HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

fallfallfall · 29/12/2020 22:18

i'm still here :) i feel a name change might be due.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2020 22:27

Hi @fallfallfall I’m so pleased you’ve jumped right in again 😊. What are you fancying name wise?

A warm welcome @Monkeytennis97 & @LovingLivingLife, you’ve come to the right place! These threads have been going quite a while now ... 2 years I think. Loads of support, links, advice and hand holding if needed. I started them under a previous name that for some reason I got locked out of. MN is strange sometimes.

Hello. Never been on one of these before but wanting to lose weight in the new year. I have a horrible relationship with my body as my weight fluctuates an awful lot. Really want to be 8.5 stone again like I was summer 2019. Not sure on my current weight but I'm guessing around 12stone. That walking video looks good, i had covid in November and my cough is still terrible so can't do anything drastic. Good luck ladies Smile

Galvantula · 29/12/2020 23:26

Hello. Checking in for another month.

Having briefly hit my target from 5 years ago this month, I'd llike to see if I can get back there and maintain it this time... for more than a few weeks like the last 5 times.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. 👍

Galvantula · 29/12/2020 23:29

Forgot to say sticking with My Fitness Pal to keep me aware of what I'm eating.

Exercise = trying to get more walking in and thinking about doing some weights. ( only thinking so far but might get there😄)

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2020 23:43

Hello @Galvantula great to ‘see’ you and you’re very welcome. I find planning my meals and entering them into mfp really useful and help keeps me on track! I need more exercise! Struggle to do it consistently due to back injury but do my best.

A warm welcome @africanantelope. There are loads more of LS vids on YouTube, covering all levels of fitness. I also have some lite weights to work upper body, they do help build strength.

Hi can I join? I'm currently 76.4kg but want to get back down to 62kg (pre-baby weight). Although as DS is 4 now I can't keep calling it my baby weight. Working from home this year hasn't particularly helped either although am now back in the office again.
I'm probably going to try to stick to my fitness pal, walk home from work at least once a week and perhaps cut back a little on the wine now homeschooling is hopefully over!

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 30/12/2020 00:03

First timer here. I track on MFP and loathe exercise. Having read that weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, I'd like to ask if you see much difference when you do both? I'd rather restrict calories further than exercise.

Marsis · 30/12/2020 00:06

Joining in not certain of my current weight but I think around 90kg. I’ll check when I properly start.

GW=65kg

I will do IF and probably low carb. I did quite well previously with IF and I know carbs are a trigger for me once I start I just can’t stop. I’m going to do C25K again too, aim for 10000 steps a day and add in some YouTube workouts using the dumbbells and resistance band I got for Christmas. Exercise helps me stay on track as if I cheat I feel I’ve exercised for nothing and I do get a good endorphin hit after a run.

FatGirlShrinking · 30/12/2020 00:23

Ahhh @TheRealHousewife you making me blush ☺️

Had a very hungry day today, I have a cold (not the dreaded lurgie thank goodness) and have reached the 'must eat everything in reach stage'.

Not looking forward to my final weigh in of the year in the morning but hoping I can take it on the chin and just look forward to hitting my 2021 goals.

Need to go to sleep now, as off to the zoo with DD tomorrow while DH is working. We got a little snow here this morning and went out to the park to play in it and drink hot chocolate which was lovely but bloody freezing. Looking forward to a sedate wander looking at tigers and rhinos while sipping a Costa latte 😁

FatGirlShrinking · 30/12/2020 00:28

And welcome to all the newbies🙋🏻‍♀️

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother most of my loss has been due to cutting calories, I use MFP and aim for a max of 1440 a day now, was 1600 but reducing as I reduce.

Having said that, I notice a quicker weight loss and more visible change to my body when I do cardio, either walk/jog like C25K or a video like the couch to fitness programme through Our Parks. I also find myself less hungry if I do some cardio, whereas when I go swimming I am so hungry I could eat a horse.

