HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi all. I'm not doing so well ds is isolating which means as a single mum I am too I have managed a dog walk in the rain today. Was doing so well before Christmas but can't get my head back in the game.

SunshineCake1 · 06/01/2022 16:11

Welcome @Recycledblonde. we are all doing different things so read through and see what will work for you and good luck.

SunshineCake1 · 06/01/2022 16:12

Well done for getting out @Chattycatty. Just keep trying. Everything counts and will help.

FireworkParrot · 06/01/2022 16:12

@TheRealHousewife that Nescafé Azera decaf coffee is exactly the one I have during the time I'm fasting and I've found it ok to have black. I'd also recommend Twinings Earl Grey decaf teabags as another zero calorie hot drink that is still nice even without milk. If I'm feeling fancy I have a slice of lemon in my decaf earl grey and pretend I'm all posh Wink.

Dinner yesterday was nice, vegetable stir fry with wild rice and some cashew nuts for protein. DH enjoyed it too.

Todays menu:

Meal 1: fritatta made with lots of onions and peppers (leftover from the other day.)

Meal 2: homemade broccoli and cabbage soup with some wholemeal bread.

Snacks: I had two ferrero rocher leftover from Christmas.

Rshard · 06/01/2022 16:41

Late posting today, enjoyed reading what everyone’s eating today.

Like a couple of others upthread, awful weather here so I’ve not been for a walk but have excelled on the self care challenge by having my nails done.

Glad you sorted that refund therealhousewife, very poor.

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 17:19

My 14 year old Autistic DS was assaulted at school today, he's ok, just shaken. My immediate reaction after I got him settled was to reach for the comfort of chocolate - which I think in these circumstances is actually permissible! I restrained though & am now cooking the kids dinner.

I had a jacket potato with cottage cheese earlier. It was delicious & I didn't miss the butter/olive oil spread at all. I feel like my palate is more refined as I've detoxed & I'm really enjoying the flavours of everything I eat, even relatively plain things.

SunshineCake1 · 06/01/2022 17:37

How awful @8stone13. I hope your son is okay. Two of mine have been bullied. It is disgusting. The bully then had his arm broken at his next school and is mum went mad. Seems she's happy for her kid to dish it out but furious when he gets it back.

melissasummerfield · 06/01/2022 17:40

Hey everyone!

Day 6 today and I havent done my excercise yet, so will have to go out in the cold and dark when my DH gets home, lesson learned to just get on and do it on my lunch break as it seems so much harder as the day goes on!

Todays meals :

Breakfast - baked oats with greek yog and blackberries

Lunch - tomato and chilli soup and oaty bread

Dinner - lean venison burger with roasted red peppers and homemade wedges

The weekend is approaching and I’m nervous as this is where healthy eating goes to pot! I am going to keep busy and make sure I stay on track Halo

melissasummerfield · 06/01/2022 17:42

@8stone13 so sorry to hear that, its so diffucult sending them out into the world isn’t it? I hope the school sort it out for you Flowers

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 17:47

Thanks @SunshineCake1 @melissasummerfield

He's ok thankfully, shocked but not hurt. It is awful sending them out into the world, especially when I know that his SN makes him vulnerable. He's a real tough cookie though - his Pastoral Support Officer (who is on the case, I have no concerns there) said he doesn't have to go in tomorrow but he's determined to go straight back. He considers it his duty to be in school smartly dressed 😀 He's quite a character. He's indefatigable & makes me very proud 😊

Rshard · 06/01/2022 18:36

I’m glad your son is ok 8stone13, his resolve to go straight back to school tomorrow is very impressive. What a legend.

justjuggling · 06/01/2022 18:42

Evening all! Sorry to hear about your son @8stone13. Hope you’re both ok.

Welcome @Recycledblonde!

Weather here has been awful as well so no walk but hoping to squeeze one in tomorrow morning.

Forgot to write food down - yesterday I had a fruit salad with yoghurt and steak, homemade wedges, baked tomatoes and corn on the cob. Today I’ve had fruit, 6 celebration chocolates and I made a chilli for dinner which I had with brown rice, salad and cottage cheese.

Kitchen is now closed and I’m well within eating ‘window’ so am chuffed with that.

Hope everyone else is getting on ok!

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 19:04

Thanks @justjuggling 🙂

Thanks @Rshard 🙂 He drives me mad at times but he also makes me very proud. It's his 'get on with it' attitude that gives me confidence that ultimately he'll do fine, whatever life throws at him🤞🏻

Raspberry12 · 06/01/2022 20:04

Clocking in at a 19K step count today. Had a 20 min walk before work and 2 hour walk after dinner - it was date night and my husband and I usually go for a walk and talk.

I am ravenous today! I’ve had to eat more to not feel hungry but it’s day 1 of my period and that makes me extra hungry for some reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

Breakfast: smoothie made with yoghurt, berries, banana, oats and linseeds.

Lunch: leftover braised chicken with brown basmati rice and homemade hummus

Dinner: roasted cauliflower, peppers, red onions and sweet potatoes with minced beef and kale.

