HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hello,

I'd love to join. I've had a bit of a rough year at times in 2021 where I took the focus off caring for myself. I'm trying to focus on me and my general well-being. It extends to drinking enough water, exercising (even if my body feels like it can only cope with walking that day) and not eating gluten or dairy (I'm intolerant but have been cheating recently - playing Russian roulette with my stomach - the pain and swelling in my hands and legs tell me I really have to STOP and be good).

I've a tumour in my pituitary gland and previously had very high prolactin - it caused huge weight gain for me very quickly. I'm medicated now, so in theory I should loose weight. I did loose about 1.5 stone by early summer, but did a lot of damage from Oct to Dec. I didn't even enjoy the binging! I was just processing a lot od emotional hurt at the time.

So I want to loose 4.5 stone. I might not be able to loose as quick as some. I'm calorie counting at 1500 per day. Strictly no gluten or dairy. Alkaline focused also to heal my body, but not 💯 as I will eat some salmon and chicken. I'll build up the exercise slowly as my body is sore and tired - I don't have the same energy reserves as others. I'm 50 next year and would like to get this under control once and for all.

Good luck everyone ❤️

swampytiggaa · 01/01/2022 13:44

@SunshineCake1 we’ll get through this together 👍

Did parkrun this morning. I was tailwalker and it took over an hour. Still 5k is 5k 👍

Just eaten egg on toast which was lovely and contemplating some crisps 😊 then I’ll make chilli for tea.

So far on the meal plan for next week is lasagna veggie cottage pie and toad in the hole. Need to really think about this.

Chimchimcharoo · 01/01/2022 13:56

So reading this thread for motivation and have started to calorie count today. Getting a meal plan in place this afternoon and out for some air whilst it’s light. Have also booked 2 gym spaces this week at local leisure centre. I am setting my intentions to be healthier this year and kind to myself!
Thanks for the links to articles, also reading those for motivation.

SavedbytheShaktimat · 01/01/2022 14:08

Not joined in talk on Mumsnet for years and just changed my name to something more interesting - originally joined thread as Teamburnett43… Sadly only the names changed and weight and fitness issues still the same!

Been for a decent walk with dog today and no alcohol now til DH birthday 3 Feb. Going to be a challenge but need to feel better long term 🙅‍♀️

General cutting back on food this week and moving more, restricting eating window to between 12pm and 8pm. Then the week after, if I’m still in right frame of mind, back onto Fast Diet, ie 800 calories 2 days a week, eating in that same time window. If that’s too much then I’ll up my movement in the fresh air, and increase yoga practices to improve my mental health at least.

There, I’ve said it. Hold me accountable! Please! Off to lie on my Shakti mat and visualise my new healthy self …🤩 Maybe!!

cherrytree63 · 01/01/2022 14:24

I'm feeling all fuzzy inside with how friendly and supportive everyone is!
I'm a frequent weigher, rather than a weekly. If my weekly weigh in fell on a bloated day I'd feel a bit disheartened, if it was on a "purged" day I'd think that would be a good excuse for a bar of chocolate Blush
Weighed in at 62.8kg with wet hair this morning.
I'm tempted to join a gym, I've been using the cost as an excuse to not go. But had a lightbulb moment, if I put aside the money I use on chocolate and crisps I could probably pay for a premium all bells and whistles package!
I also measured myself, that was depressing, realised I had the tape measure the wrong way round and I was even bigger when I read it from the right end Grin

2022success · 01/01/2022 14:35

Weighed in - Weighed In.

12 stone 12 at 5 ft 5. Age 56.

Did 5000 step walk today, which is about as much as I can manage due to limitations of hypermobility. Didn't eat until midday and will finish before 8. Logging food on MFP.

I poured nearly half a very expensive bottle of wine down the sink, and no alcohol now for at least January.

I daren't actually measure myself, I think I would spend the rest of the day week in tears so you are very brave @cherrytree63.

It always feels a bit shit this time of year, and I usually cheery myself up by booking a holiday or five, but can't really do that this year.

