HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@melissasummerfield you too!!

Right, found the jeans. I can barely get them over my bum let alone do them up,so that is my goal - back into my favourite jeans.

Crazzzycat · 03/01/2022 20:14

@TooManyPlatesInMotion, when I started, I didn’t weigh myself for almost two months. When I finally hopped on the scales, I was shocked at what I saw, but could at least reassure myself that I was already doing something about it. I think that if I had weighed myself at the start, I would have given up before I started. So sometimes not weighing yourself can be a good thing!

Good Evening All

Fingers crossed @129orbust 🤞. Here’s hoping it isn’t bad news. Either way I’m sure you’ll be back on it and in the groove.

@swampytiggaa I haven’t had home made rice pudding for ages. Enjoy! You’ll soon walk off those mince pies tomorrow 😬

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 Your stir fry sounds tasty and you’ve just reminded me I have an avocado in the fridge … I’ll put guacamole on the menu tomorrow 🥑

@SunshineCake1 That was a decent length walk you got in! Hope you’re feeling somewhat better.

@NoodleSlurper sorry to read about high blood sugars. Hopefully the GP will advise and they’ll get back within normal parameters!

@Squirrelblanket that’s the spirit!

@ShelbyLimitedCo I haven’t had any ‘skinny’ items (I’m not sure what they are) but then again as a traditionalist (some would say old fashioned) I enjoy proper food prepped simply 😬 I’m sure someone will be along to advise you.

@melissasummerfield you’ve reminded me I haven’t had my vit c today! Thank you 🙏

@PopcornFiend welcome to the thread. Don’t be daunted it’s very doable. There are quite a few of us that have lost 30 - 40lbs and in the main kept it off. It’s no secret really, just find a sustainable and enjoyable way of eating that enables a progressive loss then tweak to maintain. Whole foods, good protein, healthy fats, complex carbs. I don’t have low fat anything. Just less of the full fat versions of Greek yoghurt, butter etc (not full of sugar or additives that lower fat stuff has) consistent and planning is key. Good luck!

@TinyTroubleMaker welcome to the thread. Never too late! Do you mind me asking how tall you are? Is the plan you’ve outlined one you’ve done before? Do you think you could maintain it long term?

I’m sure I will have cross posted so sorry if I’ve missed anyone …

@TheRealHousewife avocado is such a good one- it’s now one of my zero points foods on WW which has made a massive difference. Stir fry was so good, really enjoying healthy eating again after months of being terrible- that’s the worst thing- I actually love healthy food and am a cook cook- I just clearly have a sugar addiction which makes me feel rubbish. Determined to beat it! I’m interested to see you say you’ve lost so much weight with eating ‘proper’ foods and not low fat etc- this gives me hope as I’m really planning this time with WW to not fall into bad habits and eat low ‘points’ food that has no nutritional value! Luckily the new plan does seem to really encourage properly healthy eating.

TinyTroubleMaker · 03/01/2022 20:28

Hi RealHousewife answers.. I'm 5ft 3. Yes I've done it before about 15 years ago and it worked well and I kept it up until I lost what I wanted then changed to a maintenance approach. So that would be the plan this time too. I'd be happy to lose 2 stone but recognise that won't happen in a month by my big birthday. More like half a stone by then if I keep to it.

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2022 20:39

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 I’ve never had ‘slimming’ or ‘low fat’ foods. Real food, realistic portions (cc), no added sugar, complex rather than simple carbs, minimal alcohol 👍

@TinyTroubleMaker having done it before it’s tried and tested and therefore you know you could stick to it again. The thing to remember is if the wagon came off the rails, just get back on it. Good Luck!

Well I’ve made it through Day 3 of improving my diet and staying away from the chocolate.

I’ve had some cereal, a Greek yogurt, tomato soup, another Greek yoghurt and then a chicken and vegetable stir fry.

