Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

You're definitely on track, Squirtle - well done!

I've maintained this week, though as I was afraid I'd have gained after a carb heavy few days, I'm taking it as a win!

I've bought myself a little dancefloor and I'm going to try and get my body to remember that it used to be a champion tap dancer. Hoping that might boost me a bit. I'd really like to lose another three pounds and make it a round stone by the time I go back to work (hopefully!) on the 8th.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/02/2021 16:36

Weigh day for me - 9 stone 6 lbs - same as last week.

But I'll take that as like many of us, I had a bit of a indulgent weekend including a full English breakfast, croissants with jam & chocolate muffins!!

Back on track today...!

Keep going everyone! :)

1lbperweek · 16/02/2021 21:39

Did anyone cave and have pancakes today?

I’m going to really try and give up sugar for Lent. Just obvious things like chocolate and cakes.

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 16/02/2021 23:06

Yes I had one pancake with sugar and lemon.....it was lovely but it’s back to no eating between meals from tomorrow.

I’m not sure I could give up chocolate for a long period of time but good luck to you 1lbperweek
I bet you’d see great health benefits.

SquirtleSquad · 16/02/2021 23:21

I had a tiny slither of one of the pancakes Grin but did end up with a fruit split ice lolly about an hour ago Wink

wineymummy · 17/02/2021 07:45

Well done Squirtle that's great progress.
I'm sake as everyone else, stuck in a rut of not losing or gaining. I was 77.9 a week ago, lost motivation and ate too much chocolate, pizza and wine last weekend. Been good since Sunday and got back down to 78 but this is my first period of not losing anything over the week in total. I didn't even have a pancake or any V day chocs! And Pancake Day is my second favourite holiday (after Xmas naturally.) Hopefully I can be good all week and see a drop by Fri. Looking after the kids all day today so at least I know my step count will be c.10000 by the end of the day! Wine might be needed tho...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/02/2021 09:07

Every time my weight fluctuates up I remind myself (since I calory count) that I simply didn't eat 14000 calories extra so it's just normal body fluctuations and water hold after wine. It helps not to stress it too much. If I feel I did actually eat waaay too much, I just take off some calories from each day for the rest of the week to make up for it a bit.
Do you know what really fucks your weight ins? Bloody constipation (tmi sorry) after dropping some carbs for a week😂

1lbperweek · 17/02/2021 09:12

Yum I wish we’d made some!

Yes not having chocolate is going to be so hard but it’s definitely my downfall and I’ve mentioned on here before I’ll ask my DH to bring me a small bar from the shop and he can’t resist the big bars because they’re always on offer then I can’t resist eating it all once it’s in the house! So if I know I can’t have any for the whole of Lent it will prevent that. Was going to give up all sugar but I enjoy my porridge with a tiny splodge of syrup so much and if I stopped having that I’d end up having 30 bits of toast instead!

@SchrodingersImmigrant that’s definitely a good way to look at it. Our bodies can be so cruel to us with these fluctuations! And yes about the constipation - I don’t suffer myself but I certainly feel more pleased with myself when I do go before weighing Grin

My body is like an HP printer. If I want it to do something it pretends the request was never made or starts doing something totally different 😂

CaptainCallisto · 17/02/2021 14:55

I had one pancake with a bit of Nutella. I had a very light lunch though to allow for it calorie wise. I'm one of those people where if I start denying myself things like that on special occasions, I just end up giving up completely. I'm trying to have less than I would otherwise, but still let myself have birthday cake/pancakes etc.

My husband offered me the last of one of my fave chocs in a tub of quality street tonight and I absentmindedly accepted it then remembered and threw it back at him like it was on fire Grin

Haven’t updated about my reduction in fizzy juice for a wee while. Am easily managing 2/3 pints of squash per day instead of the same amount of fizzy but I do have some at night. Was expecting amazing things from all that water but maybe the squash totally undoes any goodness?

Hope you all had a good day!

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 18/02/2021 09:22

1lb the sugar in the squash won’t be doing you any favours apart from quenching the sugar craving!

