Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

In case anyone wants a laugh we now suspect ghe, ehm..., Issues were cause by high consumption of pomegranates 🙈 The local shop got soooooooo amazing ones I probs shouldn't have had half a day (they were MASSIVE so they were like 2 smaller ones) every day for over a week 🙈

We call pomegranates Katherines in our family. My sister wanted one from the shop and she couldn't remember what they were called so she said "You know - the Katherine of Aragon fruit" (it was her symbol). It just sort of stuck Grin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 09:39

That's actually cute😂

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 24/02/2021 09:41

LOL at pomegranate overload Grin

JennyWM · 24/02/2021 11:54

Yes, I'm back on it too. I need to stop the nightly glasses of wine that have been happening since lockdown. I have just realised I am nearly a year in this bad habit, making excuses every evening as to why I deserve it.

NoJetter · 24/02/2021 13:13

I am quite missing wine more than anything else to be honest! Although I did have a few glasses of champagne on my wedding anniversary recently and the occasional can of slimline Gin and tonic but have cut out all the wine I’d got into the habit of drinking probably daily since the first lockdown.

Weighed myself this morning and I’m down 1 more kg since last week so that’s 7kg in total since the start of January! Only 7kg away from my BMI being back in the healthy bracket too so that’s my first goal.

JennyWM · 24/02/2021 14:41

@NoJetter Can I ask how did you stop this glass of wine every night, I'm finding this quite difficult?

NoJetter · 24/02/2021 16:38

Probably not helpful to you as I got prescribed medication for my back pain that I couldn’t drink alcohol with @JennyWM so that sort of got me out of the habit of it!

Could you try and have half a glass instead of a full one, or a full one every other day and gradually cut down?

JennyWM · 24/02/2021 16:45

@NoJetter Perhaps start with a half a bottle and cut back from there!! I have decided to stop during the week and only have it on the weekends, so on day two now and finding it hard!!

NoJetter · 24/02/2021 17:52

Yes that’s a good idea @JennyWM I was thinking of getting the individual bottles every now and then so I can have one glass as a treat and then don’t have to drink the rest of the bottle over the space of the week as DH doesn’t really drink wine.

wineymummy · 24/02/2021 18:03

I found that Dry January was really good for helping me stop drinking every night. I made a big thing of it so DH stopped offering me a glass of wine. I lasted 3 weeks before cracking. Now I'm back to normal it's back to the daily challenge not to succumb to the temptation. Especially with 2 kids screaming in my face all day....😳

wineymummy · 24/02/2021 18:43

Update: Tonight will definitely be a wine night.

NoJetter · 24/02/2021 18:46

I’m with you on that one @wineymummy you should get wine given to you on prescription with small kids. I have a terrible 2 and a threenager so some days it’s all I can do not to crack a bottle open at 2pm Grin

1lbperweek · 25/02/2021 09:39

I miss chocolate so much!

That is all.

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 09:42

The only thing I miss is unlimited fruit and veg. I have a fruit bowl here and I can't just go and have 4 satsumas or orange and satsuma or... Everything 😭
Had a bag of sugarsnap peas for snack yesterday and was 😱 at calories.
That's what I've been over eating all that years. Just bellow 200cal a day.

NoJetter · 25/02/2021 14:12

Are you giving yourself a specific calorie allowance a day @SchrodingersImmigrant? I am on 1200 at the moment which feels ok for me but it was certainly a wake up call for how many calories are in things. Like you I was having a lot more fruit before without thinking and yet it does add up very easily.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 14:24

Yeah. I zigzag it so I have more some days, less some other. I am absolutely ok with food and the amount of food and do really enjoy it overall (imagine actively enjoying dieting😂).
It's genuinely the 1 thing I am missing. I still eat fruit but just not pigging out in it. I could though... But cheese calling is stronger😳
Tough choices....😂

BaconAndAvocado · 25/02/2021 14:31

I miss chocolate so much. That is all 😂😂

God, me too! Most days I do have a small Milky Way and it hasn’t so far hindered my weight loss.

Importantly, it helps keep my mental well-being healthy.

LadyEloise · 25/02/2021 15:31

I'm lurking on this thread but just had to join in and say I miss chocolate too. And sweets. I've given them up for Lent ( and my weight ). Sooo hard.
NoJetter could you give me an idea of what your 1200 calories consist of please ?

1lbperweek · 25/02/2021 15:42

It’s a Lent thing for me too so only temporary thank goodness then I can go back to having a small bar every now and again (far too often). If I’ve not lost weight this week though it will be so hard to stick with it. I really need to cut out my daily bag of crisps too!

Can I ask you all about pasta. If you eat it obviously. Do you stick to 75g? I do but it never feels like enough. Having pasta for dinner and already anticipating being peckish not too long after.

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 15:45

I do 65g of spaghetti (dry) and 1 (large-ish) courgette. I really like it that way and will keep it even after. I wouldn't be satisfied with just taht amount of pasta or just courgetti

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 15:46

That's glutenfree spaghetti. I don't know if normal ones grow the same way. I basically counted so I have 150g of cooked pasta

NoJetter · 25/02/2021 17:19

@LadyEloise I am pescatarian but mostly eat vegetarian food which I think helps keep the calories down. A typical day would look something like-

Breakfast (aim for about 2-300 Cals) - porridge with blueberries or strawberries, or some other type of sugarless cereal or Greek yoghurt with fruit or maybe poached egg on a warburtons thin with smoked salmon.

Lunch (aim for about 300 calories) - warburtons sandwich thin with mustard, quorn ham and tomatoes with raw carrot & cucumber sticks and houmous or babaganoush
Or a salad with tuna, boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, green vegetables
Or soup with a warburtons thin. I have a soup maker and it is handy for a quick healthy soup using up any leftover veg.

Dinner (aim for 400 calories) - I love Mediterranean kind of food and I get really bored of eating the same dinners so I use bbc good food there are loads of low calorie recipes on here -

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/category/all-healthy

Snacks (aim for 100-200 calories) - I try not to snack too much and ask myself if I’m genuinely hungry or just bored. If I am I will have a piece of fruit, maybe some nuts, a boiled egg, popcorn, piece of cheese on a cracker.

Usually end up with 100-200 Cals spare so will have a yoghurt after dinner or a piece of dark chocolate or a slimline g&t maybe once a week or so.

When a lot of people hear 1200 calories they think it’s quite extreme and that I must be starving but I’m not at all. I’m having 3 meals a day plus snack and it feels right for me.