I feel a bit headachey at times and just a bit sluggish so not sure if I’m going through some kind of withdrawal?! My body probably thinks I’m starving it and it must be very confused about where the daily chocolate binge has disappeared too Grin

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2022 21:32

@DontWantTheRivalry well done! Your symptoms could be sugar/simple carb withdrawal … keep going, it’ll be worth it.

Day 1 completed on the 'Slimfast' diet (not absolutely relying on it). Ending the day feeling satiated, not necessarily full but not empty either. I've probably always been stuffed at the end of the day so I'm not used to being just 'ok'. Started eating at 2pm, finished at 9:30pm.

Breakfast - Huel banana flavour powder (1 scoop/200kcal)
Snack - Carrots and cube of cheese (~100kcal)
Lunch - Slimfast Coffee flavour shake (200kcal)
Snack - Slimfast Baked cheddar bites (100kcal)
Dinner - Christmas dinner leftovers meal prep (~600kcal I hope )
Snack - Guiltless whip bar chocolate and caramel (100kcal)
Liquids - 1200ml water and 600ml tea (with dash of milk)
Total - ~1300kcal

Tried to increase my water intake and found it a bit difficult but I feel nice and hydrated at least. Dinner was amazing, I have 4 of these prepped meals left. They probably aren't 600kcal but baby steps and ease into the whole diet thing. I always ask myself, "Am I doing better than I was?" and if it's a yes then I'm happy. I aim to try and do 'better' not necessarily my 'best'.

Chimchimcharoo · 03/01/2022 21:46

Just checking in. I had a lovely roast dinner today. 6000 steps walked. Back to work tomorrow with leftovers for lunch. New year weigh in today 13.8. Was the same last new year and promised I would lose 2 stone last year. No point looking back though. Positive steps forward.

8stone13 · 03/01/2022 21:54

Well I had quite a test this afternoon - I bought my Mrs a Burger King - her favourite treat - as a thank you for a load of DIY she did for me. I spent 20 years being rather supercilious about fast food, then met her & remembered how really bad it is. And when I say bad obviously I mean good Grin

I must have about 2 such meals per year but OMG when I do Grin Haven't had one for ages & could have demolished a chicken Royale but remained steadfast. I went to the supermarket whilst she ate it & bought fresh fish to steam. Floated out wearing my halo Halo and as yet haven't ended the relationship due to irrational jealousy of her food intake Wink

Nomoreusernames1244 · 03/01/2022 21:58

Aagg I stuck to my plan yesterday, same again today then took one of the kids training at 6 so missed dinner. Got in at 8, felt too late to cook so had some crackers and cheese which then lead to a bit of a fridge raid. Must remember that although eating dinner feels more, it usually is less..

On the plus side did my 5k a day row. Work tomorrow so will add a 30 min cycle to the row.

hugocat · 03/01/2022 21:59

Hi can I join please. I need to lose at least a stone and half. Just over 12 stone today. Today I re joined my gym after cancelling during lockdown.
I need to cut the wine right down and generally eat less as I'm a picker x

hugocat · 03/01/2022 22:00

ETA I'm getting married for the 2nd time in 6 months too so need to lose it for that also

flower3305 · 03/01/2022 22:09

Hi

I'm a long term lurker.

Having been on the scales today I could cry have over indulged pretty much since lock down started and now am a bit lost!

Dragged the family on. 5km walk today to try and kick start January am hoping some gentle exercise 4 times a week and curbing all the crap going back to three balanced meals will make a change

Smarshian · 03/01/2022 22:35

First proper day of the diet tomorrow. I have eased in over the last couple of days and weighed in this morning at 10st 7.5lb. Would like to be 9st 7lb.
Plan for tomorrow is a quick walk before work, overnight pay, chicken traybake and then a Gousto meal of around 500cals. Netball training tomorrow night.

BirdFriday · 03/01/2022 22:52

Checking in!

Have not fully started diet yet as still a few Xmas leftovers to finish today, but ate at a small deficit and exercised todays and yesterday

Back to work tomorrow so routine will make it easier to stick to a plan. I also want to go through my wardrobes this weekend to see what I haven't been wearing but might aim to get back in to!

