I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Gahhh FAFFING not gagging!

ajandjjmum · 25/02/2021 09:27

That has to be good news Lars! Hope you're feeling better soon. Funnily enough my blood pressure readings are much lower than they have been for years, so hopefully that will keep the GP happy.

I have lost a stone since my HbA1c reading of 58 just before Christmas, and the last test I had was 48. Need to talk to my GP as I would rather not be labelled diabetic if possible - although his receptionist told me to make an appointment with the nurse as a new diabetic patient! Sad That's knocked my motivation - but I HAVE to keep on, as I can see some results.

Hope the next 3 weeks go as smoothly as they can @10KaDay - try to take some time for yourself though - mind-clearing walks sound good! Although I know it's tough to find the time. Smile

LarsErickssong · 25/02/2021 21:11

@ajandjjmum feeling much better tonight thank you, I hadn't thought of the effect on my blood pressure. The last time I checked it was in December and the Dr was making noises that it was bordering on high so hopefully by mid March when I have my next appointment that will have decreased too.
It's so hard not to get disheartened sometimes, hopefully by your next appointment you will get an even better score and be knocked off the list as being diabetic. I'm hoping to lose another 4lbs before my next Drs appointment and even though he wanted me to lose more I'm hoping he will be kinder if he sees I'm heading in the right direction!
Not sure what weekend plans are here yet but determined not to throw a good week eating wise down the drain.

LarsErickssong · 28/02/2021 21:31

Checking in at the end of another week, I can't believe I've actually managed to stick to doing this many steps!
As you can see after being ill mid week my steps took a hit but really happy that I've managed to pull it back these last couple of days. Bit annoyed as I lost 2lbs but they've since re appeared so I'm not sure if I had lost them because I was ill or something! 2 weeks until I'm back at the drs so I need to really focus these next 2 weeks, that also then coincides with a week off work which I'm going to use to have a little break from the diet (but hopefully smash the steps).
Good forecast here for the week ahead so hoping the steps shouldn't feel too much of an effort, it's amazing how easy it feels getting 10k now compared to the start of January!
Hoping everyone else has had a good week and sending positive thoughts for the week ahead Smile

@LarsErickssong: well done! I stupidly didn’t put my Fitbit on yesterday then spent whole day on my feet sorting/decluttering

Plans for move coming together so hopefully will manage some walks in next 2 weeks and then be back on a losing streak 😀

Hoping everyone has a great start to the week

Hi everybody, I’m amazed that I managed so many steps this week and it definitely feels easier than it did even the week before. I really find i need to stretch though, and preferably a mini stretch a few times a day. Weight wise I’ve been weighing every day and my average weight is down 2lbs. I have to talk sternly to myself not to be disappointed that it isn’t 4lbs. It does sometimes feel like there’s such a long way to go and I’m not a very patient person. I need to remember too that, as you were saying 10kaday you don’t have to wait until the end to see the benefit. The first 2 stones off will mean I can wear my summer clothes.
I was a bit off piste at the weekend with food but not too bad I don’t think. I really only stopped tracking last evening which isn’t great but could have been a lot worse.
Hope everybody has a good week!

Morning everyone - hope we all have a great week!

My weight bobs up and down - it's like two steps forward and one back, but the overall trajectory is down, so I'm going with that.

Keeping up with my steps, and I have to say that it's no hardship on days like yesterday, when it really felt like Spring was on it's way.

A little more flexible on the food front than I should be - but on the whole, sticking to cutting the carbs. It was our local shops fault - I mean, who would put orange Twirls by the checkout??!!!

LarsErickssong · 01/03/2021 10:29

@Inchbyinch wow brilliant steps! I've found it's only in the last couple of weeks that my back isn't sore anymore after walking, at the start I was coming back from a walk and having to stretch my back for 5 minutes afterwards otherwise I would be in agony for the rest of the day.
@ajandjjmum I'm the same re weight feeling like two steps forward and one back like you say though it's generally going in the right direction so I need to remember not to get too disheartened, and how dare they put orange twirls by the tills! Totally not you're fault at all I would've done the same Grin

ajandjjmum · 08/03/2021 11:21

Another week. Kept up my steps and half watched what I'm eating! Still bobbing about weight wise, but not taking it too seriously. First appointment with the diabetic nurse tomorrow - fingers crossed it won't be too confusing.

Hope life is treating everyone well - or at least, not draining us of motivation completely. Smile

LarsErickssong · 08/03/2021 12:19

Decent week here and another lb off (the scales this morning were desperately trying to drop another pound and flickered for ages so hopefully that one will be gone tomorrow!).
I've got to ring the drs on Friday and tell them my weight and BP so I need to be super duper good this week but I'm on annual leave from Friday so once that's done I'm going to have a bit of a week off and not worry about calories etc although will still be trying to keep to 10k steps.

@ajandjjmum good luck for your appointment tomorrow I hope it goes well, I can imagine it's daunting but hopefully you will come away feeling more positive. Also I think that if you are managing to stay around the same weight without putting too much effort in then that's a good thing!

Sending positive thoughts to everyone for the week ahead and hoping @10kaDay isn't getting too stressed with the move Smile

Hello, think I lost the thread somehow. Sounds like everyone doing well. Better weather coming to us!

@Inchbyinch your steps are mega impressive! I did 19k on Saturday & was knackered!

