Anyone else with 10st plus to lose?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/12/2021 11:07

Im 30 and I weigh 19st 7lb.

Ideally I'd like to lose 10st. I'm obese and I hate it.
I started again dieting yesterday.

I can only manage 5000 steps a day due to being disabled, and I do those with a frame.

I'm hopeful that if I lose the weight there'll be less pressure on my already buggered joints.

Anyone else with a lot to lose would you like a daily check in thread with me?

@Longingforatikihut

Checking in for the first time in a while.

I'm loving exante. I'm 7lb down as of this morning. I'm waiting on a big order from them. Been feeling more energised, not felt hungry but my gut is clearly making some adjustments as it's 'chatty'.

I've been tracking which meal replacements I do and don't like and definitely more in the like column by far. Not everyone is being supportive, they think it's too extreme. But I did months of research into what would be best for me.

I’ve just been reading about exante- which plan are you doing?
zebrarobot · 17/01/2022 20:13

Hi, i hope i can join!

I did have 10+ stone to lost but have lost 2.5st.
I actually lost 7st in 2019 then it got to Christmas that year, then Covid hit, then a pregnancy and new baby. Shes 8 months now and I weigh now what I did the week before I had her! She was 9lb 13!

Im ashamed of letting myself get back to this.

I weighed 20st 7lb on 6 jan 2019. I got down to 13st 4 that December.
1st Jan 2022 i weighed in at 18st 9. As of 2 days ago I am 18st exactly so down 9lb.

Weigh ins are in a Saturday and im doing calorie counting and at least 10k steps a day plus a couple of youtube workouts a week.

First goal is back to where I was at 13st 4. Overall goal probably around 11st. First mini goal 17st.

Havent rtft but I will now... hope its ok to join! I feel like today is a slippery slope as ds who is 4 has come down with Covid and we're all now isolating for 10 days so its like an excuse to eat shit and be lazy but I cant let that happen! Luckily DH is on board and also has some weight to shift so we are supporting each other.

HerRoyalHappiness · 17/01/2022 20:17

@zebrarobot welcome to the thread. Smile
Congratulations on the baby, and sorry covid has hit your house!

I've had a bad weekend I have a neurological disability that I get an IV treatment for once every 4 weeks. In the last few days before it I get very tired. The treatment was today.

So we ended up with Indian takeaway on Friday night and I ate my own body weight in pakora (slight exaggeration!). There was enough left over for Saturday. Sunday I was energetic enough to make leek and potato soup in the instant pot but ruined that with the amount of bread I ate. Tonight I only got out of hospital at 5:30 and took ages getting home. Ds (19- he picked me up) suggested just getting takeout as dh had had an awful day at work (he's a GP and 2 patients died today, the first time that's happened in over 20 years of being a GP).

So I've had spring rolls and salt an chilli chips (check me going for the healthy options 😜). And 3 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc.

Tomorrow is a new day. At least I don't weigh in till Wednesday!

RunningInTheWind · 17/01/2022 21:53

Hi zebrarobot congrats on the new baby and welcome. That’s a hella impressive loss in 2019!

weegie aye, but haggis pakora. 😍 it’s my birthday this week and the Indian is coming to town - yep, I’m that remote the mountains come to us. I am going to have to pretend it’s not there.

dolly I hate “no carb” so am just very careful about limiting them - or at least serving in a “low GI” way. I lived abroad and my prescribed dietician told me low-carb was what they advised for pcos/fertility issues. So for example I’ll make a low-carb soup - but I’m having 2 slices of seedy bread slathered in butter with it. But no other carb heavy things during the day.

zebrarobot · 17/01/2022 22:15

Thank you @HerRoyalHappiness and @RunningInTheWind for the welcome! I love threads like this for keeping me motivated and accountable

I cant wait to get back to where I was... I have a whole suitcase of slim clothes taunting me in the loft.

