HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Welcome to the thread @Recycledblonde.

  1. Firstly I’d break my goal down into smaller more achievable goals.
  2. Then you need to identify your needs per day to maintain, then knock 500 cals off. That deficit should average about 1lb a week loss.
  3. Next which lifestyle changes your prepared to make. Such as reduce sugar/alcohol (empty calories).
  4. Add in a bit of exercise, such as walking etc.
  5. Read our threads as they contain loads of tips and inspiration.
Let us know how you get on. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your son being bullied @8stone13. That must be difficult for you both. Although reading your post you have it in hand.

@marmilade92 well done on making the best of what sounds a tough day.

@peppermintteas awesome loss so far. 👍👏 Exercise will certainly turbo charge further loss.

@PopcornFiend well done on your 3rd night alcohol free 👍👏 that will certainly make a difference to your health, well being and weight loss!

@Allotment123 I think it’s important to get cravings under control by not have simple carbs, sugars & alcohol. You’ll have a tough couple of days after which when they are out of your system you’ll feel great!

@Raspberry12 your meal looks tasty 😋

@justjuggling well done on closing your kitchen. It definitely helps to curb night time mindless snacking. As does getting showered and teeth brushed 😬

@melissasummerfield tasty menu you got there!

@Chattycatty well done on getting your walk in even if it was raining. Keep going lovie, remember why you started this lifestyle change, how you want to feel, how you want to look. Day by day, meal by meal you can transform.

@Rshard Thank you. They’ve agree the refund but still to receive it. I’ll be watching and waiting.

I might give the Earl Grey a whirl @FireworkParrot 👍

Anyone know what @Ojiji posted?

Posted a pic of my chicken and veg tray bake. Drizzle homemade honey & mustard sauce on it. About a tablespoon, not much at all.

Chat tomorrow and well done ladies, you’re doing great 👍. This time next week at least another 1lb could be gone!

@Lupinspotato I think you are doing the right thing upping! It needs to be sustainable as well as nutritious and healthy. You’re more like to stick to it with a higher allowance and avoid rebound eating.

@8stone13 I don’t blame you, get some extra 💤 … quality sleep is excellent 👍

@8stone13, that’s awful, your poor son (and you).

Weight loss has been low priority this week as we’ve had yet another family crisis. Seems we have a crisis or some other kind of time-consuming schedule upset (like two separate working days in a&e) weekly. I’ve been mostly mindful of not going too far off track but the carbs are hard to avoid right now, and I even gave in to the temptation of a Coke yesterday. Things are starting to settle down so I will get back on plan ASAP.

MrsK23 · 06/01/2022 22:35

Can I join please? Our wedding day is next summer and dress shopping starts in April. Would love to have a stone or two off before I start to go looking. About 4 stone to go before wedding in total! Need all the help and support I can get💗

SunshineCake1 · 07/01/2022 07:14

I hope your crisis passes quickly @NoodleSlurper.

Welcome @MrsK23 and congratulations on your wedding.

Pennina · 07/01/2022 08:34

Can I also join please? I've put on a (another) stone "without noticing", well being in denial. Im 15 st 7lb. Takeaways and too many treats over Xmas. Im in my late 50s. I need to lose 5 stone ideally but 3 stone would at least have me in a better place. Im feeling devastated this morning.

Motivation, other than the obvious (!):
we've a special holiday planned for 1/2 term in Feb. Can I get a stone off by then?? And I'm now too heavy for my now elderly horse. I have to face that. If I get 3 stone off that would be OK for him still.

I'm not sure what to do! How to start? I work long hours so only time for a daily brisk walk. I'm planning on calorie counting and cutting out the high fat stuff. Has anyone used Orlistat?! Is WW online any good?!

Hope to be able to give some support in return to anyone else.

Oh dear, I'm so worried about this

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 08:34

Good Morning All

Welcome to the thread @MrsK23. Congratulations on your up coming wedding! Have you decided what lifestyle changes you’re going to make so as to achieve your goals?

Just getting myself together to get my walk done! Not as cold today, so that’s a bonus. Might add in a few hand weights today. Weights are regularly on my mental list but I run out of steam before the end of the day. Arms could really benefit from a bit of toning up!

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy Red Thai Cauliflower Soup
Meal 2 - Chicken, red green & yellow pepper, carrot, kale, spring onion, garlic, ginger, chilli, butter bean stir-fry.
Tea, black coffee, water water water 💧 Might have a chopped fruit salad & Greek yoghurt (depends how hungry I am).

Welcome to the thread @Pennina. To lose a stone in 5 - 6 weeks you need to be looking at a loss of 2-3lbs each week. Doable with consistent diligence.

Calorie counting, reducing added sugar, alcohol, processed foods will all help. Base meals around protein, good fats and complex carbs. You can do this! Don’t know about orlistat or WW as I haven’t used them. Good luck!

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 08:40

Also try not to worry @Pennina. Stress is know to hamper weight loss. The best way of eating (I don’t like to use the word diet) is one that is sustainable, enjoyable and works for you 😊.

OP posts:
TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 08:41

Can you post a typical days eating and I’ll have a look at how it can be adapted @Pennina?

OP posts:
Samicoo · 07/01/2022 08:47

Me please - 4 stone and tried every single diet under the sun. Just need to get my head into a better space

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 08:52

Welcome to the thread @Samicoo. Diets don’t work. Once you stop the ‘diet’, the weight piles back on and then some. Long term healthy eating (with a deficit initially) will work. Read up thread (and previous threads) to gain ideas & inspiration. The effort is worth it. You can do this.

