HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Hello fellow people!!!

Looking to lose 1.5 stone and determined to do it this time.

So many times in the past I’ve told myself I’m going to start eating better and try to shed a few pounds but I always lose my motivation and resort to my bad habits.

Over the last few weeks though I’ve noticed my clothes don’t fit as well and when I catch sight of my undressed reflection in the mirror I’m really not happy.

I decided yesterday that this time I’ve really, really got to try.

I usually have an active job but due to a
Spell of bad heath I’ve been off work for 5 months and still am - ultimately leading to me just lounging around at home and eating junk food.

Yesterday was Day 1 of cutting out all junk and unhealthy snacks, and reduced portions of my meals.

There are still so many Christmas treats lying around the house that I’m actually quite impressed that I haven’t been near them.

I’ve also had a much healthier lunch today compared to what I would normally eat.

I really, really want to do it this time.

TTCAbroad · 02/01/2021 13:22

I've gone up from 67. 1 to 69.3 in two days. But I suspect its because I'm about to start my period.

Does anyone else's weight fluctuate that much because of AF?

Mustard21 · 02/01/2021 14:15

Yup re weight gain the before my period, I go up 4 lbs usually and it drops down again a couple of days into my period. I have learnt to ignore it.

DarlingWithoutYou sorry you are in hospital, that must be very hard. For me weight gain is all about the carbs, so maybe try reducing those.

I ate much better yesterday, roast duck, lots of veg and one roast potato, no crisps, no bread just that one meal. Weighed this morning and I gained 1 lb. Frustrating but I told my self Mustard if you insist on weighing daily you have got to have a robust attitude. I don’t think this weight is going to fall off! DH exercises 6 days a week, early in the morning, he suggested my metabolism needs a shock. I feel too heavy to start C25K but I may have to force myself. I completed it in March 2020 when I was 2 stone lighter. How have I let things slip so much. I wouldn’t mind if I was jolly and overweight but it’s bringing me down.

Sorry to bang on, this time of year is a bit brutal after Christmas isn’t it!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/01/2021 14:59

So ive just had a two hour walk

I had a crumpet and butter for breakfast with two coffees

Some smoked salmon and cream cheese for lunch

Im having a coffee now

Chinese for tea but i only have rice and curry sauce, i will have a few of the celebrations chocolates but no alcohol

Tomorrow I’ll reinstall MFP, do a shorter walk have no chocolate or alcohol...hopefully

Oh and i was brave and got on the scales, last time i weighed was end october I think and i was 13 stone 3, 13 stone 7 today...so im feeling ok

lemontova · 02/01/2021 15:01

It’s hard going isn’t it? I’m dreading going back to work on Monday, feels like the holidays only just started.
Good day diet wise so far though, did almost an hour of various apple fitness workouts then scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for lunch. Day 2 without alcohol though and I realise that we drank something lovely every day for the past 2 or 3 weeks and that’s hardest for me to give up

Mintine · 02/01/2021 15:05

I’m in. About 13 and a half stone now, can’t be exact as we’ve recently moved and I don’t know where the scales are. But before that I regularly weighed myself. I can just measure my waist as each half a stone I intend to lose, means my waist should go down about an inch, I think. But anyway, I’m quite fat at the moment and a need to lose about 2 and a half stone. I’m 5 feet six, with a 34 inch waist, which needs to be more like 29 inches ideally.

IHateCoronavirus · 02/01/2021 15:50

Just got back from a lovely country walk in the snow with DH and DC. Reached my daily steps. Woohoo! Weigh in tomorrow Shock

LarryUnderwood · 02/01/2021 16:29

Day 2 going ok so far. Smoked salmon, 2 poached eggs and a tiny slice of GF toast for breakfast, leftover Thai curry - no rice- for lunch. Been to the park woth the kids, they demanded hot chocolate whe we got home. So I've made myself a hot chocolate protein shake with half soya milk, half water, and 0.5tsp of a sugar free chocolate syrup I have. I have IBS and its triggered by dairy, wheat, alcohol and some fruits - I've basically been ignoring it for the last few months and just living with the consequences, probs because I'm at home all the time so it doesn't matter if I'm bloated etc. But this is another thing I need to sort out, and a lowish carb diet makes it a lot easier to avoid triggers.

Katrinawaves · 02/01/2021 17:12

Finished off the Christmas chocolates last night in front of the telly. Oops! Still today is a new day.

I’ve done a free weights workout for the first time in ages so will be sore tomorrow, and some housework and been out for a walk in the cold air. Am feeling better for the activity.

Lunch today was half a small thin and crispy pizza and dinner is going to be some chimichangas from the new Pinch of Nom cookbook but using left over roast beef instead of chicken. Feeling confident I can bring the day in under 1200 cals which is my budget at the moment.

DarlingWithoutYou · 02/01/2021 17:12

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I went for a 20 minute walk today and had to stop twice to catch my breath. Also had to remove my wedding ring as my fingers have got so fat, which made me so unhappy (I haven't taken it off for 5 years!). I have absolutely no stamina and am really starting at rock bottom.

Bessica1970 · 02/01/2021 17:30

I’d love to join.

SW: 13 stone
Cw: 11 stone 12
GW: 10 stone

Just started IF with low(ish) carbs currently one meal a day (OMAD) and loving it 🙂

NoJetter · 02/01/2021 17:30

I’d like to join too please. I have 3 stone 8 to lose-

SW - 13st8
CW - 13st8
GW - 10st0

I’ve gained 3 stone after having my children (having them 18 months apart didn’t help!) and then I’ve had chronic back problems which left me housebound since June. I’ve just had spinal surgery so I’m hoping once I can build up my strength and walk more I’ll be able to lose the half a stone I’ve gained since June.

