Ohhh I’ve found my people! Does anyone go gym? Today I had to stand on the seat to be able to reach the bar to do pull downs- so embarrassing!!

Knittingnanny · 13/06/2021 15:34

@MaybeCrazy2 no I’ve never been a gym girl, I do try and keep active as possible by walking and sometimes cycling. Up and down from the floor with grandchildren is the nearest I get to lifting weights.
Up to 3 years ago we used to go to modern jive twice a week but sadly it finished off my already arthritic knees.
My dh puts me to shame , he is 67 and is a gym regular, walks along the beach and back every morning, enjoys cycling and in normal times does tango, salsa and jive.
Despite that and eating a healthy diet he is actually a bit overweight and his cholesterol level is slightly raised.
Our bodies are such strange things!

purplegirl13 · 14/06/2021 13:06

@Sooverthemill it['s good you are trying to get the rest/naps when you can and I am pleased to see your update yesterday where you were able to have a lie in. Well done to your DS!

@Knittingnanny I hope you enjoyed your trip to the beach on Saturday. Did you resist the lure of the ice cream?

@MaybeCrazy2 welcome. I haven't been to the gym for a couple of years, but yes, I've had to stand on a seat to grab the bar for pull downs!

I had a lovely dinner out on Saturday - halloumi, courgette fritters, salad etc. Ate lightly during the day because tummy issues were getting better but wanted to be careful. Thankfully today is the last day for those antibiotics. I am back to the same turkish restaurant tonight so more of the same but will resist the bread (as it makes me bloated).

Today:
B - 1 crumpet
L - 1 crumpet with 2 scrambled eggs
S - some watermelon
D - halloumi, halloumi and more halloumi (possible some other stuff as well)

I have decided to not calorie count for the next few days - I will still be mindful but want a little breather from the constant counting.

I hope everyone is well

purplegirl13 · 15/06/2021 11:29

Stuck to plan yesterday, with the addition of an ice lolly.

My friends came to visit last night and stayed overnight, They are very close friends and until moving 2 hours away in Sept 2020 had always lived within a 10 min walk from me (for 15yrs). I hadn't seen them since Nov so a lovely treat, but feeling a bit sad now.

Today's plan:
Brunch - small portion of veg. biryiani with a fried egg
D - cauliflower rice with tempeh pieces, mushroom, spinach
Snack options: watermelon, greek yogurt with blackberries.

This is my first day tracking on MFP (for at least a week) and it feels very strange to not be counting calories

purplegirl13 · 15/06/2021 11:43

Oh, and I'm finally finished those horrible antibiotics! Although not being able to have wine during my dinners out has been beneficial calorie-wise.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/06/2021 11:44

Hi guys, hope you're all keeping well. I'm back at it now after nearly a week break. I haven't weighed myself but I'd say I've gained. There were many cocktails, prosecco, crisps, desserts etc etc. Feeling a bit more motivated which is good.

@MaybeCrazy2 i'm hoping to get back into spinning in a couple of weeks. Dying to get exercising again!

Knittingnanny · 15/06/2021 17:57

Now I’m 8.10/11/12 I’m going to stop religiously recording every calorie and have a go at mindful eating.
If I gain weight after a week or two I will know that it’s not working!
Yes I avoided the ice cream at the beach.
I’ve done 64 days of no sugar and now going to try the odd sweet treat.
Haha! It won’t work, I shall very quickly be back to being uncontrolled around chocolate I fear.
Exhausted now with the heat and busy playing this afternoon with the 3 year old. Mummy was at the health visitors having the baby’s 10 month check up. He weighed exactly the amount I’ve lost, 20 lbs! When I picked him up to see what it felt like it was really amazing.

Morningmaeve · 16/06/2021 07:31

I love that @Knittingnanny - I bet your grandson is heavy to carry around after a while and that really illustrates how much you have lost. I still haven't got under 9 stone but I am constantly surprised when I can wear clothes i couldn't last summer as I was more than a stone heavier.

Knittingnanny · 16/06/2021 07:56

@Morningmaeve yes he is! It really brings home to me that losing weight can only be helpful for my arthritic knees.
Last day of sunshine here apparently so I’m planning on cycling down to the beach to meet a friend later.
Hope it’s nice weather where you all are so we can all wear our nicest summery clothes! Best clothes every day ladies don’t save anything for “ best” is one of my mottos.