PopcornFiend · 07/01/2022 09:05

Morning all.

Can anyone tell me if body aches are normal during dieting? I have massively reduced my calorie intake over the last 3 days and was feeling great until last night when I woke about 5am with the most intense body aches - mainly back but also legs, shoulders. I struggled to get back to sleep and even now the aches are really painful!

No idea if this is related to the diet? It’s certainly not exercise (I haven’t done any!) Would love to hear if anyone’s experienced similar and if it’s likely to last long?

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 07/01/2022 09:11

Morning all!

A positive few days here, overall. I have cut out booze entirely during the week and have made a big effort re portion sizes. I've realised that while we eat well generally, in the evenings I am eating nearly double a standard portion size. Shock

Other things that are helping - I have treated myself to BBC Good Food mag for some recipe inspiration and think I will do similar with a new cookery book.

I have been exercising, but in my case the risk is that I really go for it with the exercise then feel I can "reward" myself far too much! So I am aiming for moderate exercise only for now.

But more nervous about the weekend... Too many treats around etc!

8stone13 · 07/01/2022 09:15

@TheRealHousewife @NoodleSlurper Thank you 🙂

Day 6 - Fri 7th Jan - 9s 5 & 1/4lb = 1/4lb loss

Weight loss is slowing now as predicted. I don't think I ate much more yesterday but it always drops off me at the start then slows. It's still a loss which is the main thing.

I look & feel slimmer already. I'm starting to think that my target weight of 8s 13lb might be inappropriate. I've lost just under 5lb now, having looked in the mirror I'm not sure I can see where another 5lb would come from!

I'm still mulling whether this is an age shift or whether I've just got used to being bigger so am finding the 9s 5lb me noticeably thin 🤔 It's quite a strange thing to get my head around, similar to when I lost my last lot of baby weight & aimed to get to 8s & got to 9s & realised that I was 39 not 25 & that was more than enough 🧐

8stone13 · 07/01/2022 09:17

@TooManyPlatesInMotion I might re-subscribe to Good Food too. I've had some great recipes from there over the years. They usually do a very decent offer in January - I think I got 6 issues for a fiver once 🙂

8stone13 · 07/01/2022 09:29

I just looked online & Good Food have 5 issues for a fiver if you set up a Direct Debit so I've gone for it. I did the same this time last year. Have put a reminder in my organiser to cancel the Direct Debit in time before it goes up to full price! Hoping for some good meal inspiration 🙂

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 07/01/2022 09:35

@8stone13 absolutely. They have some lovely recipes this month. It's easy to become a creature of routine with food and family meals, and I find it really helps my motivation to mix things up a bit and get inspired again.

8stone13 · 07/01/2022 09:39

@TooManyPlatesInMotion You took the words out of my mouth! It's quite easy to make their recipes a bit lower in fat or adapt them to your family's taste too. It's just about breaking out of the routine & getting some fresh inspiration in the first place I find 🙂

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 07/01/2022 10:16

@8stone13 this is exactly it! Getting interested in and inspired by new recipes is really helpful for me too. A greater interest in food and the variety we are eating helps me be more conscious, instead of just repeating the same old options week in and week out.

ginsparkles · 07/01/2022 10:17

Welcome @MrsK23 and @Pennina

I actually used to work for the company who made orlistat so am happy to answer any questions about it.

So after a day that didn't quite go to plan yesterday I'm back in the zone and still showing a 4lb loss since the beginning of the week.

Plan for today:
Meal one - uninspiringly salad with pasta and a yoghurt
Meal two - gammon with new potatoes and peas.
Snacks - banana and we'll see what else I need during the day.

Currently showing about 900 calories based on this so there scope for extra.

129orbust · 07/01/2022 10:26

Sorry to hear that @8stone13 Some teens are so nasty. You can take some comfort from the strength of your young man.
Well I lost a whole 0.2lb since yesterday - That will teach me to eat Pasta Evangelists spicy sausage fettuccine for my dinner! It was delicious and I do not regret one bite.
Onwards and inwards.

TheRealHousewife · 07/01/2022 10:28

@PopcornFiend are you having enough fluids/salts etc? Or have you caught a virus?

I second BBC Good Food is a great magazine 👍

MrsK23 · 07/01/2022 10:34

Thank you for the welcome everyone! I’m going with the “it’s a marathon not a sprint” mentality this year as I’ve got 18 months to get the 4 stone off.

Plan is to up my daily activity: hit 10k steps daily which is very manageable for me. I’ve also started a weekly yoga class and will build up for more intense exercise as i feel myself getting fitter

In terms of my diet: counting calories aiming for 1800 a day, increasing whole foods and nutrient dense- low cal foods like fruit and veg. But still allowing myself the odd wee treat to keep it sustainable. 2L of water also daily.

Lovely to have a group of like minded individuals for support and motivation. Starting weight is 16 stone 5 and I’m 6ft.

SunshineCake1 · 07/01/2022 11:10

Welcome @Pennina. Try not to be upset. The time and food has gone. You've made a good start by realising you need to change things and you have lots of lovely incentives.

It's still a loss @129orbust and a bigger win as you don't regret it. I wish we could all eat in such a way that we regret none of it and don't have so much angst. It's just fuel for our working bodies. It's just that some of us struggle to learn how much we need to keep going.

I missed my run today as I'm still not feeling right after my surgery and feel achy, sore and very tired. I walked the dog with dh so I have added to my 2022 challenge but I'm not going to do much more now. Will decide later about walking her again.

It is working for me having my main meal at lunch and I am having a lot of vegetables with it.

Have a good day everyone.
