Fitbit Friends-anyone up for a Fitbit challenge?

FlatteredFool · 09/03/2021 23:17

I'm loving my Fitbit and get such a sense of achievement from all the stats. I don't run or do anything exciting, I just walk and am lucky to live in a hilly place so I tend to get plenty of floors into my daily goals. I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me and sharing their Fitbit goals and achievements to encourage ourselves and others? I'm not familiar with the challenges on the app as have no real life friends to do this with and am aware it might be a privacy issue so maybe we could share daily goals and achievements by screenshot or free text or however.

My goals are:

Steps 10,000
Floors 25
Active minutes 30
Distance 3 miles

My stats for today are:

Steps 20,097
Floors 81
Active minutes 125
Distance 8.28 miles

The school run is 5 miles at a minimum and today I've taken a longer route on the way home both times but gone the quick way there. There's big hills involved and I live in a town house so floors are fairly easy to come by. I don't drive so walk everywhere which helps too.

Please come and join me for an active Spring! If anyone knows how to do the challenges/trophies thing and remain anonymous then please let me know.

Oh I've worked it out. Set it so my username is the same as on here 😊😊.

FlatteredFool · 14/03/2021 20:30

@Huggybear16 OMG how many steps!!!

@FlatteredFool @Huggybear16 the pair of you have put me to shame this week hahaha.

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 20:32

You won't regret it Jumpers! I love mine. I can totally notice a change in my legs and bum already, and my legs are stronger too. I was also excited about getting mine so you're not alone. You are doing very well for steps already - you'll have record steps in no time. Although, looking back on the walking thread on the app, someone did over 100k steps in a day! I don't think I will ever manage that - I'm not going to try either. I have been moving constantly today since about 6am and have done 28k so I've no idea how anyone could manage 100k.

WhatILoved · 14/03/2021 20:33

Happy for folks to add me. Use my username which is same

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 20:33

I'm just short of 150k for the week. I think 150k will be my target next week. Disclaimer: I've been on my exercise step every single day.

JamieNotJames · 14/03/2021 20:35

Those of you who are achieving over 20k per day how are you doing it?
Do you have pretty active jobs or are you consciously trying to keep moving?

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 20:35

The only reason I've hit 100k is because of this thread. I thought, I will hit 100k. It'll be more difficult next week as I've got work but I'm thinking (hoping) I should be able to still hit it with the exercise step. I'm definitely aching today so it's obviously making a difference!

orchidsun · 14/03/2021 20:37

Can anyone tell me how good fitbits are and if they have made a difference to your health since getting one? I keep pondering but not sure if they are just a bit gimmicky.

orchidsun · 14/03/2021 20:37

PS sorry I don't mean to derail!

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 20:37

Changed my username to MN username too.

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 20:38

@JamieNotJames hitting above 20k is tough I've found. I'm having to really consciously keep moving. Walking unnecessarily essentially.

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 20:39

@orchidsun I LOVE mine! I'm walking way more since getting one. I also really love that I can see who's calling / messaging me on it without looking at my phone.

I have found mine quite motivating, I just bought a basic one secondhand off of eBay though! If you don't think you'll use a lot of the functionality aside from step counting and sleep tracking then I'd recommend just an entry level one. I have the Alta and it was £10 on eBay and works fine :)

I'll PM please with my username when I figure out what it is!

FlatteredFool · 14/03/2021 20:40

I go the long, longer way on the school run and am generally up and down all day I need to be more organised this week and leave earlier in the afternoon so that I can go the long way to collect ds too.

Also @Huggybear16 100k in a day???!! How many miles is that??? That's insane.

FlatteredFool · 14/03/2021 20:46

@orchidsun I love mine! I walked a lot anyway but I've found it really motivating to beat my usual steps. The reminder to move at ten to the hour is handy if you're slacking but if I'm tired I tell it to sod off Grin The sleep analysis is really interesting and I love all the badges you can earn. I got my New Zealand badge today which is 990 lifetime miles. I got my Fitbit last June so that's good going I think. I got a new floors badge this week too. Rollercoaster or something for 125 floors in one day.

zzizzer · 14/03/2021 20:47

I like the sleep information but am not really sure how accurate it is. Its listed me as being wide awake for long sections of time when I wasn't before now, so I assume I was flailing around or something Grin

Does anyone else see their resting heart rate rise as they hit a period and fall to the lowest point during ovulation?

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 20:48

The joy I get when it vibrates because I've achieved something (floors, steps etc) 🙈😂😂😂.

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 20:48

I love my Fitbit. I have only had it a few weeks, but it has been my motivation for getting active.

To get more than 20k steps a day is an effort - fairly physical job, exercise at home, keeping track through the day and doing some steps if I'm behind. Single parenting a 4 year old also contributes a fair amount.

And yes, have a look at the "walking" page. She did 100k steps in one day back in January. She must have ran the entire day - I don't see how that would ever be possible for the majority of us.

zzizzer · 14/03/2021 20:52

https://blog.fitbit.com/100000-steps/

Well that's made me feel inept in comparison Grin

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 20:56

50 miles. Flippin' heck. I wonder if it vibrates when you hit 100k in a day. What my life has come to hahaha.

zzizzer · 14/03/2021 20:56

And this one made me feel a little better in terms of "nope, I don't want that"!

Puddock1 · 14/03/2021 21:19

Fitbit fan here too! @FlatteredFool I'm the same as you and rack up a lot of steps doing nursery and school runs. I also try to do one big morning walk a week when the kids are not home. Normally pretty lazy at weekends though so could do with some motivation on that front! If it's okay for me to add your usernames that would be brilliant!

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 21:33

Well that guy is a fitness fanatic and even he struggled with the 100k. I'm doing this to improve my body, not destroy it! We can do some challenges soon, the more the merrier. Starting the Fitness Bingo with my sister tomorrow. My first ever challenge, so wish me luck.
