@neverenoughchelseaboots 1st 3lbs in one week! Shock

@Knittingnanny fingers crossed you are still able to go see your boys next year, definitely an incentive to stay mindful over the next few months

@Morningmaeve I'd be scared to measure my waist, especially as I've now jumped up to about 10st4/5 (I think). How are you doing mood-wise?

@Sooverthemill I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling with pain, how are you feeling now? How's fodmap going?

I am BACK! I have been visiting friends around the country for the last 10 days or so, I am finally glad to be home and have some alone time. For someone who is child-free, 10 days hanging out with numerous children over 3 visits was a bit much! I'm also glad to take a break from the alcohol; my diet was carb-heavy when away, and the temptation of children's snack cupboards was too much to resist.

Today:
B - cappuccino
L - carrot & lentil soup which I think @morningmaeve linked to a few weeks ago, and 1 slice of rye toast
D - cauliflower & chickpea coconut curry with rice

Morningmaeve · 08/12/2021 13:30

Welcome back @purplegirl13 - I am feeling a little better thank you for asking. I’ve let the diet go a little bit as I figured it was better to be extra kind to myself and my appetite wasn’t great anyway.

purplegirl13 · 08/12/2021 16:58

@Morningmaeve that sounds sensible, I'm glad you're feeling a little better

I almost stayed on track yesterday, until I had some toast late at night

Today:
B - cappuccino
L - cauliflower and chickpea coconut curry, with rice
S - greek yogurt with raspberries/blueberries & flaked almonds
D - salad with veggie 'kebab' pieces

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2021 07:48

@purplegirl13 thank you. I'm okay but was really unwell over the weekend ( had to be in bed, so I was ill). I've been trying fodmap and I now know after last Friday that I am at least intolerant to and possibly allergic to, onions! I made kugel for DD for Hanukkah and had it with my usual parsnips and carrots plus a pork steak! So they are now out. I actually threw up and was just so ill after adding them to a meal that otherwise consisted of foods I know are okay. Last night we had an organic ready meal from Daylesford bought pre- fodmap and of course it must have contained a little onion and my tummy is churning. TMI
But you need to add in a new food to find out if you react. It's made me extremely nervous of eating. However, if you always eat the same stuff you are more likely to become intolerant.

Anyway, thanks to that I am now 8:11. Poor DD is really struggling and DH is knackered as he was full on duty with DD from Friday at 7pm until work started on Monday at 8 am. She suffers because he is noisy, talks, doesn't know stuff ( eg where anything is, what time she has her tablets, what food she can eat etc etc) and she has to find the energy to answer a million questions. But we are all taking it easy

Knittingnanny · 10/12/2021 10:19

@Sooverthemill that sounds horrid, hope you are on the mend.
I’ve abandoned strict calorie counting for a few weeks but have noticed before that when I do that I go straight back to white carbs!
I’ve had a sore throat for a few days so that’s helped so down the food intake a bit. One local granddaughter has tested positive again but it might be residual as we were told it can retest positive for up to 90 days.
Keep going everyone!
Ps how is our lovely little baby getting on?

purplegirl13 · 10/12/2021 13:35

@Sooverthemill I'm glad you're getting to find out your triggers though, but the discovery sounds unpleasant. You are making me consider whether I really should be trying fodmap as well. When you are better , can you write a sort of manual for DD so DH can take some pressure of you.

@Knittingnanny I'm the same, I've been trying to get back on track but it doesn't matter what I have meal planned I keep reaching for toast!

Now the bread is all gone, so we'll see what happens although I don't seem to have much of an appetite today (most unusual!)

B - nothing
L - crackers with houmous
D - tbc, am out to see a friend

I've quickly whizzed up a mushroom soup (to se them up) but really don't want to eat, I might be coming down with something

@neverenoughchelseaboots how are you and the little one getting on?
@Morningmaeve hope you're doing ok

neverenoughchelseaboots · 10/12/2021 14:36

Hello all,

Starting weight - 10st 5.1
Last week - 10st 3.3
This week - 10st 6.6 😮

I have been eating a lot of biscuits but I thought breast feeding would let me get away with it - clearly not! It's okay though, I know now that I've lost what was going to come off immediately and need to learn what's the right balance for surviving sleep deprivation and feeding whilst not piling weight on. I'd like to lose a couple of pounds a month so will work on finding what the right intake is.

