Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

Hello! Can I join please? I need to shift some of the weight that's crept on over the past year...too much sitting on my arse and too much comfort eating!

I was 12st4lbs last Friday which is the heaviest I've been in a long time. I definitely identify with the "I'll just get a 16 so it's a baggier fit" thing. At my slimmest, about 5 years ago, I was a 12/14 and that was about perfect for me.

I'm doing food tracking/calorie counting on my FitBit app. I lost weight this way a few years ago, and it really works for me. I like that I can eat anything I want, I just need to moderate, so in practice it really helps me into a healthier diet with lots of low calorie vegetables and protein to keep me feeling full, and smaller amounts of high calorie food less often. It also helps with portion control and not mindlessly stuffing biscuits into my mouth! I also like the fact that you can "offset" exercise v food - if I move more I can eat more.

Anyway, congratulations and well done to those who have lost weight so far!

MonicaBingaling · 28/01/2021 17:37

Welcome @IToldYouIWasFreaky everyone is really lovely and supportive here! I’ve just joined too and so glad I did xx

Humphriescushion · 28/01/2021 18:40

Hello everyone and well done, you are really helping me keep on track despite three bloody weeks of dieting and no loss! Have changed tack now and doing the 5:2 with some help from the 5:2 thread, but will keep posting my weekly stay the same here Grin. I normally weigh tomrrow but may leave it till saturday to keep me on the straight and narrow for an extra day. Good luck everyone.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/01/2021 18:48

Hey everyone 😂 I though I killed the thread for a bit😂
Chiming in with a tip. Aubergine. Any way instead of meat. I am currently dining on cheesy bbq aubergine wrap. It's healthy, get that 5 a day in, tasty and low on cal.

Good job everyone!

Humphriescushion · 29/01/2021 07:11

Oh forgot about aubergines thanks @ schrod and welcome @ itoldyou. I know what you mean about the weight cropping up on you, it happens very easily for me!

Well i weighed and i lost nearly 4 kgs! I am delighted as you can imagine after nearly giving up. This is too much obviously in a week but since i this is now my forth week of dieting it only amount to 1lb a week!
Thank you all on this thread for keeping me motivated and your encouragment it really helped when i felt like giving up.

It also goes to show hopefully that it pays to keep going and changes are happening even if nothing is showing.
Hopefully i can continue now with a steady 1lb a week - unless my body decides it wants to go for a full on 4 lb once a month Grin

Good luck everyone!

wineymummy · 29/01/2021 07:23

Ooh love aubergine here too. Anna Jones does some really nice aubergine recipes.
@itoldyouiwasfreaky sounds like we are similar weight etc right now and aiming for the same, hopefully we can track each other.
Humphrey that's great to see a 4kg loss this week! I am sure weight must fluctuate so much over the course of a day. I'll only weigh myself first thing in the morning, if I miss it then I won't weigh because I don't want to be disheartened by a "fake" weight mid afternoon 😂. This thread has really made me appreciate the importance of being in it for the long game. I've had a good week overall, down 1.2kg since last Friday, not bad seeing as I'm stuck home with eldest DD is quarantine so can't even get out for a walk. Weighing in at 79kg today (12st6). 7kg until healthy BMI.

1lbperweek · 29/01/2021 07:27

Morning all and welcome newbies!

Another 1lb for me today so as long as it stays off till Tuesday that another 1lb in a week so straight 4 in 4 weeks. I can’t believe how thrilled I am! Normally if I didn’t lose 4 or similar in the first week I would just sack dieting off and get bigger Grin

I’m going to incorporate another little change in February - January was cutting/hugely reducing snacks and in February I’m going to try and drink 3 pints of sugar free squash per day. I drink a lot of fizzy though so it won’t be easy. That first hit in the morning Blush

Hope you’re all getting on ok. Everyone is doing so so well! I’m totally amazed by @SchrodingersImmigrants big loss!! That’s such an achievement.

Thank you for the welcomes!
@wineymummy and @Humphriescushioncongrats on your losses!

I've just weighed myself and I've put on half a pound Confused I am not too fussed really, I know it's slow going and I've also had my period this week which can affect things. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and add in more exercise, I think, to give things a kick start.

We're having Macdonald's for lunch though...I promised DS as a payday treat. I am planning to just have a Fillet O Fish and side salad though so it shouldn't be too bad. And DS is currently making us a fruit salad for breakfast to even things out a bit!

@1lbperweek, have you tried making your squash with sparkling water? It might help wean you off the fizzy.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/01/2021 09:41

@Humphriescushion 4kg is 8.8 pounds. That's more that 1 pound a week if you are on week 4😁 Good job!
It happens to me too that it's no loss one week and than next week it shows loss for both. I think it's holding water which drops then. What helped me with it was doing a quick massage in a shower, from end of the limbs in, kind of like lymphatic one.

Thanks @1lbperweek you are doing super well!
Everyone is!

