Fitbit Friends-anyone up for a Fitbit challenge?

FlatteredFool · 09/03/2021 23:17

I'm loving my Fitbit and get such a sense of achievement from all the stats. I don't run or do anything exciting, I just walk and am lucky to live in a hilly place so I tend to get plenty of floors into my daily goals. I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me and sharing their Fitbit goals and achievements to encourage ourselves and others? I'm not familiar with the challenges on the app as have no real life friends to do this with and am aware it might be a privacy issue so maybe we could share daily goals and achievements by screenshot or free text or however.

My goals are:

Steps 10,000
Floors 25
Active minutes 30
Distance 3 miles

My stats for today are:

Steps 20,097
Floors 81
Active minutes 125
Distance 8.28 miles

The school run is 5 miles at a minimum and today I've taken a longer route on the way home both times but gone the quick way there. There's big hills involved and I live in a town house so floors are fairly easy to come by. I don't drive so walk everywhere which helps too.

Please come and join me for an active Spring! If anyone knows how to do the challenges/trophies thing and remain anonymous then please let me know.

55k is incredible @Huggybear16!!! Honestly mind blowing! Just did an hour step class and I'm dying 🙈😂😂😂

Huggybear16 · 08/04/2021 10:47

Oh wow @Jumpers268! An hour step class is hard-core ⭐
You'll feel good for it once the dying feeling goes away!

Puddock1 · 08/04/2021 14:53

Well done on the 55k badge! Your Fitbit must've been melting by the end of that - so impressive @Huggybear16

Stronghold · 09/04/2021 10:41

Everyone seems to have done brilliantly yesterday, well done! Smile

I can't believe I managed that many steps AND I still felt full of energy at the end of the day - once again I'm sincerely grateful to this thread and group for the motivation!

Stronghold · 09/04/2021 10:42

Are there any good step classes you'd recommend online?

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 11:14

I do like the Jenny Ford ones, especially the timer ones as I like to know how long is left 😂😂. But she comes up when you type in beginners step aerobics on YouTube. Just did one and although I'm knackered my fitness levels have hugely improved!

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 11:17

Although I'm struggling on bingo this week as just can't hit that many steps/miles. SO many steps!

Stronghold · 09/04/2021 11:33

Thank you, I will look her up. I've just ordered a stepper from amazon - I'm trying to find every way I can of staying fit in our teeny tiny flat!

I feel really guilty now, I don't know if I've effectively cheated on Get Fit Bingo - I kept ticking the activity minutes ones as I do a lot of desk cycling whole working, and it offered at least one swap and two shortcuts. Have you all been doing that? (Next time maybe I won't, I'll just stick to the actual panels...)

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 11:48

Oh I've definitely done that!! Haha. Unfortunately all they've done is take off like 5k worth of steps. I want a swap one so I can swap out the 47k steps for 56 active minutes 😂😂😂. I think it's hefty as it's 2 weeks but I feel so behind on it 🙈😂😂.

Huggybear16 · 09/04/2021 14:49

Well done @Stronghold! You're definitely not cheating - you did the moving, you deserve the credit!

Well done to Kev who won yesterday and also got his 50k badge. Amazing effort.

I've had a bad morning. I've been on the sofa since I woke up at 8am and have eaten the rest of the (many) Easter eggs I had left over. I need to step off these calories over the weekend. Not many steps so far today - need to up my game later and do a step class I think.

Let's do a weekend warrior and then a weekday hustle. I'm going to carry on flipping my bingo tiles even though Strong has won - it still feels like an accomplishment if you get Bingo, and we have about 10 days left I think?

Well done everyone for yesterday - everyone's steps were amazing. So many new badges won too. 🏅🏅🏅

Huggybear16 · 09/04/2021 15:35

Oh I just noticed you're getting a step too @Stronghold! Like @Jumpers268, I like the Jenny Ford ones for the percentage timer on the screen. Just type "beginners step aerobics" into YouTube. Since I started up step again (only 8ish weeks ago) I can tell a huge difference in my fitness. My legs are stronger and my resting heart rate has came down too. You work up a real sweat doing step, it's great cardio.

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 16:45

On that note, I'm going to finally unbox the fitness ball tomorrow 🙈🙈. Any tips for videos to search on YouTube? Or do I just bounce? Haha. Literally no idea.....

Huggybear16 · 10/04/2021 07:34

Storm has put some videos up earlier in the thread, Jumpers. Sometimes I just bounce while watching TV. 😂

Stronghold · 10/04/2021 11:10

TBH, pumping the yoga ball up is a workout in itself Grin

I think these were the ones I posted before...

But I've also been enjoying these

(And yes, just bouncing as I watch TV - I love it, but I'm a natural fidgeter anyway!)

