Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?
@ShinyPikachu both slimming world and WW have the same criticism on here and it all relates to the old days when you could eat a mars bar for the same syns or points as proper food. It's not like that at all anymore.

I loved my couple of weeks on WW, found it super easy to stick to and I was definitely eating more veg than before due to the extra points it gives you back. I can see it working for anyone with a 'normal' metabolism/ hormone balance!
It's so annoying isn't it? I did WW online years ago before I found my pics SW group and I know it's changed a couple of times since then. SW went through multiple changes when I was there (it was still the time of red days or green days when I first went Grin). But of course people won't believe plans like that change and say they're all bad.

Then you get the good old MN line of "eat less, move more". Not so easy when you have chronic conditions meaning that too much movement can be worse for you and it's all about finding the balance so you don't end up bedridden for days.

ShinyPikachu · 18/01/2022 12:30

@HerRoyalHappiness

Well my scan has been cancelled due to staff shortages
That's annoying, especially when you have to avoid eating before it. Sad I hope you at least weren't on the way when you found out.
HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 12:33

Luckily it was just before I'd set off that they told me!
I've now eaten some shreddies and feel satisfied with that. And at least I can have a coffee now!

@DollyDingleberry

Shame about WW - it's one of the few plans I can stick to and that works for me. We have to keep an eye on carbs because dh is diabetic so we have got sort of used to adjusting dishes to take this into account. It's not shepherd's pie, I know, but a while ago I made a lasagne using sliced courgettes instead of pasta sheets. The meat etc was the same as I usually make, just replaced the pasta with the courgettes. I used less cheese than usual (but stronger so it gave a similar flavour) and it was perfectly edible. Would that be worth a try for you?

This is a regular meal for us for low carb, you've just reminded me of it and I'm adding it to next week's menu Grin

It is a shame about WW - the reason I liked it was that I could eat what I wanted and it wasnt overly carby but even on reduced carbs it wasn't working. I also need higher fat during low carb to stay satisfied and they doesnt work in the points system.

I lost 7 stone when following SW a few years ago. The common myth seems to be that everyone eats Muller lights and mug shots. One never eaten a mug shot in my life, and although I do have a Muller light sometimes to make overnight oats I don't have more than one a day. The actual advice is to eat a lot of veg, especially the lower calorie ones that are called "speed".

I'm currently following SW (but not going to meetings, so it's probably not the most up to date plan. I left just before Muller lights were syns. It worked for me then so I don't see any real need to change it). But if I really can't, because I don't have access to all of the syn values, then I'm counting calories. Like I went to McDonald's the other day and made choices that were lower in calories. It might sound a bit crazy but it seems to be working!

I've lost another 2lb this week!

I've never done WW so don't really know what the plan is like. I know it comes in different colours but that's about it. It seems a bit similar to SW from what you're saying, but in SW we don't get to earn anything back by doing exercise or eating veg Sad

I made Fridge End soup at the weekend. I basically chuck a load of veg that is in the fridge and needs using up into a saucepan, and boil it with a couple of stock cubes. I make sure I am an onion but then everything else depends on what is in the fridge. This one has carrots, potato, leek, a sweet potato and butternut squash. I use different veg each time but it always seems tasty.

Has anyone read the slimming World thread? Where the OP made owl noises in a womans face? I can't stop laughing. It's just bizarre!

I'm meant to be working and I can't stop checking that post for the comments. Grin

Yes and it’s insane! Goes back to what we were saying about diet zealousness though!

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 18:46

@DollyDingleberry it does! It's so crazy. I'm autistic and don't understand social interaction at the best of times but I wouldn't coo in someone's face. I wonder what was going through her head

Almost didn't want to post this but here we go. I had a large lunch and some snacks which I seem to have added to my lunch instead of snack section thinking DH was going to take my suggestion of picking up something easy but healthy at the supermarket. He came back with a Dominos and a box of salted caramel Magnums. Blush

No chance of getting any exercise calories back today as I'll be stuck at the computer until Friday but I guess I need to get this work done so I can go to pilates on Thursday evening for sure now. Blush

Well done for staying accountable and tracking it though, that’s huge. It could have been A LOT worse. For those cals you can only have had a couple of slices of pizza and an ice cream rather than a whole pizza and the whole box —like I would have—

802 calories over budget is easy enough to make back - that’s only 161 calories per day between now and Monday that you’d need to eat under your target to make it back and that’s assuming you did no exercise at all. That’s like a large banana.

You’re absolutely fine and you’ve got this!

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 21:24

To gain a lb of fat you need to eat around 3500 calories so seriously don't worry, if you do see a spike on the scales it will be salt, or water retention not actual fat.

