HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I've had a bit of a walk today, nice to get outside.

Coolhand2 · 06/01/2022 04:43

I weighed in today and I am at 77kg and last week was 80kg, very happy to see the scale go down. I have been sticking to intermittent fasting and home exercising, also avoiding snacks.

SunshineCake1 · 06/01/2022 07:14

Too cross to post properly . Just read my two last lot of blood test results and the bloody nurse missed out the two most important ones even though I told her three times what needed doing. Angry. What a waste of everyone's time as now I need another phone appointment then another set of blood tests. Grrrrrr.

129orbust · 06/01/2022 07:55

Oh @SunshineCake1 how frustrating! Have a vent on here.
I cannot keep up with the thread at the moment and suspect we will need a new January thread by the middle of the month.
Another loss this morning, only 0.8lb from yesterday 133.6lbs so 1.6lbs to get to pre-christmas lowest rate.
Would be great if I could do it by monday morning and then continue downwards.
Onwards and inwards!

TheRealHousewife · 06/01/2022 08:02

Good Morning All

I agree @DownUdderer it’s great to get outside even ifs it Baltic like it is here 😬🥶

@Coolhand2 great result! 👍👏

@SunshineCake1 … no words 😶 I fully understand your frustration.

@129orbust well done, that’s great 👍. When I’m near to goal my loss really slows down or even stops. You’ve got a great metabolism!

Menu
Meal 1 - Guacamole, red & yellow pepper, olives, feta, gluten free crackers. (The one that came in yesterdays shop is riper than the one I used yesterday from last weeks shop so it needs using today 🙄)
Meal 2 - Tray baked chicken fillet, sweet potato, broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
Tea, black coffee, water.

Whatever you do today, do with gusto 🏋️‍♀️

Morning! I’ve got my first late shift of my new role today so I’m working 12:30-21:30. I want to eat a main meal before I start otherwise I won’t eat properly today so I started fasting yesterday at 17:15 with a view to breaking it at about 11am.

Out for a short run soon 😊 might try one of the husbands cookie dough cupcakes before work!

ginsparkles · 06/01/2022 08:17

Good morning!

@SunshineCake1 that's sooo annoying! I remember when I broke my back the X-ray people saying they were doing a c spine, and I said but it hurts lower shouldn't it be a full back panel? And they said have to do what we were told. 3 hours later I was back for a full back panel!

@129orbust well done on another loss! You are on fire !

My plan for today, dog walk this morning, will have a lovely hot chocolate with my friend while we are there which will be a really nice treat. Then home for housework and guinea pigs. Then collect little miss from school and most importantly I MUST NOT SNACK!!

Meals today
Mid morning banana
Lunch salad with tomato and basil pasta
Dinner good ole fashioned baked spud with baked beans and cheese!
Enough left over for fruit and yoghurt if I need it.

Have a great day everyone.

129orbust · 06/01/2022 08:21

Thanks @TheRealHousewife
Actually I am really surprised how little weight went on over Christmas and how easily it is coming off (so far!) as it took me 4 bloody weeks pre-christmas to lose a pound.
I'm only 5'2" so not entirely sure where my final goal will be.... I was 102 lbs when I went to University! Maybe 129 will just be step 2 goal. I'd love to be 125lbs as that puts me into the 8 stone bracket again which would be a mental boost.
I don't think I would be where I am without the support on this thread as we have kept it going for so long - so thank you all 🥰

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 09:05

Morning one & all Smile

Day 5 - Thurs 6th Jan - 9s 5 & 1/2lb = 1/2lb loss

I'm pleasantly surprised at how much slimmer I look & feel already, with only 4.5lbs lost (& a lot of that was water.) I'm wondering if I reach target weight - which is basically my username Grin - I might feel too thin Confused

I can't work out if that's because I've become used to being bigger the last few years, so comparatively when I'm slim it feels too thin, or whether this is an age shift. I was 8 stone in my early twenties, but felt the same size at 8.5 stone in my late twenties. When I lost weight after my second child in my mid-late thirties I wanted to get back to 8-8.5 stone but got to 8s 13lb & realised that was enough. I lost half a stone after that through stress & looked & felt gaunt. It's interesting how it shifts over time. It might be that 9s 5lb is the new 8s 13lb for mid-late forties me!

Wishing everyone a positive day Smile

buzzofthebumblebee · 06/01/2022 09:08

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. I know it's just a blip

I got out on a walk yesterday too @DownUdderer - part of my 20 mins 22 secs routine. If I hadn't it would have been straight from work to home for dinner & chores.

Good luck in your new role Swampy and I hope the extra work & responsibility to reward you 20p/hour isn't too too stressful. Shifts don't sound particularly food-friendly, so hope you get a good routine.

