Here's the video :)

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 16/03/2021 10:07

Can I just add that I’m so pleased this thread exists. As a shortarse you risk sounding like a twat moaning about being 9st 8lb or a Size 12 to people 5ft 8 or even shorter. Lots of people don’t realise the exponential effect of height. At my height and build I think a Size 12 is akin to a size 16 for someone of average height.

BunnyJumper · 16/03/2021 10:11

Thanks for welcoming me :)
I'll be back later, when I get a break from the kids!

It's great to have this group! X

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2021 10:14

At 9 stone 8lbs I had an apron you could hang on to @WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself, it was a delight! It's still there a bit but this might be more because of my c-section scar.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2021 10:24

Around the time I got married 6 years ago I was 7 stone 9lbs and when I told my colleague who is 5'11 she nearly had a heart attack! I think that's a BMI of about 20.9 for me, I was definitely thin but not emaciated looking.

If someone 5'11 was 7 stone 9 lbs they'd have a BMI of 14.9 which would be skeletal!

slipperyeel · 16/03/2021 10:27

Can I join? I am 5ft2 but much heavier than most of you. I was very ill a few years ago with psychosis and thanks to anti psychotics I went from 8st7 to 12 stone.
I am now much better and have been able to adjust my medication.

In November 2020 I was 11st12 and now weigh 10st9 which has moved me from obese to merely overweight!
I am not thinking any further at the moment than a BMI of 25 which I think is 9st10.
Hoping I can get there by June.

I stay between 1000 and 1200 calories a day mostly but I have a treat at the weekend.
It’s not a lot is it?

Sooverthemill · 16/03/2021 10:58

To introduce myself:
So I am 5'1 and a half. Today I weighed 9st 0.4 and last Tuesday the same. In October I was 8 st 10. At my lowest since having DD i was 8 st 4 and I did really like that but I would be very happy between 8 st 8-12 lbs. it's been tough having DH home all the time as when he was away for work I found it perfectly acceptable to have scrambled eggs on toast or soup for my dinner but he wants a decent dinner so although I'm trying to make healthy dinners, it adds up. DD has a chronic illness and has been very unwell for over 7 years during which I crept up from 8 st 7 to 9st 3 at my heaviest. I feel at my best under 9 and I am very concerned that I must stay healthy to look after DD who requires round the clock care ( she can't do anything for herself and she's almost 22 now). Since September last year she has been much much worse and my sleep ( and hers) has been very disrupted and when I'm tired my body tells me it's hungry! I weigh myself once a week on a Tuesday if I remember. I try to have nothing snacky in the house except hummus and oat cakes!

My main way of keeping the weight off is to not snack and to have 3 x similar sized not too high carb meals and I use the fist method to cal portion sizes.

Afishcalledwonderful · 16/03/2021 10:58

Loving this thread, thank you! I'm 5ft 2 and 10 stone 3. Would love to hover around 9 stone. I am small build with skinny limbs but perimenopause has got my middle 😩 just started hrt and already feeling better and have lost my ravenous appetite. If I eat any more than 1200 cals the weight starts to creep on. Having some carbs for lunch to propel me through the afternoon but protein and veg/salad only for dinners.

Sooverthemill · 16/03/2021 10:59

Oh and I'm post menopause and that has definitely made an impact on my tummy! I'm 62

modernfemininity · 16/03/2021 11:17

Lovely to read everyone’s stories.
Nice thread.

I worry about my general foxiness sometimes too @WithLoveGrin. I agree too, mid size and large women’s clothes is not great: we are small and need small clothes.

I (sort of) fasted yesterday to kick start a new regime this week and I lost a whole kilo overnight! I just had one small portion of prawn and sw-and-sour stirfry for supper, having not eaten all day. The sauce choice was wrong I know, but I ate with the family and they love family meals. Lunchtime I made them homemade macaroni and cheese and I went without. To not eat, you have to have a very strong will of iron in this house.

Going cold-turkey, like yesterday, is good for me. Now today is easier than last night.

Meal plan today:
B: Black Tea and Coffee (okay so far)
Snack: Raw carrots (love them) and have one peeled and warming. Cold from the fridge is not pleasing.
L: more prawn stir fry, small yogurt and fruit
Afternoon: tea with milk!!
D: Cod loin and cauli rice with oven roasted veg and tinned cherry tomatoes.