Humphriescushion · 29/01/2021 10:08

Sugar, @ shrod, no meant 2 kilos saw i said 4kgs not lbs.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/01/2021 10:15

Apologies @Humphriescushion I misread🙈

Humphriescushion · 29/01/2021 10:22

No my mistake @ shrod, i wrote 4 kgs! I bloody wish Grin was happy enough with 2 i would be doing cartwheels naked with 4 kgs.

MonicaBingaling · 29/01/2021 10:49

Morning lovelies!

Another 1lb and a half down this morning wooo!

(Although it’s only coming off so fast because I’ve just started diet)

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend xx

CaptainCallisto · 29/01/2021 20:57

Feeling quite proud of myself today. Had a massive, pre-period hormonal wobble and spent most of the morning in floods of tears. Usually, I deal with that by eating an absolute fucktonne of biscuits, or a tub of Ben and Jerry's, but today I had a banana and a glass of water and curled up with my book instead. Go me!

wineymummy · 30/01/2021 08:52

Well done Captain Callisto, good for you. And well done Monica on your loss!
According to my dodgy scales I've gained 1kg in 24 hours. 😁

1lbperweek · 30/01/2021 10:26

@IToldYouIWasFreaky I might give the sparkling water a try but tbh it’s the taste of the fizzy juice rather than the actual fizz that I love. It’s worth a try though!!

Everyone is doing fantastically!

@CaptainCallisto it’s harder at that time of the month isn’t it!

I had a terrible day yesterday - didn’t have my porridge as was out early then ate an obscene amount of sourdough bread with my soup at lunch and loads of other rubbish. Have still somehow managed to lose another 1lb though but we will see if it stays off.

Total loss for January for me is 5lbs (possibly 4 if today’s is a fluke!)

Hope you’re all sticking with me for February?! I’m going to start weighing weekly on a Tuesday cos it’s a hassle having to do it every day before I eat. First gain and I’ll go back to daily until I’ve lost again though I think or if I feel it’s meaning I’m not behaving myself.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 30/01/2021 10:51

Well done to all those who have kept on the wagon and for all the weight loss!
I was having a really good week... until yesterday!! When I ate crisps, cake, nuts & biscuits!!!! Such a pig!!!
I think I just felt I needed (deserved) a Friday treat which would have been fine... though one treat turned into several!
Back on it today though. I'm going to go food shopping and stock up again on healthy snacks and resist the urge to buy more junk!
I weigh myself on Mondays so don't know how it's going in terms of pounds gained/ lost but I'll be happy if I've maintained after my binge!!!

1lbperweek · 30/01/2021 11:05

Glad you’re not letting one bad day stop your progress. You’ve got this!

Jellifer · 31/01/2021 09:02

Morning all

I’m really enjoying reading all of your updates, very motivating. I weigh every Sunday and am another 1.2lb down this week so happy with that. Keep up the great work!

CaptainCallisto · 31/01/2021 09:21

Well done, Jellifer

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 31/01/2021 09:33

Well done Jellifer!

I weighed myself again yesterday as I wanted to calculate my BMI and I was 12sts 2lbs which is a 2lb loss from last week...and a 2.5lb loss from the day before! Amazing how much it can vary day to day. I am taking this as a win but from now on will only weigh myself on a Friday for a more accurate picture.
We all went for a family run in the park yesterday. DS (13) is starting a fitness plan of his own devising...me and DP just plodded up and down the path a bit. It actually felt really good though, so I am definitely going to try to do more running. It should be easier when the weather gets a bit more pleasant...I really miss the gym!

@ButterflyOfFreedom. Well done for getting back on it! If you are looking for healthy snacks, I am currently really enjoying instant miso soup. Itsu do little pouches that you can get in Tesco. They are only 21 cals each but very tasty and satisfying

CaptainCallisto · 31/01/2021 10:40

Just done my measurements (I'm a day early, but nevermind) and I've lost on both my waist and hips. In the past I've shown a loss on the scales but not on the tape measure, so I'm really reassured.

I've not done any exercise yet - I've been trying to focus just on food so I didn't overwhelm myself doing too much at once - but I'm starting tomorrow. I had some pretty serious (and sadly dance career ending) injuries fifteen years ago, and I always end up aggravating things when I exercise, so my mum (who is a retired physio) has made me an exercise program that takes it all into account. I'm quite excited about starting it!

CaptainCallisto · 31/01/2021 10:41

Well done on your loss Freaky

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 31/01/2021 10:55

I haven’t weighed for a few days as I kept going from 11.0 to 11.2 and in between on different day. I’m due to start my period and feel hefty so will weigh in maybe a week or so.

Kept near enough on track, did have a takeaway on Friday but got a vegetable jalfrezi and a chapati so I don’t think it would be too bad.

Everything’s going soooo slow but I read about trying to enjoy the process instead of torturing yourself. Really I’m trying to change the entire way I think about food and to stop binging/been a greedy pig 🙈 So hopefully going to learn habits that I can do forever.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 31/01/2021 10:56

Well done on everyone’s losses!
