HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

I’d like to join in too please.

SW - 12-4
CW - 11-3
GW - 10-0

I’m 5’7” so am right at the top of my normal BMI range currently having lost 15lb with noom since last summer.

I plan to keep going with calorie counting and add some more exercise into the mix. First goal is to get my 10,000 steps daily and do a couple of weights sessions per week.

Glitterinthegrey · 30/12/2020 15:54

Hi.

I'm 5'8" and weigh somewhere in the region of 12st. I started at 13st 6 in May, lost nearly 2 stone really s l o w l y between May and October but due to upheavals at home, and then Christmas with all the sugary carbs that brings, it's starting to creep back.

Target is 10st 6.

I'm pretty sedentary, I have been WFH most of this year so barely go out, I tried running but I hate it, I do walk a fair bit in normal times but struggling with motivation!

CescaNicole · 30/12/2020 20:08

Hi Everyone!

I thought i posted earlier but it has disappeared into an Internet black hole!

I posted on December thread too this morning but wanted to come over here and say hi and jot down my January goals 😊

I'm looking forward to a new month and a new year!!

Start weight for Jan is 10st 9lb from my weigh in this morning. Overall loss since starting in Oct 2020 is 20 lbs. Aiming to get to pre pregnancy weight of 9 st 7 lb. Curre tly 3 months post partum!
I log everything on MFP, try to exercise minimum of 2 x a week(finding that a mission with 2 kiddos), and try to drink 2l of water a day. I've just joined up to the fiit app as well to try and help me get more of the exercise in.

Specific January Goals:
⚫ Finish January at 10 st 5 LB (1 lb loss a week)
⚫Complete 4 x 4 Challenge on Fiit app (4 workouts a week for 4 weeks)

Come on team 💪🏻 😁

I will also leave this meme here as it made me chuckle 😊

FatGirlShrinking · 30/12/2020 21:55

Ho to all the new starters and good goals @CescaNicole, you've done amazingly, 20lb in 2 months!

I am absolutely knackered just woke up after an impromptu 1 hr nap on the sofa 😂 we went bright and early to the zoo this morning and spent 3 or 4 hrs wandering around freezing our bits off but had a bloody fantastic time. Some of the animals were hiding inside so we couldn't see them but watching DD doing something she hadn't been able to do for ages was fantastic, she lit up like a little star.

We suspected it would be the last chance for something like that in a while and low and behold we're tier 4 as of midnight. Went for our normal weekly shop at Asda this evening and the retail park was rammed with people hitting up the non-essential shops for the last time in who knows how long, queues in and out were insane!

A warm welcome to newcomers @CordeliaScott @BarryWhiteIsMyBrother @Marsis @LarryUnderwood @IHateCoronavirus @annabell22 @HamishDent @Onthebrink67 @mrsdaz @Mustard21 @xmas20 @Katrinawaves @Glitterinthegrey

Welcome back @CescaNicole 😊

You are most welcome @FatGirlShrinking. You have done fantastically well! Truly inspirational.

A quick shoutout to @puffalicious @Elle200 @mrsjonesandme @MawkishHawk @pinGywn @HolaVida @HostessTrolley @DipSwimSwoosh @Galvantula @katiepants27 @mull @Trisolaris @RebeccaNoodles @Heartbeats0708 @nodtik ... jump right back in if you’d like, it’d be lovely for you to join us 😊

In the short term lets see what we can all achieve in January and longer term in 2021.

What goals have you set yourselves? Personally I’d like to lose a bit more as I remain at the upper end of a healthy MBI and would appreciate the wiggle room being lower in range would give me.

This time next month you’ll be pleased you did ....

Morning Therealhousewife I'm here again! I'll be here slowly calorie counting a making progress with everyone's help. Weigh in due today. Dreading it but will give me a kick up the bum after the festive splurge.

As way of introduction to everyone: almost a stone down (since mid Oct) and want to lose 2 more. My preferred exercise, swimming, not possible since March (Scotland so has never opened back up) and I'm not great at other exercise. Aim to get into some walking at least this January. Good luck all.