WellTidy · 16/06/2021 09:48

Morning all.

I am really struggling with my commitment levels right now. I'm barely tracking what I eat and so I have gained a pound since last week. Its been super hot (though that is due to change tomorrow) and I have not wanted to cook. So I've eaten snacky things and then more of them, plus ice creams and a pudding extra drinks when we've met up with friends.

Its all been absolutely lovely, but I'm really off track.

I have some time off work over the summer, starting at the end of next week, so I've joined the gym (haven't been in about ten years) and I'm going to try beginners pilates (I haven't done a class in about 25 years) and swimming to start off with. And see how I go. I'm hoping that will reset my frame of mind.

I'm disappointed with myself that I've lost only about a pound since Easter, when I'd been doing so well.

@Knittingnanny a cycle to the beach sounds fabulous. Enjoy. Another thing that I haven't done for about 15 years - ride a bike!

@Morningmaeve I too am loving being able to wear more of my summer wardrobe. Its really motivating.

@SwimmingOnEggshells Glad you had a lovely break

@purplegirl13 Glad you're off the antibiotics too

@Sooverthemill I'm glad that you were able to have a lie in and some time to yourself. Flowers from one carer to another

@ILikePizzaAndWine the salmon traybake was lovely. I have added it to my repertoire!

Hello to everyone else

Sooverthemill · 16/06/2021 09:56

@WellTidy I love Pilates . I've not done a class now since lockdown ( actually just a coincidence) as my teacher has moved . Probably wouldn't be bake to get there at the moment. Good luck, it's a fab decries to learn. I've been struggling with DD who we think either has bad side effects from second vaccination a week ago or actually has Covid new strain. GP thinks she has and wants me to monitor and will come out if she worsens or I can call for antibiotics ( chest infections are a big risk for her). Had very late night and a huge lie in today which was great.
Well done everyone else. It's nice to hear from you all

Weighed myself today as I didn't get a chance yesterday and am 8:12:6 which I'm pleased with. Just not snacking and only eating my meals and being slightly sensible with portions. So last night a 100g home made beef burger, 100 g McCain spicy wedges and huge tomato and cucumber salad. DH had at least twice as much probably more! But I do not feel deprived, today is a smaller portion of Thai chicken curry ( Charlie bigham who I really recommend): I just serve myself .8 of the portion size on the pack and add tons of veg. DH has his share and then pudding! He's biking to the beach and swimming everyday!

WellTidy · 16/06/2021 10:36

@Sooverthemill I wish you and your DD the best. I'm glad you have a plan for your DD. I hope you think you're getting a good level of GP support given the circumstances, you must be so worried. A lie in will help you deal with the day ahead, I'm sure. My DS2 has classic ASD and learning difficulties and sensory issues and food issues. Every day has its challenges, but we have a great nanny which makes such a difference to what I can do during the day. Today is a working day (believe it or not!) and I am fortunate that I can work part-time, and that he can go to school, despite his high level of need. It must be so much harder for you with your DD's illness.

Sooverthemill · 16/06/2021 12:59

Thank you @WellTidy yes I had to give up work. Our GP practice is very good and supportive and we have an allocated practice nurse who helps us a lot and can be texted for advice 24/7 pretty much ( she came out on Boxing Day once as she happens to live close). When DD was younger ( she's 22 and became this sick aged 14) I had a terrible time juggling nannies, child carers etc as DD has rarely managed more than 50% school attendance with loads of health issues but no one ever picked up that she must have had ME then. The list of her conditions is long and although each may sound minor ( oral allergy syndrome, cyclic vomiting syndrome, severe asthma, severe eczema as a few) adding in POTs, very severe ME, ehler danlos, endometriosis and now probable lupus/sjogrens it's hard work. I do everything for her. Most days she can manage to clean her own teeth and maybe wash hands but eating is a nightmare and brings me to tears. Her pain is dreadful at present and in the night I almost called 999 as it was scary. But today her pain levels are 'normal'.

