Aiming for 1lb per week

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

I wonder as well if it's something to do with the timing, if we all mostly started beginning of Jan, maybe our bodies are kicking in now and metabolism is shifting to make weight gain slower. That, or we've all succumbed to temptation in these gloomy, soggy days. My vice was wine last night. And eating raw cookie dough with DD. I'm also on my period right now and feeling it. Hoping for a bigger drop next week.

wineymummy · 04/02/2021 18:32

Weight loss I mean

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/02/2021 18:32

It's the mood. Even I, actually usually positive and really resistant person, have issues. It is by FAR not the most stressful time of my life but it's... Bwcoming dark or smth.

Fortunately metabolism doesn't shift considerably like that so it's the mood. I think most people are becoming bit overwhelmed by this all now

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/02/2021 18:34

Anyway. Just tucking into mega bowl of spiced veg😂
Hopefully that will be good pick me up

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 04/02/2021 19:50

Don't cry @MonicaBingaling !

Water retention accounts for a LOT of misery. Even eating loads of salty stuff can up your weight in water.

And, it is the general trajectory that counts. You know, like all those COVIF stats graphs - even though it is going down, there are little upspikes along the way.

So, as others said, don't beat yourself up and don't give up - be glad you enjoyed the takeaways and be really chuffed with yourself for maybe only having one of something instead of two on a couple of occasions this week.

You will be back on track in no time.

But February. In Lockdown. It is a struggle. But it will be worth it.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/02/2021 20:35

When you are having a bath or a shower next, massage your limbs from end towards your body. Do the rest of the body too.
It helps me with water and it's nice.

MonicaBingaling · 04/02/2021 21:07

Thanks guys for being so supportive and kind ❤️ You are right I shouldn’t beat myself up I am only human after all.

I’ve done well today and been really healthy so at least that is something positive.

Hope everyone has had a lovely evening x

Humphriescushion · 05/02/2021 06:54

Dont be too hard on yourself @ monica, what @ squirtle said, take care of yourself. Sorry you are stuggling too @ callisto, is so hard when the weather is rubbish, hopefully things will improve soon.

Just over 1lb for me this week. After weeks of nothing i am delighted. Felt i may have stayed the same and would have been a bit disheartened, so is more than enough to motivate me. I have changed from slimming world to the 5:2 and it seems to be working for me.

Good luck everyone everyone.

wineymummy · 05/02/2021 07:49

Well done humphries. Glad you got your loss this week. And I hope you're feeling better Monica. The temptation to snack is the worst. I'm motivating myself by taking advantage of not going anywhere or seeing anyone so now's the time to be in control of my diet and drinking....and hoping to emerge like a beautiful slim butterfly in spring/summer! It is so hard tho. If the yummy stuff is in the house, I want to eat it! I rreeeaalllly want pizza tonight.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 05/02/2021 10:21

It's a gain here too Sad Up 1lb from last week. I don't really understand why as I've been quite disciplined all week, averaging about 1500 calories a day. I'm not going to stop doing what I'm doing though, I'm getting into the groove of it now and finding lots of nice low calorie things to eat that are keeping me full so I really don't feel like I'm starving myself.
I'm comforting myself with the thought that if I'd carried on eating and drinking like I was, I'd be gaining well over 1lb a week so even if I'm not quite losing yet, I'm at least slowing/stopping the gain and when things open up again and the weather improves, so I'm able/want to exercise more, I'm sure the loss will improve.

Be kind to yourself MonicaBingalling! Life is soooo tough at the moment that even little steps towards a healthier lifestyle feel massive.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 05/02/2021 10:24

It will drop next week.

Remember weightloss isn't just straight line going down. It's all over the place while going down

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 05/02/2021 11:28

LOL - this morning I was 1Kg up on yesterday and the day before. It is simply not possible for me to have eaten enough extra calories for that to have happened in any meaningful way. The only extra thing I ate was a tiny piece of brie, about 100 cals. AND I went on a brisk uphill walk for an hour and a half. Not uphill all the way, of course.

wineymummy · 05/02/2021 17:08

Raining that happened to me last week! But it didn't disappear the next day, I've been slowly dropping down from it all week. I've had my period though so hoping when it ends, my weight drops by that kilo too.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 05/02/2021 17:57

Fingers crossed for you Winey. This is why we mustn't give up!

I haven't had an unexplained Overnight Kilo arrive before...will wait and see what happens!

MonicaBingaling · 06/02/2021 12:59

Afternoon everyone,

Thought it was time to check in again . I weighed myself this morning and I’m down to 9st 5lb which is a bit better than the other day when I was 9st 11lbs

I think a combination of Eating low carbs/healthy for 2 days and that Ive nearly finished my period has helped.

I’m so glad I have this group for support as you guys were right, most of the weight was water weight.

Wishing everyone a good weekend x

CaptainCallisto · 06/02/2021 14:15

Well done Monica - I hate how hormones play havoc with everything. I'm now 13 days bloody late, bloated like a bastard puffer fish, and really irritable.

DH has just arbitrarily decided he's making pancakes. I haven't budgeted for pancakes today so I could quite happily strangle him. I'm quite impressed by my restraint in not throttling him eating them though!

LadyEloise · 06/02/2021 15:23

What breakfast do you recommend for slow n steady weight loss ?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/02/2021 15:34

I eat slice of toast with egg and different herbs and spices. Cba to faff about with breakfast too much. It takes me half an hour to just remember what year it is...

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 06/02/2021 15:50

I have one level spoon of high protein granola, one level spoon of all bran, one spoon of Greek yogurt and a load of frozen blueberries.

Or a smallish bowl of porridge with no sugar (semi skimmed milk)

Or one slice of wholemeal toast, easy in the butter, and an egg.

wineymummy · 06/02/2021 18:09

I have Greek yoghurt with peanut butter, or 2 scrambled eggs with a bit of parmesan or sometimes smoked salmon. I'm doing low carb tho so it's quite a high fat choice.
Good news Monica! I've just finished my period and seen another jump on the scales! Probably courtesy of yesterday having a night off and eating bao buns, and drinking wine. I've been super good today though so hope it's down again tomorrow.

CaptainCallisto · 06/02/2021 22:00

I have a big bowl of porridge (50g oats and semi skimmed) because I know that will see me through to lunch.

LadyEloise · 06/02/2021 22:05

Thank you

1lbperweek · 06/02/2021 22:05

Have fallen behind with the thread but just wanted to check in! Haven’t had a great week at all. It’s amazing how a gain can screw with your mindset even when you know you will probably lost it again in a week or so. I may well be back at square one after this week.

Can I join you, please?

I'd love to lose a pound a week.

Thank you Thanks

Sounds harshBlush, but you do have to get over it. The body just does things like this. It absolutely sucks when it happens first few times, but you can't let it get to you every time. Bodyweight is never just stable or just goes down especially if you are weighting often. It's a living organism. It will bloat, hold water, loose water, be constipated, be the other way around, swell for absolutely unknowm reasons etc.

It's simply not as simple as same or down. The more someone accepts that as long as overall is down, no matter what happens weight wise in between, it's all good, the better it will be for them and imho easier.
I would do nothing but cry if I didn't accept that my bastarding body moves easily 2kg up from last weight in and then drops 3kg (so 1 kg loss a week) all within 1 week. It's quite fascinating actually 😁
