Hi.

Just wondering if anyone is doing Exante (or anything similar) currently. I have a few VLCD sachets in my kitchen cupboard and have ordered some bars. I’ll be starting Monday. Anyone else?

My starting weight is 18stone so I have to lose literally half my weight Blush.

@Helene2019

With the bank hol I forgot to do my weekly weigh in post. I think I'm now at the end of 4 weeks and so far down 7lbs with BMI loss of 1.3 points (now 27.2) so all slowly moving in the right direction. Although the nice weather is tempting me into BBQ mode Confused.
Have you managed to keep away? Well done on the weightloss
3Britnee · 02/06/2021 22:12

BG was 6.3 and weight was 12st 3lb 8oz this morning.

Helene2019 · 02/06/2021 22:31

@UpsyDaisysarmpit I gave into the BBQ but only had half a burger in bun with a massive salad. Enough to satisfy the craving.

Good to see the blood sugar coming down @3Britnee

3Britnee · 02/06/2021 22:37

Thanks. Well done on not having too much bbq!

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 02/06/2021 23:01

@3Britnee

BG was 6.3 and weight was 12st 3lb 8oz this morning.
That's great! Mine have been good since starting this diet! I'm hoping for a good hba1c result next time!

@Helene2019 that's good! I went to the Harvester earlier in the week and had a meal served with steamed green veg instead of chips, cutting almost 400 calories off. I am feeling it a bit today though as there seems to be food everywhere I look!

3Britnee · 03/06/2021 06:11

6.2 today but 12st 4lb 3oz 😡

WhoWants2Know · 03/06/2021 20:03

I feel like being tired makes a difference. If I have energy, I can just run around and not feel hungry. But if I'm tired then I just feel like feeding my face.

3Britnee · 04/06/2021 06:42

7.5 and 12st 4lb 8oz 🙄

All I ate yesterday was a cheesy omelette, (not a lot of cheese) & a couple of sausages. Small amount of tuna & mayo (tins of tuna here are 51g, so tiny). Chicken wings. But I did have a sugar free caffeine free coke with them. And a can in the morning.

I think I'm going to go back on products and just wait for my bg to come down through weight loss. Carnivore and keto obviously don't work for me anymore.

WhoWants2Know · 04/06/2021 07:40

I'm down 2 pounds this week for a total of 11 pounds. So it's slowing down but still going in the right direction.

3Britnee · 04/06/2021 10:44

I just tested again. 6.3. I think I'm taking it too early for my body and natural rhythms but you have to do it as soon as you get up, and I have to get up earlier to walk my dogs. I naturally wake up at 7/8 and I'm waking up at 6.

I'm going to do a couple of days of salad and soup to use up what's in my fridge 🙄 again and then get back on exante and stop messing about. I don't think carnivore is the right diet for me, I feel knackered and it's not doing anything for weight loss. Although inflammation has gone right down, I can see it in my fingers and ankles.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 04/06/2021 13:14

I'm feeling a bit sunnier today. Worked out that if you use a hand blender with the chocolate delight, it is smooth and plentiful. I am feeling good because I started at 18st exactly, and now my scales are in the high 15s 🥳. I have been struggling to lose since a virtual kerplunk of health issues since thyroid cancer in 2018. I feel wobbly at times at the vast task ahead of losing it, but then the thought of improved health and seeing it say 15 something today has encouraged me.

@3Britnee I tried like you about 18 months ago when first diagnosed, very low carb diet by eating meat, cheese, peanut butter etc. It got my hba1c down to 34, brilliant! But then they insisted I come off my metformin and it went back up to 66.
I've reached the conclusion that in order to be ever able to be in proper remission, the weight probably needs to come off.

3Britnee · 04/06/2021 13:26

@Upseydaisysarmpit well done 👏👏👏 that's an amazing loss.

I stopped taking metformin because it was recalled or something. I'm self managing it, which is why I want it in the 5's. It will get there, I just need to be consistent with an approach. I had a salad earlier, plenty of it and I weighed it, and logged it all on Samsung health, mayo, olive oil, lemon juice, all of it and it came in at 156 calories. I feel so much better already, than meat only, I was exhausted this morning.

I've been reading up on different diets for different blood groups and body types etc and I think the key for me is low calorie, low carb. Ultra clean.

I had to stop metformin as it really affected my guts, even the coated ones. I'm on gliclazide now
My hba1c was 87 when I started last month Confused
It's now 66 so another month or so and I should be ok.
It's always ridiculously high when I get up thanks to liver dump then down to about 7 when I get home from work. I've stopped the shakes as they're so high in sugar. Just porridge in the morning and a bar at lunch, then a small dinner.
Just 2lbs until my first stone is gone.

