I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Hope its a good day and a good week all x

Hello 10K - glad to hear you're all settled. Bit of a re-start here too, after a treat-full weekend!

LarsErickssong · 29/03/2021 11:30

@ajandjjmum

Should have said - more importantly - no access to toilets!
Yes this is my issue too! We've been trying to go out as early as possible so that we haven't drank much beforehand otherwise I'm desperate for a wee before even half way

Glad to hear you are settled and back on it @10KaDay maybe give it a few days for the until water weight to drop off before tackling the scales.

One of the lbs I lost last week has reappeared but AF was here and I just could not stop snacking so at least I know why! Going to try my best this week and try not to stray to far over Easter weekend although we already have a chippy planned for Friday when we go to see MIL in the garden.

Exercise wise weather is looking ok so hopefully plenty of steps and I'll try and fit a couple of cardio classes in too, counting down the days until the gym reopens now! Thinking about it I might get the bikes out and cleaned up as well and aim to do a couple of bikes rides next weekend.

Hello Everyone - its Monday, and I haven't posted on this thread for a while!

@LarsErickssong, @ajandjjmum - how is it going? Are any of the other posters on the thread still about?

I've managed to get loads of steps in every day since I moved (its a month today) - moving things, stripping wallpaper, pulling out tons of dead ivy in garden etc... lots of unplanned work so several rooms are out of commision, which is making formal exercise more tricky, but that should be sorted by end of this week so I can get back to it

I have been a bit poor on the healthy eating too, but managed to buy some fruit, veg & healthy choices at the weekend so getting back into it!

How is everyone else doing?

@10KaDay you must have read my mind as I was just thinking this morning I really need to get back on the MN thread! It's great to hear you've still been managing to hit your steps, moving is so stressful I'm not surprised the healthy eating has slipped a bit Smile

After my week off in March I've really struggled to get back into it, my food hasn't been horrendous but I've just not been able to stop snacking and I've not been great at my steps, I really got out of the rhythm of going for a walk every morning and lunch.

I realised yesterday though it's only 5 weeks until we go on holiday (well fingers crossed, it's only a week in Northumberland) so as of today I'm back on it properly!! It's going to be a real struggle now pubs are reopen as my social life is normally my biggest downfall and we have something booked most weeks, but it just means I'm going to have to focus twice as hard through the week and not let one bad meal at the weekend cause the whole weekend to slip.

My plan for today was to get up and go for a walk, go for another walk at lunch and do a gym class tonight but typically I've woken up with a really bad back Sad. So I've decided to take it easy today and hopefully manage to make up the steps through the rest of the week. I've got two slots booked in at the gym so hopefully I'll manage to make those and I might try and get out on my bike one night.

I hope everyone who is still around has a great week!

LarsErickssong · 23/04/2021 11:07

Checking in ahead of what's going to be a hard weekend!

I've managed to lose 4lbs since Monday (I stepped on the scales about 4 times to check they were right ) despite having a slow start to the week steps wise as my back was really bad. I've slowly been making up the extra steps as I really want to hit 70k this week.

We are meeting friends at a pop up food/drink thing tomorrow and then going for a few drinks somewhere else afterwards and then going out for lunch on Sunday so the rest of the weekend needs to be damage limitation, I need to find a way to still be able to socialise but keep my overall weight down over the course of the week so I'm hoping my plan to be good at all other times will help! I'm also not going to pretend that once I've had a drink the diet won't go out the window tomorrow so on Sunday I've said I'll drive and I'm going to limit myself to 2 courses and a cocktail (it's our favourite place and it would normally be 3 courses, wine and lots of cocktails!). Steak and air fryer chips tonight which fits in with my calories today and after we've been out on Sunday I'm hoping a bowl of soup will be enough for my tea.

@10KaDay I hope you've had a good week and are managing to get back into the swing of things? I can't even describe the hunger I felt on Monday/Tuesday but I knew it would pass after a few days and thank god it did, it's just so hard getting back into it Smile

Hello @10KaDay and @LarsErickssong
I've been missing for so long - sorry - no excuses just the thread disappeared from my list!
Hope you're both keeping up the steps and feeling good. And anyone else who was part of this thread!
I'm still doing the steps but the healthy eating seems to have disappeared - especially today as we ate out - indoors! Such excitement!
Long walk planned for tomorrow though, although these continual showers really haven't helped.
Here's hoping for a bit of sunshine.

