Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?

Yesterday I was 600 calories under my daily allowance. I won't be that far under today but I've got 860 left for my evening meal. (Southern fried chicken breast with sweet potato wedges and peas and sweetcorn) I might even have ice cream afterwards.

Well done today @HerRoyalHappiness

I guess it's just trying to get into the mindset of sticking to it but people don't realise how hard it can be. "Eat less, move more" is easy enough for people to say but harder to enact when our brains are against us for the eating and our bodies are against us for the moving.

I'm actually not much of a big eater which people always find weird when we eat together. I can't manage more than one course when out for dinner (and will be unlikely to finish it all) and if we had something like a roast dinner at home, all I could manage would be about one slice of meat with gravy, a small Yorkshire pudding and some veg. I don't really like potatoes so I tend to avoid things like chips, mash and roasties or I'll just have a very small amount of them (like literally one small potato at most.)

It's the between meals I have issues with because of that, I don't like raw veggies and I'm incredibly fussy with fruit (not a fan of seeds or cores in anything so they're a pain to prep, I'm also fussy with textures so bananas must still be green and an apple can't have a single bruise on it. I also can't stand the white stringy bits on citrus so even a small tangerine is a lot of work as I have to remove every white bit before I can eat it or I'll gag) so there aren't many easy to grab healthy options with how annoyingly picky I am.

So that along with having fibro it's obviously a lot easier to grab some crisps or make some nice buttery toast or whatever but I can easily go well over on my calories if I do that a couple of times between meals. At least I've stopped my Coke habit. I think most of my weight gain overall has probably been the fact that I love cold fizzy drinks and I can't have anything other than the full sugar version. I'll treat myself to a can now and again but I can't keep any in the house or it'll vanish so if I want it I have to walk to the shop for it which definitely makes me think about just having a cup of tea instead.

HerRoyalHappiness · 22/06/2022 16:55

I'm a nightmare for fizzy drinks too. But 2 litres of Dr pepper full fat version is only 200 calories, and the zero calories version is surprisingly nice.

OP posts:
ShinyPikachu · 22/06/2022 17:53

I can't have any artificial sweeteners at all. I miss Dr Peoper and Fanta so much since they added them to the normal sugary versions. Sad Some of the Fever Tree ones are good though as they're lower in calories without adding sweeteners but again I only buy one bottle at a time as an occasional treat.

Also, don't get me started on fizzy water, even without sweeteners I can't stand the stuff and it's the first thing people suggest when I say I like fizzy things but can't have sweeteners. I find it better to stick to hot drinks at home and go walking for a cold drink if I want one. I have a water filter jug in the fridge for if I'm desperately needing something cold at home though.

HerRoyalHappiness · 22/06/2022 19:37

Yeah fizzy water is just wrong.

HerRoyalHappiness · 23/06/2022 23:56

Another good day today, coming in 300 calories under target. And I ate ice cream 😋 it's far too hot and I can't sleep and have restless legs. Kind of a cruel irony that I can't walk very well but get restless legs.

I'm so annoyed with myself. I was doing well, but then I went on holiday at the end of May and haven't really got back onto things. I weighed myself today and I've gained 11lbs back!

I'm definitely getting back into it now because that's just ridiculous.

HerRoyalHappiness · 26/06/2022 21:00

@DuckWithOneWing don't worry too much about it, I'm sire it will come off quickly. I've had a couple of days break because I've been so stressed. I found out some very difficult news about a friend who committed suicide, then my cat ended up at the vets. Luckily we ended up with a very kind and knowledgeable vet. He has dry eyes, so needs them flushing and moisturising 3 times a day and his lower eyelids are too high and turn inward so he needs an op to fix them. Also his blind eye (he was blind in one eye and semi feral when I rescued him) is receding in its socket, so they're going to check that out while he's under too to see if he needs to have it removed. Which is what we thought initially bit the original vets I took him to told me he wouldn't need it removing and told me that his eyes were due to calicivirus and that it kept reoccurring and kept putting him on antibiotics that weren't working. So glad I took him to a different vet

ShinyPikachu · 26/06/2022 23:05

The important thing is getting back to it @DuckWithOneWing and I hope you enjoyed the holiday.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend @HerRoyalHappiness Flowers

Sounds like the other vet is working out better for you and I'll keep everything crossed for your cat.

I'm having the period from hell again this week so I haven't even attempted to count anything and I've eaten crap again all week. I've still managed some walking at least but I'm not going to be too hopeful for tomorrow's weigh in. I probably won't be very good this week either as it's my birthday during the week so lots of nights out planned. I've had way too much alcohol this weekend, will likely have some drinks during the week and I'm out again next weekend. I'll still weigh in but I won't be expecting anything other than a gain.