I used to train health and social care staff in asd awareness btw. I've had a varied freelance career working around DDs needs. It never occurred to me she would get so bad

WellTidy · 16/06/2021 13:25

@Sooverthemill Your poor DD. What a lot she has to contend with. And what an enormous change you’ve all gone through over the last eight years. I am so sorry that life is so tough for your DD and what this has meant to you. You just be on your knees. I think back to when Ds2 was a baby and we had no idea what was to come. I see our lives as very much a before ASD became apparent and after. I have trouble looking back at photos of us ‘before’ when we didn’t know what life had in store. I find it very emotional indeed and struggle to talk about it to friends and family, most of whom have no idea what day to day life is like as they only see snapshots, or shy away from understanding our reality as they, I don’t know, feel uncomfortable, I suppose.

I wish things were different for you and I hope that there are better times ahead.

Xxx

purplegirl13 · 17/06/2021 11:42

@SwimmingOnEggshells welcome back, hope you had a lovely break!

@Knittingnanny it's great to have the tangible proof of the weight you've lost in the form of a baby!

@WellTidy I know you're annoyed about how little you've lost since Easter, but try to remember where you've come from and where you were at the start of the year. You are doing so well and it's only natural we are all struggling as we are socialise more. I think you have the right idea in upping exercise to rest your mindset and get you back on track.

@Sooverthemill how is your DD doing today? and you?

everyone else hope you are hanging in there.

It is my birthday today and I'm trying not to use it as an excuse to go 'wild' Wink so breakfast has been greek yogurt/berries, and lunch will be leftovers (cauliflower rice with veggies/tempeh pieces).

Dinner however will be takeaway pizza and my 'cake' will be M&S salted caramel profiteroles. I'm heading over to my mum's late afternoon for the early dinner so at least I won't have all the pizza to myself.

I did have a massage booked for this morning but the therapist had to cancel due to injury, so I'm going to have lovely day home alone with some netflix, a good book and a couple of calls with my international friends.

I have calorie counted since Monday and it feels so weird!

purplegirl13 · 17/06/2021 11:44

*haven't calorie counted

WellTidy · 17/06/2021 11:47

Happy birthday @purplegirl13! Sounds like you have a lovely day planned. Enjoy.

Knittingnanny · 17/06/2021 11:55

@purplegirl13 happy birthday! I like the sound of the salted caramel profiteroles, I may have to try them.
Didn’t cycle as my bike was behind 3 others in the shed and Dh still elsewhere painting so I drove instead.
Although I’m not calorie counting I think I’m probably not going over 1400/1500 so hopefully that will either maintain or eventually get me to my pre baby weight of January 1982 8 stone 8lb ( I think! It’s a long time ago!)
Hopefully I will get back to cycling again after this rainy blip in the weather. Is it raining where you all are today?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/06/2021 11:59

Happy birthday fellow gemini! I hope you have a lovely day xx

neverenoughchelseaboots · 17/06/2021 22:42

Happy birthday @purplegirl13

I may not be slimming anymore but DH wants to lose a stone so I'm calorie counting for him. It's somehow lovely and familiar and I feel like I should start a spreadsheet and log his Friday weigh ins here 😂. I don't think he makes the height criteria though!

Still enjoying reading everyone's updates, especially those when you've tipped below the 9 or 10 stone mark.

Almost at 1,000 posts - we're going to need a new thread. Get us.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, I had a lovely day - lots of birthday wishes and some very thoughtful gifts from friends. I felt very loved.

The salted caramel profiteroles were out of stock so had regular ones which were lovely. If you are a profiterole fan, M&S have the best ones in my opinion.

I am pleased to note I have maintained this week at 9st 12.6lbs! Very happy with that given I've had 2 meals out, and a takeaway dinner this week, plus I've not tracked calories since Monday. The lack of wine calories have helped.

Today:
B - small amount of greek yogurt/honey (need to buy groceries)
S - glass of coconut kefir drink
L - cheese, crackers and prosecco
D - tbc

The cheese was a birthday gift, a goats cheese made with double cream and creme fraiche so very creamy - ideally paired with champagne so I'll be having prosecco with my lunch. It'd be rude to not follow the advice given Smile