10KaDay · 17/05/2021 19:15

Hello @ajandjjmum and also Lars (who has been the most dedicated on this thread)

Well, 2 months into the new house, phase 1 of work over & today I finally did my first workout in the new house - a step in the right direction

I haven't been eating as well as I'd like (I've had more takeaways in the last 2 months than the last 20 years), and I have probably gained a LITTLE pudge (I don't want to look at the scales), but I have managed to stay very active with the renovations/unpacking

Today was decent - I managed a banana & cereal bar at breakfast (rushing, didn't need the sugar tbh), omelette (w bread) at lunch, now going to make a bean chilli with potatoes & veg for dinner. Not as healthy by any means as the meals I was having in Jan & Feb that got the weight off but not total rubbish either

Goal for this week is: workout daily, hit the 10k steps daily, & get back to healthy eating!

Would love to get this thread fully back up and running again, it was a great help before :)

ajandjjmum · 17/05/2021 19:20

Me too - it was my place where I could come and moan or brag, without getting the blank looks that DH throws me when I try to do the same with him!

Having eaten out at lunchtime (not carefully!), it'll be homemade soup tonight and conscious eating from tomorrow.

LarsErickssong · 18/05/2021 10:03

Hello! I'm still here plodding along... my weight had increased a bit since mid March but I've not been hitting anywhere near 10k steps as I've had a really bad knee and there's definitely been a few extra snacks sneaking in. I go on on holiday this weekend so these last two weeks I've still be resting my knee but tried harder with food and I'm hoping to be back down to my lowest weight by Friday (although AF is currently throwing a spanner in the works ).

I'm going out for tea tonight (indoors woop woop) so just going to have a small lunch to see me through but the rest of the weeks meals are planned and healthy. We go away on Sunday to Northumberland so there's going to be lots of steps next week, I'm really hoping my knee holds up as one we are back I would like to get back into going to the gym (I've been a few times but ended up being in agony the next day). If it doesn't I think I'm going to have to go a see a physio/sports therapist about it.

Like you this thread was really helping me and I'm determined to crack back on with it once I'm back off my holiday as it was my week off in March that threw me off track last time. I bought a leather jacket a couple of years ago that I was so determined to fit into by the time pubs etc opened so I was feeling annoyed with myself when I tried it on last night and the arms are still too tight, fitting into it really is my biggest aim at the minute!!

ajandjjmum · 18/05/2021 11:50

The leather jacket sounds like a great target Lars! My clothes feel a little loser - but they were far too tight. Do you use a support for your knee? I know DD finds it helpful when her knees are sore. Hope you get some good weather in Northumberland!

Finally got to my 10,000 steps last night marching up and down, while I watched the recording of Corrie! :) Started with a walk this morning, and plan another early afternoon, so hope I can relax tonight. Going to cut out alcohol again - I was very good, but then started having the odd drink two or three evenings a week, and it becomes a habit!

Hope your day is going well @10KaDay.

10KaDay · 18/05/2021 11:59

@ajandjjmum - great to hear from you, & well done on the 10K! I think reducing empty alcohol calories sounds a good idea.. I have been v guilty on this point!

Today I have -

  • resynchronised the fit bit app so I can track properly again
  • done an online shop (& booked the next one) - as this vs randomly throwing bits in when going round supermarket helps me eat better

I didn't manage a workout this morning, but will go for an afternoon walk

Pleased we are back in business... now that its possible to go out again there is a lot of motivation to shape up, & I also need to get back into my workwear... I've largely maintained most of the weight in lost in Jan & esp Feb, but last 2 months I've not been eating healthy & lost some fitness. My goal is to be back where I was by end of this month

OP posts:
LarsErickssong · 19/05/2021 11:02

@ajandjjmum I've just started using a support last week which has made a huge difference so I'm hoping it will hold up with all the walking I'll be doing next week, weather was looking crap but the forecast is looking more promising now thankfully!

I agree re the alcohol I had cut down to having a drink once a fortnight but it's so much harder now things are opening up, I stuck to Coke Zero when I was out last night though and I'm going to try not to go crazy when we are away next week, I'm a sucker for drinking every night 'because I'm on holiday'!!

@10KaDay Good to hear from you! It sounds like you are ready to get back on it! Like you after 6 weeks of barely walking/no gym classes I've definitely lost fitness but I'm hoping once I start again I can get back into it quickly, although I am dreading the first HIIT class back in person at the gym since November, when doing them at home I just didn't do the hard bits I didn't like Grin

ajandjjmum · 20/05/2021 15:32

Well looking at the wind outside, I have no plans whatsoever of doing my 10,000 steps outdoors today! Been a bit of a repeat story lately.
I'm always surprised at how many steps I add up if I walk around the house on a phone call - just shows I talk too much. Better get making some calls.....