I managed to get out for a short walk today, which is the most exercise I've done in months. Hoping to get some more In over the coming days.

We're doing just fine though, thank you. He's absolutely lovely, a very relaxed chap but does like to be held which is somewhat inconvenient at night time.

@Sooverthemill I can't think of a more inconvenient food intolerance than onions, there's very few meals I make that don't start with an onion.

@purplegirl13 it sounds like you're having a fab December out and about with friends. Can I live vicariously through you please?!

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 10/12/2021 15:58

@purplegirl13 yes, I did that. DH just doesn't take any notice. He has ADHD

purplegirl13 · 10/12/2021 17:53

@neverenoughchelseaboots absolutely :) I'm heading out on a new friend 'date' this evening. One of the datings apps I use has a 'friends' feature on it so I'm am meeting someone for drinks tonight (after 'chatting' online for a few weeks). I just realised I'm slightly nervous but am sure it'll be fine.Much easier than a proper date as I don't have to worry about finding the ever elusive chemistry and if I fancy them or not!

Morningmaeve · 11/12/2021 09:50

Hello all - I’m feeling a bit better mentally and I am trying to be kind to myself and focus on self care. I have shelved the conscious attempt to diet for the moment but trying to be mindful of what I’m eating and avoid mindless snacking. I didn’t know you could find new friends via an app @purplegirl13 - good luck with your meet-up. Enjoy your little one @neverenoughchelseaboots those newborn days go by so quickly. Hope you are feeling better @Sooverthemill. I think leek is a good substitute for onion if you can tolerate that? Waves to diet twin @Knittingnanny.

Sooverthemill · 11/12/2021 10:26

@Morningmaeve no I have to steer clear of all allium family : onions, leeks garlic all cause me pain. It's difficult to think of anything that would work instead!

purplegirl13 · 11/12/2021 12:01

@Sooverthemill have you heard of www.bbcgoodfood.com/glossary/asafoetida-glossary

I use it in dal dishes as it is meant to help with any digestion issues related to consuming legumes, but I know in India, those who follow the Jain religion use as as a substitute for onion/garlic as they do not eat them for religious reasons. It is stinky and you are only meant to use a pinch, I've only ever I used it in dals but might be worth a try? If you want, I am happy to pick some up for the Indian stores near me and post to you.

Knittingnanny · 11/12/2021 17:51

Waving back to you all! Just back from 4 year olds birthday party where I was on tea making duty, it also involved me eating quite a lot of children’s party snacks. Which now renders the healthy lamb casserole for tonight a bit pointless!

Sooverthemill · 12/12/2021 09:42

Yes I've heard of asafoetida and used it in Indian cooking before but it's very smelly and we wouldn't be able to have it in the house because DD is hypersensitive to smell ( among all her other sense hypersensitivities) and it would make her throw up. We have a limited number of foods we can have in the house because of this. I will just leave out onions and garlic. It's just food after all

Sooverthemill · 12/12/2021 09:44

But @purplegirl13 that is such a kind suggestion so please don't feel rejected. It's incredibly difficult navigating DDs illness and the way it's impacted on food. I miss fish and fried food and roast chicken!

purplegirl13 · 12/12/2021 10:44

@morningmaeve I had fun the other night, I think it was mutual(!). Being kind to yourself and being more mindful is good idea. I am doing the same, as realistically I'm not in the right head-space now to calorie count. I'm still not sleeping well at all so I want that to be my focus over the next few weeks.

@Sooverthemill not at all, it is a very stinky spice!

@Knittingnanny children's snacks are impossible to resist!

@neverenoughchelseaboots have you managed to get out for another walk?

For full transparency, I had little appetite on Friday so barely ate but did pick up a McDonalds on the way home (blame the wine!).
Yesterday, the same, I only ate an evening meal for the whole day. Most unlike me.

