning either!

Throwing it down here too ☔️

Have a good Saturday everyone 🙂

Walkingbkwrm · 08/01/2022 12:38

Morning all.
Well done @hopingforabrighterfuture2021 - even if some of it is water retention that’s still brill.
Wet and uninspiring here too. No real plans this weekend apart from ferrying the kids places - hopefully can fit in a quick walk or two though.
Good luck to everyone staying on track over the weekend.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 08/01/2022 13:14

@TheRealHousewife here is pic and recipe of the chilli. We all enjoyed it - even the kids. I just left the tortillas off mine and had natural yog instead of sour cream.

524 cals per serving.

Used the left overs as topping for jacket potatoes for the kids the following day.

Hi everyone

Has to miss my run as not feeling well but I did walk the dog and did some gardening once home. Lunch was Mediterranean vegetables with pasta and some grated cheese. Home made mince pie. Dinner will be seeded baguette with smoked salmon and cream cheese. I'm still feeling a bit off but don't know why unless it is the new meds.

@Graphista. Where are you??

TheRealHousewife · 08/01/2022 15:08

Good Afternoon All

Thank you @TooManyPlatesInMotion, I’ll give that recipe a go 😋

@SunshineCake1 hope you soon feel better! I inboxed @Grahista around New Year but not heard back. Hope you’re ok Graph!

@8stone13 no appetite … chance would be a fine thing 😬

@2022success Awesome progress! Well done 👍👏🏅

Got drenched on walk (was a slight drizzle at start, then heavens opened), can’t get warm now. Might have a soak in a nice hot bath.

We enjoyed our Big Brekkie. However I won’t be buying Heck chicken sausages again. They were awful, no taste and went hard after grilling. They have changed the recipe as they used to be lovely. Not had for a long time though. Doggies had a nice 2nd breakfast 😬

Hello! Been working loads trying to get to grips with my new role. Reckon I’ve jinxed the department everything has gone wrong since I was promoted 😂😂

Absolutely shattered but been fasting and drinking more water and trying to avoid junk food. Weight is going down which is good 😊