I weigh myself every morning, and have noticed the average settling at a couple of lbs more than my 'best', so am making a special effort to start a downward trend again. It's just at the end of the day that I need to find some inner strength - especially as DH has left a large packet of Cadbury Buttons on the worksurface for the last couple of days, to tempt me. Hmm

Hope you're both having a great day!

LarsErickssong · 20/05/2021 21:37

Yes it's so much harder when the weather is like this! I'm also sitting 2lbs heavier than my lowest and no doubt I'll gain a couple of lbs next week but I'm really determined not to mess about after the bank holiday weekend.

Done 4.5k steps today which is a lot for me in recent times I'm feeling so sluggish at the moment I can really tell that I've bot been doing enough exercise. I hope you've managed to get a good number of steps in despite the weather!

How have your first couple of days gone @10KaDay ?

10kaDay · 20/05/2021 21:58

Good to hear from you Lars! At 6k today and eating not brilliant but better than yesterday... getting there slowly!

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 22/05/2021 19:52

Just got back from a lovely long walk - rain held off, and the sun mainly shone! Very tempted by the same bag of giant chocolate buttons though - have a feeling I might be giving in tonight.

Hope you both have a happy weekend.

LarsErickssong · 22/05/2021 20:57

I'm gutted as we went shopping and then for a walk today, it will have been the most steps I've done in a while BUT I forgot to take my Fitbit off charge and put it on! My phone reckons I've done 9k so happy with that.
Eating has already gone downhill and I drank last night and just sipping a gin now...

@10kaDay slow and steady wins the race, it's great that you have kept most of the weight you lost off! I find it's so hard to cut back down on snacking.

I'm hoping to get back into my steps this week on holiday but it's going to be tough trying not too eat/drink too badly.

Hope you both e joy the rest of your weekend Smile

ajandjjmum · 23/05/2021 08:44

I measured my steps on my phone for months, but obviously it wasn't always with me, so my brother bought me a fitness watch which I wear. Trouble is, after around 10,000 steps, the watch is always around 2,000 steps behind the phone. I don't know which is correct - particularly when googling it says that the iphone under-records steps by about 20%. Technology is great when it works!

Lots of housework and ironing planned for today (I know how to live!), so hopefully will tot up quite a few steps indoors before I go for a little wander.

Enjoy your Sunday!

ajandjjmum · 23/05/2021 08:44

And I ate the WHOLE packet of giant buttons!

LarsErickssong · 24/05/2021 21:27

Buttons sharing bags are the devil especially the new chocolate orange ones Blush you were very restrained lasting so long!

Sharing my steps as even though it was a bad week I need to be more accountable, as you can see this week is off to a good start steps wise and my knee is holding up ok so hoping it stays that way. Hopefully the steps will off set sone of the calories being consumed...

Hope your weeks have started well!

ajandjjmum · 25/05/2021 11:14

Goodness Lars - you went for it on Monday! DH and I are meeting friends for a drink at a pub about three miles away tonight, so we're planning to walk there along the canal. And maybe wobble back along the roads rather than the canal!

Still struggling with motivation. I do find that the steps add up when I'm doing circuits of the house whilst talking on the phone - especially when the weather's crap.

Moved from the chocolate buttons on to home-made scones and cake. Weight is holding, but I really need to start getting it down again. Maybe now the weather is brightening up my mojo will return!

LarsErickssong · 31/05/2021 20:50

@ajandjjmum sorry for the very delayed reply! I hope you had a lovely meal out and the better weather has brought some motivation with it?

Managed a whopping amount of steps whilst away but also consumed a whopping amount of calories! I'm hoping this better weather will help me to keep motivated once I'm back at work tomorrow, I really need to try these next couple of weeks as I've got the dreaded doctors again and my weight is still up on last time . We've got a family bbq this weekend and DP has taken a job 200 miles away down south so the next few weekends are going to be pretty hectic seeing friends (aka going for meals and drinks) before he moves. On a positive note (well positive for my weight loss) I won't be seeing him as often and he is obviously the one who causes me to eat crap at the weekends so once he's moved I'll lose loads of weight, right?

@10kaDay I know you've been quiet but do keeping checking in even if you are struggling, always happy to try and help!
