HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

How's everyone doing ? I'm just checking in, this is always my danger time. Home from work, waiting for DH to come home for dinner. I usually go through the house like a plaque of locusts. Not much healthy to snack on so I have had a go ahead bar.

Currently will be on 1000 calories after dinner so enough for some fruit and yoghurt after tea if I'm still hungry.

What I'm really proud of is I have managed to drink my 2 litres today. I never drink much, it's a really bad habit. So I am trying really hard to drink more.

SunshineCake1 · 04/01/2022 18:18

Well done on ŷour water intake @ginsparkles. It's also good to have a drink when you think you are hungry as sometimes we are actually thirsty.

ginsparkles · 04/01/2022 18:23

Thanks @SunshineCake1 ! Water is probably being a bit too kind. I'm not great with water so it's weak squash but it's better than not drinking. Grin

Drinking when hungry was what I did a lot when fasting, but the old habit of not drinking is hard to break as a routine.

SunshineCake1 · 04/01/2022 18:26

There is an app for reminding yourself to drink water. Maybe that is worth a look.

8stone13 · 04/01/2022 18:32

I've just had pasta with a homemade tomato & Mediterranean vegetable sauce that's been bubbling in the slow cooker all day. My kids are older now but I still blend it out of habit from when they were little! I'm certain it gets more veg into us that way though.

I didn't get hungry at all today after my toast & hot chocolate. My body has adapted I think. In a way it's frustrating when that happens as somehow I don't feel I justify what I'm eating. One of the best ways I've learnt to moderate after losing weight is only eat when I'm hungry. Once I lose the hunger signal (& the full signal) I'm sunk. If I listen to those I generally stay in a good place with my weight without masses of effort (all this is mentally coming back to me after several years of being detached from & not being mindful about my eating it if that makes sense to anyone...)

Hi everyone!

I managed 16k steps today on a very cold wet day in London - took quite a bit of motivation to get out but it was nice once I did. If anyone wants to know how to fit this into a day, it was a 30 min walk before work, 20 min walk at lunch time and 1 hour walk after work.

I forget to drink enough water so that’s my mission tomorrow.

I was happy with my food today as the meals were very yummy but quite nutritious (I hope!);

Breakfast - stewed apple topped with toasted oats, cinnamon, a touch of brown sugar, ground linseeds and a dollop of greek yoghurt.

Lunch: Shakshuka made with 1 egg, spring onion, cherry tomatoes and kale.

Dinner: 1/2 diced chicken breast (diced and stir fried with garlic, turmeric, chilli flakes and cumin with roast veg (1 baby cauliflower, 1/2 red onion and 1 red pepper).

Snacks: blueberry, oat, banana and yoghurt smoothie. 1 date + walnuts, 1 dark chocolate truffle, raspberries.

This sounds like a lot of food but I kept the portions small. Lunch took 15 mins to cook and dinner took 30 mins which was a win!

Would love to hear your meal ideas as mine are always a variation on chicken with various roast veg which can become a bit repetitive.

I also did this yoga video just before lunch which was great m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnd5Slo02us

melissasummerfield · 04/01/2022 19:57

Day 4 of 30 mins of daily exercise complete Smile

Today is day one of calorie counting, I have a lot of weight to lose so a healthy deficit for me is currently 2000 cals Blush

Breakfast - baked oats with cherries and greek yoghurt

Lunch - scrambled eggs, beans and roasted cherry toms

Dinner - Brazilian chicken curry with cauliflower rice

I know cauli rice divides people but i find blitzing it then roasting it really tastes nice!

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a good day. Loving seeing everyone’s food, getting some good inspiration! First day back at work today, so busy, but not being in the house was helpful for not snacking and didn’t have time to think about food!

Good food day today. WW is going really well. The thing I’m most pleased with is how dramatically I’ve reduced my sugar intake. It’s not perfect by ANY means, but compared to pre Jan 1st and also in times where I’ve done WW before, it’s massively reduced. What’s helped is not having it in the house except for a very restricted amount. My kids each have a labelled Tupperware with their Christmas chocolate and anything they buy themselves and no one else (ie me or my husband!) are allowed to touch it.

So, meals/snacks today:

Breakfast: iced skinny coffee and 2 crumpets with low fat spread and marmite

Lunch: hummus, mashed avocado with lemon and salt and pepper, lots of carrot sticks and cherry tomatoes, whole meal pitta bread

Snack after work: 3 babybel lights and two 0% fat/sugar Actimel drinks

Dinner: large chicken and veg stir fry with a few cashew nuts.

After dinner: hot chocolate made with skimmed milk and sugar free syrup. Chopped apple with a spoonful of peanut butter (the one with no sugar or palm oil)

Water (although not enough) and Diet Coke (another thing I’m cutting down on).

Need some support and accountability to spur me on to get healthy in 2022. I am daily pain with a prolapsed disc and siatica. I'm at least 35-40 lbs overweight and probably worst of all I don't have a lot of drive or optimism that I can turn this around but just know that I must and my health & happiness depends on it. Grateful for everyone's support Smile

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2022 20:11

@ginsparkles admirable water intake, even with a touch of squash in. Getting water in is my nemesis.