Started with healthy eating today. I’m normally pescatarian but doing veganuary. I’ve made a good start today, ate healthily and walked around the park with my husband and boys.

Elffo · 02/01/2021 17:50

Hello, I would like to join please.
SW 10,6
GW 9,6
I struggle to stick to anything for more than a couple of days as I tend to be all or nothing.
Planning to be kinder to myself this time and doing it for health as my weight is all around my middle.
Dry January, nourishing meals and no snacking.
Good luck everyone.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 02/01/2021 19:41

So update from day 2 -

Restarting exercise post-xmas is going well. Had a long walk both days, ran both days, and did some yoga today. I'm on couch to 5k if anyone else is? (Currently week 6, run 2)

Havent started diet plan yet: main aims of this are to cut out rubbish and eat sustainable "normal " meals and healthy snacks only. Starting tomorrow!

Will weigh in each Friday Smile

Drybird2020 · 02/01/2021 19:47

Hello, may I please join? I lost 2 stone from Jan - Dec 2020, but have put on a few pounds over Xmas. I definitely want to lose another half stone and I'll then see how I look and feel before deciding whether to carry on or maintain.

I'm the slimmest I've ever been and am enjoying it! So I am motivated to get back on the diet wagon. I quit booze this time last year, I run 3 or 4 times a week and have 2 fast days. So I know what I need to do, and could use this thread to keep me focused and accountable. 😊

TheDaydreamBelievers · 02/01/2021 19:52

Congratulations @Drybird2020! What a great effort in 2020!

Sandalison · 03/01/2021 00:16

Hello everyone, please can I join in? I am currently 11 stone and want to be 9.5
It’ll take me from a bmi of 23 to about 21. My clothes are tight (and also very old!) I need to go shopping but I refuse to buy anything new until I have got down to my goal.
I expect it will take time but I hope I can do it by May, so I can start buying nice summer clothes!
😃

Drybird2020 · 03/01/2021 00:31

Hey @TheDaydreamBelievers, what a lovely welcome! I did C25K, started in April and am now addicted to running and get annoyed on rest days. I hope you're enjoying it. 😊

duckinatruckwithmuck · 03/01/2021 00:46

Can I join please? Have a 15 month gap between my babies and they've done a number (a big one) on my body. I've always been a size 10 and am currently an 16-18 :( I've gained 4 stones which makes me look ridiculous considering I'm only 5.2 in height. Hoping some collective goal sharing, etc. will motivate me enough to make some serious changes. I'm always on the move so should be slimmer but my diet is atrocious- today it got to 1:30pm for me to realise all I'd had since waking up at 6:15am was a banana so for some quick energy, I ate some biscuits and a big slice of cake. I hate myself for it but don't have time for healthy meal planning. I seriously need a kick up my big bum and hoping this group'll do it.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/01/2021 07:55

Today’s weigh in was pleasantly motivating. 1.9kg off!
SW 94.3
CW 86.1
I feel excited for the week ahead Smile

NatMoz · 03/01/2021 08:03

I am trying to lose weight.

I am weighing myself every Wednesday and it was hard for me to get on the scales if I'm honest.

SW: 11st 12lb
GW: 11 st

I am quite fit but I think I just eat like a pig. I'm doing RED January which is about exercising every day in Jan. I started with an 8 mile hike on NYD (I want to do more trig point bagging in 2021) and a 6.5 mile run yesterday. It's quite icy here so any walk/run today will be after lunchtime to help the pavements thaw.

I probably run 20-30 miles a week but find losing weight so hard.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 03/01/2021 08:34

I know I'm late to the party, but I need to do something.
SW 99.5KG
By my 30th in August I would like to be 80KG
GW is 65KG

I have a bad habit of drinking 6/8 cans of coke a day, so I'm currently day 3 of cutting that down to 2 a day, and it's nearly killed me - I'm exhausted, moody and have the most horrific withdrawal headaches.
Eventually, I will stop drinking them all together, but I'm taking it one day at a time.

I'm also doing 10k steps a day and staying we'll within my 1800kcal.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/01/2021 09:38

Nutrigrainygoodness the withdrawal headaches are a killer. I have managed to swap Diet Coke for sparkling water, but I’ve also noticed an extra cup of coffee sneaking in! Blush

Marsis · 03/01/2021 10:13

Doing ok so far staying within my eating interval (doing 16:8) and even though I’ve not been eating the ideal diet as still eating up leftovers I’ve eaten much less and been more deliberate with my choices. Restarted couch 2 5K and and so angry with myself for slipping I could barely run for 90 seconds. I have put on around 12kg since July if my scales are correct. Going to go for a walk today and start using the Fiit app tomorrow as planning on de-Christmasing the living room today.

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2021 11:06

Good Morning

WOW this thread has taken off. A warm welcome to newcomers @NatMoz @duckinatruckwithmuck @Drybird2020 @Elffo @Bessica1970 @NoJetter @Mintine @ThornAmongstRoses @Velocity @RufustheSniggeringReindeer @Happyrascalsmummy @StarfishExpress @Montysauras @lemontova @Camelbert @Sandalison😊. Apologies if I’ve missed anyone ... rushing as on line shop due.

It’s great to see people are already seeing progress and posting their results. Posting really does inspire and motivate people following the thread, so thank you 🙏

@TTCAbroad Yes! Hormones are pesky at times. They affect every system in the body. You’ll probably see a small whoosh when AF FsOff 😬.

@IHateCoronavirus withdrawal headaches are crappy but once over you’ll feel lighter and brighter and more energised 😊

This piece on the BBC website underlines the ways in which water intake is important. I am very poor at water intake and consistently have to remind myself to drink drink and drink some more.
