I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Really happy as a managed to do 70k for the first time since starting, aiming to try and keep that up from now on. 3lbs off but they were the 3lbs I put on last weekend so I'm technically still the same weight as 10 days ago, I really want to get under 15st this week.
Going to do the food shop tonight and I've meal planned all the way until Sunday so I'm not tempted by takeaway this weekend, only one gym class booked in so far so need to try and fit a couple more in.
Good luck for the week ahead everyone Smile

I really admire those of you who are doing steps AND classes! I'm keeping up with a good number of steps, and am watching what I eat, although not counting calories. I was so wanting a naughty snack yesterday, so I had one of DD's home baked biscuits and a babybel, so all was not lost!

Here's to a great week for everyone!

10kaDay · 15/02/2021 11:41

Great and inspiring update @LarsErickssong!!

It’s been a return to healthy eating for me today too so let’s look ahead to a good week :)

Well done @LarsErickssong ! I had a hideous weekend for eating crap but am back on the plan now.

I've meal planned for the next 2 weeks and have gotten the kids to write at least 3 dinner suggestions on the magnetic calendar thing on the fridge that I got for Xmas so I don't feel like the whole food burden is on me.

Now the snow and ice has gone I'm taking the dog to the country park to do a good 3 miles today.

Have a good week everyone!

LarsErickssong · 16/02/2021 11:55

@SilkySuky getting the kids to help with ideas for meals is a great plan, I keep saying to DP that the thing I'm missing the most about this lockdown is being able to have a night off meal planning and go out for a meal, I'm not even that bothered about going out for drinks but I just want nice food not cooked by me!

10KaDay · 17/02/2021 14:55

Hi All, I've been woeful the last few days (due to being tired) but getting back there with healthy planned meals & no snacks coming in this week's grocery order

I'm excited about having a day off on Friday so a long walk is on the cards... How is everyone else doing?

Not a great few days here either, I didn't bother tracking calories yesterday as I couldn't be bothered working out what they would be for pancakes but that led to me then scoffing a load of Ferrero roche too Blush. And then I've not tracked today either as I got lunch from the hot counter at the local supermarket and didn't know the calories, which in turn led to more Ferrero Roche! They are all gone now though and I did have a healthy stir fry for tea so I really need to get back on it tomorrow. Only managed 6k steps yesterday but I'm on 8.5k today and will make sure I reach 10k by bed time. I just don't seem to be able to have two good weeks in a row.

SunscreenCentral · 17/02/2021 21:45

I’ve been really really bad on the exercise front. Except for Sunday when I walked for an hour to get a badge on my phone which didn’t materialise grrrrr...
I’ve been doing lots of other stuff that I’ve been procrastinating so that’s good.
And I’ve been kcal counting/fasting etc but I’m not going to weigh myself again until I “feel” or look a little bit smaller. I am waiting on my hips to rise out of the blubber, I know they’re in there somewhere 😆

ajandjjmum · 18/02/2021 12:13

Doesn't always work like that though @SunscreenCentral - I had a massive portion of cottage pie last night, still felt full this morning, and had dropped a pound! Every bit helps. Planning a long walk along the canal this afternoon - if the rain holds off.

LarsErickssong · 21/02/2021 19:44

Not a great week here but thought I best check in! I was really hoping to hit 70k steps again this week but lost my mojo towards the end of the week. I've still managed to lose a pound but I know I can do better so feeling a bit annoyed at myself! Gym classes booked for the week and the fridge is stocked with plenty of healthy stuff so onwards and upwards, or downwards should I say.
Hope everyone else is managing ok. Lockdown has definitely got to me this week and I've been feeling crappy in general so I'm hoping tomorrow's announcement will give us a little hope.

@ajandjjmum: well done on the pound off! (And sticking at it)

@SunscreenCentral: I’m hiding from the scales until I feel a bit thinner too :)

@LarsErickssong : also well done on the pound off, AND for being set this week :)

I had a very slow week after being under the weather to start it (and work has gone nuts) Have hit 10k last 2 days though so moving in the right direction. Good weather this weekend helping, and back up morning workouts this week

Just read the whole thread - hasn’t made me very productive work wise Blush- but I’ll make it up! I’d really like to join you, so much of what you are aiming for matches what I’m trying to do.
I’ve put on another stone during lockdown and I already needed to lose 3.5. I can’t believe those numbers as I’m typing them! I just don’t know how I’ve allowed this to creep up pretending to myself that it’s not so bad! In the last few weeks I’ve caught sight of my reflection and can’t believe my big wobbly chins! A chance sighting of a moving reflection is truly a terrible thing!
I think if I lost 2 stones I would be comfortably fitting into my summer clothes. There would obviously still be more to do but that’s what I’ll aim for first. I used to think I was an emotional eater, eating when feeling hassled, but I’ve really come to see that eating when bored is just as much if not more of a problem. I’m seeing my youngest child doing the same thing during lockdown and he’s really getting chubby so I’d love to get him moving more and feeling better too. I’m going to look at the switch game someone mentioned - I think it’s called ring fit?
Anyway I managed almost 70,000 steps over the week last week. My back is aching today and I think that’s related to doing more walking but I’m hoping it’ll gradually ease. I’m also aiming for 1400 calories per day and will allow up to 1200 additional calories to use as extras over the weekend. I’m really inspired by how well you’re all doing so thanks for the thread!

