Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

@BaconAndAvocado it's epic isn't it!!! I hate the shape of the pieces though Grin

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 22:06

squirtle the pieces are unusual aren't they?
I've ordered some Tony's boxes of chocolate eggs for the DCs for Easter.
They arrived yesterday, I've asked DH to hide them 😂

1990shopefulftm · 20/02/2021 10:55

@RainingBatsAndFrogs thank you. It's the first time I ve been overweight in my life so I ve found it very difficult to wrap my head round and keep wishing my pregnancy cravings were brocolli instead of crisps and cake. I m almost 26 and never done ab exercises before but I can give it a go.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/02/2021 12:26

Well I’m definitely having a more relaxed weekend re food!

Having a roast and then apple crumble later......

Back on it tomorrow. Feeling really positive that I’ll lose another 1 or 2 lb this coming week.

CaptainCallisto · 21/02/2021 14:25

I'm having one of those mornings where I can actually really feel a difference between myself before I started on this and now. We had takeaway last night, and whilst I still had a 10" pizza to myself (not great), I would have had a 12" before, and probably garlic bread too. I actually struggled to finish it last night, and I'm feeling really bloaty today. Three months ago, I'd have eaten a bigger pizza, plus sides, and felt no difference the next day. So even though I'm not looking any different really (12lbs lost so far), I have made a difference on the inside. I'm feeling pretty positive about it Smile

BaconAndAvocado · 21/02/2021 14:34

CaptainCallisto you should definitely positive, that’s great!

It makes sense that the less you eat, the less you want as your stomach shrinks.

CaptainCallisto · 21/02/2021 17:41

Thanks Bacon. It's given me a bit of a boost so hopefully I'll keep on track a bit longer!

CaptainCallisto · 21/02/2021 17:42

I've got a long way to go!

SquirtleSquad · 22/02/2021 08:21

Monday weigh in..

04/01/2021 - 15st 8lbs
11/01/2021 - 15st 1.5lbs (-6.5lbs)
18/01/2021 - 14st 13lbs (-2.5lbs)
25/01/2021 - 14st 10.5lbs (-2.5lbs)
01/02/2021 - 14st 9lbs (-1.5lbs)
08/02/2021 - 14st 5lbs (-4lbs)
15/02/2021 - 14st 5.5lbs (+0.5lbs)
22/02/2021 - 14st 1lb (-4.5lbs)

Total loss to date: 21lbs

Very happy this week but completely unexpected as had a big piggy dominos on Thursday (whole medium pizza plus shared wedges and garlic bread with DH). But have been pretty strict outside of that!

My ultimate goal "for now" was to be (and to stay under) 14st for my pre op which is 2 weeks today. My operation is 5 weeks today and if I could shift another half a stone by then it would be an absolute dream come true!!!

Keep going everyone, every single lb is a huge weight lifted Wine

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/02/2021 08:26

Amazing squirtle, well done!

Weigh day for me too - and I'm STILL 9 stone 6 lbs!!

It's getting a bit frustrating (& embarrassing!) not having lost anything so far. I've maintained every week (think it's been 5 weeks now).
At least it's not a gain I suppose!!
(And I did have some sneaky treats over half term!!!!)

1lbperweek · 22/02/2021 08:50

You’re all doing so well! I’m extremely jealous.

After my first half week of no chocolate ... 3lbs on! I’m going with @SchrodingersImmigrant theory though of knowing I haven’t eaten enough calories to eat all that but it’s definitely hard to keep the motivation up. I’ve now gained back all of the 5lbs I lost in Jan. I’m an embarrassment to the thread Grin

I did have a massive McDonald’s yesterday though Blush

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 09:23

Are you due on? I had cursed few weeks with digestive issues and it's finally budging. Weight sayed same for nearly 3weeks. 👀 But i also went ehhm, sorry for this, to toilet only once a week! That was not comfortable. I was ill at the beginning of jan and since then it's all odd. I can't muster energy to exercise, my bowels are acting like a stroppy teenager and refuse to cooperate and guess what.
Just got my jab before weekend and having side effects.
It's just not meant to be in 2021😂

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 09:42

Finally! 1.5kg down!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 22/02/2021 10:34

Wow, SchrodingersImmigrant - well done!

After some weeks of plateauing and niggly ups and downs I have busted through another round number of KGs, and am down 0.7 Kgs on last Monday.

15.4 Kgs lost since I started healthier eating and more exercise in Lockdown 1.

1lbperweek salt makes a big difference to me. I made a really delicious and not calorific but quite salty soup that I ate for a few days running last week and my weight went up on those days. Drinking extra water , water retention, I reckon.

CaptainCallisto - adjusting to a smaller portion is a major step - it makes it all so much easier, IMO. Good for you! Let your success fuel you!

1990shopefulftm · 22/02/2021 12:05

Weighed myself this morning and down 3lbs in two weeks, going in the right direction.