Jumpers268 · 10/04/2021 11:54

Yeah there was no warning about pumping the thing up hahaha took flippin' ages too 😂😂😂. 6 year old thinks it's a space hopper without handles 🙈😂😂.

Thank you for posting the links again @Stronghold! I can't believe how active you all are; seeing how many steps everyone was on at like 10am made me finally get off the sofa!

Stronghold · 11/04/2021 13:12

Oh he's right, it IS like a space hopper without handles - maybe that's what it's been reminding me of, I think I had one of those when I was little and loved it! Grin

My step thing has arrived - I just need to let my ridiculously huge lunch go down and then I'm going for it. No flipping way I'm beating any targets this weekend after all (let alone any of you amazing people) - but it's all about just moving more, and it's working - drum roll! ... 140k steps this week!

I'm a bit proud of myself for once (which is a very strange feeling!) - hope you're all feeling it too Smile

Jumpers268 · 11/04/2021 18:02

I'm shite at the weekend. Always very lazy on a Sunday especially but I managed 20k today. Also did a step class this morning and I really didn't want to! Was glad I did after! I'm pleased you're feeling proud! You should!

I've got work tomorrow, Tuesday & Wednesday and back to back conference calls so will struggle on the steps but Chessington Thursday so that'll bring them up!! I'm more excited than my son 😂😂😂.

Huggybear16 · 11/04/2021 20:54

Awesome @Stronghold, you should be proud! I hope you get on well with your new step and find some exercises you enjoy.

We can't get big numbers all the time @Jumpers268 - there's work, parenting, life (and relaxing) that have to take priority. If you're more active than you used to be, you have accomplished the main goal. I see this as more of a competition with myself - I am so much more active than I was 6 months ago. You can manage a 1 hour step class - that is so impressive! I don't think I've ever managed an hour. The step classes I used to go to were 40 minutes and the ones I do at home are usually 20 minutes.

I will start a weekday hustle challenge for tomorrow. Remember, the average brit takes between 3k and 4k steps per day. We are all doing amazing!

AprilFoolaround · 12/04/2021 08:42

Today marks the start of being healthier with my diet and getting more exercise. The Easter holidays have caused a massive dip in my activity levels as I'm not doing the school run.
I can't remember where I put my fit bit last night so I'm even more behind than usual this morning.

Stronghold · 12/04/2021 10:00

Good luck April!

Yes I tried a step class and (spoiler alert) did not get anywhere near an hour Grin so a huge well done there.

I don't know if this is a useful tip for anyone else out there, but if you are also somewhat large of chest and have issues even with the best of sports bras, I can hugely recommend the Boobuddy/Boobands on Amazon which arrived for me this morning. They hold everything very tightly in and are helping me to jog on the spot between meetings today!

(I don't think I could wear one for too long as effectively it's a sort of binder pinning stuff down, but for short bursts it feels great.)

Jumpers268 · 12/04/2021 10:15

@AprilFoolaround yeah I'm down around 8k steps not doing the school run. Plus my son is beyond lazy although I think most people are fed up with going got walks!

I want to lose 7lbs. Which I know isn't a huge amount but I'm really starting to think it's not possble. Weighing myself weekly for 2 months and the scales will not move. OH suggested I give up bread this morning. I don't think he knows me.

@Stormhold yeah an hour step class is painful but makes me feel less guilty when I eat half a loaf of bread with my vegetable soup 😉.

Jumpers268 · 12/04/2021 20:11

Tried so hard to hit 20k today but I'm done in! Would've hit 5k if it wasn't for the challenge hahaha.

OublietteBravo · 12/04/2021 20:33

I’m at 19552. I will make it to 20000. I will

Stronghold · 12/04/2021 20:40

17k is amazing though! (Isn't it funny that it now doesn't seem like a lot to push past 10?)

In terms of weight loss, are you measuring yourself too? You might find with exercise that you're losing inches without losing weight?

I gave up bread, pasta etc about a year ago as part of weight loss and have stuck to the whole foods diet ever since. Last week I bought myself a white soft loaf as a treat and it really upset my stomach - I had to give up after a few days! I never even made it to my weekend chip buttie, which used to be my favourite snack! So I guess the moral of the tale is don't do it Grin

Jumpers268 · 12/04/2021 21:24

@OublietteBravo that's amazing and you will hit 20k!!

@FlatteredFool yeah I bounced on the ball for half hour this evening and surprisingly just bouncing actually is exercising (I could tell by my thighs hurting a lot haha). No I've not been measuring but none of my jeans fit me so thinking I'm not losing any inches 😩😩. I eat so much bread. Pasta, rice I'm alright without. But bread. Oh how I love bread so, so, so much. I'm going to try smaller potions for a month and see if that helps at all, and if not I'll try cutting out bread. Oh but I love bread.