Puffalicious · 31/12/2020 10:14

Okay, just weighed and +2lbs since last week. Not horrendous but it just shows how it can pile on without actually eating that much: I certainly didn't go crazy and I don't drink. Cutting right back this week again- IF (11am-7pm only) and 1200 calories or under. I'm determined to get there!!!

Furball · 31/12/2020 10:20

I'm in too if thats OK

I seem to have been 'on a diet' for the last 15 years at least. When I do get to where I want to be - I catapult straight back to where I started.

My way forward has to be MFP for me that seems to be the easiest to do from home. (Although I do have all the Slimming world gubbins, but that is hard without the access to their syn database.)

My allowance is a crappy 1100 cals and I still struggle to lose on that (darn menopause) despite doing regular spin classes pre 2020 - I now do a 30 min daily HIT cycle class at home. Its so boring I'm not sure I could do more. Maybe I should browse MN whilst on the bike Grin

Galvantula · 31/12/2020 11:43

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother I also lost weight just by using MFP and little to no exercise. I do try to fit in a bit of walking and I'm on my feet the majority of the time at work, bit that's about it.

I really want to get back into doing a little home weights workout that a friend suggested years ago. You can start on a beginner one then add exercises as you move to the intermediate one. I had a (short) phase of doing it really often and enjoying it. Then I was pregnant and tired and puking 😂.

I just use a set of cheap dumbbells. I warmed up by putting on music and making up step aerobics as I went along (also have a cheap Argos step). Then I did a few abs exercises - above handy friend used to be a personal trainer and recommended some that are better for your back. Also tried to remember to do stretching. 👍Hope I can remember the abs I did as out was also a bit made up 🤔

I can find the old weights link if anyone is interested. :)

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 12:22

Posted in December too.

There wasn't any snow when I ran just frost. I didn't slip and ran further than I thought I had so all good.

I finish the year at my second lowest weight in years having lost 1.4lb since Christmas Day. I am very happy as end on a ten stone amount. Run went great. All good.

I feel happy. It's been a long time. Happy emotionally as well as physically.

Hope everyone has a good New Years Eve and here's to a good 2021. Let's face it, can't be much worse!

That's a positive and win @Galvantula. Still enjoying cheese just not having too much.

I am chuffed to bits to be a poster girls and with @FatGirlShrinking. I've never been a poster girl for everything before. Nothing good anyway.

I started couch 25k in May weighing 12 stone 9lbs and struggled with a three minute run in the beginning. Today was run 113, I ran 7.66km and my weight is 10 stone 13.6. My lowest was on Christmas Eve and was 10 stone 11.2 but I'm still happy.

I agree totally with @TheRealHousewife. I run 3-5 times a week, I feel it mentally when I don't go. I never thought 8 would, or could, be the person that happily gets up before seven and goes out in the cold to run. I've got quite famous in the village and people are noticing my weight loss. Makes me sad and embarrassed k how enormous I must have been before.

Welcome @LovingLivingLife, @Monkeytennis97 @africanantelope and @CordeliaScott. My youngest is 15 and I have been overweight probably for years. Some was due to illness and once that was discovered weigh did come off but I am taking credit for the further stone I have lost from intermittent fasting and running.

Hi @BarryWhiteIsMyBrother. Years ago I did the 30 shred and lost nothing. My proper weight loss started roughly about three months after I started running. I can't remember when I started intermittent fasting to see where that comes in.

Have to serve up lunch now so will read rest of thread after.

IHateCoronavirus · 31/12/2020 12:50

I’m officially weighing Sunday but I had a sneaky weigh this morning (pre-dressing/post-wee) and I’ve lost 800g woohoo!
Had a look online for motivational weight loss pictures and many of the befores look aspirational for me at the moment! Shock I knew I was putting on the weight I just didn’t have the headspace to do anything about it.
Determined to do it this time!

IHateCoronavirus · 31/12/2020 12:54

Ooh SunshineCake that is really inspirational about the running. I’m always put off thinking how much I’d struggle!
Did a walking YouTube thing this morning ‘for bad knees’ so it’s a start! Grin

theDudesmummy · 31/12/2020 12:58

Hi, I would like to join, will weigh tomorrow. I am post-menopausal, have put on probably a stone since lockdown, have been told I need to lose weight (blood pressure is up and have been put on medication). I am quite disgusted with myself. I am very bad at excercise (have started couch to 5k about three times, never got further than week 3). I hve lost a lot of weight into the past with low-carbing (all back on now), but I don't think I can sustain a strict low-carb any more. I am going to find my Fitbit and try to do steps. Have bought sopme dumbells too.