Well done everyone on starting their plans!

NoodleSlurper · 04/01/2022 00:59
@NoodleSlurper sorry to hear that. What promoted you to get the tests done if you don’t mind me asking? I am paranoid about T2 diabetes. I am really, really overweight and so worried about getting it, hence being determined to make 2022 the year I sort it out. I don’t have any symptoms so far.
I have been having quite fierce heartburn (another indicator) and my doctor wanted to rule out heart issues. I also have previous liver things (fatty liver) so they test for that regularly.

NoodleSlurper · 04/01/2022 01:01

@flower3305, three meals a day sounds perfect according to the Obesity Code by Jason Fung. Just finished it last night and it was quite convincing.

justjuggling · 04/01/2022 01:35

Hello, am I too late to join? I weighed in yesterday and completed day 1 of healthy eating. During 2016/17 I lost 6 stone, and have regained 5.5 stone during the last 2 years. Am so disappointed in myself. But o know I can do it, and my plan is;

16:8
5+ fruit/veg a day
Be less sedentary (I WFH and don’t leave the house some days)
Portion control
Reduce carbs (I’m hypothyroid so this is really important for me!)

This feels like a very supportive thread and I look forward to getting to know you all better.

🙂

swampytiggaa · 04/01/2022 07:36

Welcome newbies! This is a lovely thread to be on. We all pootle along doing our own thing but supporting each other through it 👍

After my mega meal last night I started my fast at 5:15pm. Aiming to go to 12pm 🤞

Just had a cup of tea with some milk- can’t cope with the day otherwise 😂😂 then I’ll be getting ready for a 10k walk along the tarka trail. Was supposed to be a run but my friend is carrying an injury so we’re walking fast instead.

I’ll start eating at lunchtime… possibly egg on toast or crackers and cheese 😊 I’m considering toad in the hole with veg this evening or pork chop with ratatouille left from last night. Whichever I don’t have today I’ll have tomorrow 👍

Sticking with the water… had to get up in the night to wee which I haven’t for a while so assuming my body is getting used to it again 👍

Rshard · 04/01/2022 07:39

Hi justjuggling, I also wfh and often don’t leave the house so have committed to doing that in 2022. If you want to join me in that challenge?

First day back at work, and although I often feel a bit lonely at home all day in my own - despite endless online meetings, I am looking forward to dh and dd being back at work and college.

Are folks weighing in tomorrow or waiting until next Wednesday?

TheRealHousewife · 04/01/2022 08:16

Good Morning All

For those returning to work, taking children to school and nursery I hope it all goes smoothly 👍

@marmilade92 great post and it’s good idea to try to get in tune and comfortable about what’s real hunger and feeling satiated 👍

@8stone13 well done on swerving the takeaway 👏

@hugocat welcome to the thread. Congratulations 🥳 on your upcoming wedding. It’ll be here before you know it!

@flower3305 welcome to the thread. It can be a shock. I remember my shock when I weighed in the first time (3 years ago now) and I’d hit 12stone at around 5ft 😳😮. Totally shocked. I got on it there and then. Decided what I wanted to achieve, created a plan and then followed it. Let the shock be your impetus for change! Well done on the 5k.

@Smarshian great menu! I loved netball and was in the school team. Not played since leaving though.

@justjuggling welcome to the thread. You’ve done it once you can do it again! Plan seems doable 👍

@rshard I am weighing tomorrow but people can choose when they weigh in.

Menu
Meal 1 - Omelette… mushroom I think 🤔
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake
Tea, coffee (might try it black), water. Satsuma.

I got my short walk in yesterday 👍

Whatever you’re doing enjoy your day and any activity do with gusto 😬

Here we go again after a lovely two week break.
Well it was not as bad as I thought and I think it must be that the last few months have curbed the amount I can eat. So.....
135.8 which is just 3.8lbs up rather than the 6/7 I had feared.
I will have a careful eating day and see where we are in the morning.