Snacks: macchiato, black filter coffee, half an almond and coconut cake, 2 squares dark chocolate, 1 date, walnuts and pistachios.

I told you I was hungry!!! 😆

I managed to drink lots of water again today 🎉

@justjuggling I also got very spotty when I changed my diet back in September to low carb, high protein, more good fats and more veggies. I had also just stopped breastfeeding so I can’t be sure if it was my body adjusting to that. It did settle after a couple of months. I was quite hungry when I started so I was eating a lot of nuts which I think cause more spots so I tried to increase my protein intake and reduce nuts at some point.

@8stone13 hope your son is ok. The last couple of years I’ve been comfort eating too cause of family stresses. While the stresses haven’t completely gone away I'm trying to look after myself and part of that is having an occasional emergency chocolate break :)

I have a pic of my dinner today!

Let’s keep going 🙌

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 20:14

@Raspberry12 Thank you 🙂 Finding myself reaching for chocolate was another one of those interesting revelatory moments, as I didn't realise I'd been doing that to cope with stress 🤔

Your meal looks delicious!

Allotment123 · 06/01/2022 20:16

When does this get easier, the novelty has worn off. I find it really hard not to eat something sweet after dinner or lunch. So far I ate one small biscuit and a small piece of Christmas cake, though I've really cut the carbs so hoping that's in my favour, bagel for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and tacos for tea

PopcornFiend · 06/01/2022 20:18

Evening all!

Yesterday: 1072 cals
Breakfast - instant coffee, 1 sugar, dash of milk
Lunch - slim fast choc shake
Dinner - 3 scrambled eggs, 1 avocado, 3 rashers bacon
Snack - 25g twiglets

Today: 800 cals
Breakfast - coffee again
Lunch - slim fast strawberry shake
Dinner - Heinz lentil & bacon soup
Snacks - 1 banana, 25g twiglets

This is my third eve of no alcohol. Bloody pleased I have managed to do it!

I’m taking my DD10 to the theatre on Sat to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and am going to take her to a pizza/pasta place for lunch so my calorie count will be sky high but I have to allow myself the odd day I guess. Looking forward to it I have to say!! Also going to have a g&t tomorrow eve because it’s Friday 😬

peppermintteas · 06/01/2022 20:21

I have lost 3 stone since around 2 stone to go. I regained a little over Christmas, but have managed to get it back under control. I seem to have very good days and then a couple of not so good days. Im stepping up exercise as I've purely lost this through diet alone. I got an exercise bike for Xmas and I'm using it everyday and increasing the time. Not sure what other exercise I can do from home workouts as I hate exercise classes.

@8stone13 how awful for you son! But good on him for wanting to go straight back in. He sounds amazing.

@TheRealHousewife thanks for that post it was what I needed to read.

Today as I suspected didn't go great, but it wasn't as bad as it has been previously. Was about 200 cals over. But the deficit of the previous two days has been much higher than that, so I think it won't have too much impact on the scales (at least I hope!!) back to work now for tomorrow and Saturday. Sunday is a busy day out with the family so won't have time to snack so this should be the only bad day of the week!

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 06/01/2022 20:53

@8stone13 so sorry to hear about your son.

Hope everyone is doing ok? Day 6 for me today and all still going well.

Weigh in on Saturday, so one more day until then.

Today’s food (WW)

Breakfast: 1 crumpet with light spread and marmite. Coffee with skimmed milk.

Lunch: whole meal pitta bread, reduced fat hummus, smoked salmon, raw carrots and cherry tomatoes, olives.

After work snack: packet of baked crisps, hot chocolate with skimmed milk and sugar free syrup

Dinner: low fat sausages, homemade mashed potato, broccoli and green beans.

After dinner: homemade stewed apple and peanut butter.

marmilade92 · 06/01/2022 21:03

Sorry to hear about your son being bullied @8stone13. Sounds like he's a tough cookie, good on him!

Today's been another tough day, just no time to get anything done. Still didn't drink enough today but I can get in more fluids before bed. I did get a bit stressed and had 1 celebration from the tub. I savoured it and it was just enough to keep me going. Had to have dinner early as I was hungry and if I didn't, I'd make choices I'd regret (a takeaway was suggested by partner).

Meals: Ready brek(made to 200kcal), slimfast strawberry shake, Tesco spaghetti carbonara with a side salad

Snacks: Yoghurt, carrots and houmous, slimfast treat bar

Partner is off tomorrow so hopefully I'll have more time to myself and clear my head and mentally take a rest.

Lupinspotato · 06/01/2022 21:44

@8stone13 I‘m sorry to hear that happened to your son, it’s just awful. He sounds like a great kid though.

I’ve had to update my daily allowance to 1500. Below 1400 seemed too low and I feel a lot better for it. Hopefully I see good results on Wednesday still.

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 21:54

@ginsparkles @hopingforabrighterfuture2021 @marmilade92 @Lupinspotato

Thanks all for your kind words. He's just been playing with the dog & is off to bed now 🙂

I've craved the joy of eating more today than any day since I started dieting. Have had an apple & a handful of nuts. Think I need to go to sleep before anything else happens 😀