Just think how fabulous we will all look and feel in a month or so.Grin Halo

cherrytree63 · 01/01/2022 15:07

@2022success you're too kind!
I spend so much time in lycra/stretchy clothes that I don't notice I'm expanding until I go to wear something non stretchy.
I had a complete teenage meltdown on Boxing day, we were going out and NOTHING FIT ME BOOHOO Grin
I ended up wearing a slightly clingy dress. Unfortunately my only pair of tights wouldn't go up my fat legs so I ended up with a VTL, a VPL and my post surgery muffin belly.
I looked like the Pilsbury dough boy Grin

onwardsandupwards22 · 01/01/2022 15:24

@cherrytree63

Room for a not so little one? *@TheRealHousewife* I was on one of your earlier threads but I do struggle to keep up with the busy threads, so dropped off it. Hello everyone and happy new year! TLDR I was obese as a child, as an adult yo yo'd between 11 and 12 stone. I shot up to 14 stone when I was Ill a few years ago. Did the "light" bootcamp on here, started HIIT and did c25k and dropped to 9stone. Got out of the habit and I'm a very flabby 10 stone. I've now got arthritis and fibromyalgia and struggle with exercise due to pain and zero motivation. But I'm determined to sort myself out, hopefully losing weight will make things easier, and eating better food will ease some of the inflammation. Goals: I had a favourite pair of jeans in a size 16, as I started to lose weight I bought them in a 14, then 12, then 10. I now can't get the 10s over my fat thighs. So want to get up one morning and pour my svelte sexy body into those 10s again Grin Aiming to lower my carb intake, cut out all sweets etc (I can't eat a piece of chocolate, it's like crack to me so need to go cold turkey), no processed food and reevaluate in a month. I was starting today but woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the Tiramisu I bought for last night but forgot to eat so today might be my last fat food day Grin
I have fibro too and the chronic fatigue for me has become Horrendous Sad sending strength!
Youdoyoutoday · 01/01/2022 15:29

Happy new year everyone!!

Weighed in this morning 13 stone 12lbs! So that only 2lb in over Xmas, thank god.

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 15:42

Well done on your walk @melissasummerfield. I can't help feeling like I'm letting the side down as can't do any exercise for a few days. I really don't get how having a GA can leave one feeling so tired. I get the soreness but the tiredness is a surprise.

Many of us understand the emotional eating @spidersenses. Also, someone once said I was poisoning myself by eating the things I am intolerant to. Sounds dramatic but did help me to accept they really weren't items of food I should be consuming. Hopefully it will help you if you channel me in your head Grin. I have lots of people on this thread in my head at times Grin. Join me in my 🐢🐢club as I seem to have lost @Puffalicious.

We all need to be kinder to ourselves @Chimchimcharoo. Good luck with the gym sessions. Fresh air is so beneficial and we all should try and get out in it every day, even if only for a twenty minute walk.

Thank you @swampytiggaa Smile.

@SavedbytheShaktimat. We've got you. Good plan re alcohol. I've missed a drink in Christmas Day and New Year's Eve so waiting until my 50th in February. Haven't drunk for four months minimum after having glandular fever so no big deal but I bought lots of lovely drinks and would like to try them.

Do think about measuring yourself @2022wontbecrap. Sometimes they are kinder to you when the scales say no loss and it will be so lovely to watch the numbers get smaller.

A 2lb gain will soon go @Youdoyoutoday.

swampytiggaa · 01/01/2022 15:56

On the last thread @Crazzzycat told us she has set herself a 2022 distance challenge for this year 😊

An alternative is to do 20 mins 22 seconds of activity a day 😊 and personally I am following @buzzofthebumblebee’s example and setting aside 20:22 minutes of metime every day for some self care.

Feel free to join in if you want to!

Right then off to make chilli 👍

spidersenses · 01/01/2022 16:03

It's so true @SunshineCake1 - it is poisoning our body. I'm aware I'm doing it, but my willpower has been so bad since the summer months. Now is time to change!

Happy to be your 🐢🐢 buddy! I usually loose well to start with - well maybe for 2 weeks - then every pound after that is hard won!

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2022 16:05

Good Afternoon All

Welcome @firefly123, jump on board 😊. What’s your plan?

@swampytiggaa not far to go, I’m sure you’ll nail it!

@twinkydink sounds like a plan. Perhaps have a mini goal for February then you have a measure for your April goal 👍

Happy Birthday 🥳 for Wednesday @shutthedamndoor🍾

@GeorgiePorge don’t despair. Congratulations on your baby! Break your goal down into smaller goals. As far as what to eat (I’m assuming you’re ok cooking) buy fresh and cook from scratch if time allows. Saying that a chicken or prawn stir fry takes minutes. So concentrate on vegetables, good protein sources such as pulses, eggs, fish, chicken, meat. Healthy fats. Get some fibre in to. This site might be useful.

