Jiving into January

Thought I would keep with the dancing theme. Happy New Year to everyone. Lets all hope for a much safer 2021.

Even though I wasn't planning to weigh in this morning, I did out of habit and weighed in at 9st5. Take away (very delayed) last night, so not surprised. My aim is to be 9st1ish by the end of January. I'm hoping to get a couple of pounds off for my Birthday on the 9th.

Oh gosh Honeybadger absolutely not. I see I left out 'me' from 'That's been me' in my last post, hope you didn't think I was referring to you!

IDontMindMarmite · 21/01/2021 22:16

It wouldn't be a very realistic group if we only posted about making progress.

I drank loads of water for me today, it was just a thirsty day. One of those pesky lbs was off this morning but I have a feeling we're going to fluctuate between it and not for a while.

drspouse · 21/01/2021 22:51

I think I'd rather see a solid group here in good and bad times as otherwise when I have my bad days I'll just feel like I can't show my face.

Octopus37 · 22/01/2021 08:12

Here here, definitely better to keep posting whether we make progress or not, its so hard at the moment. As I've said before, its great that this forum is so supportive and non-judgemental. Its Friday which feels like an achievement on its own, I like to think that with each passing week we are a bit nearer to when we will be able to get back to normality.

It's Friday indeed, my day off (= home learning for DD turn but the rain has stopped!)

I did! I may be a bit paranoid lately due to work issues sorry Blush and thank you for clarifying.

Morning all. Here's an interesting Twitter thread I thought I'd share:
twitter.com/peterwalker99/status/1352194506205110274

Basically a Guardian journalist has written a book about inactivity, and that modern lifestyles force us to be far less active than is healthy for us, and that it's a public health issue, not an individual issue.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 22/01/2021 11:24

Oh I'm glad I checked back Honeybadger, I would never make comments like that to you. I've been off track a long while now but as I say I'm giving myself credit for every win, every 10k+ step day, every nó snack evening etc.

drspouse · 22/01/2021 11:40

@Monochrome4 what I've been saying for years!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 22/01/2021 11:50

Reading now, very interesting monochrome!

Octopus37 · 22/01/2021 12:37

Very true about the lack of activity levels. Saying that though loads of people claim that physical activity doesn't make much difference to weight loss, you cant out run your fork etc. Its about health though not just weight.

That never sits well with me octopus. Pounds were flying off me in the summer with a regular daily step count of 11k plus, no way was that a coincidence. I was burning those few hundred calories extra every day, it helped massively.

When you eat healthily, I think exercise can make a massive difference I agree. If you're eating thousands of calories a day and burning a few hundred going for a run, the exercise won't do a thing. I think that's the intention behind the phrase 'can't outrun a bad diet'
IDontMindMarmite · 22/01/2021 14:28

My water intake is poor today. I'm pinned down by a cat though so I literally can't do anything about it.

Monochrome4 · 22/01/2021 15:01

IDontMindMarmite Ahhhh, prrrrrrrrrr. Give him a head rub from me. :-)

IDontMindMarmite · 22/01/2021 15:12

Grin I'm getting lots of head bumps, nuzzles and purrs 💖

Octopus37 · 22/01/2021 17:15

I actually agree about the exercise Heygirl, was just quoting what others have said. The scales always know when I haven't done enough steps. I genuinely wonder how old people and those with mobility problems keep their weight down without starving themselves.

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 22/01/2021 18:00

Yes so true. Obviously an odd run won't knock off massive calorie intake but consistent steps definitely help. I'm out tonight guys, it's burger and chip night and I just want to eat.. I'm exhausted, it's cold etc...

Octopus37 · 22/01/2021 19:02

Out as well, although I've just eaten Dominos cause I was too exhausted to move. Have done well with water and steps though today.

I went over target today which is annoying. Hopefully it won't matter and i'm looking forward to my more relaxed weekend. We're having a restaurant take away tomorrow, slow cooked blade of lamb and dauphinoise potatoes, yum!

TheHoneyBadger · 23/01/2021 01:36

I've properly binged on crisps and chocolate tonight. Annoyed with myself that I'm undoing all of my good work. The plan is lots of activity tomorrow at least.

drspouse · 23/01/2021 07:17

Just weighed myself and it's no loss this week but I've lost loads so far and my goal is only 1/2 lb per week so I've well exceeded that so far.
My weekend last week was a bit over so I'll try and be more reasonable this week.

IDontMindMarmite · 23/01/2021 07:58

I've just weighed myself with some trepidation as I didn't have a BM, I've been so up and down lately and it was bloody cold getting my kit off. Anyway, I've had a whoosh! I'm now 1lb below my pre Christmas weight and fully back to maintenance goals.

I've got one of those smart scales that tells you your fat content, water content etc. Does anyone know if they're at all accurate? (It's the first time I've actually dared look at it! When we got them almost a year ago they recorded a higher number than I was willing to look at Grin) It says it's calculated from your height, weight and age and without those caliper things I'm assuming it's not based on me but a guesstimate based on population norms.

Octopus37 · 23/01/2021 09:35

Well done I dont mind marmite. I avoided the scales today after a Dominos last night (same old same old), will weigh tomorrow. Cannot get my head round eating well at the moment somehow, just feel tired, sluggish, a bit achey, not great. Going to try and do well with my water again today and I'm going out to do some work later so should do reasonably well with my steps.

drspouse · 23/01/2021 09:46

@IDontMindMarmite they use how much your body conducts electricity as fat and water are different.