BaconAndAvocado · 22/02/2021 13:55

Wow, well done 1990s that’s brilliant!

1lb don’t lose heart. Just be strong, keep going and definitely avoid Macdonalds!

I couldn’t get through the (week)day without something nice to eat. Eating something like a couple of rich tea biscuits or a small choccie bar and eating 3 healthy meals seems to be ok.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 14:02

Thanks @RainingBatsAndFrogs
Unfortunately it's not all really my doing, but rather my digestive system finally going off that weird strike😂 I am still behind, but confident it will catch up soon.
Still baffled at what happened there because my gut is normally super healthy and non problematic employee😂

Good job everyone still on it!

1990shopefulftm · 22/02/2021 14:56

@SchrodingersImmigrant you could try fibre one bars, tmi I had some trouble last week so ate one of those everyday and a couple of small lactulose doses sorted my gut out.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 15:01

Funny thing is that apparently I have plenty of fibre! I am a freak of a nature😂 If my tracking shows I am low, I just put some psyllium husk in my yogurt (I tried to mix it in water once🤢).
I think it was something from the illnes earlier on because it coincided.
Thank you though! Bars might be more pleasant 😂

NoJetter · 22/02/2021 18:12

Hi, could I join you all? Such a lovely and supportive thread!

I started healthy eating at the start of January. I was 86.2kg and my BMI was bordering on obese which gave me such a kick to do something. I was 62kg when I got married 5 years ago and I want to get back to that.

I had 2 babies 18 months apart then have had terrible back problems with a slipped disc which left me completely housebound and unable to walk for 6 months last year and I piled on even more weight as I was comfort eating and not walking. I had surgery on it in December and while I’m not 100% better it’s a huge improvement and I can walk again.

I’ve lost just over 6kg. I’m sure the weight loss will slow down a little but I’d love to lose 1lb a week.

I don’t do well with diets or denying myself things and would end up eating crap so what I’m doing so far (cutting out unhealthy snacks, weighing portions and logging on my Fitbit) is really working for me.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 18:36

Ah! Slipped disk is a bitch!

Good job and welcome!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 23/02/2021 10:37

JoJetter Fantastic achievement to have lost 6KG.

I have gone from 82Kg mid-May to 66Kg now - at about 1lb a week. Just by cutting out snacks, adjusting my portion size, not eating desserts or puddings (except occasionally) and trying to eat healthily. More fruit and veg, a lot less fried food. I have also upped my exercise (only fast walking, swimming when allowed, and some modest strength exercises).

But all 'normal' food and meals.

Good luck - slow and steady is the way to do it, if it suits you, and the results show or can be felt quickly anyway, which is encouraging.

wineymummy · 23/02/2021 14:14

Well done everyone on their losses! I've been reading but haven't had a chance to reply. It's good to hear the success stories too. The longer this takes, the more likely we are to make healthy changes that we can stick with long term.

I had a bit of a wobble where I felt like my weight did nothing but stagnate for a week. Then I cracked on Saturday and enjoyed a glorious day of eating carbs - cereal, crumpets, cake, toast and potatoes! I just needed a proper day off. I've been more motivated since, I realised how easily I could go back to my old ways if I don't keep on top of things. I thought I'd be screwed but am down to 77.8 today, so a bit stagnated still but it's still a little drop. Think I might switch to weekly weigh ins now, on a Friday morning, as now my losses are less significant each week, I find the daily weigh ins don't keep me motivated any more.
Shroedinger, sorry to be 'that person' but please keep an eye on your bowel health and talk to your GP if it doesn't resume normal service - such a big change coming on suddenly should be something to keep an eye on.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/02/2021 14:28

Thanks @wineymummy 😁 The normal service has resumed. 😂 I think it may have been stress. Or food. I don't knwo. All is ok now. And weight is moving a lot

NoJetter · 23/02/2021 14:32

That’s amazing weight loss @RainingBatsAndFrogs and very encouraging as this is pretty much exactly what I’ve been doing so it’s great to hear you have lost so much weight this way. What an amazing achievement.

I think a big part of it was adjusting portion size. I was way off with this and realised when I started weighing my food and logging it on my Fitbit. Massive bowl of cereal was something ridiculous like 500 calories. And serving myself and 6ft athletic DH the same size meals.

I am weighing daily at the moment which seems to work best for me as I log it on my Fitbit app and I can see all the little fluctuations and as long as I see it going down gradually I don’t mind a few days of it being up or not moving as I can see the bigger pattern long term. I think if I weighed myself weekly it would feel worse to see no movement or the scales going up on a heavier day if I hadn’t seen how much I was the rest of the week if that makes sense.

I’m fitting in a lot more walking now ds1 is back at preschool (they were shut to everyone except keyworker or vulnerable children until this Monday) and it’s a 40 min walk there and back twice a day which is nice and appreciate the walk a lot more as I was stuck in the house so much last year. Lovely spring day today and will go collect him at 3 and get some more fresh air!