I buy huge, thick cod portions frozen and they are defrosting. Not cheap this dieting, is it! I definitely spend more when dieting, but then save on the vino I suppose. I still drink, just a bit slower.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 16/03/2021 11:25

@slipperyeel
I always think that it is particularly unjust when people’s medication causes weight gain. It must make it so much harder to lose which is a psychological kick in the guts.
It sounds like you have already done really well.

slipperyeel · 16/03/2021 11:30

Thanks @WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself - on my full dose I could eat literally nothing and still not lose weight. I wouldn’t have believed it if it hadn’t happened to me.
There needs to be more done about psychiatric medications and weight gain, psychiatrists act as if it’s an inevitability and it really shouldn’t be. Being obese has so many health implications which really don’t help anyone already trying to deal with a serious mental illness.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2021 11:33

@slipperyeel I gained 1.5stone on an SSRI, it's a bugger.

@Sooverthemill losing weight is so difficult when you're sleep deprived. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, you sound like an amazing mum.

newpup123 · 16/03/2021 11:50

Hi all can I join? My weight sounds fine to someone of normal height!

Currently 5ft 2 and 70Kg (11 stone). I know if I just get back to 66-67kg where I was last year I'll feel so much better. But it's sooo slow progress

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2021 11:52

Sorry to derail on mental health - but @slipperyeel I was the same! I was exercising 5 x a week, eating feck all and the scale wasn't budging. My GP swore blind that the medication had nothing to do with it [hmmm]

slipperyeel · 16/03/2021 11:58

@SwimmingOnEggshells - they always say it’s nothing to do with the meds, they should try it!

WellTidy · 16/03/2021 12:15

Wow - lovely to hear your stories and for this thread to be so active.

whoami24601 · 16/03/2021 13:13

I find 5:2 works for me because I'm an all or nothing person. I find it really hard to diet because it involves eating healthily and being hungry all the time (and lots of prep and expense!). My diet is not terrible as it is and I do cook a lot from scratch. My meals are absolutely fine but then I snack way too much! With 5:2 There's no willpower needed and if I'm struggling mentally it's so much easier if I only have one day to get through before I can have nice food again. I have my set meal on my fast days which means I don't have to think about it and plan too much.

FedNlanders · 16/03/2021 13:26

Welcome new posters!

I am 5ft 2 and weighed 10st 11 in January and currently weighing 9st 11.4 so it is going down. I am calorie counting but have had a few slip up days!

I am on sertraline and my doctor insists its u related but I only put on weight since starting it and my face is 3x the size!

BunnyJumper · 16/03/2021 14:05

Just wondering if anyone also has the problem of when they have been at a lighter weight (around 8st something) that they look gaunt and unwell?

My OH says that at 57kg I looked I'll, but I still had a fat bum and thighs!

Is it more about doing toning at that stage? Should I be looking to get down to 60kg ish but be toned to avoid losing weight on my face?

I'm 33, I'm flabby and I have 2 kids under 3.
I wish I could loan my body out to someone else who could fix it up for me and then give it back! 😅

Greycurtainswithdiamonf · 16/03/2021 14:11

Lovely thread. I’m just over 5ft, 52 years old and finding it hard to shift weight and keep it off at the graphs attached show.

I lost 4 kg between January and May last year. I was really pleased and felt much better.
I thought I’d fallen off the wagon at Christmas and then carried on eating sweet stuff. It’s true but clearly I slowly put on weight from August. And then really felt it from Christmas. BlushConfused

Good grief. None of you were actually huge from the outset, were you?
Most of you regulars sound like you’re around a size 14 at your max.
If I was a size 14, I’d be deliriously happy.
My problem is a massive droopy tummy. I look about 8 months pregnant sideways but not quite so bad from behind, as my bum is small in comparison.
I had a hernia OP a couple of years ago and weight just collects around my middle. I’m post menopause too.

I think I look like garden gnome. Sad

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2021 14:21

@BunnyJumper I think it depends on the shape of your face and how much fat you have on it naturally. My Dmum always tells me I start to look sick under 8 stone, I've quite an angular bone structure (think potentially witchy) so I reckon these days, as I'm almost 40, I couldn't go below 8.

Greycurtainswithdiamonf · 16/03/2021 14:34

VintageStitchers my BMI at the moment is 26.5 so overweight. If I carry on going on the line the graph I will get to obese and I’m trying to get a stable weight to avoid that. A couple of kg less than now and I feel much better.

BunnyJumper my friend says “Face or figure,” so I think depending on your face shape you have to get balance.

DayPyjamas · 16/03/2021 15:21

Can I join please? Gave birth 5 months ago and I'm the largest I've ever been in my life, bmi 25. spent mat leave stuffing my face on chocolate and biscuits which have been banned from my diet since last Saturday. I now need to get a grip on exercise 🏋️
