Another shortie here wondering if I can join? So much inspiration here. I am 53, 5'1" and 8 10lb. Previously fine-boned looking I now have a roll of fat around my middle and pudgy arms. I dread trying on my summer clothes. I realise my metabolism has slowed since the menopause, so how many calories should I be eating, and does anyone do exercise from classes online? I need to be more disciplined about walking and yoga but something different would be good when time is short.

humptydumpty21 · 02/04/2021 11:20

Really trying to see 8 stone something on scales. Hasn't moved from 9.1 for weeks now. Anyone have suggestions to give it a little nudge? I IF most days and walk 4 miles.

We had a gorgeous takeaway last night (Lebanese) to celebrate our anniversary, plus a couple of glasses of wine and two hotel choc chocs so now I'm a pound heavier this morning! Still have quite a lot of leftovers too Blush

WellTidy · 02/04/2021 11:24

humpty I hate to say it, as I think this is the way I will probably have to go too, but you may need to try doing more intense exercise. Something that gets the heart rate up. Or maybe see what happens if you cut out something eg carbs or booze (if you’re not already). Worth a go?

You’re 6lb lighter than me at the same height (I’m only three years younger) and I think it’s common to get to 9st and struggle.

humptydumpty21 · 02/04/2021 14:08

welltidy thank you - I completed a 15 min HIIT for 1st time in years. I've given up alcohol for lent and have seen my weight drop from 9.9 so going well but plateaued. Will report back next week (have to be very sensible with the Easter eggs!)

Zoomoff · 02/04/2021 20:39

I've written off the last week or so and planning to get back on track next Tuesday. I get very painful periods which leave me absolutely drained for a few days so haven't done much walking this week. Ironically, I know that exercise will help the period pains, but I just feel too weak and meh to walk an 8 stone dog very far. Food hasn't been good either. I've kept to under 1700 calories most days but all on crap food - hardly any fruit or veg. This happens every month. I'm 50 and been peri-menopausal for a few years but my hormone levels are ok'ish so not on HRT or anything. Had a really long walk in local woods today though and took the higher path which is harder work and longer. I've maintained my weight for the last couple of weeks (related to my cycle maybe?) but had lost a pound this morning.

BasilLeaf · 03/04/2021 06:39

I’m so happy! Just weighed myself, 9st 1 down from 9st 3.4 last Saturday. I know it’s the first week blah blah blah but I’m still delighted Grin

FedNlanders · 03/04/2021 07:33

Well done :)

I had Easter egg and takeaway last night. So no weighing yet

TheProvincialLady · 03/04/2021 08:41

Congratulations Basilleaf

zoomoff I get exactly the same feeling as you with my period. And I also hold onto loads of water at that time so look and feel terrible. at least you’ve lost a lb, that’s great.

Sooverthemill · 03/04/2021 09:36

I was reasonably sensible yesterday even with my birthday and didn't snack at all. Did have a special lunch ( with a few Greek style things) but nothing big. Had 3 course dinner though and one glass of wine. Today will be back to my usual 3 small meals! it's our DDs birthday on Monday and DS who is a professional artisanal baker is going to drop off vegan doughnuts for DD . Luckily they won't also be gluten free so I will be jealous but not tempted!

Sooverthemill · 03/04/2021 09:37

@humptydumpty21 what's worked for me in the last is to j crease calories for a few days then drop them again. It kind of reboots

humptydumpty21 · 03/04/2021 10:39

So happy belated birthday. Thank you for your advise, makes me feel less guilty increasing over Easter. Wish me luck.

Knittingnanny · 03/04/2021 11:04

I’m having 2 days off calorie counting for Easter but will still try to be mindful about what goes into my mouth. It has to be worth the extra calories!

Knittingnanny · 03/04/2021 11:09

One Asda extra special range hot cross bun without butter is 193 calories and it definitely didn’t feel worth it so having eggs on toast instead for my breakfast/ lunch in a bit
Off to the beach at 2 to legally meet up with 2 lots of children/grandchildren and will buy them all an icecream but not tempted myself so will enjoy a homemade shepherds pie later
It’s the 7-9pm slot when I weaken! Had a big spoonful of Nutella to try and stop the cravings, I don’t even like Nutella. It all seems so ridiculous that even aged 64 I haven’t managed to work out mindful eating
Still, I’m happy to be slowly getting there with my target weight.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

purplegirl13 · 03/04/2021 11:50

Quick update from me as forgot to weigh in yesterday. I have lost 0.8lb this week taking me to 10st5.2

I have had more carbs than expected this week and a few high cal days so am planning to have a low calorie day today and tomorrow just to get myself back on track. I've dug out the weights so will do some strength exercises later today.