I've 1.5lb off today so happy enough.

Inchbyinch · 08/03/2021 21:30

Managed my 70,000 steps this week but really didn’t do well with food and wine, had some really incredibly stressful and shocking things happen this week and wasn’t able to maintain any discipline at all! I’m hoping I’ll get some kind of equilibrium this week and I’m trying not to be too hard on myself but I’m really so fed up with being this size that I just want it changed immediately. Good luck all! I hope the medical appts go well.

10KaDay · 09/03/2021 14:39

Hello Ladies - great to hear you all doing so well!!

Well done on the weight loss @Inchbyinch (sounds like you are in teh ZONE) @buckeejit!

and well done on the steps @ajandjjmum, @LarsErickssong!

Last week was a bit low on the steps, but had a really good day on Sunday with 16K steps (my knees hurt afterward). Feels like Spring is here, & much easier to walk/get up for workouts, and also eat healthy... Not that I have been, as reached the point when there isn;t really much to eat in the house (oven chips & beans for dinner) so need to either carry on with the weird food or crack & buy some groceries Grin

Am looking forward to getting back on the stepping in force after the move next week... love reading your updates in the meantime!

Morning! Weigh in day for me. I've been a little lax this week but delighted to have 2.5lb off. If I was using my old scales that would be rounded to my 2 stone off! Huzzah!! Just 4.5lb to go to my first goal.

Have been eating a lot of roasted cauliflower & loving it! Will try to have a good week, although bank holiday here on Wed & also a half bottle of wine left from last night, that it would be a shame to waste 🤪. Back to school has lowered my steps by a coup,e of k daily but still making the 10k.

Hope everyone else is going well & @10KaDay hope the move has gone well!

10kaDay · 15/03/2021 12:22

@buckeejit... I’m calling it 2 stone, wow, amazing results!!!!

Move day is this Friday, so packing this weekend & bringing boxes (of mostly useless clutter Grin ) down from the loft is keeping me active! Am looking forward to stepping on it properly very soon x

Oh good luck @10KaDay - its so all consuming & tiring physically and mentallly when you move. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and you get to relax at the other end of it!

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2021 08:21

Busy week for you @10KaDay. Bet you're totting up the steps in the house at the moment!

Fantastic @buckeejit!

Held my weight and keeping up my steps, but this is my birthday week, so I'm expecting a few blips.

LarsErickssong · 22/03/2021 19:09

Checking back in after a terrible couple of weeks . Good week steps wise last week as I was off work so it was easy however I don't even want to admit to myself how many takeaways/cakes/bottles of wine were consumed! I was going to wait a few days to weigh myself as I was worried the horrendous number on the scales would send me into downward spiral however I knew if I didn't weigh myself I would struggle to get back into it...4lbs on which tbh I thought it would be at least 7lbs so that's a positive! Aim is to get those 4lbs back off by Easter.
Kicked the week off with 2 walks and a gym class today, hoping the weather stays dry and I can continue to get out for plenty of walks.

@10kaDay I hope the move went as smoothly as possible and you got plenty of steps packing and unpacking!

Hope everyone else is getting on ok Smile

Hello Everyone- and don’t worry @LarsErickssong, I’ve just been having an Indian takeaway Blush

Move has gone well, love the new house? Lots of steps but not very good eating ... new kitchen though so nice to eat outside etc!!

I will be getting back into the swing of things now : back to work tomorrow, so getting on top of it is objective for this week, & also getting back on my 10k a day!

ajandjjmum · 23/03/2021 11:07

Glad the move went well @10KaDay. You're not the only one who's slipped @LarsErickssong - had a few days where treats have kept me going. I've just packed up the last of the home bakes to give to our 'oldies' - not being kind, just removing temptation. DD is back to London in a couple of weeks, so although it'll be strange to see her go, the lack of baking will be positive. Smile

In the meantime, I'm keeping to about 10k steps a day, and at times, quite enjoying it. Just when I have another couple of thousand to stamp out in my bedroom before going to sleep that it gets irritating!

LarsErickssong · 23/03/2021 13:25

@10kaDay I'm glad the move went well!

@ajandjjmum home baking is my downfall too, when I'm bored at the weekends it's my go to activity especially during lockdown when there's not much else to do!! I'm patiently waiting for the lovely weather we had this time last year to appear as that definitely makes the steps a hell of a lot easier!

ajandjjmum · 26/03/2021 09:42

Down a lb today. Tomorrow and probably for a few days later it will bob up and down and then hopefully settle before I see another (small) loss. But that's OK. I have my mind set to this now and am just accepting that this is how my body works. Not cutting out all naughty food, just living a slightly adapted life!

Just had to share with you as no-one else understands the mental value of that 1 lb!!! Grin

Hope everyone's having a good week.

LarsErickssong · 26/03/2021 19:26

@ajandjjmum haha I know what you mean about sharing on here, DP is happy for me when I tell him I've lost weight but he doesn't understand, well done though!

I've so far lost 2 of the 4lbs I put on so I'm happy with that Smile

ajandjjmum · 28/03/2021 11:15

Well done Lars! It all counts.

Went on a mammoth walk yesterday, having dehydrated myself beforehand! Pubs/cafes being closed is a real pain at the moment.

Hope the house sorting out is going well 10k.

ajandjjmum · 28/03/2021 11:15

Should have said - more importantly - no access to toilets!