@goodjoujou welcome! A 25th Anniversary is a great motivational goal! You know what’s worked in the past, so that’s your plan sorted. Good luck!

I’m in the tortoise 🐢 club too @SunshineCake1 😬

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 you can do this!

@Tinabn I’m sure you look great! Do what I do … hardly ever look in the mirror 😬

@CrystalDeCanter absolutely love your style of writing … witty 😅. What walking app do you use if you don’t mind me asking?

@melissasummerfield well done on your walk. We are aiming to go when we’ve returned our guests home. I’m pledging to do 20minutes 22 seconds in honour of 2022 curtesy of @Crazzzycat & @swampytiggaa I think it was them who came up with the idea.

@spidersenses sorry to read about your ill health and intolerances. Both those aspects will make it harder but not impossible! Come on here for support and we’ll get you through 😊

Welcome @SavedbytheShaktimat! Removing alcohol is so beneficial for the body and weight loss. Great plan! I myself don’t generally drink but did have 1 or 2 over the festive period. Joking apart visualisation is said to be a powerful aid in achieving successful weight loss 👍

@Chimchimcharoo you’re welcome. I try to post something most days.

@cherrytree63 Hi 👋 and welcome back (if not said already) If you’re feeling daunted by the thought of going to the gym have you thought about exercising at home with bands or light weights? I know it doesn’t suit everyone. I had a moment like that Christmas Day. Put a silk red dress on. It zipped up ok but if I’d eaten as much as a pig in blanket I’d have split at the seams 😬 I’m going to use the same dress as NSV measuring tool over the coming weeks.

@2022success keep that imagine in your mind. When going to the fridge or cupboard visualise your future self. Imagine how you’d feel looking more svelte and how much more confident in yourself too.

I’ve attached Januarys calendar of positive thoughts too, for those who like that sort of thing.

Take Care

@Youdoyoutoday that’s a great result. Well done 👏 That’ll soon be gone!

Enjoy your chilli @swampytiggaa 👍

In my head you're at goal @TheRealHousewife so didn't remember you see yourself as a 🐢too.

No idea yet re birthday other than at the very least I'm not cooking and I'm having all the food M&S haveGrin. For my 40th dh bought me lobster but I couldn't deal with his face on my plate so we are thinking of trying again and he'll not give me one with the head on.

2022Bride · 01/01/2022 16:22

Afternoon! I’d love to join in please. Recently realised I am probably about 8kg heavier than I was this time last year, and with a wedding this year (23 weeks to go!) I’m feeling a bit glum about this. Planning to calorie count and exercise more as this is what’s worked for me before.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 01/01/2022 16:24

Thanks for the welcome @TheRealHousewife

A good day so far. Well within my WW points budget, done over 12.5K steps and have not had any sugar. Sugar addiction is a massive thing for me, and something I’m determined to address this year!

Good luck to everyone, hope the first day of 2022 is going well.

2022success · 01/01/2022 16:36

Thanks to everyone for such a supportive thread.

@TheRealHousewife I love the January planner (and anything like that) I have also been journaling which I find therapeutic. DS bought me a really posh journal for my birthday in the autumn and using it feels a bit like self care.

I am aiming to do a 5000 step walk every day if I can as I wfh and really need the vitamin D. It also helps with my stress levels which will be off the scale once I go back to work Sad If I can't go outside ( I don't tolerate rain well) I will do some sort of keep fit thing at home (yes, I am as hopeless as I sound) Someone on here mentioned Lucy double barrelled surname, and another friend in RL recommended her to me. Does she have lighter workouts for old fat unfit people to start with?

Going to get into my PJs soon and then make a mushroom omelette for dinner. I will be way under calories so MFP will probably refuse to register but I think I need a kickstart.

Rshard · 01/01/2022 17:00

I love the idea of 20 minutes and 22 seconds of self care swampytiggaa, I will join you on that challenge. Had a lovely bubble bath this morning so that will count for today.

Well done to those starting new regimes today, I e stayed low carb today and to be honest it’s felt really good to be back in control

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/01/2022 17:29

Happy New Year everyone, and thanks again to the amazing @TheRealHousewife for this brand new thread - already onto page 11, and it's Day 1!!

