HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Has been a hectic week but have managed to control eating. Have been eating same foods so haven't posted them.
Haven't been exercising but have been drinking water, I ended up drinking a litre yesterday which is unheard of for me.
I've had to talk to myself a few times that I don't need a treat when I've been rushing around and a bit stressy.
Hope everyone is doing well, have been reading over the last few days.

Hi all,

@Pennina I do WW online and absolutely love it. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Good day so far today, day off work as I do 4 days a week so nice to have some down time, went on a walk after school drop off to get some steps in before coming home to do laundry and chill a bit!

First weigh in after restarting tomorrow!

PopcornFiend · 07/01/2022 12:23

@TheRealHousewife thanks, I will try increasing my water intake, for sure.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 07/01/2022 13:59

Smarshian · 07/01/2022 14:19

Afternoon all!
Can’t keep up with this thread! My week is going ok so far.
Just been for a 7.5km run which is the furthest I’ve done in a while.
Breakfast was a go ahead bar as I was rushing and a banana mid morning.
Lunch was soup and ryvita which I didn’t enjoy!
Dinner will be a Gousto meal of chicken skewers rice and salsa which looks amazing and will hopefully make up for the dreary meals so far!

Youdoyoutoday · 07/01/2022 14:38

Food inspiration
Easypeasyfoodie.com

The lady who runs it has done all the hard work for you, each dish has all the nutritional and calorie breakdown at the bottom, there's meal plans to sign up to, loads of recipes to suit all tastes and she even recommends which wine would go well with a dish! I won't lie, I do think she does waffle on a bit (like most bloggers) but there is a handy jump to recipe button on all of them.
Lots of meals for easy mid week dinners, there are even 600 calorie and 500 calorie dinners too!

I've picked the chicken and mushroom pie with lots of veg for Sunday lunch, the peri peri chicken tray bake and the quorn shepherds pie for dinners next week. 😋

Good Afternoon All

@MrsK23 yes I agree more a marathon than a sprint 😬

Sounds like you’ve done your best @ShoppingBasket during a very busy week. That’s all you can do 😊. Well done on being mindful and doing what you can!

Enjoy your day off @hopingforabrighterfuture2021 and thank you for bumping. Tasty menu so far!

You’re welcome @PopcornFiend 👍

@Smarshian well done on your 7.5k run 👏👍

Thank you for sharing links @Youdoyoutoday 👍. I’m going to peruse with my cuppa! 😬

Did anyone see @Ojiji post yesterday? Probably promoting something.

Enjoyed my lunch but boy I’m shattered. I think all the walking I’m doing (nothing for the average person). Planning on an early night 😬. I remember when Fridays meant PARTY TIME 🥳

Enjoy the rest of you day!

Cross posted @Youdoyoutoday … I’ll go and look at the Rooibos tea. Never tried it. But my worst area (apart from my over generous Twins) is fat around the middle. My weight has dropped but my waist isn’t getting any smaller now. Bum/legs/jeans size 8 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 14:52

Which brand have you gone for @Youdoyoutoday please?

OP posts:
Youdoyoutoday · 07/01/2022 14:58

@TheRealHousewife
I went for tick tock, it doesn't taste of much but will be nice to have as a warming drink as its bloody freezing at the moment!

Crazzzycat · 07/01/2022 15:07

Last year I introduced a no caffeine after 10 am rule. It left a gaping hole in my life, as I absolutely LOVE tea. But then I discovered Pukka herbal teas. Different, but delicious!

There’s a huge range (and I think I’ve tried most of them!). My personal favourites are:

  • Vanilla chai - a lightly spiced herbal tea
  • Three gingers - a more fiery infusion, great for cold winter days
  • Joy - my most favourite of them all. The flavour is difficult to describe, but it really is as uplifting as the blurb on the package says it is.

The only ones I’ve found so far that I don’t like are the ones with lots of cinnamon in them (3 cinnamon and one called revive). It’s odd because I am famous in my family for adding cinnamon to everything, so clearly am not averse to it. But in a herbal tea? Not for me🤮

Crazzzycat · 07/01/2022 15:10

Just realised you were discussing rooibos in the context of weightloss @Youdoyoutoday and @TheRealHousewife! Ignore my advert for Pukka Teas above. I thought you were looking for ideas for non-caffeinated drinks (although seriously though, they are good 😂)

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 15:13

Thank you ladies! I have decaf coffee but didn’t like decaf tea. I’m interested in the Rooibos if it aids in reducing waist size. The Three Gingers Pukka tea sounds interesting. I love the taste of ginger. I’ll look for them when I do my next online shop. Thanks again 😊

Helloooo! First day partly in charge today and it all went a bit wonky donkey and I did an hour over so I’m knackered and have just eaten crisps and chocolate biscuits for lunch 😂😂 I’ve also declined a run with child number 4 because I ache all over, I’m shattered after working a late yesterday and I’ve got wet repeatedly so I’m wanting to wrap up and keep warm. Evening meal will be veggie cottage pie.

