Fitbit Friends-anyone up for a Fitbit challenge?

FlatteredFool · 09/03/2021 23:17

I'm loving my Fitbit and get such a sense of achievement from all the stats. I don't run or do anything exciting, I just walk and am lucky to live in a hilly place so I tend to get plenty of floors into my daily goals. I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me and sharing their Fitbit goals and achievements to encourage ourselves and others? I'm not familiar with the challenges on the app as have no real life friends to do this with and am aware it might be a privacy issue so maybe we could share daily goals and achievements by screenshot or free text or however.

My goals are:

Steps 10,000
Floors 25
Active minutes 30
Distance 3 miles

My stats for today are:

Steps 20,097
Floors 81
Active minutes 125
Distance 8.28 miles

The school run is 5 miles at a minimum and today I've taken a longer route on the way home both times but gone the quick way there. There's big hills involved and I live in a town house so floors are fairly easy to come by. I don't drive so walk everywhere which helps too.

Please come and join me for an active Spring! If anyone knows how to do the challenges/trophies thing and remain anonymous then please let me know.

I have a desk job too - currently WFH all the bloody time - when will it end? I actually feel better for heading out - even if it is just once round the block (which is 1km or ~1500 steps). I think everyone can set whatever target they want though - it’s not like there are ‘rules’ regarding this.

I just got a FitBit a few weeks ago. I'm still getting used to it, but I'd love to join in for some challenges!

I really want to get fit. I am so very unfit and generally unhealthy, but I've made some changes over the last few weeks and am suprised by how motivating the FitBit is!

I didn't make any changes the first week. I wanted to see how (un)fit I actually was. One of the days I did less than 2,000 steps and several nights I slept only 2-3 hours. No wonder I felt so crap.

I would like to be slimmer and more toned, but fitness is my real motivation. I have set a goal weight but am concentrating on moving more right now, and will make some dietary changes a little later on.

I'm will mainly be exercising at home, with the exception of outdoor walks. I've got an exercise step, resistance bands and some light ankle weights. I can't wait to be fit and strong!

Also, I'd be happy to be your "FitBit Friend" if you want to do some of those challenges. I quite like the Fitness Bingo and will be starting that with my sister tomorrow. You can PM me with your username/email address if you are interested.

Sansaplans · 14/03/2021 18:59

Is there a way to do a weekly challenge on the app without sharing personal details? I'm in one with work and it's really motivating, would like to join another but not sure of the info shared and whether be appropriate from an online forum! Does anyone know?

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:08

I think you can be found with just your username - then the only details that are shared are average steps and challenge progress. Your name, date of birth, location, etc isn't shared as far as I know, but I'm no expert so I may be wrong. I just checked what I could see on my sister's profile - I can only see her username and average steps.

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:11

This is all I can see on my sister's profile. The red line is her username, which you can change to whatever you want.

How do I find my username? Probably a stupid question! I'll PM my email address @Huggybear16!

Sansaplans · 14/03/2021 19:15

Ah okay thank you, would anyone be up for starting a weekly challenge on the app?

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 19:16

Yes! @Sansaplans

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:17

@Jumpers268 maybe it's not a username, just a name? Mine is just my first name with my first initial of surname. I've just added you using your email address, hope it's worked!

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:17

I'm definitely up for a challenge!

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 19:20

I've accepted @Huggybear16 although your steps this week would be a massive challenge for me Wink hahaha.

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:26

I'm going for it this week as I've had loads of free time. First couple of weeks was a real struggle but I'm actually finding it easier already. I didn't think I'd notice a difference in my energy and fitness so quickly. Also, I've been using my exercise step in the evenings when watching TV - that's been the biggest contribution by far! So glad I got that step - I'm with my 4 year old almost 24 hours a day right now so it's hard to get out for as much exercise as I would like. A few weeks ago I would have struggled to get 10k in a week, never mind a day!

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:28

Also, how can you see the weekly total? I've found it before, but I can't find my way back again?

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 19:32

What's an exercise step? Oh on the app go to community and then friends and it shows your weekly total alongside your friends. You're smashing it! I've found this week tough trying to hit 100k, but my legs and bum are definitely feeling it today so it was worth it!!!!

Jumpers268 · 14/03/2021 19:33

Oh and just your weekly total click on today's steps and it shows your whole weeks.

Ah perfect, thanks Jumper. It's just a step for exercising on. It's height is adjustable. You can just step up and down while watching TV or there are Step Classes on YouTube that you can follow. The classes are great cardio. I got mine from Amazon for about £35.

Oh well this would help loads!!! I have a 6 year old and he was very grumpy on our long walk today hahaha. I will definitely be getting one of these!!!!

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 19:55

Here is the one I have - but there are loads to choose from at varying prices. Glad to have you as a fitness friend, I need the motivation to keep with it. I usually give up after a few weeks and become a slob again!

JamieNotJames · 14/03/2021 20:02

Can I join in?

I finally replaced my old Fitbit Alta yesterday which I've had since forever so just getting to grips with the extra features on the new one.

I've been challenging myself to do 10k steps a day or at least 70k for the week.
This week I achieved so want to stretch a bit further.

I work from home so sat in front of a screen 7 hours a day.
I have started paying attention to the 250 steps per hour reminder and jog on the spot each hour to get my legs moving again.

I'm on week 7 of the couch to 5k which is helping so jogging 3 mornings a week plus a 45 min walk after work. I try to do about 15 mins plod on the treadmill too during my lunch break.
I need to increase what I do at the weekend though.

FlatteredFool · 14/03/2021 20:09

My username is the same as on here if anyone wants to add me.

I'm sure the OP would think "the more, the merrier" for this thread. I'm also happy for anyone here to add me on FitBit if you want to do those challenges too - just PM your username or email address if you're interested.

Huggybear16 · 14/03/2021 20:14
