Jiving into January

Thought I would keep with the dancing theme. Happy New Year to everyone. Lets all hope for a much safer 2021.

Even though I wasn't planning to weigh in this morning, I did out of habit and weighed in at 9st5. Take away (very delayed) last night, so not surprised. My aim is to be 9st1ish by the end of January. I'm hoping to get a couple of pounds off for my Birthday on the 9th.

One for you skinny beans. Are the last few pounds worth the cost?

IDontMindMarmite · 26/01/2021 19:56

Gotta love Jordan Syatt! I watched the video and he's right that I am afraid of upping my calories in case I ruin everything. I had already increased my daily target by 200 a day though after realising that I miscalculated my calorie cycling plan. I will try to relax into it.

TheHoneyBadger · 26/01/2021 20:52

I just think he makes the very good point that the last few pounds cost a lot in terms of restrictions and deprivation and maybe the focus at that point would be better placed on strength and muscle mass or energy levels etc in line with what can your body do rather than what does it look like or a magical number you have in mind.

HB the stepper starts off very stiff but after you've been going a few minutes the resistance goes down. But conversely, it's actually when the resistance is lower that you really work up a sweat because you're stepping fast, whereas at the beginning when it's really stiff it's like you're walking upstairs really slowly and have to wait for the step to go down.

I'm definitely enjoying having some way to exercise while watching TV. I'd feel so bleugh stuck at home otherwise.

Octopus37 · 27/01/2021 08:15

Glad you are enjoying having your stepper Monochrome, quite tempted to get something like that. Its a no weigh day for me today, but going to try to eat less.

Just watched the Jordan Syatt video, really enjoyed it. It makes a lot of sense. For now I'm going to make it my new goal to very slowly get down to 8st12, at the moment that 6 and a half pounds so will probably take me a while. Its interesting that he says you can eat more than you think to loose weight. Will be watching more of his videos.

Yep it was a good recommendation thanks Mono. Ds is getting use out of it too.

I don't know if this is just how it is currently or an ongoing thing to follow but for quite a few days I was ending up eating earlier in the day having a proper cooked lunch with ds and I didn't feel so hungry at night and did less snacking. Normally that doesn't hold true for me as whenever I start eating I feel hungry for the rest of the day. I haven't eaten yet today because I just signed off from working but it's interesting.

My fitbit screen has died but I had a lovely long chat with an american customer services lady yesterday and a new replacement is on it's way out to me. They are pricey but their customer service is great. All of my activity still shows on the app I just can't see anything on the watch screen.

I'm going to have to brave the scales one of these days.

Monochrome4 · 27/01/2021 16:34

I enjoyed the Jordan Syatt video. He's a sensible chap. "Focus on what your body can do, not what it looks like."

IDontMindMarmite · 27/01/2021 18:50

And the wise words of Alanis Morissette: "I see my body as an instrument, rather than an ornament."

TheHoneyBadger · 27/01/2021 19:06

We had takeaway for the first time in a while but it wasn't too unhealthy. It was shish chicken with roast peppers and salad and a small portion of mixed rice and couscous. I gave ds most of my bread and he also had at least half of my couscous and rice as he loved it in exchange for some of his chicken because it was dry apparently.

Portions weren't too big and it was lots of flavour without anything fried so fairly good choice I reckon.

That's it for food today for me hopefully 🙏

IDontMindMarmite · 27/01/2021 19:48

Evening all! I gave blood today and then probably almost gave myself a sugar coma. My capacity for chocolate/biscuits/cookies astounds me. Anyways, it's totally justified as my body needs extra energy to regenerate all that blood.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/01/2021 19:59

900 calories needed to restock blood levels apparently. I'm giving again in April

IDontMindMarmite · 27/01/2021 20:06

Apparently more people are giving blood lately which is great.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/01/2021 20:46

Yes. I'm technically able to donate from mid Match but first appointment at a location I can get to is in April.

I had sliver of the cake I baked yesterday. Yes calories but very tasty and ds loves it when I back.

That really is the kitchen closed now.

IDontMindMarmite · 27/01/2021 20:48

ooh i love cake, what flavour did you make?

Octopus37 · 28/01/2021 08:29

HoneyBadger, your takeaway sounds great, I wish my kids would eat stuff like that. Good on you for giving blood I dont mind marmite, I will sign up to donate this year I haven't donated since before the kids but I'm a bit nearer the centre now, dont know if its open though at the moment with covid. Steps and water good yesterday, food not so, weighed 9st4.5. Also did youtube belly dancing workout. Very unmotivated still tbh but hoping that will improve soon.

It was coffee.

Horrible number glimpsed on the scales. Not sure how much of that I can blame on no bm.

IDontMindMarmite · 28/01/2021 08:45

Blood donation is considered essential so they should be open.

I have a terrible night's sleep. Up between 3.30 and 5am for no reason. Can you be too tired to sleep?

Drink more water everyone.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/01/2021 09:30

Will do. Yes I think tiredness and poor sleep can be self perpetuating. I was having awful sleep with very early waking for ages then this week I had 2 epically long sleeps where my body was presumably catching up. Are you working from home?

TheHoneyBadger · 28/01/2021 11:12

I've come to the devastating decision that I'm going to have to start counting calories. Not happy about it but I'm sick of being fat and my middle aged hypothyroidism body is not responding like it once did to subtler changes.

I don't know how consistent I'm going to be with it or how strictly I'll adhere to it but it has to be part of the tool kit I think.

Not a happy bunny but needs must. Have turned on the food tracker and calorie deficit goal on my Fitbit app so for now just want to watch and see what figure that comes up with against my average calorie burn and get an idea of what I should be aiming for.

IDontMindMarmite · 28/01/2021 11:14

Yes working from home and missed my evening walk last night, but i was more tired than usual after giving blood so I can't understand it.

No need to skulk in Rhubarb! You might as well be dramatic about it and make a grand entrance Grin

IDontMindMarmite · 28/01/2021 11:17

What do you dislike so much about calorie counting badger?

TheHoneyBadger · 28/01/2021 11:24

It just feels obsessive and neurotic and I associate it with feeling hungrier because of the obsession with food. It's petulant I know.

I don't think working from home helps sleep for some reason.

IDontMindMarmite · 28/01/2021 11:34

Ah, well if that's your experience then that's what it is. I get it. I think it can be obsessive especially at first. For me, after a while, I did fall into a rhythm, same breakfast every day, and a stock of regular lunch and dinner recipes that were the right calorie ballpark so I didn't have a fuss about it and I know what I can have snack wise. But it did take time to be fair.

Has anyone got the Pinch of Nom recipe books? I just bought one and there are loads of nice looking things. A lot of Quark though? I've never tried it, my sister tells me it's disgusting....