@Raspberry12 awesome step count 👍👏

@melissasummerfield tasty menu! I also enjoy cauli rice too and I find it doesn’t spike blood sugars like basmati rice can. I add chopped chilli, garlic and ginger to mine, I like a bit of spice 😬

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 another tasty menu! Really healthy too!

I got my walk in and also cleaned and closed the kitchen after my last meal. Just about to get showered and into PJs and I think I’ll have an early night. Night all.

Joining in, if I can. Need to lose 3 stone. MFP and 30mins daily exercise is my plan.

giroux · 04/01/2022 20:33

Joining late too. I don’t dare weigh myself but I imagine I’m around 170lb and need to lose 30. Like others, I’m sick of feeling frumpy and not fitting into my nice clothes. Will try to up my exercise and stick at around 1200 on MFP.

Evening snacking is my downfall…I can do everything ‘right’ in the day but then succumb at night.
Accountability is needed!!!

Ooo would you mind sharing this veg sauce recipe?
justjuggling · 04/01/2022 21:47

Crikey, this thread moves fast! It’s great to see all the chat and the menu ideas.

Thank you for the welcome, and @Rshard I totally understand the challenges of WFH! I don’t really get to take a break during the day (although am going to try harder to do so) and thought it might be helpful to book a couple of evening exercise classes. Currently looking at boxercise and Zumba!

Did my online sainsburys shop today and was pleasantly surprised at how much money I saved by not including posh crisps, fancy desserts etc.

Shopping arrives tomorrow and I have done a rough meal plan for the week. And think I’m going to start keeping a diary of food, exercise, mood etc.

129orbust · 04/01/2022 21:52

Thanks for all the encouragement - I honestly give this thread and the lovely long timers credit for only putting on 3.8lbs and keeping me on schedule over the last year.
I'm back into it today and hopeful of a small loss tomorrow to chip away at the gain and get going again.
We still have lots of Christmas treats but I won't be eating them until Saturday at the earliest.... I'm still deciding whether to do dry Jan.
One day at a time I think! Onwards and inwards old chums and new.

8stone13 · 04/01/2022 22:07

@onwardsandupwards22 Honestly it's a bit of a chuck it all in situation rather than a recipe Grin This time I threw in three chopped peppers - one red, one yellow & one orange - a chopped courgette, a load of mushrooms, onion, tinned tomatoes & tomato purée. I have an Autistic son & he struggles with flavours. He can detect even a teaspoon of brown sugar in a tomato sauce! He does well with eating quite a wide variety but likes it to be predictable. So I tend to keep it simple, but nourishing Smile

SunshineCake1 · 04/01/2022 22:19

My best win was when DS saw me chopping peppers and he said he didn't like them. For once I had a good idea and bonded three different coloured peppers, milk and cheese for a sauce with pasta. He ate three helpings..Wink. Great way of getting extra veg in all of us.

DownUdderer · 05/01/2022 02:48

I've had a walk today, that was nice. I've order some hummus in my food shop, it'll lovely with carrot, and a good snack instead of chocolate or crisps.

Backofthenet20 · 05/01/2022 03:57

I have been wearing braces from Invisalign. Every few months I have to get rescanned & new trays made. During this time I only have to wear them at night. Removing them otherwise is difficult & needs brushing/ flossing so I drastically cut snacking. However in the 18 days where I was just wearing at night, I put in 4 1/2 lb. Yes it is Christmas but crazy how quickly bad habits creep back in. I have been back to healthy eating for the last 5 days & lost 3lb. Hoping to keep on track with eating and exercise.

Hope everyone is doing well. Happy New Year

Chimchimcharoo · 05/01/2022 07:14

I went for a swim last night. It was hard to get out in the cold evening but I did and feels really good now. Food choices have been ok. Lots of treats still about though. Am trying to drink more water at my desk too. Good luck to those weighing in today! I am giving it another week of good habits before I get back on the scales.

129orbust · 05/01/2022 07:50

Well done everyone on your activities yesterday - I barely moved as it was a long first day back at work and we are still home based.
So this morning I am 134.4lbs which is 1.4lbs down from yesterday morning. So 2.4lbs to get back to my lowest pre-christmas weight.
Onwards and inwards!

Allotment123 · 05/01/2022 07:55

Wednesday weigh in 11stone 1, so lost 1.5lb, not bad for a first week, will have to try harder this week as I'm now back WFH instead of walking and being more active. Good luck everyone

swampytiggaa · 05/01/2022 08:10

Wednesday weigh in - 10st 1.6lb so 2 lb down from New Year’s Day. I’m weighing every day and using happy scale to track my trends but I’ll join in the weekly weigh in.

I reset my scales data so New Year’s Day was my day zero so it will tell me how much I have gained or lost since then 😊

swampytiggaa · 05/01/2022 08:13

Anyway I’m off for a short run with a friend in a minute. After school I’m doing a c25k session with my daughter then at 6 I’m leading my running group 😂😂

In between I’m making a veggie cottage pie which I will eat between my 2 evening running sessions.

Otherwise I will be drinking water in between getting on top of my laundry mountain. Not sure why I thought getting all the beds stripped yesterday was a good idea 😭😭
