HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

So day one prop my back on it. I am back at work armed with plenty to drink and no temptations!

Plan for today
Lunch : salmon teriyaki rice and a raspberry low fat yogurt
Dinner : scampi with a large salad.
Snacks : 2 tangerines and a babybel light.

Have a lovely Tuesday everyone!

ginsparkles · 04/01/2022 08:28

*prop my should obviously say properly!

GettinTrimmer · 04/01/2022 08:41

Morning all, thanks TheRealHousewife for the link. I was on a thread where I wrote down 15 reasons why I wanted to lose weight and it really helped.

I like to see meal plans thanks for posting ginsparkles you've given me an idea, I have salmon in the fridge.

My ds is coming home today from uni (luckily only 1 hour on train) as I have told him if he misses his Dentist appointment today he'll be struck off! Last thing he thinks about is how it is to find another NHS dentist. Anyway, reason I mention this is it's good as he can take some more Christmas left overs back with him!

FireworkParrot · 04/01/2022 08:44

Morning everyone! I'm now on day 3 of 16:8 and finding it ok. I've been easing into it by not changing what I eat too much but just moving everything into my eating window of 12pm to 8pm. To be honest though I've found although I've not been eating the best food the last couple of days I'm definitely eating better than I was because I've completely curbed the evening snacking. I still did have some chocolate and some wine but because I stop at 8pm it means I have a bit after dinner but can't eat a full huge bar of chocolate or have multiple glasses of wine. I'm holding onto it being an improvement on how things were and want to build on that by making small steps towards eating better too. I've got omelette and salad on the meal plan for tonight.

We went on a family walk yesterday and I also did a HIIT workout so my activity levels have definitely improved. Planning a walk with the DC this morning to the shops (by the time I've walked there and back it's 3 miles and I've made it my new year's resolution to always walk into town and not to drive.....as an additional bonus I don't then have to find a parking space.) Wink

8stone13 · 04/01/2022 09:05

@swampytiggaa Are we living the same life?! I've just been thinking about what I might eat today & cheese & crackers or egg on toast is exactly what I came up with Smile I'm also weeing loads, I've upped my water intake but it's still disproportionate to the amount I'm losing! Pretty sure it's my body cleansing & detoxing...

Day 3 - Tues 4th Jan - 9s 7 & 1/2lb = 3/4lb loss

...which again isn't a true loss, it's all the weeing! This always happens to me at the start - it just drops off me, then it sticks. I'm trying to enjoy this early stage & keep it in the mental bank for motivation when the stalling inevitably begins.

Interestingly I didn't feel bothered about cream on my hot chocolate this morning, & that is one of the things I enjoy most in life. In fact it's my downfall, as it's what gets me craving a second hot chocolate later in the day. I've realised I'm already not looking for the next bit of chocolate/cake several times a day too. It's amazing how quickly it ebbs away. I'm pretty certain I've got a sugar addiction that feeds itself by being fed IYSWIM.

The critical thing when I've lost this weight is going to be maintenance. I've never been a yo-yo dieter until this last couple of years - I've lost when I had to then maintained well. But for the reasons common to most of us - access to food from being at home, the despondence of Covid etc - it's crept back up every time I've got it down. That's what I need to focus on changing 🤔

ShoppingBasket · 04/01/2022 09:43

@8stone13 I know the feeling! I always feel like superwoman drinking my skinny cappuccino while the kids tuck into their McDonald's.
@ShelbyLimitedCo I eat the skinny whip bars, the chocolate one. They are so yummy. They are a bit chewy so last longer than a freddo! I look forward to it with my evening cuppa. I don't like the flavoured ones like mint I find them very artificial. I've tried the skinny crunch ones and not gone on them. I have tried the coffee syrups and they are ok. A lot of people like the sauces but I'm addicted to sweet chilli so I just use a regular one.

Yesterday, I didn't do so good, fine up to 5pm and then I was like a hound looking for sugar. I went over by 300cals so today I'm going to walk that off me. I'm annoyed with myself because I was satisfied hunger wise.

New day
Meal 1 fruit and fibre with 60ml milk
Meal 2 tuna mayo salad
Meal 3 chicken fillet wrapped in bacon, potato and veg and tablespoon of stuffing

I'm still left with 400 cals so maybe I don't need to walk after all Grin

MyAnacondaMight · 04/01/2022 09:51

Wow, a lot of newcomers for January! Welcome everyone.

I’m back after a 2 week break, with a 3lb increase in that time (same as @129orbust - could be worse!). So starting 2022 at 10st 12lbs, and will be back on calorie counting and 3x week to get to 10st 0 sometime in March I guess.

Aims for January:

  • Run 5k
  • Reach 10st 7lbs
flower3305 · 04/01/2022 10:23

Hello

Starting today have woken up feeling motivated!

Making the most of the last day of the holidays and taking the kids on a bike ride - I will be walking behind but should be at a decent pace aiming for another 5km.

Trying to meal plan a bit but struggling for lunch ideas that aren't all bread based.

Having a salad with left of quiche today but that's probably not ideal. Going to try and counter balance with a jacket potato with salad and tuna for tea and melon and apple for breakfast.

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2022 10:54

On the MN iPhone app so not as skilled in replying & tagging individual posters. Just wanted to say some great posts/points being made. I especially like the post about having an eye on how to maintain once at goal!

Any newcomers, Welcome to the thread!

Have a good one! Smile

For those looking for menu plans/inspiration I've attached a 7 day menu. It's out of SW magazine. I don't do SW but I enjoy reading about the success stories.

