Jiving into January

Thought I would keep with the dancing theme. Happy New Year to everyone. Lets all hope for a much safer 2021.

Even though I wasn't planning to weigh in this morning, I did out of habit and weighed in at 9st5. Take away (very delayed) last night, so not surprised. My aim is to be 9st1ish by the end of January. I'm hoping to get a couple of pounds off for my Birthday on the 9th.

Mmm pain au chocolat :-) The DIY ones from tins are one of our special family breakfasts. They're 175 calories each so if I have one and a half* it's still less than my usual bowl of cereal.

I made hot chocolate today too, as it was one of the promises I made when I was coaxing my son down the not-very-high climbing wall.

Are the gizmos better than the weights? The weights are apparently very good and I'm supposed to use them for 20 minutes a day. I just need to either stand up or walk around while wearing it. I was doing it in the evening while sorting out packed lunches, but now there are no packed lunches. Pathetic excuse, I know.

*because there are 6 in the tin and 4 people at home.

drspouse · 09/01/2021 22:25

Bit of a treat day but walked LOADS and lots of healthy stuff has come in the Ocado order.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/01/2021 09:21

Never tried weights. Kegel 8 is what I have.

Not getting on the scales. I ate the oats, a mini cherry bakewell and a packet of crisps. Evening is my weakness and since I've stopped alcohol I'm craving sugar. Pretty sure less calories in the alcohol than the crap I'm eating.

I think I need a proper 24 hour fast to reset my appetite and break through the sugar cravings but it's been a while. Hope I can manage it.

IDontMindMarmite · 10/01/2021 09:49

Can you plan around having something sweet in the evening? I have to do that otherwise I know I'd crack.

Octopus37 · 10/01/2021 09:51

Lazy day yesterday just picking at bits and having a takeaway. I didnt go out yesterday. I am therefore 9st6.25 today, so back on the wagon today. I've just had a yoghurt for my breakfast. Hope everyone has a good day.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/01/2021 12:40

Ooh not seen you have that number before Octopus. Hopefully a good chunk of that is water caused by salt in takeaway.

Yes it's the stopping that seems to be the issue Marmite. I had hot chocolate and a pain au chocolate and that was supposed to be that then an hour or so later cravings and clearly false hunger took over.

IDontMindMarmite · 10/01/2021 13:10

Would it be too early to brush your teeth? I dunno if that would help but for me, brushing my teeth is kind of a line in the sand, not eating anything more tonight thing

Octopus37 · 10/01/2021 15:33

HoneyBadger, last time I saw that number was after VE Day. I dont mind marmite, know what you mean about brushing your teeth, thats one of the only things that works for me when it comes to stopping eating. Have eaten 678 calories so far today (a Muller Corner yoghurt for breakfast, a Bourneville bar (236), a graze bbq snack pot (139) and a Graze protein oat bite. Had to go out to do some work today, steps 8224 so far, although wont be going out again today. Have also tried drunk quite a lot of water (3 pints so far), hoping I can turn this blip round. Focusing on being mindful about calories, as I really slipped with that towards the end of last year, as well as eating more nutritionally dense foods. Know the Graze things are a bit of a gimmick, but they are clearly labelled. Going to try and eat an omlette tomorrow, really not keen on eggs, but going to try as I know they are good for you and low in calories. Will have it for lunch though, dont think I could face it for breakfast.

OP posts:
drspouse · 10/01/2021 15:36

I also have to plan for an evening snack (sometimes savoury) or it's a lost cause.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/01/2021 16:11

Go tortilla octopus. Focus on the potato rather than the egg. I love eggs thankfully!

Yes I could try the teeth gimmick.

A shop a few miles away just put a leaflet through my door and they will deliver you stuff an hour after ordering. I found myself on the app with beers, magnums and bombay mix in my basket before catching myself and going wtf are you doing? Is this all it takes for you to give it up?

Have put my phone down and decided to resist.

I'm drinking lots of herbal tea.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/01/2021 16:16

I love these for a sweet treat and tho a bit moreish they are at least nutritious and filling cookingonabootstrap.com/2019/11/19/peanut-butter-banana-muffins-recipe/

I have made a big vat of roast veg, carrot and chickpea soup, sofa bread, those muffins and have a veggie satay noodles organised for tea.