I meant to say ive been doing intermittent fasting too, has anyone tried it? I usually eat my calories between 12-8 or 1-9 and find having a start and stop eating time really helps.

Today I had subway salad for lunch , 2 rich tea biscuits with my coffee.
Dinner was a low fat cream cheese and ham spaghetti with peas.
I also had one of those raw pressed bars like the Nakd bars except they were from home bargains. 96 cals skinny raw it was called. Caramel fudge i think.
Then while watching the telly i had an orange toffee crisp and a chocolate Ruffle bar with a diet pepsi. Plenty of water and 2 other black coffees today.

I find meal planning helps so we work out all the dinners we will have that week on a Monday and its stuck on the fridge

weegiemum · 17/01/2022 22:16

@ RunningInTheWind Haggis pakora! Haven't had that for a while, it's amazing!

You must be pretty remote if the Indian comes to you. We used to live in the islands and had worked out that if you phoned in an order it would be ready when you'd driven half an hour to get it, and it was at perfect eating temperature when you got back to the house if you put it in an insulated bag. Or we'd get one while doing our food shopping, and get an extra naan bread to feed to the kids in the car on the way back home!

In weegieland they deliver!

TheCatShatInTheHat · 17/01/2022 22:36

Hey
Low carb and no crap is the only way I lose weight. Once the craving has gone it's pretty easy to stick too.

Normal food intake is:
B: Yogurt, nuts, small banana and berries.
L: chicken salad or omelette with loads of veg thrown in.
D: normal meal but swap out the carbs for salad or veg of some discretion.

Down a few dress sizes (18 to a 14) with another 2 sizes to lose (I don't weigh myself).

Good luck everyone !

I’m hoping to one day be able to do the same when I’m maintaining!

Yes in other countries, low carb for PCOS is the norm but here it’s still not NHS approved. Awfully, they direct you to NHS healthy plate which is a high carb diet... which as someone with PCOS is possibly the worst thing you could eat. My husband is diabetic and it’s the same for him, the prescribed diet is still high carb.

RunningInTheWind · 18/01/2022 06:36

I can well believe it dolly - my mum was Type I and they told her to “fill up on toast with margarine”.

weegiemum similar situation - they’d take your husband’s hand off!

Longingforatikihut · 18/01/2022 06:58

@DollyDingleberry I'm doing the 800 plan.

I'm doing 6 weeks of 4 products a day, then 6 weeks of 3 products and a 200 calorie snack.

After the 12 weeks I'll do a short stint of 4-8 weeks on their 1200 plan before returning to 800. I have a lot to lose so it's going to have to go in cycles.

I'm really loving exante though. The practicalities of just adding water and the variety of flavoured shakes, meals, bars. I think I've finally found what works for me.

That’s brilliant that you’ve found something that’s really working!

As for people telling you not to do it - you get that with absolutely any diet. Slimming world/ weight watchers included. It usually comes from people that have never had a proper weight issue, or from serial dieters I find.

Thing is, you’re fully aware it’s not a ‘forever’ solution to your weight issue and that you’re not going to be eating like this in a years time. The point of meal replacement therapy is to break down problematic relationships with food and addiction. The hard bit is returning to eating food eventually but often the motivation of seeing yourself at a healthy weight is enough to keep you there.

Really really interested in your journey and how you get on. Most meal replacements are too high carb for me but I’ve often thought how brilliant it would be to just give up food and not have to think about it!

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 07:12

People will always have an opinion on dieting. They don't get that it's an individual thing, everyone will have something different that works for them.

Exactly this. LCHF doesn’t work for some people at all - usually people who don’t have a lot to lose or have never eaten particularly carb rich diets. It works for people who are insulin resistant which is actually a huge portion of the population, but only if they find they can stick to it which narrows the field a lot.

On the menu today:

B: full fat yoghurt with double cream mixed in and a double cream coffee

L: chicken and veggie kebabs with a big salad (lots of olive oil) and full fat mint yoghurt dressing

D: roast chicken with skin, broccoli and cauli with tons of butter. I might fry the veggies in the butter if I’m feeling fancy.

