I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Hello all, I’m still here! Although my steps have been ridiculously low the last few days as we’ve had a lot of snow where I am and the pavements are covered in ice so I’ve stayed in the house for the last few days as I’m terrified of falling over and injuring my back (had surgery on it in December so I’m being careful) but trying to keep active in the house and going on my exercise bike.

I’ve been doing well on the healthy eating front. I’m letting myself have a more relaxed day tomorrow as it’s my wedding anniversary and we’ve ordered a mezze meal kit from a restaurant so I’ll let myself have what I like tomorrow evening as I’ve been quite restrictive since beginning of Jan so deserve one evening off calorie counting I reckon!

TaraR2020 · 12/02/2021 21:51

OK, so I'll join you amazing people.

You've caught me in a weak moment!

I've put on a half a stone since November and that's half a stone I'd already lost once in my Lose 3.5 Stone goal.

I might chicken out tomorrow, but I've become a couch potato this lockdown.

Health conditions mean I might not manage 10k a day but im going to aim for half that and build up!

Congratulations for doing so well so far, you inspiring bunch!

10kaDay · 12/02/2021 21:56

@SunscreenCentral... I think I missed a critical point on your last post, 16.5 pounds since January 2nd 🎉🎉🎉🎉

You must be seeing/feeling the difference! Here’s to the next ten pounds 🏅

Hey @NoJetter- great to hear from you! The mezze kit sounds lovely, and your wedding anniversary is an occasion to celebrate! The Kit will still be healthy vs a meal out I’m sure - and I think a lot of us will be taking a break for a day/meal this weekend!

Hello! I have had to name change after an epic phone and password fail. I was Jemmy360.

Have been stepping and ring fitting like a boss. Glad to have found you all again.

zigzagbetty · 13/02/2021 06:27

Hi 👋 can I join you all. I have morphed into a blob during wfh and barely do any steps a day. So down about the weight I've put on and need to get moving. Just read the thread and you are all so motivating.

LarsErickssong · 13/02/2021 07:47

@SunscreenCentral 16.5lbs is amazing! Still only 6lbs off here so really need to pick things up as I want another 8 off by mid March when I'm back at the drs!

@10kaDay I saw an interesting video this week about the 'whoosh' effect. I have heard of it before but never knew the science behind it but this video explained it really well (it came up on fb and I should've saved it!), it's basically where due to the way fat cells work we will naturally have plateaus whilst losing weight but then all off a sudden there's a 'whoosh' and a few drop off. I won't attempt to explain the science behind it but you never know maybe you are due a whoosh!

@NoJetter its definitely not worth risking your back if it's icy where you are, I hope you have a lovely wedding anniversary the mezze sounds delicious (and probably one of the healthier takeaway options!).

@TaraR2020 and @zigzagbetty welcome! As you can see from earlier in the thread I have gradually built up to doing more steps and this week is actually the first week I will have averaged 10k/day but it felt so much easier now that I've built up to it then it did at the start of January!

Pretty good week here so far and I'm really going to try not to blow it this weekend, I just struggle so much with temptation at the weekends! We did have a takeaway last night but we had a Nando's as even though it's not my favourite, there is a full nutrition calculator on their website so I was able to plan my meal and pretty much stay within my calories for the day! I'm going to have a bottle of wine tonight but food wise I'm going to try and stick to my calories Smile Hope everyone else has a great weekend.

Bumwart21 · 13/02/2021 12:03

I really want to join please.. been reading this thread since it started and can't believe how well you have all done so far. I'm going to start tomorrow. I've got a lot to lose, 5 stone!!! So a long road ahead but I really need to start easy so doing 10k steps a day is ideal for me being so heavy. Hopefully I'll be looking back in a month and seeing some great results :) so please keep going everyone keeps me motivated reading all the posts. X

Bumwart21 · 13/02/2021 12:09

My stats are
CW 16 stone 7lb
GW 11 stone 7 lb maybe 11 see when I get there lol!
I don't walk at all hardly so 10k should make a big difference.
I've got a fit bit and will start tracking tomorrow:) we can all do this 💪 good luck everyone. I'll update my weekly weigh in on every Monday from next Monday to keep track xxx

ajandjjmum · 13/02/2021 14:56

What is great about this thread is that there's no judgement, just encouragement. We all have our ups and downs. I've finally lost 1 lb after around 10 days of being static, but 10 lbs over the last 6 weeks, so I'm going to be happy with that!

Diet is a bit hit and miss, but I'm trying hard to minimise the carbs - but then get tempted by a crumble and custard! Grin I'm being reasonably good though.

What's great with this group is it's not too big, so everyone contributing becomes familiar, and a fantastic support network for those of us trying.

The one bit that I'm really being consistent with is the steps, with one or two long walks a week, my average is 10K +, which must be helping my HbA1c levels (very important as I have another blood test next week Shock)!

Hello to newcomers and oldies alike, hope everyone has a great weekend - and thanks @10kaDay for the thread, you will never know how useful it is to see everyone's experiences and struggles - and successes!