I'm free !!!! What I mean is I'm now feeling much better and out of covid isolation so went on a lovely walk today. Smiled all the way. Small pleasures and all that! I won't count that as my 2022 time - still need to think of something just for me.

I hadn't realised you've been off the alcohol completely Sunshine. Good on you. I'm doing DryJan and it's making me stressed thinking about it. Which I guess is even better reason for me to do it!

Food - I'm back to my normal "LOSE IT" eating plan from today which is no sugar, no biscuits, cakes, chocolates etc. Meals mainly protein & vegetables / salad, with ideally only 1 small portion carbs a day (brown rice, or a slice seeded bread, sm pasta or potato portion). Breakfast (yoghurt, some berries and seeds) if really hungry. No snacking unless I'm properly exercising too, then I'll have a piece fruit & handful of nuts.

Totally over-indulged yesterday, food (including biscuits and chocolate - shock horror!!) & fizz, so I shall take last wednesday's weight as my official one, and weigh on wednesday again next week ; ) But today and for a few more days it's drinking as much water as I can to flush out my system, and get back on an even keel.

I'm also hitting 50 this year, and find my mood is so much better too without sugar and alcohol. It's been tested being locked-in for whole of Christmas & NY week with older teens (and my DH) .... I'm feeling very much that I want Uni / School to start back asap to get back into my routine. I feel rather unsettled at the moment. Long post, sorry, feeling a bit lonely.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 01/01/2022 17:31

This thread is full of such lovely supportive people, good luck to all.

Decided on calorie counting 1,500 a day using Nutracheck, Apple Watch to count steps and log exercise though will be ignoring calories burned as I’m never convinced it’s accurate.

Weighed in a 11st 5lb this morning at 5ft 4 (aged 49 & it’s bloody hard work shifting the lbs!)

Did some boxing and Ring fit on the Switch today which definitely got the heart rate up! Really need to quit the cigarettes…

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 17:37

Tbh @buzzofthebumblebee I don't drink much anyway so can't take any credit for it. If dh hadn't been poorly we would have had some on Christmas Day and some last night if I had been allowed and he wasn't on meds. I'll offer me in your head too to help you abstain Grin.

Welcome @2022Bride and congrats on the wedding. Hat ordered Smile.

⭐️ of the day @hopingforabrighterfuture2021. Well done.

Enjoy your omelette @2022wontbecrap. Have you got some salad or veg to up the calories a bit?

Well done @Rshard. I'm going to give myself a pedicure tomorrow as had to take all my polish off for my GA.

For all the newbies, there are loads of these threads as @TheRealHousewife have been doing them for a while if you want to read more or check out more helpful links.

Don't feel lonely @buzzofthebumblebee. I'm here and so are loads of others. 🤗

SunshineCake1 · 01/01/2022 17:40

Hi and welcome @Purplepeopleeaterz. Giving up cigarettes is the single best thing you can do for your health. I'm offering a third channel @SunshineCake1 - every time you want a cigarette I'm telling you you are burning money you could spend on some lovely fish or lots of unusual vegetables or smart trainers for walking or new pants to feel good in etc Smile. You can do it.

cherrytree63 · 01/01/2022 18:13

@onwardsandupwards22 fibro sucks Flowers
I've been mildly flaring for a couple of weeks, and coupled with my new bulges I've been wearing my OH's jeans so look like a total bag lady Grin
@TheRealHousewife I'm going to dust off my Davina McCall DVD to get fit enough for the gym.
I'm having hand surgery on Tuesday so won't be doing weights for a while.
I'm going to have to ramp up my pain killers to be able to exercise, added bonus is they do keep me "cleansed" IYKWIM Blush

onwardsandupwards22 · 01/01/2022 18:39

@CrystalDeCanter

Hi all, I'd like to join too. Am a short old fatty who needs to lose 15kg.

I weighed in at 77.6kg when I started 2 weeks ago and am now 75kg, which at 5'2" is still v rotund.

I'd like to get to 60kg by tomorrow ideally but short of a new year miracle I reckon I could do it in 6 months

Am doing 16:8 and giving up the booze. But think I need to reduce carbs and up the veggies.

Also upping the exercise with a walking for weight loss app which is helping to keep me motivated.

Onward

Are you able to share the app name please,