3Britnee · 04/06/2021 19:06

Babyshark, they have low sugar smoothies, that's what I've got, and a couple from the supermarket but those have the same figures as the ordinary milkshakes.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 04/06/2021 20:07

I'm not a fan though. I can never get the lumps out unless I'm at hone with access to my blender. Prefer the soups. Everything is sooooo sweet.

3Britnee · 04/06/2021 22:22

The smoothies are bitty-er than the normal ones so don't get those if you don't like the normal ones.

3Britnee · 05/06/2021 21:14

How's everyone getting on halfway through the weekend?

I was 12st 3lb 8oz this morning and my bg was 6.2. I just weighed this evening and was 12st 1lb 6oz, and I'm normally 3lb less in the mornings than the evenings 🤞

I did eat after 8pm so I don't know if that will have any effect on my bg tomorrow. I only had a bit of salad so it shouldn't.

Today has been an absolutely shit day, for other reasons, but I left the chocolate bar in my fridge alone and was almost tempted to order takeaway, but I wasnt even hungry when I thought about it.

3Britnee · 06/06/2021 05:45

12st 1lb 8oz. BG 5.8 👊💥

I just need to keep it there now.

peachesarenom · 06/06/2021 09:40

Hi everyone!

A big thank you to @3Britnee for letting me know you're all here!

  • and also congratulations for getting to 5.8!

I'm type 2, trying to get into remission, and also trying to get pregnant with my hopefully second lo. I'm trying the 'newcastle diet' after reading a book by professor Roy Taylor about reversing type 2.

It's using exante and 4 portions of veg each day, including dark green veg.

I started 1 and a bit weeks ago and have so far lost 5kg. It'll be two weeks on the coming Tuesday. I started at my biggest ever and was incredibly uncomfortable.

At the start I wasn't managing all three shakes but apparently that can lead to muscle loss so definitely trying to have all three now.

I'm on 1 metformin a day and through lockdown one I managed to keep my hba1c at 43 by carb pairing, so any carb had to be eating with fat. The lack of activity meant I put on weight though. Then lockdown three really floored me and I ate things I haven't eaten in years like several chocolate bars a day, biscuits!!!! Hba1c went up to 49!

I wouldn't say I'm enjoying the diet but it seems to be working so far. I found the 'newcastle diet' pdf online which has some sample recipes which are actually tasty so I'm hoping things are looking up!

I'm looking forward to being part of a group with people who know what it's like!

Helene2019 · 06/06/2021 14:32

I feel like loads has happened this week! Everyone is still losing the lbs 🎉 @UpsyDaisysarmpit over 2st lost and @Babysharkdoodoodood coming up to 1st lost.
@3Britnee congrats on the blood glucose levels and also loss.

I had a "woosh" week. Out of nowhere I've dropped 3lbs this week. I think the heat makes me not want to eat so I've been having salad rather than a hot meal in the evening. Normally I'm losing 1 and a bit lbs a week, so am very pleased with that. Total loss 8.5lbs and BMI down by 1.5 points to 27.0 🎉. Next goal in sight BMI 26.5.

3Britnee · 06/06/2021 22:45

Well done 👏

I had some coke zero earlier so hoping that doesn't mess with my readings tomorrow.

3Britnee · 07/06/2021 06:40

The coke/sweeteners didn't, 12st 0lb 6oz and 5.3 today 😁

I have to go for a meal on Thursday and stupidly chose Indian, intending to have 1 meal off plan but if I have rice or naan that will kick me right out of ketosis, and I'm doing well at the moment because I'm not hungry. Maybe I could just have the curry, cauliflower and onion bhaji's and that wouldn't be so bad.

25yearsnhsworker · 07/06/2021 11:05

Hi all
I have some exante shakes that I bought and didn't even have one.
I am 45 and weigh 18st and really worried about my health.I just binge on junk food.
I worry about the water intake as I work in the community and toilets are hard to find.
I am also worried about the headaches.
I realise I just need to go for it.
Will prob have salad at work for lunch as don't want to be asked questions and a shake at night time.

@25yearsnhsworker Start on a friday so you have the weekend for the peeing to regulate. If you don't drink enough water now, when you start, you will wee endlessly at first.

You can try to stop the headaches with a stock cube drink, the salts really help.

Do you have any health issues yet?