RunningInTheWind · 18/01/2022 08:02

dolly I’ve never really thought about it like that - the people who don’t eat so many carbs in the first place. I’ve always struggled with LCHF - and medics have always seemed slightly disappointed I show no insulin resistance. Grin

I lost weight in my 20s on beer, fags, coffee and speed - but I suppose there are some who’d say that’s unhealthy too!

I'm back on it VERY begrudgingly. I bloody love carbs (which might explain how i got in this mess in the first place! Blush)

The problem is it absolutely carves weight off me when every other carb/sugar rich diet sees me staying exactly the same weight or gaining over time. I need to get this weight off ASAP (PCOS post-birth complications mean I'm bleeding heavily and my iron levels are now a concern) so that i can go onto birth control to control my bleeding long term so it's got to the point where there isn't really another option i can try without going down the VLCD route which again is dangerous for me due to the lack of iron. Bah!

Longingforatikihut · 18/01/2022 09:21

@DollyDingleberry I have pcos. It will make the last few stones difficult to move, I know this, but I'm currently in the extremes of obesity and luckily the exante is working now. When it stops working I will adjust.

You'll be fine! PCOS is a proper bastard and half the battle is just getting the weight off in the first place. If exante is working for you then run with it with both feet because god knows it's hard work with PCOS to even get as far as finding something that works!

You might find you know that meal replacements get you all the way to your goal - there's no reason why they wouldnt given that they're 800 cals for a lot of the time and it's hard to eat a lot of carbs on 800 cals anyway, so you'll naturally overcome the insulin resistance that comes with PCOS just from following the plan.

I was hoping for the same from weight watchers but alas, not to be!

This is so true and it's actually why I'm loving our little group here as we're all doing different things but happily discussing it all together without having the "oh you shouldn't do that".

I actually did well on SW for years before but I need to stay to the groups and I just don't have time for that now, our local group changed location too and because I don't drive it's not as easy to go to. I still need the accountability but without any shame so posting here while calorie counting gives me that. But you mention SW in some areas of MN and people start bleating on about mountains of pasta and unlimited Mullerlights (although I know they had to add syns for those because some people really did go for the unlimited Mullerlights option instead of thinking how to use the plan in a balanced way.)

Anyway, welcome @zebrarobot and congrats on your baby!

I have two deadlines this week so I need to make sure I still plan my time to eat properly instead of just grabbing a bag of crisps every time I feel hungry and then finally giving in and getting a takeaway. DH is off work today so I might get him to go to the supermarket and stock up on some healthier options that don't take any effort to cook so either he or DD can cook them for us all.

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 11:08

I'm not allowed to eat until after my scan today so I'll have to make sure I don't fall head first into the junk food!

DollyDingleberry · 18/01/2022 11:29

@ShinyPikachu both slimming world and WW have the same criticism on here and it all relates to the old days when you could eat a mars bar for the same syns or points as proper food. It's not like that at all anymore.

I loved my couple of weeks on WW, found it super easy to stick to and I was definitely eating more veg than before due to the extra points it gives you back. I can see it working for anyone with a 'normal' metabolism/ hormone balance!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 18/01/2022 11:35

I'm just getting to grips with the new WW and am loving getting points for exercising. It's the boost I need to get out and go for a walk each day. I have physio strength training exercises that I'm supposed to do but don't. Now I get points for them!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 18/01/2022 11:39

I've discovered that I get diffent number depending on where on the floor I put my scales. It's very strange. Moving them a foot to the side can take/add up to 5 kg to my weight.

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 11:43

Well my scan has been cancelled due to staff shortages

Longingforatikihut · 18/01/2022 11:58

@DollyDingleberry I do hope I can go all the way with exante. But I think being prepared to switch it up will stand me in good stead. But that's a looooong way off. I'm such a size that I think this will be a very long journey even with my initial great success.