I don't know if anyone else follows Two Chubby Cubs on FB btw but they have a print off where you can track your weekly weigh ins for a year. Their plan is to aim for 1lb a week and colour it in green for a loss, red for a gain, I think it's orange for maintaining but I'm writing down my losses in the circle as well as colouring them in. I've stuck it to my hallway wall beside our family planner calendar so I have been more motivated the last few weeks to keep seeing green circles coloured in. If I have red for this weigh in and next it'll be the kick up the arse I need to get back on it as soon as the birthday celebrations are done. Smile

HerRoyalHappiness · 27/06/2022 07:10

By some absolute miracle, despite 4 takeaways and a ridiculous period I've lost a pound this week!

OP posts:
ShinyPikachu · 27/06/2022 12:33

Well done @HerRoyalHappiness

I wish the same could be said here. 2lb gain this week, but between takeaways and my period I knew it wasn't going to be good. I'm still down 4.5lb overall.

I've decided for this week coming that I know it's going to be a bad one but still going to do all I can to eat well in between the bad days so I can hopefully keep the gain to a minimum.

Echoes89 · 29/06/2022 09:04

Hope everyone is keeping motivated

Weighed in today, after having covid again, it's been on the slow side. But I finally have just under 3 stone to lose and nearly 4 stone down

SW - 17st 3lb
GW - 10st 6lb
CW - 13st 4.75lb

DuckWithOneWing · 29/06/2022 18:47

@HerRoyalHappiness How is your cat doing now?

@Echoes89 well done! You've done really well so far. You're over half way there!

I'm making "five spice tofu skewers" for dinner tonight. It's a recipe from an old slimming world book. I was looking through for inspiration and they sounded tasty.

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/06/2022 20:53

He's doing really well thanks. His eyes are much less gunky now they're being properly moisturised. Still look irritated from his lower lids rubbing on them but nothing major. Five spice tofu skewers do sound good.
I had mcdonalds. But in my defence I had to travel a total of 40 miles on public transport with DD all just to sign some paperwork. (20 miles each way) to the hospital that does light treatment for psoriasis because my local one doesn't do it for children.
The only problem is once she starts treatment I'll have to travel that distance 3 times a week to get her there. I'm going to phone when I get the appointment through and see of I can get patient transport because its just too far to travel 3 times a week.

Hi can I join please? I have 6 stone to lose! I started on 22nd March this year at 18st and I’m now 15st but aiming for 9 as I’m only 5ft 1. I’m using nutracheck which is just the best app, totally worth the money. I’m also doing intermittent fasting 18:6 and 10,000 steps a day plus 15 minutes of yoga in the morning. So far so good, I tend to start the day with protein porridge then have ryvita for lunch and lots of variety for dinners. Like a lot on here I’m not denying myself anything, if I want something I have it so long as I allow for it in my calories, carbs etc. I am keeping an eye on my carbs as I was filing up on them too much and didn’t lose for a couple of weeks. Nutracheck allows me 1412 calories but I tend to be about 1100-1200. I’m about to start my first job in 6 years which I’m really excited for but also anxious about what affect it may have on my fasting, exercise etc.

I also have two sets of scales currently, the ones I started on now show me at 14st 7lb but they are analog and I was struggling to see the little lines so we bought some digital ones and they weigh me 6lb heavier! So I’m going by those but desperately want to go by my old, kinder ones! Dh and I call them the old gods and the new gods 😆He’s doing keto and has lost just over a stone in 6 weeks but while I admire his commitment there is just no way I could be happy on such a restricted diet!

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/06/2022 16:01

Hi @Prettybubblesintheair of course you can join. That all sounds positive what you're doing to lose weight. I agree about keto, I couldn't manage it it would make me miserable although I admire those who do manage to stick to it!

OP posts:
Prettybubblesintheair · 30/06/2022 17:23

Thank you! I honestly don’t know how dh does if. Every night he has meat and salad for dinner. That’s it. If he’s feeling really crazy he might throw in a cheese omelette as a treat 😁! I honestly couldn’t cope with that I’d be bored to tears! Tonight I really fancy fish fingers chips and beans so that’s what I’m having! Last night I had a vegan coconut, chickpea, sweet potato korma and a mango coconut chicken breast with two poppadoms and the night before that I had a Thai salmon fishcake with new potatoes roasted in the oven. I like my staples at breakfast and lunch but I need variety at dinner otherwise there’s no way I’d be able to stick to a diet!

Does anyone else weigh differently on different scales?