OP posts:
ShinyPikachu · 18/01/2022 21:37

Thanks @DollyDingleberry and @HerRoyalHappiness you've both made me feel a bit better.

Thankfully I couldn't have eaten all the Magnums as there were only 4 and there are 4 of us so none spare. 😁 I'm actually not a big pizza fan anyway so yeah it probably wasn't as bad as it could have been. I shared a large size pizza with youngest DD but let her have more of it. I would definitely have been a lot worse if it had been a Chinese or Indian takeaway. Blush

I did end up over yesterday too but not by much. Thankfully DH is working tomorrow night so I might ask eldest DD to go to the butcher and she can cook something like cheeseburger pasta. She's getting better at it but she's so literal with recipes that she will cook something that says 10 minutes for exactly 10 minutes rather than judging if it's properly done yet or not, so we have had crunchy pasta in the past.

DS2 now has covid! I never get a bloody break.

ShinyPikachu · 19/01/2022 09:22

Oh no @HerRoyalHappiness ThanksThanksThanks I hope it's not bad and this is the last time for your household. You've had more than enough of your share of it!

You've reminded me I was going to test again today. It's not a big deal when I'm not going anywhere but one of the family members we met at the weekend was coughing and sneezing everywhere then another started to feel ill on the Sunday. We would have heard from them if they'd had positive tests but I'm super paranoid about being around anyone ill, even a cold can floor me for days. Sad

HerRoyalHappiness · 19/01/2022 09:39

He has no symptoms at all luckily it's just frustrating as it means I'm stuck in the house again

Neverknowinglyunderfed · 19/01/2022 09:50

@shinypikachu yeah well done for tracking and it will easy to make back the rest of the week bit by hit. I'm so guilty of having a binge and just not acknowledging it on MFP 🙈

oh god I'm so sorry about another covid. It's never-ending at the moment. Hope the symptoms aren't bad and you can get back to normal quickly 🤞🏼

Well I did my second weigh-in this year this morning and I'm down 4lbs. Kind of surprised with that as I normally stay the same on the second week of weigh-ins but I'll defo take it. I am feeling much more energetic even though I've got a lot of weight to shift.
I've found getting out for long walks easy this week as it's been such nice weather. It's crap here today so need to make myself get up and out with the baby today and just wrap up!

elliejjtiny · 19/01/2022 10:33

@DollyDingleberry. I tried slimming world a few years ago and calorie counting last year. Was really good at sticking to it but weight stayed the same. The only diet that seems to work for me is low carb which is annoying because I really like carbs and sugar.

@ShinyPikachu Well done for tracking and sharing. I find that really hard after eating "bad stuff".

@HerRoyalHappiness Sorry to hear that your ds2 has covid. We are now on day 3 and it's still just my 11 year old who has it. Hoping that continues.

@Neverknowinglyunderfed Well done on the weight loss, that's brilliant.

You’re probably insulin resistant like me!!

2 weeks sticking absolutely perfectly to weight watchers: lost 0.5lbs, then gained 1.5lbs.

4 days on low carb, high fat: lost 4.8lbs so far and it’s only Thursday. Hmm

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with weight watchers or slimming world for the metabolically healthy, they work brilliantly for so many people. But if you are insulin resistant it’s a lot harder to lose weight with any diet that doesn’t incentivise lowering carbs.

When I cancelled my weight watchers subscription they asked me why and kept arguing with me that lowering carbs wouldn’t help me lose weight and I have to say I did lose a bit of respect for the program from that. I’d still rather be eating weight watchers than low carb though!

Ah well, the weight flying off should be enough to keep my going even if I am reluctant!

ShinyPikachu · 20/01/2022 12:02

Carbs are an interesting one with me. I can lose weight fine with things like pasta, oats, rice and so on. But if I have bread, even wholemeal, I'm much less likely to lose weight. It's not an intolerance as it doesn't affect me in any other way but I do find if I can cut my bread out then it's much better for me.

I forgot a screenshot last night but I actually came in under calories. One under is still under. Grin

I'm so busy today that hopefully that means I don't have time to want to snack at all although it's a pilates day so I'll need to eat something decent before the class too.

HerRoyalHappiness · 20/01/2022 12:39

I've had a terrible day so far. I've comfort eaten after taking my very fat cat to the vet. He has a chest infection, eye infection, and cat flu. So he's on a whole cocktail of meds to fix him (antibiotics, eye drops and anti inflammatories) so I spent a small fortune.

Don't skip tea @HerRoyalHappiness, it's not good for you. Just eat something light and low calorie if you can. And remind yourself that tomorrow is a new day and you can do this.