I’ve found, quite worryingly, that if I go a whole day without sugar I get headaches which I guess must be withdrawal symptoms.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/02/2021 09:32

If you are drinking no added sugar ones, it's not an issue. They have sweeteners though.

middleager · 18/02/2021 09:34

Well done to everybody so far.

Hoping I can join in?

I've been losing 1lb a week since the start of Jan, using MFP and 1300 cals a day, but with a day off every Sat!

I'm 5ft 1, 48 and the weight crawls off. It's going steadily at the moment though because I'm more than 2 stone overweight.

Good news is that I'm now on the cusp of obese and overweight, rather than just obese, BMI wise.

BaconAndAvocado · 18/02/2021 10:48

middleager that's good progress.
I definitely don't want to see a rapid loss. When this has happened in the past it just goes straight back on when I resume normal eating.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/02/2021 12:14

Middleager - well done - I have lost about 15Kgs since about May / June last year - at a steady 1lb a week, more or less. It makes a noticeable difference within a reasonable amount of time, and for me, that early success and achievement kept me going.

Plus I adopted a sustainable 'ordinary' healthy eating habit which once I got out of the snacking routine has been easy to live with.

Just losing the last Kg - or so of flabby belly.

Changing your BMI zone is a huge milestone!

middleager · 18/02/2021 12:43

Ah thanks and well done on your weight losses too. 15kg is great!

I was once a Gold Weight Watchers member. The weight had been lost slowly and steadily.

I did eventually put it back on, but this was over a five year period and after I stopped counting points/portions.

I weigh and measure everything as I know I would naturally veer towards larger portions.

1990shopefulftm · 18/02/2021 13:55

Can I join you all? I ve been trying to lose weight since December, some weeks I manage a 1lb, some weeks it's even less or none at all so my loss so far is 4.3kg.

I have about 1400 calories a day and then a day a week where I let myself have a bit more. I really hate how my stomach looks and just wish I could go back a year and tell newly pregnant me to step away from the crisps, any tips on how to keep motivated without feeling like food is the enemy?

Humphriescushion · 19/02/2021 07:29

Morning all, weigh day again for me and . 3 of a kilo, so not a huge amount but in the right direction. Bit of a difficult week and caved mre than normal, between pancakes etc so is good enough. I looked at some stats and am the lightest i have been for years, so that is quite motivating!
Hope everyone is doing ok and good luck!

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 11:45

I've lost 3lb this week! Really pleased but recognise that this will tail off in weeks to come.

I think it also demonstrates how much I was stuffing my face with snacks too.

All I've done is stick to 3 healthy but tasty meals a day and have 2 snacks only each day. A small Milky Way, 2 rich tea biscuits, a low fat yoghurt.

I'm going to relax a bit over the weekend (fish and chips tomorrow night) but get back on it Monday.

SquirtleSquad · 19/02/2021 11:51

@BaconAndAvocado that's definitely the right way to go and a good attitude to it. I've tried really hard not to restrict enjoyment of food and still make really nice meals - just not stuff my face full of crap all day everyday (just occasionally on some days Grin).

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 13:14

Thanks squirtle
Yes I think tomorrow may well be a Stuffing of the Face day 😂
I recently discovered Tony's chocolate. I know this is a Weight Loss thread but, holy moly it's good. And PC too to boot!
The salted caramel bar is the best .....sorry, back to my veg soup.

CaptainCallisto · 19/02/2021 17:03

I've been feeling better about things this week. We had a flyer through the door yesterday for a new pizza place in town which actually delivers to our village (a lot don't) so DS has been begging for a takeaway all day. DH has said we'll have it tomorrow, so I'm going to weigh myself a day early!

Well done everyone 👍

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 19/02/2021 17:47

1990 half a stone since December is good and definitely worth having achieved!

And don't think 'even less' of losses of less than 1lb / 500g. 250g is the equivalent of a pack of butter and well worth losing off your middle.

Enjoy what you do eat - find healthy things that you enjoy and can eat in quantities big enough to be satisfying.

And find little treats that you enjoy - a satsuma, a couple of rich tea biscuits, a cup of cocoa, and stick to not many a day.

Can you find time to do some exercise for your abs?

Celebrate every pack of butter lost and be pleased with yourself - success breeds success and 250g loss is a notable success!
