HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Ok I'm in

S-W 77kg
T-W 65kg

I turn 50 in April and I'd like to be in the low 70s by then. Aiming for 10k steps a day but maybe more realistic 50k a week, lowish carb, reduced snacking, no alcohol (in January anyway), and this time I'll start C25K at the same time, instead of saying I'll start when I hit 70kg, which of course never happens

RunningKatie · 31/12/2020 21:46

Thank you @SunshineCake - running was my thing till the physio said my feet are wrecked. There's no coincidence that since then I've steadily gained weight.
Now I do C25k up to week 6 before I have to stop. I "run" in New Balance trainers, they come in wide fit which suits my dodgy toes! I get them fitted at a running shop to ensure they work with my running style. If you can do that within the Tier system I would really recommend it.

SunshineCake · 31/12/2020 22:25

I did have Merrell trainer years ago for just casual wearing but they were painful to wear and I was happy when I discovered they had a hole in and could throw them out. My children have had new balance though and liked them. We are in tier four at the moment so can't go real life shopping just yet. I think I will when I can as there is a shop 15 minutes drive away that does the check and assessment. Thank you.

Welcome to you too @didireallysaythat.

Happy new year everyone.

Firstworlddilemma · 31/12/2020 22:30

Puffalicious · 31/12/2020 23:44

Welcome all newbies- bloody lovely to have you on this journey. It won't be easy but if we keep each other going it'll certainly be a lot more positive. Star

TTCAbroad · 01/01/2021 02:09

Hello! I would like to join as well please. My partner and I are going to start TTC in February and I would like to be firmly in the health BMI range for that.

I was super stressed out (and not exercising because I spent all my time working) for a few years and as a result was hovering around 71-73kg. In the last four months I've kept at my current weight with minimal effort so I hope that with some focus I can be -3kg by the end of January! I known things will change if I do get pregnant at some point but my ultimate goal is to get to 60kg.

SW - 73
CW - 67
End of Jan - 64
GW - 60

Plan is to:

  • remove chocolates and biscuits from my diet
  • start re-learning about portion sizes!
  • including two servings of vegetables in lunch and three at dinner.
  • learn how to control my snacking

Does anyone have good tips for tracking food on MFP when you make lots of meals from scratch? It's where I always fail in meal tracking. Ie: stews/soups, gyoza, stirfrys?

HamishDent · 01/01/2021 06:04

You can enter recipes into mfp TTCAbroad. You just put I the ingredients and the number of portions and it works it out for you. I’ve done it for meals I make regularly and it’s really useful.

Elle200 · 01/01/2021 06:21

Hello all, everyone seems in fine fettle ready for the new year!

SW: 134kg
CW: 97.9kg
TW: 75kg

Only lost 900g this month, due to over indulging this past week. Today should see the bad food gone from the house and I'll be back on track.

Good luck everyone on your journey!!

TTCAbroad · 01/01/2021 07:36

@HamishDent I didn't know that! Being able to enter recipes will make life so much easier :)

TheStirrer · 01/01/2021 09:05

Can I join please?
Starting weight 14st 2.5lbs.
Aim is to get back to be in healthy bin range this year so 10st 10. I don’t think I have ever been that weight ( well obv I have but not that I can remember Blush )

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2021 09:08

HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳

I’ve been reading this. I hope it posts. It’s outlines 6 scientifically proven steps to take to ‘reset’ after over indulging:-

  1. Eat lower carb Mediterranean type diet.
  2. Go for a long walk.
  3. Get moving/incorporate exercise.
  4. Stay hydrated (my Achilles heal)
  5. Time Restricted eating/Intermittent Fasting.
  6. Sleep.

A warm welcome to @Furball @theDudesmummy @TTCAbroad @FreshStart56 @MercuryRising @Firstworlddilemma @didireallysaythat @RunningKatie @slalomsuki. You’ve come to the right place 😊 Great ladies on here who are very supportive and inspiring.

Covid and all the restrictions are things that we can’t control (other than following the guidelines) but we can control our healthy habits. It doesn’t have to mean deprivation or boring foods. Planning is key as is a healthy mind set. Add in supportive like minded other people and you’ve got a recipe towards success. For inspiration there are plenty of free resources on line. Here’s to making 2021 our healthiest year yet.

I'm in! I'm back at my highest weight for the first time in years😔 I'm going to calorie count, focus on vegetable and grits and have less meat. Also exercise more, mainly running but also youtube videos at home.

Stats are:
CW: 75.9 kg
Height: 161 cm
GW: 60 kg

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2021 10:03

A warm welcome @Rapunzel91, you’ll do great ... one meal at a time 🥗👍

MercuryRising · 01/01/2021 10:15

Thank you for the welcome TheRealHousewife in light of your post my plan today is to drink lots to rehydrate after yesterday and to cycle 5km on the exercise bike. In addition I'm going to meal plan and shop for the week so there is no excuse to make poor choices. We have cleared pretty much all of the Christmas junk food now so I'm ready 💪

AuldFox · 01/01/2021 10:27

Hello everyone and happy new year!

I was on the thread about trying to lose a bit of weight pre-Christmas. No special diets here, I just eat less and move more. I’m a very slooooow loser though!

I’d like to post my weight every second Wednesday, so I will post on the 6th. My weight fluctuates a lot so I find that not checking too often is more motivating and I usually see a small loss every 2 weeks.

My next goal is to get under 60kg. That would take me to a weight I last weighed a decade ago. Thank you in advance for the support, I find this forum super useful. Smile

Camelbert · 01/01/2021 10:56

Hi everyone, can I join?

SW 12 stone 3
CW 10 stone 1
GW 9 Stone

My weight loss stalled over the first lockdown and started to creep up over the second. I’m hoping that posting rather than lurking will get me back on track and keep me accountable.

Glitterinthegrey · 01/01/2021 11:03

Morning 🙂 and Happy New Year!

Weighed myself this morning - not as bad as expected.

So...

SW: 13st 6lb
CW: 11st 11lb
GW: 10st 7lb

Not following an particular diet - using My Fitness Pal to track what I eat, and trying to motivate myself to be more active. I tend to lose pretty slowly.

lemontova · 01/01/2021 11:59

Morning all! I’m joining too if that’s ok, have put on 5kg since March but hoping the first 2kg comes off fast as it came on fast and is mostly mince pies and Christmas cocktails.

SW: 73.3kg
GW: 58kg

Hoping to get under 70 again by the end of January and to 65 by end March but age (44) and sedentary lifestyle are a challenge. I’m 5ft 1 and 58kg is top end of my healthy BMI range but I’ve felt good at that weight before. Plan is as follows:

  • dry January
  • MFP logging sticking to 1200 cals per day
  • Apple Fitness Plus workouts to do 30 mins exercise every day

Good luck everyone!

L x

Marsis · 01/01/2021 12:10

Wow so weighed today and 100kg heaviest I’ve ever been.

GW = 70kg

was planning on starting properly on Monday as still so much junk in house. Going to start my IF today and do my best with what we have in and meal plan and shop ready for Monday.

Good luck to everyone. Off out for a walk.