LarryUnderwood · 30/12/2020 00:34

Hello, I will join from 1st Jan. Am tapering down dosage of anti anxiety meds which I think have contributed to weight gain over last 1.5 years. So hoping that I will find it easier to get motivated as I reduce the dose. Planning to:

Do dry January (a lot of my cals and bad food choices come from booze)
Low carb for 4- 6 weeks then ease into a more balanced Mediterranean diet with a careful watch on the amount of carbs
Cut out sugar
Aim for 10k steps per day and 3 x 30 min weights sessions per week. Am seeing a physio next week for a niggling achilles injury that has prevented me from running for months - hoping to sort that and get back to running soon but who knows. So instead try to build muscle and stay active through the day.
Have just over 2 stone to lose to get to ideal weight, currently around 11st 9, aiming to get to 9 stone 7. Am 5'5", with a wardrobe full of lovely clothes i can't get into 😢

IHateCoronavirus · 30/12/2020 06:36

Can I join? 88kg now (was 94.3 in Nov) I want to be back to 62-64kg. Comfort eating/binging snack food was my downfall.

I’m doing low cal/low carb to get my weight down by another 10kgs or so before I start to add in exercise as I have bad arthritis in my knees, but I’m aiming to walk as much as possible.
Weigh in day is Sunday!

FatGirlShrinking · 30/12/2020 07:36

annabell22 · 30/12/2020 08:40

Hi all, count me in! I have lost some weight in 2020 but not as much as I wanted and over the last month have regained several kg. I'd like to lose 5kg from my weight at weigh in this morning. I run regularly and have access to a gym. I won 5 PT sessions and had the second of those at 6.30am today - once they're done, I aim to use the programme he has created alongside my runs as I need to improve my core and upper body strength.

I'm already vegetarian and I'm also doing Veganuary. We are going out for dinner on 1st Jan, which is a bit awkward, but I'll manage!

HamishDent · 30/12/2020 09:23

I would like to join please! I have lost around 3.5 stone in the past 6 months and am just 1.5 pounds off a healthy bmi (albeit at the top of the range). I want to lose around another stone to get more into the middle of the range and then reassess how I feel. Things have slowed considerably over the past couple of months, so I will need to work hard to get rid of this last stone,p.

Current weight 70.55kg
Target weight 63kg

Onthebrink67 · 30/12/2020 09:51

Just checking in. Will be back with starting weight on Friday

HamishDent · 30/12/2020 10:25

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother

First timer here. I track on MFP and loathe exercise. Having read that weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, I'd like to ask if you see much difference when you do both? I'd rather restrict calories further than exercise.
When I first started I just started walking more than 10,000 steps a day and lost weight fairly consistently. As I lost weight I started to feel I could take on some more exercise so started c25k. I also hated exercise, but it really made a difference to how I felt and I started to enjoy it. I think it makes more of a difference now I’m closer to my goal weight and weight loss has slowed. Now I’m more focussed on how I feel fitness wise rather than the numbers on the scale although they are still important.

So, I think you will still lose weight on diet alone, but exercise does contribute, especially as you get closer to your goal weight.

mrsdaz · 30/12/2020 10:46

Can I join you guys? I've been overweight now for about 8 years - I just can't get out of the cycle and am gaining every year.

It's time to stop and this is my year! Not weighed myself yet - but will do in the next few days!

Mustard21 · 30/12/2020 11:09

I am in! I was looking for a thread and this one is friendly. I will weigh on 1st Jan. This year has been awful for weight gain and too much wine, a good 2 stone to lose. Looking at what other people are doing on here and will make a plan and sort out my grocery list.

xmas20 · 30/12/2020 12:50

Hello all, I'd love to join.

I'm currently a little overweight and I think ideally I'd like to lose around 1/1.5 stone to get me back to a more healthy weight.

I'm quite big on intuitive eating, not using negative language around food, and not restricting. I think diet culture is extremely harmful and I strongly believe restrictive diets don't work!

Trying to be kind to myself, no food is banned. Just trying to make every meal balanced where possible. I'm not a huge fan of tracking, but I have downloaded MFP which I'm going to trial for a week or so and just see how it goes.

I use the peloton bike for 20-30 minutes each night, but again, not being strict with it and if I don't fancy it then I'll just skip it. Want it to be something I enjoy doing and not become something I hate!

Thank you. I'm on 1,200 but am plateauing a little atm so I think I may need to reduce my cal intake now. Or start exercising again. I need to find some aerobics videos on YouTube with disco music. That's be the only thing that would make me exercise regularly.
Monkeytennis97 · 30/12/2020 13:55

Well I was 12 stone 7lbs this morning but have blown it by eating fruit pastilles and shortbread. Will go for a long walk to counteract. Going to really go for it from the 1st is the plan!😂🤦‍♀️