I'm off to a Japanese Christmas fair this afternoon so hoping my appetite will be back in order for me to partake in a tasty bowl of noodles or curry. They are running demo's on kimono dressing/fabric gift wrapping and will also be full of stalls of artists selling arts/crafts. Sounds interesting!

Have a good day everyone x

Knittingnanny · 12/12/2021 11:08

DH is going to the cinema this afternoon with his 2 big girls to watch the screening of Nutcracker ballet and then food afterwards so I’m going to buy some fancy bread and soup! We usually go together but both girls needed a treat so I’m going to stay at home and lay on the sofa and watch telly. I’ve woken up with a cold and feel wheezy but not going to take a pcr test as it’s less than 90 days since the last positive one which apparently can give a false positive.
Have a relaxing Sunday everyone

neverenoughchelseaboots · 13/12/2021 09:40

I'm making soup and realised I have no onions.

Cue getting the asafoetida from the back of the cupboard where it's been languishing for years. Thanks for finally giving it a purpose @purplegirl13 !

OP posts:
purplegirl13 · 13/12/2021 11:23

@Knittingnanny how are you feeing this morning?

@neverenoughchelseaboots I've only ever used it in Indian food, you'll have to let us know how it worked. It's definitely soup weather. What are you making? I made broccoli & stilton soup yesterday

B - greek yoghurt and raspberries
L - broccoli & stilton soup
D - tbd

Knittingnanny · 13/12/2021 14:41

But better today thank you, we are sitting in the car with our flasks of tea looking at the stormy Solent. Should add that I’ve eaten a big chunk of panetonne ( so??) and loads of pistachio nuts as well! I’m totally out of control, but didn’t actually eat much yesterday. That’s my excuse

neverenoughchelseaboots · 13/12/2021 14:54

The soup was gross @purplegirl13 😂. I don't think it was the asafoetida though. I think it was the lack of onion and that the homegrown leeks and pumpkin just weren't very flavoursome.

To make it worse, the making soup, cluster feeding newborn and entertaining DD was all a bit much to achieve at once and drove me to a mini breakdown. And the soup wasn't even worth it!

But I escaped to the post office alone for a bit and had a sneaky brownie at the same time, so feel a bit restored. I'm definitely not ready for calorie counting just yet.

Sooverthemill · 14/12/2021 09:19

Oh @neverenoughchelseaboots that sounds dreadful! I often retreat to my room when I am about to explode. DD has been very ill recently, worse than 'usual' and with my own poor health it's all a bit much. Dreading this coming weekend as the eldest two and partners are coming ( invited themselves) and I have to cook and clean and be bright and cheerful. And prob not eat any of the food! I've got a GP appointment next Monday when I am hoping to get her to start some tests. I am a little concerned it may not just be intolerances

Morningmaeve · 14/12/2021 13:25

Good to hear you’ve got a GP appointment @Sooverthemill - hopefully you can get some tests started and results will help help ease your mind. No news here… feeling okay and trying to eat well but mindfully.
B mushrooms and tomatoes on toast
L carrot and lentil soup with oatcakes - and another slice of toast :)
D mushrooms risotto (leftover from yesterday)
Bit of a mushroom overload but luckily I really like them!

purplegirl13 · 14/12/2021 15:02

@neverenoughchelseaboots oh that's so disappointing, and I'm sorry to hear it was a tough afternoon, but I'm glad a chocolate fix made things a little better.

@Sooverthemill I'm pleased to hear you've got a GP appt soon, so they can get the ball rolling with investigations.

hello to @Knittingnanny@Morningmaeve

B - greek yoghurt and blueberries
Ln- broccoli & stilton soup
D - chickpea/cauliflower curry and rice (if I can track down the curry in the freezer!)

purplegirl13 · 17/12/2021 09:27

Happy Friday Everyone!

I finally recharged the batteries for my bathroom scales, and I weighed this morning. 10st4.4 which I'm ok with, it means I am now down 4lbs from my starting weight in March and I've regained about 9lbs in the last few months.

This week has been a weird one, after not having an appetite last week, I'm now eating but feeling sick or getting sick sporadically. I'll keep an eye on it and go to the GP in the new year if needed. So for now, I'm sticking to white carbs for the next couple of days.

How is everyone else getting on?