In Ireland we have a programme which helps people with weight loss and they publish their meal plans. They're not diet foods or restrictive. It's called operation transformation if anyone needs some inspiration for some new meals.

IDontMindMarmite · 10/01/2021 16:33

Thanks for the suggestion @HeyGirlHeyBoy, some lovely recipes there. No calorie counts but never mind.

drspouse · 10/01/2021 17:09

I just throw it all into MFP to get a calorie count.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/01/2021 17:22

Oh there should be calories counts.. What are you looking at? It's usually around 500 for main meal/dinner then 3 and 400 for breakfast and lunch plus 2 decent snacks.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/01/2021 17:34

And if you don't want to trawl you can put operation transformation into the address bar and add chicken/salad/beef etc to see what's there.

IDontMindMarmite · 10/01/2021 17:38

I went to the recipes, where you could choose a chef. Was looking at Rachel Allen - some gorgeous recipes there. I'd love to have the scallop paella.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/01/2021 17:56

Ah you can go to leaders and then their meal plans. Gives their weight etc and exercise too.. It's good. I'm making the noodles from it tonight. Smells good!

Octopus37 · 10/01/2021 18:42

That's a good tip HoneyBadger, have been looking up different omlette recipes to detract from the egg as well, so will try both. Apologies, I meant to thank everyone for their Birthday wishes yesterday. I didn't read the whole thread this morning. Just eaten a small piece of breaded cod with some roast potatoes and roast cauliflower and broccoli for dinner, no more food for me today. HeyGirl will have a look at some of the recipes you posted.

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/01/2021 19:34

Do see what you think. It's where I got my broccoli and mushroom nutty fried rice.

Accountability
B: berries and Greek yoghurt, 2 skinny cappuccinos
L: roast veg with hallloumi and lentils, handful cashews and one square 75% dark choc
D: veg satay noodles and banana muffin (linked above)
Not brilliant, not bad, teeth are brushed so I am done. Water good, steps poor, fruit and veg: 6 portions.

sparklyglitterball · 10/01/2021 20:27

Hey, happy Sunday. I've gone over calories today 😬 but had a lovely dinner of homemade egg fried rice, strir fried veg and crispy duck (the vegetarian version for me) with little pancakes, cucumber and spring onions. Need to get back in the zone tomorrow. I've done over 20k steps today including a 5km run, so hopefully will balance out the eating a bit.

Octopus37 · 11/01/2021 08:34

9st3.75 this morning, must have been water. Onwards and downwards

Morning all, happy birthday for the other day Octopus. I've been unwell and abandoned most things except the essentials which included lying on the sofa and eating rich tea biscuits. Yesterday I felt better and batch cooked 6 pizza bases and enough marinara sauce for the pizzas and at least 3 pasta dishes. The freezer is now stocked with our favourite meal. I only ate toast and biscuits yesterday so thankfully the steroids haven't made me hungry. I've got a huge shop coming on Thursday (fingers crossed no unsuitable subs) and the better eating will start then. Obviously there's been no exercise happening apart from going up and down the stairs. My Fitbit app says I've managed my floors and mileage goals though even though I've only been inside.
I need to catch up on the thread now and go make birthday cake.

Octopus37 · 11/01/2021 14:37

Hope you feel better soon Flattered. I actually managed to make a mushroom and gruyere cheese omlette. for lunch, using two eggs and 1 slice of Lidl gruyere cheese. It was actually nice, going to try and have the same lunch tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if it fills me up for the afternoon.

Yum Octopus, delish. Mushrooms and cheese = heaven..
Logging for the day:
B: ONO deluxe is back baby! Grin and my god does it keep me full. Top marks.
L:small portion of the veg satay noodles
D: carrot and chickpea soup with soda bread, small slice dh red velvet cake (It'll be no good tomorrow apparently!)
S: 3 skinny cappuccinos, working out as 49 cals for milk each, no need to add cals for ground coffee is there?
7k steps so far and heading out shortly for my masked constitutional with friend. Will easily hit the 12k. Water: could do better, v busy today. F&V: 7

IDontMindMarmite · 11/01/2021 20:34

Oops, I went over my calorie goal today. Too much snacking.