Fingers crossed I've done it right as still on iPhone app Grin

I've just deleted all the chocolate from my favourites on my online grocery shopping account. It was painful as Cadbury's Caramel is currently on a really good promotion 😬 😀 But I felt better for doing it #littlevictories

swampytiggaa · 04/01/2022 12:10

@8stone13 I think we might be! I’ve lost 3lb from my NYD weigh in which I think is finally getting rid of the McDonald’s bloat. That festive stack was bloody lovely tho 😂😂

Anyway just done a 6.5 mile walk with a friend then had a black coffee afterwards 👍 just deciding what to have for lunch think I might leave it 7 minutes to hit the 19 hour mark on my fast 😊

2022success · 04/01/2022 12:19

Just checking in. All going well here. Have been sticking to under 1000 calories a day just to give my system a kick start. My daily walk was cut short today because of rain, but I can do some online exercise after work (only working this afternoon - hooray!)

My only issue really has been that I can't sleep. I think this is my body getting used to the lack of alcohol. Any other big regular drinkers experiencing this? I might need to pop over to the Dry/Babes threads to see what they are up to.

Still doing 16:8. Had ready break for lunch and will have cold roast beef and salad for dinner. Bananas and boiled eggs available for snacks if necessary.

SunshineCake1 · 04/01/2022 12:27

Welcome @hugocat and congratulations on your forthcoming marriage.

Don't feel lost @flower3305. You are with is again now. We all have you.

@justjuggling let the disappointment in yourself go. It serves no purpose and won't help m you've done it before so you know what you need to do and now you have us all to help you!

Great stuff @129orbust. I didn't think the gain would be as bad as you feared.

Remember @ShoppingBasket walking isn't just about weight off, calorie burning, it is about the health benefits and the mental of getting out in the fresh air. Also weight loss isn't linear so do the walk even though you don't need to pay back the calories as you'll have it in the bag for when you do go a bit over.

Welcome back @MyAnacondaMight. Nice to see you again.

Fabulous win there @8stone13.

I've added a 7km run and a 4km walk to my 2022km in 2022 challenge. I planned to run 5km while hoping I could do six but I did a different route and forgot there are four parts to there and back, there and back so did the 7km. Felt a bit sore after my surgery so might take tomorrow off.

Dh has put a goats cheese and veg wellington in the oven for me and we are having the left over veg and some cubed potatoes with it. DS2 will have gammon, egg and chips for tea and dh and I will have fresh bread and pate for dinner. I prefer larger lunch and smaller dinner so will do that as much as a can. I still have a snack mid afternoon but mainly to use up the mince pies and Christmas food. We still have loads left.

swampytiggaa · 04/01/2022 12:31

@SunshineCake1 ooooh mince pies 🤩 might need one of those to break my fast whilst I consider lunch…

swampytiggaa · 04/01/2022 12:31

And well done on your run 👍 don’t overdo it tho please 💕

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2022 13:26

👍 well done on deleted the chocolate @8stone13!

Great walking distance @swampytiggaa! 👏

@2022success if my cals or complex carbs are too low it affects my self. Not saying this is your issue though. Magnesium supplements can aid restful sleep 👍

I won't. I find it hard to balance the need to run for my mental health but also remembering I wasn't even fully better before my precedure never mind since !
Crazzzycat · 04/01/2022 13:43

Don’t be annoyed with yourself @ShoppingBasket. Building new habits is hard work and there will be some setbacks along the way. All that matters is that you keep trying!

I agree with you about the wider benefits of walking @SunshineCake1. I often stop on my walks to watch and listen to all the wildlife around me. That may not be ideal from a cardio point of view, but it’s great for my stress levels!

I’ve just done a short (2 km) walk in the sleet and rain. At one point I found myself in the middle of a huge flock of blue tits and great tits, so I stopped to listen to their constant chatter and watch them hang of tree branches in search of insects. It completely took my mind of everything!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 04/01/2022 13:43

Great work all - love reading the updates on this thread!

I have made a reasonable start. All Xmas food now gone, and the kids have finished their choc and biscuits so that temptation isn't there and makes my life easier.

Now, I am considering the Fast 800 but... Blimey... 800 cals a day for a min of 2 weeks sounds extremely hard to me. I don't want to feel constantly hungry/knackered.

Is it feasible? Or is it a recipe for 2 weeks of misery?

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2022 14:12

@TooManyPlatesInMotion I’ve done Fast800 previously. The recipes are tasty and well balanced, but over time it’s tough. If you’re totally in the zone and have a sizeable amount to lose perhaps give it a go. But if you’ve less to lose the 5:2 might be a more palatable option or even 4:3. That means just 2 or 3 days around 800 cals, the other days portion controlled.

You hard core minx @Crazzzycat walking in the sleet and snow ⛄️ 👍

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 04/01/2022 14:16

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. I'm going to look into the 4:3.

marmilade92 · 04/01/2022 15:59

I'm doing good today, back at swimming with bubs and it was snowing when we came out. My breakfast was cold (Huel shake) so I was desperate for something warm as my snack. Decided to have 30g of Ready Brek made with water (113kcal) and a dash of cinnamon. There was a substantial amount of it and was really comforting instead of some cold carrots or low calorie crisps. I have the Slim Fast porridge and it's 99kcal made with water and it comes out at maybe a third of the volume. So I'll probably stick to the Ready Brek and maybe try a skinny syrup in the future to add a different flavour if I get desperate. I fill nice and Toasty and full now Smile