Will read your post later and reply properly @Inchbyinch(I’m working too Blush) but welcome aboard :)

Feeling better for the workout earlier, and on 5k steps so will walk in a bit

Keep on keeping on all Smile

So I didnt manage any noteworthy steps again until yesterday, when I did 10,000.

Really paid for it afterwards though - definitely need to get back to the physio before I do that many again!

TaraR2020 · 22/02/2021 18:47

@10kaDay

Here are this week’s stats - 2 obvious bad days on Monday & Today when I was feeling ill, but otherwise doing decently

Al looking forward to posting a solid 7 gold stars next week!

Looks like a brilliant week! Hope you're feeling better now?
NoJetter · 22/02/2021 18:47

Sounds like everyone is doing well on the steps! I’m walking a lot more recently. My back is still sore but I’ve been able to walk a lot more in the last few weeks. I’ve actually done 10k today as ds1 is back at preschool and walking there and back (40mins) and then the same to collect him has added lots of steps! Pushing ds2 in the pram too must have burnt some calories!

I lost half a kilo last week so I’m now down just over 6kg since the start of Jan. it seems to be slowing down a bit recently but that’s fine as long as it’s going in the right direction!

10kaDay · 22/02/2021 19:27

@TaraR2020 - that's inchbyinch's week, I am fiercely contesting those numbers for next week though :) I am feeling better thanks, and not going to beat myself up about a slow week last week - work stress and post AZ jab tiredness (was lucky to be in a position to get it!)

I have 4 weeks now til my house move, so going to push for at least a half stone off by then, and will give myself some grace on moving week as I think unpacking will give me loads of steps.

@NoJetter: well done on the weightloss AND the constructive/realistic attitude (pls can you send some of it my way?)

@Inchbyinch: thanks for sharing and joining! I was in the same place around Xmas, now 16 pounds lighter, and feeling a bit more limber. On top of weight loss, there are lots of mood/energy gains i've noticed.

I've lost a fair few pounds so now loads happier with my shape (the shape is due to exercise, the weight loss probably more eating).
I'm still a solid size 18 though and would like to be in my 14s again (14/16 is a maintainable weight for me, I look GREAT as a 12 but it doesn't seem to be easy for me to maintain) ... my point is even a bit off is great for health, mood and importantly, FASHION - especially as its seems with today's news we are finally about to be released back into the world

Onward and upward slenderizing into our spring and summer wardrobes all Grin

Oops, sorry @Inchbyinch - misapplied congratulations Blush

Glad you're feeling better, op - that half stone should fall off if you're busy preparing to move, last half stone i lost was for the same reason lol

10KaDay · 23/02/2021 21:13

😂😂😂 Tara - today has been so monumentally stressful (I was given an ultimatum about exchanging today or they would pull property off market) that I barely had time to eat so you may be right!

10KaDay · 25/02/2021 06:52

Hi all, just checking in Smile. Managed good walk yesterday, and will try to get out today if I can

My Fitbit hasn’t been syncing properly 😭 so not sure of all my steps ; if this continues I will replace it as I do need those numbers to keep me motivated

Had a couple of stressful days re house transaction so not eaten much which will help this week 😂 Am still trying to stick to it but realistically between work and the move I am quite stretched so accept that the next 3 weeks may not be what it d like them to be!

OP posts:
LarsErickssong · 25/02/2021 08:57

Not been a good week here as I've been feeling rubbish, I did a COVID test on Tuesday and still waiting for the result so not been able to get out for any walks, although I've not really felt up to it anyway! I'm feeling a lot better today so hoping my result comes through soon (and is hopefully negative) so I can get out for a good walk later, if not I'll try and get a couple of thousand round the house.
@10KaDay you've definitely got enough going on without having to think about food/exercise too, I would just do what you can over the next few weeks and not stress over it.

10KaDay · 25/02/2021 09:02

thanks @LarsErickssong! I hope its negative and you get back to feeling better soon. I overdid it the last time I wasn't feeling well, which was very counterproductive

I expect I will go on a few walks tbh as need to destress, but yes, just doing what I can and not worry about it too much. If I fall off the face of the earth, expect me back at end of March Grin

LarsErickssong · 25/02/2021 09:14

Negative result just come back, it's a lovely day here so will get out for a walk at lunchtime and then possibly again tonight if I'm still feeling ok Smile
In terms of Non scale victories, I was gagging about on the Fitbit app yesterday and noticed my resting heart rate has dropped significantly since the start of the year, I'm not sure what that actually means in terms of health (or how accurate it is) but I'm hoping it's a good thing!