DuckWithOneWing · 30/06/2022 18:57

The five spice tofu skewers were amazing! They're also really easy to make. You make a sauce (well, they called it a marinade, but you didn't have to leave it to soak which I thought was the point of marinades) using 6 tbsp tomato puree, 4 tbsp soy sauce, juice of 2 limes, 1 tbsp Chinese five spice powder and then salt and pepper. Then you just cover the tofu and some vegetables in the sauce, put on skewers, and grill for 15 minutes. I used potatoes, button mushrooms, pepper and baby courgettes. It came to 263 calories per portion on MFP, and the sauce is enough for 4 portions. I used fairly standard wooden skewers and it came to 4 skewers each.

I also bought sausages when I went to Sainsbury's. I wrote them on the shopping list so I'm assuming there was something I was intending to make with them - but I really can't remember! Anyone got any good sausage recipes? They are vegetarian sausages if that makes a difference.

Welcome @Prettybubblesintheair! When I used to go to SW regularly, I would weigh about 4lbs heavier on my home scales than theirs so I think it's fairly normal (if irritating). I think the best thing to do is choose one set and stick to them, because if you lose weight on them then you must've lost something!

Prettybubblesintheair · 30/06/2022 23:08

Thanks @DuckWithOneWing that makes sense. I usually weigh in on a Friday morning but I’m just coming to the end of a horrific period so I’m going to wait until Saturday morning as I’m so bloated and I’ve worked really hard to stay on track when all I really wanted to do was eat crap! I tend to weigh 6-7lb more just before and during my period and even though I know it’s hormonal I don’t think I can face the gain! So I’ll wait until I’m done.

With sausages I like making sausage and bean casserole so fry garlic, onion with the chopped up sausages and loads of spices like smoked paprika, chilli etc. Add tin of baked beans, chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, leeks and whatever veg you have laying around. Add some passata or stock, season and add more spices then bring to the boil turn down and let simmer for 40 minutes, stirring every 15. Serve with rice, mash or bread. The casserole works out about 300 cals a portion then just add on whatever you decide to serve with. Using 6 sausages this makes 4 portions for us. Tomorrow I’m doing a dinner keto dh can actually have too! Chicken breast stuffed with pesto (low fat for me, full for him) then wrapped in Parma ham served with green beans, roasted mini potatoes and rocket then I’ll make a sauce with creme fraiche and Parmesan. Dh will have two chicken breasts as he can’t have the potatoes and more salad.

DuckWithOneWing · 01/07/2022 20:57

Thanks @Prettybubblesintheair that sounds great! I think I'll make it on Sunday as a friend is coming over for dinner.

I'm really proud of myself. Tomorrow I'm going to an event in London, and I'm not sure what the food will be like there so I've made something to take with me! It's SW Crustless Quiche, which I've never made before but some people seem to rave about it. I'm not actually following SW, but I have a lot of recipe books from when I did so I'm using those for inspiration. SW gets a bad reputation for Mug Shots and Mullerlights, but if you follow their advice and not stuff made up by people on Instagram/Pinch of Nom it's generally just normal food that's high in veg.

HerRoyalHappiness · 01/07/2022 21:38

@DuckWithOneWing we love quiche in this housem well done for planning ahead and taking something with you.

Prettybubblesintheair · 01/07/2022 23:36

Well done for planning ahead! I’ve had a bit of a bad day, we are having our kitchen ceiling re-plastered after some bad water damage and the guys doing it didn’t turn up until 5pm! They didn’t leave until 7:30 so didn’t get to make what I’d planned and ended up having a Thai fishcake and chips and rocket. Feeling really bad for having oven chips two nights in a row but it was just too late to do what I’d planned. I had porridge for breakfast and then just a snack at lunchtime so came in under my calories. The kids want McDonald’s for tea tomorrow so I’m going to see how I do with my weigh in and may join them!

Prettybubblesintheair · 02/07/2022 09:54

Well I lost 2lb. Was hoping for 3 but never mind it’s taken me under my next stone! I’m now 14st 12lb, I have a family do on the 29th of July and Id really like to be 14st by then so need to work hard!

DuckWithOneWing · 02/07/2022 10:05

This morning I had what might seem like the weirdest NSV ever: I sat next to someone on the bus!

DuckWithOneWing · 02/07/2022 10:08

Somehow the rest of my post disappeared.

Usually I take up about 1.5 bus seats so can't sit next to anyone, but today I didn't!

@Prettybubblesintheair McDonald's do have a 400cal section but I think it's just a chicken wrap. I usually have a burger without the bun because you save loads of calories, then have a side salad. I call it a burger salad.

@HerRoyalHappiness thanks! The quiche did look a bit weird before it was in the oven, but afterwards it was fine and it tastes amazing.