B - nothing
L - salad with hummus and kimchi
D - egg fried cauli rice or noodle dumpling soup

@SwimmingOnEggshells how are you getting on?

For those of you surrounded by children, Easter eggs etc - enjoy the weekend and get yourself back on track from next week.

Happy weekend everyone x

purplegirl13 · 03/04/2021 12:03

@neverenoughchelseaboots I think I will aim for one bottle a week after 10th April. I had been successfully doing that from the start of the year, it made me a bit more mindful of if I actually wanted the wine,.

Lovely gesture from work on the chocolate but I feel your pain - can you give some away to friends/family?

WellTidy · 03/04/2021 17:14

Oh dear lord. I’ve had a proper blow out today - I’m already at 2500 calories. Huge meal round at my PILs garden, and Easter egg for breakfast. This is the equivalent of at least two days’ food for me, and I’ve only walked 3.5 miles today.

I will take tomorrow off too, and just enjoy.

The Dc have had masses of chocolate and so we will indulge today and tomorrow, and then put the rest to one side so that we don’t overindulge every day.

Same. Had macdonalds and Easter egg. I feel like its fine and I will go back to normal on Monday. Just no weighing Grin

Will be going with this approach I think! Already had 2mini water eggs literally shoved in my mouth by DD who just wants to share her spoils.
But I'm cutting myself off on the hot cross buns because I'm up to 3 since Thursday (Sunday now where we are). I'm all for some indulgence but the breadiness is playing havoc with my gut!
DH is currently packing up the necessities for us al to go on a bush walk. Very glad about this as it will a) help me meet my step count and b) distract me from the remaining hot cross buns!
Decided no weigh ins until wednesday morning.

spottygymbag · 03/04/2021 22:50

Ugh- so many typos!

Whatwouldnanado · 04/04/2021 08:21

I've upped my exercise, trying to walk at least a mile a day on top of my usual activity. It seems Facebook knows about my new muffin top and I am being bombarded with ads for Provitalize. Has anyone tried it? Sceptical but slight tempted!

Sooverthemill · 04/04/2021 09:51

I do agree that if you've 'slipped' over the weekend or indeed on any day, you just need to let it go and start afresh the next day ( if you want to). I'm letting myself have a piece of DHs Easter egg after dinner tonight and as it's DDs birthday tomorrow there may be a fancier than usual lunch but then on Tuesday I'm back to no snacks.

TheProvincialLady · 04/04/2021 14:06

I’m making a big roast dinner today, with clafoutis for pudding, so although I will eat more vegetables than roast potatoes, I can’t see much weight loss happening when I weigh in tomorrow. That’s ok though, as long as I pick up again in the morning and don’t turn in into a bit excuse to give up.

modernfemininity · 04/04/2021 16:39

I am having a day off (or a week off?) trying to lose. I could do with losing again, but I am doing okay-ish at 8 stone 3lbs having lost a lot of weight in lockdown. I have regained close to half a stone though and my jeans are getting tight again so I will work on it next week.

Cannot wait to have fellow maintainers with me - so you lot, be as good as you can be AFTER the Easter celebrations ....but for the time being, enjoy it all and don’t feel guilty.

When losing, I enjoyed lovely family celebrations, and then got right back ON IT the next day.

I've just spent the morning setting myself up to not fail for the week. I have prepared 3x lunches and snacks for work days (I have Fridays off), and prepped as much as possible for three breakfasts.
My downfall is letting myself get too busy and then I end up making bad food choices or just snacking throughout the whole day.
This week I have made a vermicelli salad and chicken breast for lunches.
Breakfast will be a hard boiled egg mashed with whole grain mustard and grated carrot on a piece of whole grain toast. DH thinks it sounds awful but I've always liked it.
I've also soaked some chia seeds and mixed it into measured-out yoghurt for afternoon snacks.
What's everyone else planning for the week?