Mustard21 · 31/12/2020 13:19

Thank you for the welcome. I will weigh tomorrow morning and write my goals and plan. I am 53 so it’s going to have to be strict to make a difference, but I am keen not to give up just. Channeling Linda Hamilton from latest Terminator, can’t see my toes due to tummy so there’s a way to go.

Mustard21 · 31/12/2020 13:20

Not to give up just yet - that should read.

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 13:22

Welcome
@Marsis
@LarryUnderwood @mrsdaz
@IHateCoronavirus. @xmas20
@annabell22. @Mustard21
@HamishDent
@Monkeytennis97 you haven't blown it! Don't let yourself think that as that is when oh there's no point mindset sets in. Remember you enjoyed the sweets and biscuits and you'll enjoy how you feel when you get home from your walk.
Also welcome to @Katrinawaves and @Glitterinthegrey @furball. Well done @CescaNicole!,

I am so envious @FatGirlShrinking. I miss the zoo and haven't been for three years. I have planned to go to the beach with my dog and Hobbycraft for craft things but will add the zoo to my list of want to do.

My goal is to get to ten and a half stone by February 28th. That is my pre baby number 1 weight I think or certainly the weight I was when I met dh 5.5 years before I had my first son.

@Puffalicious. I put on almost 3.5 lb over Christmas but I've lost about a third of it. I didn't run for three days and I enjoyed some different food and also had one glass of wine and two baileys. All worth it and we can get it off.

I've been painting my nails more. Makes me feel better to see them as they look better painted. Small things to boost me.

slalomsuki · 31/12/2020 13:27

I"ll join in too as I need to get rid of loads. I've tasked my daughter to find a daily workout for us to do as she will be off school for the next 2 weeks and I will be working from home so control most of my own time. I will try to up my movement and log everything I eat on MFP

SW. 110KG
CW 110KG
TW 80KG

@FatGirlShrinking how did you manage you weight loss which is a fantastic achievement.

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 13:57

Welcome @theDudesmummy.

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 13:57

Welcome @slalomsuki

FatGirlShrinking · 31/12/2020 13:58

@slalomsuki nothing special, I log all my food and drink in MyFitnessPal and stick to the amount of calories it tells me to eat 😁

I do try to get 3 lots of exercise in a week, but that can be anything from a brisk walk round the park to swimming and anything in between, I don't have a consistent programme I do.

I think the main thing is consistency, I have logged my food every day for 150 days, I only very occasionally go over my calorie count and if I do I try to make up for it over the next couple of days to keep my overall week in deficit.

I also reduce (but don't cut out) carbs, as find when I have starchy carbs like bread, pasta, potatoes I get really hungry within a couple of hours and they take up so many calories. I do have PCOS and always find I lose weight better when I reduce carbs.

Puffalicious · 31/12/2020 15:50

Thanks Sunshinecake I have been positively saintly today, so onwards and upwards. Usually lots of food on Hogmanay/ the 1st/2nd up here as it's a big celebration, so tier 4 working positively for me as we can't go anywhere! Got to find a silver lining somewhere! Grin

Marsis · 31/12/2020 15:50

Does anybody use Fiit? I have downloaded it and have a 3 months for £5 offer and wondering if it’s worth it. It doesn’t seem to be compatible with my Fitbit charge 3 but other than that seems quite good. Lots of the reviews out there seem sponsored to me so looking for some real life recommendations.

RunningKatie · 31/12/2020 16:05

I'd like to join in too please!
I've gained half a stone since March, although I was consistently hitting over 10k steps a day in December my motivation has gone.
I've signed up for the 30 day yoga with Adrienne for January and I'm going to use MFP to log my food --when i get my new

RunningKatie · 31/12/2020 16:07

Phone!(clearly this phone posts randomly).
First goal is to fit into my new trousers. My waist has disappeared Confused

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 21:03

Welcome to you @RunningKatie. How far do you run and how often ? Also, what trainers do you have? I feel like I need some that give knee protection.