10kaDay · 13/02/2021 18:10

Hello @Bumwart21 (that doesn’t sound very comfortable 😉) and welcome back @SilkySuky

Thanks for the lovely comments @ajandjjmum and congratulations on getting that pound off!!

10k steps were done by lunchtime here, which is unheard of ... I had an appointment and some errands so walked instead of the car, and have been snoozing on the sofa since :)

I haven’t really lost weight as after a strong start I’ve been messing about in the food front last 2 weeks... no real reason, just seem to enjoy nibbling away 🙄

It’s been healthy stuff mostly so not fine loads of damage, but getting back to it after tonight’s dinner, but no booze/sweet stuff tonight as having a v cheesy lasagne plus garlic bread

It’s my birthday in a few weeks so going to make the effort to get a bit more off in the coming weeks (so another stone)

OP posts:
10kaDay · 13/02/2021 18:14

@Bumwart21: we have a similar goal weight, though at this point I’d declare anything starting with 12st a win!

If you’ve not been walking a lot, you might find it better to start with 5k for a few days, then 7/8/9 until you’re up to 10k. It definitely doesn’t have to all be at once or even outside... I do a lot of mine in the living room. I think it takes 1 1/2 hours or so to do 10k

OP posts:
10kaDay · 13/02/2021 18:18

@LarsErickssong .... I’ve been telling myself I’m due a ‘woosh’ too but I actually think my fat cells have been refilling with cracker crumbs Blush

Not too fussed as a plateau here and there on the way down isn’t so bad... learn what you can do while maintaining

OP posts:
LarsErickssong · 13/02/2021 18:20

12st is my first target which will be 3.5 stone off but I know that is still 'overweight' for my height so I might carry on a bit once I get there. Tbh once I can fit back into size 14's I'll be happy!

LarsErickssong · 13/02/2021 18:22

X-post @10kaDay it's definitely good that you've managed to maintain rather than gain whilst not 100% on plan Smile

TaraR2020 · 14/02/2021 00:38

Thank you, @10kaDay Smile

I'm pleased to report i did about 6000 today- set off at some speed too since it was bloody freezing lol

What is a bigger milestone for me though, and I only realised writing this, is that is the first time I've done so much in at least a year (I think nearer 2) without crashing and needing to sleep afterwards!

Must mean medications are finally having an effect - I've been signed off work for 2 years and I'm really hoping to reclaim my life this year so I'm sooo happy right now!

ajandjjmum · 14/02/2021 08:57

That's brill Tara - feeling well is so much more important than anything else.

Bumwart21 · 14/02/2021 12:10

Hey ya I'm back again 🤪
Haha I know such a lovely username I got myself Blush @10kaDay luckily no warts on my arse haha!

Few years ago I was 15 stone and got down to 12 stone which I looked fine at even though it still classed me as overweight but I would love to be 12 stone now so maybe I might set myself 12 again just so it doesn't seem so long to go.. then once I get to that can put it to 11..

I put the weight and more on after my son and not doing much plus being tired makes me reach for the junk.

Thats a great idea about doing it inside as sometimes when the weather is horrible I don't want to go out in it.. I might start doing a 40 min walk outside then doing the remainder at home if I'm not to knackered 😴 my legs do tend to get achy as I'm not use to using them that much the past year. I definitely feel slobbish and hate it, I use to do ct5k and 30 day shred back in the day but now I wouldn't be even able to attempt them until I lose about 2 stone first 😅

I do love reading this thread so please keep it going long term keeps me going especially reading all the posts.

We can all do this and I'm sure we will all be slim in no time :) well done everyone xxxxx

Bumwart21 · 14/02/2021 12:17

Plus its not just about the weight loss although that's the major thing but it would be nice to be glowing for once as my skin is horrid and dry and I feel permanently tired. So I'm going to make sure I drink 3liters of water a day (ditch the coke) and plenty fruit and veg I've set myself a limit of 1400/1500 cals a day as I've done 1200 before and found it to restrictive. Xxx

10kaDay · 14/02/2021 19:29

Evening all

@Bumwart21: this is definitely a long term thread, planning to go all year

@TaraR2020: well done on the steps, good to pace yourself

Not many steps today as have been poorly on sofa, but at least haven’t eaten loads 😉

SunscreenCentral · 14/02/2021 19:35

Such a great thread!! Lovely supportive vibes here 😻
I got out for a decent walk today and got in 10k. I also did a 5 min 2lbs weights workout for arms which I found ridiculously hard 😆 obvs I have a lot of work to do there!!

Keep it up everyone, eyes on the prize* 👀

What’s the “prize” for you? For me it’s getting back that bit of confidence that looking good/feeling good gives me. The ability to be able to wear really nice clothes instead of what hides/covers me will be an added bonus Star

SunscreenCentral · 14/02/2021 19:48

Ps weights are v hard to get hold of at the moment apparently so I made some using 2 small plastic water bottles and 4kg of fish-bowl/aquarium gravel from The Range if anyone else wanted to give it a go and doesn’t have weights lying around the house 🐠

10kaDay · 14/02/2021 20:05

@SunscreenCentral: very creative with the weights!