Well done on the loss @Coolhand2 - very motivating! You are doing so well too @129orbust . Sorry about your bloods @SunshineCake1 - SO frustrating, especially with your other tests going on too. That would give me the serious rage.

Have a good day. Busy working day for me. Already been chased for stuff : (

swampytiggaa · 06/01/2022 09:53

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee 💐 tbh most of my shifts will be 5-12:30 or 6-13:30 which fit in fine with my fasting it’s just this one is awkward. I’m plotting what to do with my extra 20p an hour already 😂😂

Did a nice 1.5 mile run with my friend. It’s bloody cold out there!

Time for my shower and to start getting ready for work 👍

GreenJulie · 06/01/2022 09:59

So one week in switching to st/lbs.
Start 16 s 8
Now 16s 6
Went to my normal body tone class on Monday which was full. Really put me off as I had to negotiate space. Maybe in a few weeks it will calm back down. Couldn’t get into the boxing class yesterday so went for a power walk in the park. Food wise I’m trying not to eat late at night and snacking while watching telly. Meals were pretty good despite the kids moaning about sweet potato (instead of normal potato) wedges they were all eaten.

marmilade92 · 06/01/2022 09:59

Well done @129orbust! My weight loss always stalled near my goal. Christmas must have given your metabolism a wee boost. I hope it's done the same for me!

That's a great way of thinking @8stone13. As long as you feel healthy, comfortable and happy with yourself it doesn't matter what the number on the scale says.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 06/01/2022 11:22

I’m doing really well sticking to the exercise, but it’s making me ravenous! This is the issue I have, i really struggle to lose weight when I exercise.

So no loss for me yet, and I still have the christmas lbs to lose first.

Try again today.

SunshineCake1 · 06/01/2022 11:37

Thank you @129orbust and well done on your loss. I don't know what my final goal is either. At 21 I was 9 stone 3 but no way would I think that is realistic now plus I think it is too small.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. I'm also annoyed as not only did it mean I missed a dog walk with my friend I couldn't run either. Though tbh I'm feeling sore after my surgery still so needed a rest day from running.

My son had the same @ginsparkles. He had to have two X-rays because they didn't do what the doctor ordered. Then they had the cheek to be offended when I said it wasn't done properly the first time. Then listen!!

Thanks @buzzofthebumblebee and I hope your day isn't too bad.

I had a phone appointment with the loveliest doctor. He is always so kind and knows his stuff. I now have bloods booked in and new meds. I feel rubbish about them but I need to stop being an idiot Sad.

Crazzzycat · 06/01/2022 11:52

The weather is awful here, so I doubt I’ll make it out for a walk. I might row instead, although my arms are still a bit sore from yesterday’s session. DH and I were discussing this morning just how much of an impact rowing seems to be having on our bodies. We’ve only been rowing for just over a month, but we have muscles popping up all over the place 😂

My meal plan for today:

An experimental Thai green chilli soup packed with vegetables. Pitta bread with a tbsp of peanut butter & sriracha sauce (I like flavour!!)

A pear and a square of dark chocolate

Tofu stir fry with noodles and a small portion of satay sauce

Have a good day everyone!

ginsparkles · 06/01/2022 12:06

@SunshineCake1 it's so irritating isn't it? In my case it was the silly junior doc. But hey ho!

Glad you have spoken to the doctor.

Youdoyoutoday · 06/01/2022 12:08

Hi everyone!!

So many posts to catch up on, I've even trying to spend less time on my phone and I haven't been doing anything other than just being mindful of what I eat, logging food on MFP.

Got back to swimming today and it was glorious!! Had a 50 minute walk today and then 40 minutes swimming and I beat my personal best of 32 laps by achieving 34 today!! Very happy with that!!

Weighed myself this morning and I'm starting the new year at 13.12 which is fine, 2lbs on over Xmas with all the booze I've consumed is something I can live with!! On Sunday I'm going to as DP to take another set of 'before' photos for the next stage of my journey!! Can't say diet as its not a diet!!

Onwards and downwards ❤

supertedious · 06/01/2022 12:48

Hi everyone, weather is awful here so no walk. I'm really aching from yesterday's run but I thought a yoga/stretch session later will help and better than nothing?

I am eating better and meal planning but have had a few blips with choc. But my aim is to be better not perfect....otherwise I will just give up. Calorie counting is really helping and weighing the ingredients out.

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 12:58

Thanks @marmilade92 I genuinely think that's the case. I've had times where I've felt too thin & at others too big all whilst being in the healthy BMI range. So whilst technically I've been fine the whole time it didn't correlate with how I felt. I think being mindful of this will (hopefully) go along with my attempts to be mindful about the hunger & full signals, as well as focusing on enjoying what I am eating.

