Fitbit Friends-anyone up for a Fitbit challenge?

FlatteredFool · 09/03/2021 23:17

I'm loving my Fitbit and get such a sense of achievement from all the stats. I don't run or do anything exciting, I just walk and am lucky to live in a hilly place so I tend to get plenty of floors into my daily goals. I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me and sharing their Fitbit goals and achievements to encourage ourselves and others? I'm not familiar with the challenges on the app as have no real life friends to do this with and am aware it might be a privacy issue so maybe we could share daily goals and achievements by screenshot or free text or however.

My goals are:

Steps 10,000
Floors 25
Active minutes 30
Distance 3 miles

My stats for today are:

Steps 20,097
Floors 81
Active minutes 125
Distance 8.28 miles

The school run is 5 miles at a minimum and today I've taken a longer route on the way home both times but gone the quick way there. There's big hills involved and I live in a town house so floors are fairly easy to come by. I don't drive so walk everywhere which helps too.

Please come and join me for an active Spring! If anyone knows how to do the challenges/trophies thing and remain anonymous then please let me know.

I'm going to be sitting at a desk all day today and tomorrow so will be lucky if I hit 5k 😭😭. No judgement! Good luck everyone 😊.

Puddock1 · 16/03/2021 07:48

Thanks for adding me to the Fitbit group. Good luck with the steps today.

Huggybear16 · 16/03/2021 10:07

Has your exercise step arrived yet @Jumpers268 ?

Jumpers268 · 16/03/2021 14:37

@Huggybear16 yes it arrived today!! Not had a chance to open the box yet! If you have any go to YouTube videos please let me know 😊😊.

Huggybear16 · 16/03/2021 15:23

There are loads on YouTube Jumper. I just type "beginner's step aerobics" into the YouTube search bar. Don't have any particular favourites - I've made my way through the first 20 or so videos that come up.

Jumpers268 · 16/03/2021 18:19

Oh that'll help with my steps! I'm knackered after today but walked to the shops (for wine) after I finished work. Feeling better for it 🙈😂. Hope you've all had a good day 😊.

Stronghold · 16/03/2021 18:21

I've twisted my ankle! Damn!!

I'm definitely out this week.

But I will cheer on the rest of you - go team go!

OneLastThing · 16/03/2021 20:02

Hi can I join too? I'm not anywhere near some of your stats but if @Stronghold has a duff ankle I might have a chance! Grin ( sorry I hope it's not too painful)

I managed to do 10k steps today without leaving the house as was cleaning and scrubbing so does that count as a win still?

Huggybear16 · 16/03/2021 20:15

Of course OneLastThing!
Are you using a Fitbit or other activity monitor? Everyone has really upped their game today, I think this will really help keep us motivated.

Glad your step arrived Jumper! One complete step (one foot up, other foot up, one foot down, other foot down) registers as 4 steps on the fitbit. So doing 25 step reps gives you 100 steps. I've been doing some morning and evening and I've noticed a big jump in my numbers. I've managed to hit 30k on two days - both exercise step heavy. Bum and thighs firmer already. My legs also feel stronger, so definitely feeling benefits from using this.

Sorry to hear about your ankle Strong, hope it heals quickly.

I'm away to do some step exercises now before I have a shower. FlatteredFool has been overtaking me all day Grin

Stronghold · 16/03/2021 20:27

Biscuits help ankles to heal, right? I'm sure I've read that somewhere...

WhatILoved · 16/03/2021 21:29

I'm in awe of how many steps you guys do. I'm a childminder with an outdoorsy set up so often have two trips to park and obvs the school run on foot but don't get anywhere near you guys! I only get near 18-20000 when I do a morning run. Well done!

OublietteBravo · 16/03/2021 21:31

I’m on 16125 steps for today. I just can’t get close to 20000 on a work day.

Jumpers268 · 16/03/2021 21:35

I'm on 12000 today (work day). I normally only hit 4-5k on a work day but I've really pushed it today. If I hit above 10k on any day I'm chuffed but this thread is definitely pushing me 😊.

OneLastThing · 16/03/2021 21:54

I've got a Fitbit and would love to join in the challenge if there's space? I used to do them a while ago but if I wasn't quick enough to accept it was always full Hmm

I'll def be down the lower end but competition always helps doesn't it

MiddlesexGirl · 16/03/2021 22:09

I struggle to get 10k so no chance of meeting that challenge - I ran 5 miles today and that was only just 10k steps. And I just don't do any other moving around in terms of steps at the moment, only averaging around 40k steps per week. I'm not especially bothered though as I've got a decent resting heart rate and apparently excellent cardio fitness for my age.

However what I am intrigued by is the 'floors' mentioned. I dont seem to have anything which measures elevation on my app so where is it lurking?

Huggybear16 · 16/03/2021 22:53

Well done @Jumpers268, 12k when you thought you'd do 5k is great!

@OneLastThing once a challenge has started on the app I don't think you add more people, but we will start another as soon as it's finished. There will be space as there's not many people in the group. If anyone else wants to join then just let us know your username, either here or by PM.

@MiddlesexGirl I've no idea how floors are measured. That's my worst one, I never do very many. Today was my best at 25, but usually it's less than 10. I'm in a flat so no stairs in my place.

I don't think it really matters if you can't manage X amount of steps. I think if you can improve on your own "normal" then that's a great achievement. Don't worry about where you are on the board - we all have different goals, different fitness levels and varying amounts of free time. Improve on your own average and you're winning.

FlatteredFool · 17/03/2021 07:24

@Huggybear16 how the heck are you getting so many steps in?!

Floors are climbed are measured by each rise of 10ft I think. My record is 125. That's living somewhere hilly and in a townhouse. I'm not sure why it's not coming up on your app. Can you post a screenshot of what your app screen looks like?

@FlatteredFool I'm making a real effort. I'm doing a lot of unnecessary walking, as well as step exercises morning and evening. I'm also up at 5am every day so usually manage a fair amount before I leave the house at 8:15am.

I have recently stopped smoking so I'm trying to keep my steps up to mitigate any potential weight gain. I'm exercising when I am craving a cigarette - quite a lot right now. I don't think this is sustainable in the long term, but I'm trying everything I can to stay away from the cigarettes until my cravings subside.

You're doing great!

Puddock1 · 17/03/2021 07:40

@MiddlesexGirl which Fitbit do you have? Some models don't record floors so might be worth checking that.
Well done again with the steps! The leaderboard is looking really healthy!

Jumpers268 · 17/03/2021 07:55

@Huggybear16 your steps are incredible. I'm on back to back team meetings today but I'll try and make up for it tomorrow! Have a great day all!

Huggybear16 · 17/03/2021 07:59

Thank you @Jumpers268
For the first time in 35 years, I'm actually motivated to be healthier. I hope I can carry on in my journey to be a non-fat, non-lazy, non-smoker.
Good luck today everyone.

OneLastThing · 17/03/2021 08:28

I'm sat here with a coffee feeling knackered just reading it though this!Grin

Who is best to pm my email address to?

Huggybear16 · 17/03/2021 10:21

I'm online just now @OneLastThing
I can add you. Glad to have you join us!

OneLastThing · 17/03/2021 11:25

Great I've sent you a message.. best get my butt in gear!

FlatteredFool · 17/03/2021 14:13

I'll be taking the shorter walk back from school today as my legs are aching this week and I'm very tired. Tomorrow and Friday we will meander through the woods a lot as we hdd was e more time but today is straight home.