Work again in the morning fingers crossed it goes more smoothly than today 😊

Rshard · 07/01/2022 15:55

Busy day at work so only just caught up with the thread. Why are short working weeks somehow so long…?

So it’s the weekend, bit of a danger zone for me. What are folk planning to tackle any temptations/blips etc?

NoodleSlurper · 07/01/2022 16:03

@SunshineCake1 thanks, I can't wait for a normal week!

@Rshard planning, planning and more planning, with plan B as well. Also plan in some enjoyable parts so it's not all deprivation.

Youdoyoutoday · 07/01/2022 16:23

To be honest, I've broken my own rule of using up what we have already before buying something else! I have boxes matcha tea, green tea, pukka mixed box! I shouldn't have bought the rooibos before using up the others but if it helps with belly fat, it's staying on the shopping list!!

I don't have coffee after 11.30am even my regular tea is decaf but herbal teas would be a great way to increase my water intake as its way too cold for tap water. I have a filter jug on the side but I'm finding that too cold to drink at the moment too!!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 07/01/2022 19:19

@8stone13 I have taken the plunge and sorted out my discounted Jan subscription to BBC Good Food mag. Also made a delicious chilli recipe from this month's mag, packed with extra veg and some lentils. Everyone enjoyed it!

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 19:53

@Youdoyoutoday I think we all have boxes (mainly unused in my case) lurking at the back of cupboard 😬 I’ve bought them because the packaging looks appetising … but mostly I’m left underwhelmed on tasting.

@Rshard to keep busy is a good one. I find after a walk my appetite is dulled for a time too. Plan nutritious delicious meals so you do have something tasty and satisfying to look forward to. In fact I think I will do a Big Brekkie Brunch tomorrow 👍 So filling that we will only need a small meal later on.

@swampytiggaa hope your day goes better tomorrow! Enjoy your cottage pie 😋

Meeeeeena is doing my nut in! 👿👿👿 Poor Vinney & Manpreet!

Wow, how many pages is this thread on already - I’m really sorry but I can’t keep track of everybody!
Here started late (yesterday) due to staying with relatives and not being in control of what food was on offer. Got a bad shock when I got home & got on the scales to discover I somehow gained 3kg over the holidays. Also finding it hard going already to resist snacking but so far hanging in there - keep telling myself it will get easier (tell me I’m right, please!). On the plus side, now back doing the school run which means walking 4 miles a day which has to help somewhat (though tbf it didn’t last year…). Trying to increase my child free pace to do it as quick as possible (current pace a rather depressing 25 min per mile).
It’s been pouring with rain and chilly here too - very depressing going out in it. High five to anyone else who has managed to brave the weather for exercise.
I will have to make notes on the tea recommendations - right now I’m working through some I found at the back of the cupboard. They are ok, but a bit uninspiring tbh.

Raspberry12 · 07/01/2022 20:08

Love rooibos tea and tulsi tea (pukka do a great one) - both seem to be naturally sweet.

My step count is down a bit today (12k) as I had too much to fit in a decent post work walk.

Meals today were;
Breakfast: 2 buckwheat crepes with cream

Lunch: leftover roast veg and minced beef cooked into a Shakshouka with one egg

Dinner: 1 roast sweet potato with broccoli, tomato and sweetcorn salad and homemade hummus

Snacks: 1 date, walnuts, yoghurt & berry & flaxseed smoothie, 1 square dark chocolate, 1 digestive biscuit, 2 black filter coffees, 1 tea

I was a bit snack-tastic today… about to curl up on the sofa with movie and will probably have at least 1 more snack!

Writing down what I’m eating is making me think that maybe I’m eating too much! But I get very cranky if I’m hungry… any tips on foods to eat which reduce appetite? I found greek yoghurt and boiled eggs to be quite filling so far.

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 20:16

@Walkingbkwrm the urge to snack will definitely reduce if you eliminate added sugars, alcohol, simple carbs like white bread, white rice & processed foods. Eating whole foods, good proteins, plenty of fresh veg, complex carbs like quinoa and brown rice, healthy fats will all aid to keep blood sugars balanced and curb cravings!

Are the buckwheat pancakes gluten free @Raspberry12? Sound tasty 😋

OP posts:
Raspberry12 · 07/01/2022 20:24

@TheRealHousewife yes they are gluten free. Here’s the recipe www.dovesfarm.co.uk/recipes/galettes-de-sarrasin They keep me feeling full for ages and quite versatile - nice with fruit or savoury fillings.