Akitamum · 06/01/2022 13:07

First day back at work yesterday so started on my new healthy way of eating. Did 16:8 and cutting sugar and all the other rubbish I enjoy eating. I think that combined with first day back gave me a migraine. Was the worst one I had had in a long time, could hardly move my head, felt really sick and had to go to bed early. Still feel a bit off this morning, going to take it easy today, stick to the plan but make sure I am eating and drinking enough. Onwards and upwards! Well, downwards hopefully Grin

TheRealHousewife · 06/01/2022 14:37

Afternoon All

I’m pleased with myself as it’s raining, I’m in pain and was/is very tired … and I made myself go out and walk! I did it! Chuffed 😬

Menu change - swapped out meal 1 for chicken soup and 1 unbuttered gluten free thin. Just what I needed after braving the elements.

@SunshineCake1 I know you really need your exercise to clear your head space but it’s good you’re resting up after what you’ve been through with your health ❤️

Hope the migraine soon shifts @Akitamum, I know how incapacitating it can be.

@supertedious I agree about being better rather than perfect 👍 We are human after all. Every day I just try my best.

@Youdoyoutoday well done on beating ypb! 👍👏 No gain at all over Christmas … 2lbs will soon be gone.

@Crazzzycat Thai green chilli soup sounds tasty 😋

@Nomoreusernames1244 swimming makes me ravenous! It’s such a balancing act. To do enough exercise to make a difference but not too much you end up eating back the cals.

Great start @GreenJulie … 2lbs kicked to the curb 👍

@swampytiggaa Enjoy your shift! Hope it goes smoothly.

In other news my other half bought me quite a lovely but very expensive coat for Christmas. Full length to keep me warm outdoors. It arrived damaged so exchanged; only for the replacement to arrive damaged as well as absolutely filthy. I think they sent out a coat that had already been returned (after being worn in the field) as it had a similar fault to the one I originally sent back. Hasten to add we’ve settled on a full refund instead.

Enjoy your day! What’s left of it 😬

I’ve read a Health & Wellbeing piece in The Times today. I thought I’d share the main points as I felt it underlines a lot of the principles we advocate for on these threads:-

  1. Keep a food diary. Log everything. Can identify any hidden extras.
  1. Reduce Stress. “Mental health is really important, so making sure you’re not overly stressed, or overly tired, as these are triggers for you to fall back into old habits. People can be tempted to comfort eat if they feel stressed or sad. Safe guarding mental health is important in maintaining your weight”.
  1. Exercise More. “Adding more activity into your daily routine - walking or using the stairs - is a sure fire way to aid weight loss. Add in weights /resistance training will help prevent muscle loss”.
  1. Get Good Quality Sleep. Metabolic health such as blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood sugar and thyroid function affected by poor sleep.
  1. Reorganise Your Fridge. A simple change. Rearrange so unhealthy foods are less accessible than the more nutritious items.
  1. Pack Healthy Snacks. Prevents impulse buys when out and about and hungry.
  1. Don’t Cut Out Carbs. Include complex carbs like brown rice, quinoa, whole grain pasta, oats etc. Be sure to have quality protein and good fats too. Such as olive oil, avocado oil and oily fish. Good for skin, hair & nails too.
  1. Avoid ‘Drinking’ Calories. Self explanatory.
  1. Pay Attention at Meal Times - Eat Mindfully. Focus your mind on your food and enjoy every fork full. This also helps to feel when you are full. Also have an eye on portion control. Try swapping for a smaller plate.
  1. Don’t Skip Meals (especially breakfast). Hungry people can make poor food choices. Skipping meals can be false economy as ‘rebound’ eating can occur.

  2. Eat More Vegetables. At least 50% of your plate should be veg (no chips don’t count 😬). Vegetables are really good as they are high in fibre and nutrients and fill you up. Interestingly chilli peppers are thought to have fat burning properties.

  3. Drink More Water. Water is involved in many metabolic bodily processes. Being dehydrated has the potential to slow down your metabolism, which can hamper weight loss. There is also a theory that having a glass of water before a meal can help make you feel fuller sooner, meaning you eat less calories.

Every bit helps 😬

Well done on getting out for a walk @TheRealHousewife. I was so tired and just wanted to curl up and watch tv but I knew SunshineDog would like a walk and I wanted one really so we went out for an hour. Took it easy but glad we went out and added another bit to my 2022 challenge.

Shame about your coat. Hope you find another one.

I'll look at your longer post in a bit.

Recycledblonde · 06/01/2022 16:09

Can I join? I'm late 50s and 14 stone 10, would ideally like to be 10 stone at the most. Not really sure where to start although I've cut down on wine and am trying to move more. Have just started a thread on healthy lunch ideas.
